Flipping The Calendar To Week 1

Posted by Mike Wobschall on September 7, 2011 – 6:29 am

A new week in the real world begins on Monday. But in the NFL world, the new week begins on Wednesday. Games are played on Sunday, we digest and review the games on Monday and Tuesday, and then on Wednesday we flip the calendar to next week’s game.

Today is Wednesday, and that means the focus on and at Winter Park will shift to preparing for the season opener against the San Diego Chargers. The Vikings will take a charter plane to San Diego on Saturday afternoon and then open the 2011 regular season against the Chargers with a kickoff at 3:15 p.m. CT.

In the meantime, though, there is a lot to get done. It begins today, where the Vikings will have a morning walk-through and then an afternoon practice. Both Head Coach Leslie Frazier and QB Donovan McNabb will hold press conferences today (and every Wednesday before a Sunday game), and we’ll stream those press conferences live on The locker room will also be open today, so we’ll do our best to track down thoughts from other Vikings players.

As you can see, there is a lot on the docket today, so stay tuned to and the Blog for constant updates and in-depth info on the Vikings-Chargers matchup. Later today on the Blog I’ll take general look at this year’s Chargers team and we’ll figure out ways the Vikings can attack their Week 1 opponent.

Don’t forget to enhance your knowledge of the Vikings by using social media to follow the club. You can track the Vikings on Twitter by following the club’s official Twitter account (@VikingsFootball) and by following my personal account (@wobby). You can also be a friend of the Vikings on Facebook.

More updates coming soon. While you’re waiting for the next update, leave a comment in the comments section below this entry to let us know what you think the keys are to this weekend’s game against the Chargers…

here is my take. I think the coaches know we have a problem at Saftey. Abdullah will do good, but we need that vet guy back there that will help to lock it down. There are three decent guys left in free agentcy. Roy Williams, Michael Lewis, and Ken Hamlin. ANY of these guys will upgrade and boost our backfield. I personally like Ken Hamlin or Lewis. Keep and eye on our Safties guys. I am Worried about our chances there. Big risk, and a stupid one if you ask me.

Rivers if he does not get pressure will abuse the safeties the vikings have. I hope the vikings can score a lot of points becasue that is what it will take to win.

Daniel you can add D. Sharper to that list however it looks like none of these older vets will get added to teams without a few S injuries early in the season. Sanders and Merriweather(biggest names) already picked up by teams off the waiver wire. Maybe we should have just kept M. Williams on the roster?

nfc south vs nfc north this week. We need for two teams to lose(gb,chic, det) and to pull a win out of SD and everything is lovely to start the season!!!!

I have had more time this year to read and follow up on the Vikings than in years past and by far you are the best writer out there. keep it up and push out more info.

    Keys to victory.

    1. Front four pressure. Pressure Pressure Pressure. The more pressure on Rivers, the less pressure on the backfield

    2. OL — give McNabb some time to move and throw

    3. limit PENALTIES. We do not need to kill scoring drives with penalties.

    4. Turnovers — not having ours and making theirs count

    5. Receiver hands. Gotta have some soft hands.

Flying west causes jet-lag. The team should begin adjusting to the new time zone before the flight, so they are at their mental peak around 1-4 pm pacific time. That should be when they are practicing heavily now. if not adjust the daily routine, so they are peaking at play time .

Stunt the DT and Blitz right into Gates to overwhelm and stuff/can him on the way to the QB. Put Winfield and Greenway on the run stops.

Evidentally no one wants Sharper, I still feel he has a little left in the tank !!

Even if he does, we don’t have enough left in the bank.

I’m really impressed with your writing skills as well as with the layout on your weblog.
Is this a paid theme or did you modify it yourself?

Either way keep up the excellent quality writing, it
is rare to see a nice blog like this one today.
