Vikings Sign 7 To Practice Squad
Posted by on September 5, 2011 – 9:00 amThe roster-building process continues for the Vikings on Monday, as they’ve announced that 7 players have been signed to the practice squad.
Those 7 players are: WR Manny Arceneaux, FB Matt Asiata, WR Stephen Burton, FB Ryan D’Imperio, OL Chris DeGeare, RB Caleb King and DL Cedric McKinley.
The practice squad has a limit of 8 players, so there is one more spot remaining on the Vikings practice squad. Stay tuned for more developments.

I agree with you guys, the Vikings seem to be holding that last spot for Reisner. I hope he isn’t claimed.

What is the salary of a practice squad player, does it go against the cap or is that considered part of the daily operational costs like coaching.
The vikes should trade gerhardt to the bears for briggs, even if we have to give up a later draft pick as well. like a 3rd rounder it would be worth it. activate king from the practice squad and move an O lineman to the practice squad.

Mike Wobs- what is the story behind DeGeare? The coaches were praising him last year and I thought he did a good job filling in for Hutch. I thought he was a lock to make the 53 man roster. Did he come into camp not ready to play?

Hope our offense can score 30+ a game because our defense will have a hard time keeping teams under that

What ever happened to Jasper Brinkley? Where did he end up? I know he got hurt but I dont see him on the IR.

The packers get draft choices for players not making the team. Vikings waist another 5th round draft choice 2vyears in a row. Learn how to draft LBS from steelers Rick Spielman!!! Where is CB Parks and Torrance??? Atleast RB King is on the squad. Please draft next year a OT,S,WR,CB,G!!!

twoodsnvikes are you serious? the defense has ranked top ten the last 3 seasons it baffles me why alot of fans bash our defense, 2009 nfc championship game the vikings had what 5 or 6 turnovers and our defense sent that game into overtime i mean seriously with that many turnovers most teams are blown out, it was clearly the offense last year that jumped ship, last year the offense was terrible and the defense still was ranked 8th in the nfl, the vikings defense is awesome has been and will still be that way this year.
By TwoodsnVikes on Sep 5, 2011 | Reply
Total defense was ranked 19th last year and we have only made subtractions from it no additions, you do the math

Last spot on practice squad is for when Kevin Williams comes back as has to be counted. someone on active roster has to go !

I don’t know why so many people are so jacked for Jaymar Johnson. What has he done? Returns kicks well thats it period. He can’t even sniff the recieving squad BECAUSE HE IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH. There are plenty of young kids on the squad now to return kicks so I am glad we cleared him off the roster. Same goes for Harwell, great guy, worked hard, serve us well but it was time to move on. He couldn’t sniff the regular squad ether. the only positions that make a career out of special teams is kicker, punter, snapper.

TwoodsnVikes – Vikings ranked 8th in Total Defense last year – according to NFL.com stats????
By marc on Sep 5, 2011 | Reply
Shocked that Jaymar Johnson did not make the team or practice squad. He looked good as a receiver and was pretty sure handed as a punt returner.

Reisner cleared waivers and made the PS from what I’ve heard. Drop one of the FBs off the PS and put either Homan, Torrence, or Parks in that spot.

ROSS who???? thats what i think, we messed up by not taking the LB mark hertz that giants took and the ss mdaniel…but again we missed out
By sandiamond on Sep 5, 2011 | Reply
Big deal with A. Resinerl!! we did not get a more dire player we needed at other slots. Pitt got a steal on undrafted TE Weslye Saunders.
Did we just _ sign 1 waiver player? geez
By Mike R. on Sep 5, 2011 | Reply
SS McDaniel ? The one that the Saints signed and was cut before final cut down day? Something is up. He was considered one of the most highly rated UDFA. Now he’s not even on Saints PS.

not one rookie out there with less than 1 year nfl exp that can help us right now. Vikings did not use the transaction wire in attempt to improve any spots on the roster with a veteran or experienced player! this has been going on for many years

Yes, I said he was cut before the final cut down day. He was considered to be a high draft pick. He went undrafted due to concerns with wrist. This is not an endorsement for him. Just wondering the fall from grace.
By Woodboat on Sep 5, 2011 | Reply
I agree with normalperson concerning J Johnson. Unless you are getting 40 yards at a wack, keeping a guy specifically to return punts without a realistic chance to contribute elsewhere doesn’t make sense. Same with Reisner. He isn’t going to see the field on game day unless someone gets hurt.
Thank you Farwell and Dugan for your play the past few years. Hope you were able to put away some cash during your stay in the NFL.
There is no way the VIkes were top ten on defense last year. If someone has them listed in the top half they are using some skewed numbers. Any team with as bad a p@ss coverage as ours has been shouldn’t be ranked above 20.
By sandiamond on Sep 5, 2011 | Reply
Not sure i remember some positive games with him in the acc but the draft status died quick. We cut Farwell with a huge salary millions(sp) can we just sign d. sharper? lol
By Mike R. on Sep 5, 2011 | Reply
I was hoping the Vikings would have stashed a S and a CB on the practice squad. 3 RB and 2 WR? Are we going back to ’98 attitude “You might score but we will score more.”
By Chuck Angeline on Sep 5, 2011 | Reply
Heath Farwell. becuase he has been a sold special teamer, and a vetran
By Viking Glen on Sep 5, 2011 | Reply
The Vikings typically keep the most talented players on the roster regardless of their position. Apparently there are enough talented X football players around that they can pull in someone off the street if they run short at another position due to injury, incompetence, incontinence, etc…
By Viking Glen on Sep 5, 2011 | Reply
Glad they kept Caleb King. He’s the only RB in recent history I’ve seen who can immediately read his blocking and instantly adjust to take advantage of it. He and Webb picked apart the Texans’ defense in the second half last week.
By 4eversteve on Sep 5, 2011 | Reply
I agree on the statement about Caleb King, for a rookie with very little preparation time seeing his first action in the NFL he was very impressive allowing his blocking to set up and incredible vision and being patient enough as things had to appear like they moving a million miles an hour. The instinct the kid showed in his first NFL action is God given , most players have to take a year or two at this level to develop what we witness the last preseason game against the Texan’s. I hope this kid pans out for us and he is committed to playing football, only time will tell.

They did sign Reisner to practice squad if anyone wanted to know it is one NFL.com under Greenway extension.
By odin13 on Sep 5, 2011 | Reply
Spot #8 will probably go to the person they drop from the active roster once williams returns from his suspension. remember we carry 54 til then. My guess is Fusco, afterall why are we carrying 3 centers?
By odin13 on Sep 5, 2011 | Reply
Or I coul be wrong!!!!!!
By CaribooBill on Sep 5, 2011 | Reply
Woodboat – the Vikes, according to NFL.com team stats were 9th against the run in 2010 with 102.2 yards per game given up. They were 10th against the pass with 210.4 yards per game given up. I find this hard to believe but I can’t believe that their stats are wrong. Maybe the pass defense isn’t as bad as we think – don’t forget that last year we were a very high seed having gone to the NFC champioship the previous year.
By Arrow86 on Sep 5, 2011 | Reply
Williams suspension will be somewhat of a mixed blessing. His having Planter-faciatus is a painful injury, the time off now will allow some healing / reduction in pain so he can play at a higher level upon his return.
I loved watching Frazier on his Viking Preview show. Look for a little bit of the “Blazer” featuring Joe Webb. Frasier said they won’t have many plays early in the season as it takes a lot of practice time to develop the whole scheme. (He had a 10 inch grin on his 5 inch face the whole time he talked about it.) It’s going to be exciting.
I’m like many of you. Reisner deserves a spot with the Vikings, and I’m glad a practice squad spot was available. More importantly, that no other team claimed him. I didn’t follow him at Iowa, but just in what I’ve seen of pre-season, he’s a compliment to the tight ends we have on the roster! A great crew, Sasser, Shanc, Rudolph, and Reisner.
By Mike R. on Sep 5, 2011 | Reply
With only three RB on the roster, I would have like them to have four. This way it would have freed up a spot (or two) on the PS for S,CB, and LB.
By RWF1984 on Sep 5, 2011 | Reply
If Reisner continues his path, either Shianco or Kliensasser won’t be with team next year IMO! I wouldn’t mind it because Reisner has shown great potential of becoming a pretty good TE for the Vikings and I am also glad that they got Caleb King on the squad because for the time he had to learn with the Vikings he made a huge splash and could become on the roster next year. I also like Manny Arceneaux because he shown a lot of upside even though he has learning to do. From watching the couple catches he has made it looks like he would be better than Berrian because he goes and fights for the ball!
By sandiamond on Sep 6, 2011 | Reply
Miami signed OL Ryan Cook
Denver signed CB Jonathan Wilhite
Arizona signed RB Chester Taylor / released LB Quan Sturivant
Chicago signed S Brandon Merriweather
a few other notables out there but the waiver wire frenzy will cool off next couple of days. Still hopeful but not likely that the vikings will grab some secondary help and/or an offensive lineman vet.
By mikebrown on Sep 6, 2011 | Reply
the vikes are headed in the right direction, think of it this like a weight loss program, it is best for your body to loose weight steadly over a period of time not overnight, thats not healthy, thats what the team is doing, if they get rid off all the garbage players at once then it would be bad for the team, do it steadly over 2 to 3 years and its good, btw it also helps you chances to be a .500 team or above.
By Philly Viking on Sep 8, 2011 | Reply
Yeah I would really like someone to answer my question please about how Chris Degeare fell all the way down to being cut and brought back as a pratice squad member??? this is crazy last year everybody on the coaching staff was all on his nutz saying how good he played in place of Hutch plzzz tell me how and what happened there?? thank you!
By Rogerick on Dec 7, 2011 | Reply
THE NEED TO PLAY Manny Arceneaux we need a big WR. thats all we missing..I know he fumbled in the preseason game everybody makes mistakes…he would do good with harvin at slot & him and devin at wide out..
