Vikings Tweak Roster, Sign LB Xavier Adibi
Posted by on September 4, 2011 – 5:35 pmThe Vikings on Sunday tweaked their roster by signing LB Xavier Adibi, a 4th-year player who was most recently with the Houston Texans. To make room for Adibi, the Vikings waived TE Allen Reisner.
Adibi, who measures in at 6-4, 242 pounds, was drafted by the Texans in the 4th round (#118 overall) of the 2008 NFL draft out of Virginia Tech. Houston employs a 3-4 defensive scheme, so it’s hard to compare what his role was in that defense to what it will be in the Vikings scheme. But watch for Adibi to backup Vikings middle LB E.J. Henderson. It wouldn’t be surprising, though, to see Adibi train at outside LB and also on special teams.
A native of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Adibi has appeared in 34 games through 3 NFL seasons and he’s registered 68 tackles and also 2 forced fumbles (according to NFL.com).
No other roster moves or announcements are expected on Sunday.

Good pick up, nothing amazing but a good special teamer and a solid back up for ej who has a habit of missing time

adibi is a solid LB he will do great!

Really hope Reisner gets on the practice squad. He’s got talent. We could still use another LB because other than Adibi we have no NFL experience in our backups.

nice pick up. I have total faith in this coaching staff

I am sure Reisner will make the practice squad and will make an impact next year!! Nice to see Adibi join our linebacker corp, he seems like a solid player!

Just to clarify, Adibi played for Houston for the last 4 years, all in a 4-3 defense. It should be very easy to project him into Minnesota’s defense. He has never played in a 3-4 defense as a pro until this preseason. Houston is switching to a 3-4 for the first time this year. Mike, that is something you should have researched before posting.

I like this pick. Guy has some speed off the edge too. This guy is going to push Erin. He was a great rusher off the edge in collage. We have some big time speed guys off the edge. I take it the vikes plan is to press the QBs. And our CBs to be just avg. I like CEDRIC this year. I hope he locks it down. Love our DEs speed/ strength guys this year. Go Vikes.

Actually Mike wasn’t the only one that made that mistake with Adibi. I read this pick up from other sites and it said the same thing. Maybe he got cut because maybe he didn’t fit into the 3-4 (even though I would like the Vikings to to change to personally, tired of this cover 2 defense seems like it hasn’t really worked since Bucs won the SB IMO). I know they have great games here and there, but it seems a 3-4 defense works better and I am kind of tired to see the pass defense get ripped by some unknown QB’s basically. Hopefully I am wrong and would like to see a bend but don’t break defense rather than a QB always finding the holes in the zone and against Rogers it seems frightening IMO! It is sad to see the replay tonight because they showed part of the Packers Americas Dream with Rogers stating his draft day and hearing Troy Williamson and Erasmus James called before Rogers is kind of upsetting and I know at that time the Vikings had high hopes for Culpepper!

Hi Justin F!
I was looking into that earlier tonite. Seems like if LB don’t have backup that have some experience.
By Mike R. on Sep 4, 2011 | Reply
He had experience but Texans were switching defense….so…..

I live in Roanoke Va…I watched Adibi at Va Tech….when he was drafted I prayed for the Vikings to draft him….my/our prayers hhave been answered….Adibi is a super talent that has been plagued with a few unfortunate injuries…he will replace Erin before week 5 and will eventually become a pro-bowler under Singletary!

What are Mike Singletary’s responsibilities?
By likejoeybrowner on Sep 5, 2011 | Reply
Mike Singletary is the linebacker coach/ asst. to Frazier

I am afraid that another team is going to pick up Reisner. This kid is going to make an excellent pro TE. He fits into the mold of TE’s coming out of Iowa – see Dallas Clark & Tony Moeaki. I certainly hope he can survive and make it to our practice squad or some day we will admit to the mistake of letting him go……..
By Chaz on Sep 5, 2011 | Reply
Amazing pick up! That is exciting.
By Carl K on Sep 5, 2011 | Reply
After cutting Reisner, that only leaves us with 3 TE and 0 FB. I hope we can hide Allen on the practice squad.
By Don on Sep 5, 2011 | Reply
so are weakest position on the team(Safety) gets no adds to it huh.. Ok I know we can’t go pick up a guy but if we cut BB & Johnson (safety)..we could both are not what they are hyped to be..

I wish they would sign guys with easier names… XA OK?

Dang i really like Allen Reisner he was awesome when he was playing for the hawkeyes, i have a bad feeling that they are gonna regret letting him go

Perhaps the Vikings are getting ready to the WebbCat.
No fullbacks, no tight ends, only linemen, wrs, and a QB.

By DRXXXTASY on Sep 5, 2011 | Reply
The Vikes still have a fullback…… Jim K is a FB/TE or did you guys forget that…. Also, Jeff D plays that role occasionally as well. We will also be in 3 TE sets often, so the FB wont be necessary.

What Mike Singletary wants, Mike Singletary gets!! It’s obvious he liked what he saw when the Vikes played the Texans’!! One down, one to go!! Now that Chad Greenway is signed, let’s ink AP to a long term deal!! Go Vikes!!

Think Jess has the answer from 4-3 to 3-4…he looks like good depth for now…as for TE Reisner not sure that he is not like many TE’s that can be p/u with no NFL experince, I could see them maybe looking to add more of a blocking TE like JimmyK for rotation …those are much harder to find…including one with decent pass catching skills.
