Mr. Hippe’s Weather Report

Posted by Mike Wobschall on August 13, 2011 – 5:40 pm

It’s a long-standing tradition here on vikings.com to check in with Vikings Director of Operations-Team Travel Luther Hippe for a quick weather forecast right before kickoff. It’s only the first preseason game, but Mr. Hippe is already in mid-season form.

Tonight’s game-time forecast for Vikings @ Titans: 86 degrees and pleasant, with a 40% chance of rain.

Thanks go out to Mr. Hippe not only for his weather report but for his and his crew’s (Chad Lundeen and Paul Martin) efforts in getting us in and out of every city for every game safely.

yea rock judging from tonights performance and again we might be better with the 7 starters playing in the coming weeks, but it looks like we might be picking in the top 10 again

@moorevikes …. top 10 draft pick bad, i wont say first pick because we had 5 defensive startes not play

Sherels had the penalty, and probably blew at least one coverage.

However he did have a key block on Jaymar Johnson’s long punt return.
I look for Marcus Sherels to make the Vikings on his strong special teams play.
He also returned a punt about 8 yards.

sucks living out here in wyoming. won’t be able to watch the game until tomorrow night. not sure i really want to after reading rock n shawn’s posts. oh well new coach, new system, and the stupid lockout didn’t help matters. this season should be considered a giant mulligan if it goes bad.

question, where on the oline were they gettin threw? howd the new left tackle do?

  106. By martin on Aug 13, 2011 | Reply

a very meaningless game…but overall the vikings management has made bad player decisions since the end of 2010…from allmost going to the super bowl to this …if this team performs like last year the vikings have to clean house and spielman has to go ..spielman has made bad decision after bad decision….

  107. By Frederick Jones on Aug 13, 2011 | Reply

Jonathan Gilmore is a BIG linebacker. Perhaps they can move him to DT, to shut down the run.

The biggest positive in this game was the running game. Some of the offensive linemen made some nice plays. Dr. Love looked great, but didn’t play much. #11 and #19 looked good as WRs.

We struggled defensively this game. The biggest shock was how we defended the RUN. They started out running and it opened up the passing game for them.

In Webb vs Ponder, I would give the nodd to Ponder. But it’s very early yet, both will improve greatly. McNabb is the starter.

  108. By Frederick Jones on Aug 13, 2011 | Reply

Some of the young linemen played very well this game. They were inconsistent, but blocked well for the run.

    Did Hutchinson play?

I also was not able to see C. Johnson.

This game may have proved that the Titans are a much deeper team than the Vikings. That is all it proved. :)

  109. By Frederick Jones on Aug 13, 2011 | Reply

    @Shawn,

Thank you for the compliment. .

Hopefully the Vikings will play a lot better next week.

  110. By Shawn on Aug 13, 2011 | Reply

@moorevikes … it was more like our OL just got in the way, they didnt move anyone , Johnson looks weak and got beat a couple times and everyone on the OL got beat a couple times

If we didnt have athletic QBs it would have looked like Favre 2010 all over again …. EXCEPT WORSE

  111. By Frederick Jones on Aug 13, 2011 | Reply

It’s also true that Bernard Berrian looked good in this game.

I don’t think Jared Allen even played.

Brandon tipped the ball a couple of times in his short stint. He may be able to cover somebody!!! It’s possible.

    AAAAANNNNYYYYY THIIIIINGGG ISSSS Pooosssible !

Fred … I agree Ponder looked better in a QB competition but Webb showed his athleticism and needs to get on the field

as far as OL I agree Love looked solid but he wasnt playing first string so …

I think Loadholt and DeGeare may have been solid as well but SULLIVAN, HUTCH AND JOHNSON AND EVERY OTHER OL PLAYED HORRENDOUS AND IF FAVRE WAS OUR QB THERE WOULD BE A FUNERAL

  113. By Frederick Jones on Aug 13, 2011 | Reply

It’s hard to stay with the line play on TV. But I was watching the numbers, and their were new guys who made some good plays. There didn’t seem to be any consistency……

  114. By Shawn on Aug 13, 2011 | Reply

and nobody on our OL got any push meaning wherever the line of scrimmage was is where our OL stood …. good OL will drive there oppenents 3-5 yards

  115. By Frederick Jones on Aug 13, 2011 | Reply

Just like my writing, I used their instead of there. The other team went 35 yards on THAT play. lol

IF the Vikings are smart, the will learn a lot from this game.

  116. By Shawn on Aug 13, 2011 | Reply

fred all you had to see was our qbs running around the whole game because of pressure

  117. By Shawn on Aug 13, 2011 | Reply

fred I really thought McKinnie would get in shape NOT GET CUT …and because of the lockout … he really hurt us

WE NEED OL HELP BAD !!!

  118. By Frederick Jones on Aug 13, 2011 | Reply

    @Shawn,

Actually I did see a few good pushes from time to time. There was no consistency. Booker gained some of those yards because the OL opened some big holes…..occasionally!

There were some players who made good plays, offensively, defensively, and on special teams.

I would want to see the films, to point out the consistent players.

  119. By Frederick Jones on Aug 13, 2011 | Reply

There were two occasions where we would not attempt an easy FG, because Frazier wanted to give Ponder some experience. The score would have been 9-14 with those tries.

    Not sayin’ that’s great

McNabb shoots bullets- reminds me of Favre, but without the interceptions, and McNabb plays no favorites— he looked good. The offense will be just fine– Ponder outshined Webb by a mile== another Fran Tarkenton. Ponder will be a great one. Defense was a bit rusty, but to be expected as defense usually lags offensive preparations– and Allen, Winfiield, Williams and other star defensive players were not on the field at all. Much to work on, but that is exactly why this game was played– it did not have any bearing at all on the standings– Overall, I give the Vikings a B- for the day with optimism that we will make the playoffs.
