Previewing Day 3 And Practice #2

Posted by Mike Wobschall on August 2, 2011 – 7:40 am

It’s Day 3 at 2011 Verizon Vikings Training Camp on the University of Minnesota, Mankato campus and it looks like plenty of cloud cover will protect us from the heat, humidity and sun once again today. Hopefully the Vikings can get their work in at practice today before rain and potential thunderstorms hit the area.

Look for more of the same in terms of on-field action at Practice #2, as players operating under new contracts are still prohibited from participating and the entire team is not allowed to have contact in practice until tomorrow. As we did in yesterday’s practice notes, we’ll continue to monitor several areas of the team, such as who is returning kicks and who passes the eye test.

Sounds like Vikings Head Coach Leslie Frazier will meet with reporters again after practice this morning, so check back later for more talking points and for video of the entire press conference in on-demand format.

That’s about it for now, but check back in later for more updates on your favorite team and don’t be afraid to let us know what you want covered by leaving a comment or question in the comments section below this entry.

Mike, something is wrong with the audio from Leslie’s press conference from yesterday – what gives? I can get any of the other video clips and the audio is fine. Does anybody check this stuff out when it’s added to the site? Thanks and keep up the good work !

3dontheradio- I think the wind was really bad yesterday… that probably had something to do with it.

    Hey,
I’d love to see more practice coverage. I know my friend posted a link to the Packers website. They uploaded practice highlights and stuff that’s actually happening on the field. I’d love if you guys covered some of that.

We need to get Asante Samuel so coach do what you got to do and get him

I guess that McKinnies offseason conditioning didn”t go so well. This guy does NOT want to be here, so we should get rid of him.

more pictures would be fun to see. also now that mckinnie is gone, we have some cap space. we shouldn’t settle on unproven jenkins. i’d like to see malcom floyd in purple as or #2 or #3.

    Mike:

I’m happy with the coverage your providing so far in the early training camps. I haven’t been to Mankato in probably 5 years. I’ve heard there have been changes in rules as to how training camps can be run. I may have missed the rule changes in an earlier post. If not, can you clarify them? Also, in the practices so far this year (since you go to camp annually.) Are you seeing more or less physical conditioning. What are things you’re seeing that are unique to how Coach Frazier and his staff want to run camp, compared to previous seasons? (Is he getting his Escalade detailed in case he has to pick someone up at the airport???) HA! Some of these questions may take more time to observe, but hopefully as you observe changes I’d like to know. If we prepare the same way we did when we were 6 and 10, we can’t hope for much better. Thanks.

    Mike:
Is Olin Kruetz still available from Chicago? Yes, he’s old, but he is a quality center. Do you think the Vikings would make an offer? Or are they content with the centers currently on the roster?

    Mike:
Our roster looks immense, could you give us insights from coaches on the limited time to prepare for the season, and how they are able to adequately evaluate our roster? Thanks.
