Vikings Make Several Roster Moves Official
Posted by on July 31, 2011 – 12:15 pmOn the same day that Vikings players and coaches will check in to 2011 Verizon Vikings Training Camp on the campus of Minnesota State University, Mankato, the team also made official several roster moves. We’ll break them down for you right here, but we’ll also post the full press release this afternoon on the home page of vikings.com.
The Vikings signed a pair of veteran WRs to shore up that position, bringing aboard Devin Aromashodu and Michael Jenkins. Aromashodu, who is 6-2, 201 pounds, was most recently with the Chicago Bears – you’ll remember he had a huge game and the game-winning catch against the Vikings in overtime during the 2009 season – and he possesses a combination of speed and toughness. Jenkins comes from Atlanta, where he was coached by George Stewart for two seasons before Stewart joined the Vikings and where he was with current Vikings offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave for several seasons. Jenkins knows the Vikings offense inside and out and he provides Donovan McNabb a big target because he measures in at 6-4, 217 pounds.
The team reached agreement with five of its own free agents, re-signing the following: S Husain Abdullah, DT Fred Evans, S Eric Frampton, LB Erin Henderson and K Ryan Longwell.
Lastly, the Vikings signed their entire 2011 draft class, including first-round pick QB Christian Ponder.

Is it really hard for Viikings Management to get some humongous offensive line help?

am getting tired of reading all your negative comments fred, if you are really that unset over things, take your negativity else where and root for someone else. to all the fans who are complaining about the viks not being active in FA or signing their draft picks, well there you go, entire draft class signed, some of their own FA’s signed and other FA’s signed. to all of you as well as fred, if your not happy about it, take your negative selves elsewhere as well. SKOL VIKS and i will always love ya!

I agree, I think the vikes are doing pretty good for being to close to the cap in the start. I would have been happy if we didn’t take anyone and just start rebuilding. Instead of spending so much on free agency, lets buy a couple new scouts to find us diamonds in the rough next year. All this spending is good now, but eventually it catches up to a team.

I have been a die hard Vikings fan all my life. And the changes over the last few years are the most possitive I’ve seen siknce Bud Grant was coach. We have excelent ownership,a very high quality and knowledgable coaching staff, and some of the best talent in the NFL.It may take a season to all come together. But I believe the Minnesota Vikings are going to be a force to recon with.GO VIKES!!!

fredrick u need to know that we have given away 2 coaches that have went on to win superbowls and now we have a coach in the same mold as them not because they are blk but they have better vision and I can feel that in frasier. Trust me the players he is putting together will perform for him better than the players did for chill. I see good things this yr and if u think the coach has chosen these players not knowing how to use them u will eat ur words soon I say that to all that are knocking the decisions being made. All of it is not being decided by the front office and believe me frasier is having big input on who he wants on the field I’m with every player and the coach that is on this team un til they show me they can’t get it done, VIKING FAN EVER

vikes are obviously picking player that will fit into there system right away. they are going after the players that have been through it already or can quickly learn the minor differences. with the lockout they don’t have a lot of time for big time players to learn a whole new scheme. they are trying to have the team as ready as possible with the game plan they have going, that’s why you are not seeing us going after big time free agent’s.

Very glad we got the entire group of draft picks signed, can’t wait to see the first preseason game now.

I see vikes are improving. Lets get Cromartie to help our pass defense and Chillar fo LB. Also, need 1-2 Ol with Moss 1 more time. Moss,Jenkins,Harvin,Shiancoe, and Rudolph would be great for McNabb throw to.

What’s with all the Moss mentions in here? Didn’t we see definitively enough that he’s washed up last season?

Been a vikes fan since the joe kapp days.Would be nice to see them win the big one before i die.

Enough about Moss already people. Happy with the signings today, but still would have like to see Braylon come join us! That would have been a huge improvement along with getting rid of BB the laziest guy we have! Cromartie would have been a great pick up as well. We got beat deep too much last year. Lastly our O line definitely needs help along with a full back if we are to ever hang our hats on AP again. AP is a stud but he needs at least a crease if not a small hole to break those big runs off again. He can’t do it all alone against 8-9 stacked in the box which he always sees. Happy with what we have but we still need to address some areas. Long live the Purple People Eaters!!!

Ryan D’Imperio was on the practice squad and listed as a fullback last season and personally I thought he looked better to me than Tahi did in the preseason. he at least can execute a block.

Very happy with Vikings moves so far! Now all I can say is Tony Richardson,Tony Richardson,Tony Richardson. Great fullback and blocker!! Also a great leader type!! Go get him!!!

why not try Joe Webb at receiver has size and speed. Joe needs to play somewhere, I even try Joe CB. Need to be on the field somewhere.

I love the insights fellow fans have on the blogs regarding the Vikings. I think all of us were really disappointed and humbled by last season’s failure. It adds to more scrutiny of every offseason move, or lack thereof. I think the Vikings players experienced that same humiliation and we will see some improved production. It sounds like the new CBA really rewards performance. It lowered rookie salaries.

I dont know what the front office is doing but we need to sign braylon edwards before it is too late. He is the best receive left as a FA
By chad on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply
we also need to acquire cromartie some how some way
By Parody on Aug 1, 2011 | Reply
@Mike Wobschall – I didn’t see the DT from New Orleans in your list. Has his signing not yet become official, or did the team find a reason to change their minds?
By Tim on Aug 1, 2011 | Reply
HEY!!! be nice talking about people taking themselves elsewhere, it is not the fans fault that the team was being called the Minnesota Bengals at the end of last season.
We all need to be positive, think positive and lets get that first bowl ring this year.
Go vikes Go

This has been the best off season acquisitions I have seen in a long time! At first I wasn’t too happy about McNabb but after seeing his media interview I feel Washington made a very big mistake thank you very much. Even though he said he dosen’t have a chip on his shoulder that’s bull, he is going to prove all the analysts wrong and yes he has a very big chip and it’s in our favor. And what about the sneaky move to add Jenkins boorah! We have all the pieces in place for once with the exception of a hard nose CB and SS to bolster the D. But I still think that our secondary will step up because they don’t have a choice and they don’t want to be the stinky part this year.. So all the real fans put your seat belts on this is going to be a very exciting ride. And to all you fair weather fans get on the bus or stay home because Ziggy and the rest of the front office want to win and win is what we will do. Take it from someone who watched on tv our vikings first super bowl lost to Hank Strom and the Kansas City Chiefs. Go Vike’s! I am a fan for life win or lose!

Ir;s OFFICIAL—CENTER—OLIN KRUETZ is NO LONGER a chicago “cub”, they were $500.000 apart, so he’s available and even at 34 he’s got a couple (at least) good years left to groom our next starting center, Branden Fusco. I’d rather Kruetz as a mentor than Sullivan…..

GET MALCOM FLOYD AND THEN YOU HAVE A WINNING TEAM
By Gary on Aug 1, 2011 | Reply
lOOK, Vikings arre my team and always have been, but quit taking the 2nd rate WR cause you can get more for the money, One or two really good WR are better then haveing 6 average ones, Don’t no why you wouldn’t have gone after Floyd after what he has shown he can do. Yu need one more REALLY GOOD WR.Pay for him by letting two or three of the average ones go.
By Gary on Aug 1, 2011 | Reply
You could promise Moss a cheese buger and fries and and tell him if he catches at least 80 catches you will throw in a shake.
By drew on Aug 1, 2011 | Reply
Braylon Edwards, or Floyd is still available, we still need a shut down corner and a decent offensive line man.

I too am I die-hard Vikings fan since I was four. I also believe that they’ll have a great season this year. Two years ago, they made it to the NFC Championship with CHILLY! If they can do that, then they can AT LEAST make it to a Superbowl this year, and not in the Cleveland Browns kind of way. All of our draft picks are signed, we just need maybe a strong safety and a cornerback to pair with Antoine Winfield. We are contenders this year! SKOL VIKINGS!

I thought that the Vikings would learn their lesson by getting another old QB. Yes, Mc Nabb is a good player I agree but he is up there in age. One good hit on him from the Bears or Lions, and even the Packers Defense and we are back to a Rookie and Webb who personally I think is our best QB. We lose Rice and then don’t go after a WR that is just as good if not better then Rice, is a real head shaker to me. I agree that we have yet to see what our rookies can or can’t do. However, if we are in the win now build later state. Then why don’t we drop our dead weight and get better. AP may not sign another contract with us since his BFF is no longer with us. Yeah, he is in camp and not doing a hold out but its time to move on. Then their is our defense which was at one time one of the best in the league. They have gotten old as well. I know our new coach says this isn’t a building year for the team, but maybe it should be with all the free agents and young talent out there. Just saying maybe we are better to go young first and veteran mid to late 30′s veterans later.

The Vikes are doing just fine. We are sticking with the same concepts that have always made us contenders. We just signed some WRs that are going to mesh well with our system; we just signed an O Lineman to help raise the level of our O LINE. Just got another vet QB (never slows us down though) that will know how to run the system and will want to win. Lets see what Frazier brings to the table for some executive excitement and we are back to form. Let’s go Vikings!
