Mike, what is the status of McKinney? He stated at the end of last year he was going to get down to the playing weight he was at in collage. Did he stick to his promise, or is still at about the same weight he was at last season?

Mike W, what will the Vikings do if the Minnesota lawmakers put off voting for a new stadium until next year? Will they sign an extension to play in the Dome and for how long?

Vikings stadium in Duluth? We have yet to get a ‘no’

Mike: If I recall correctly, Frazier stated that Ponder and Webb would have their shot at earning the starting QB role for the Vikings, this no longer seems to be the case, since they have already named McNabb as starter. Is this final or does Ponder still have the chance to take a shot at the job? Also being this is final, what will the Vikings do with Webb since he has to much talent to sit the bench as a 3rd string QB?

MIke, ive been a long time reader, you do a great job getting us coverage of our favorite team. But my question is, we now need help at wideout, and you having the most knowledge about the FAs, trades, which receiver/receivers do you see the front office make a move towards? Im pulling for 84, he started here, its only right if he ends it here. Plus he would be a great deep threat regaurdless of age.

  8. By jdude on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

hey are the vikings looking for a veteran wide receiver like Braylon Edwerds ,or Randy Moss or are we going to keep the rookies we got.

Do you think the vikings will pick up a top #1 reciver like we need or go for another #2 reciver?

Mike, What is the defensive plan for the vikings are there any talks of picking up free agents on the OL, LB, and CB position?

Great questions so far everyone…I’ve got a few of them locked and loaded for the mailbag, which will be posted first thing tomorrow morning. Keep them coming!

I don’t know how to answer the stadium questions, DRS. I’m guessing the stadium issue has had no influence on free agent negotiations and my guess is the team will not sign a new lease to play at the Metrodome. So now is the time for our State leaders to help reach a solution on the stadium issue.

will the vikings get a cb or will they sign lito sheppard or frank walker

  14. By Taylor on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

Other than getting Mcnabb, and signing a few rookie free agents, It seems like the vikings have been fairly inactive during this seasons hurried free agency. We cut our most experienced safety in Madieu Williams, at a position we needed help at as it is, and the loss of Rice hurts our depth at WR. Is the apparent inability to sign our draft class tying our hands in the free agent market? If so, whats holding us up on signing our picks?

  15. By DRS on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

Thank you mike W. for trying to answer my questions, and I do hope the State Leaders vote soon to make the new stadium a reality.

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — A day after flunking one undrafted rookie halfback on his physical, the Minnesota Vikings signed another.

Alexander Robinson, a Minneapolis native and the fourth-leading rusher in Iowa State history, told 1500ESPN.com’s Dan Tracy in a text message on Thursday afternoon that he had just signed with the Vikings.

“I’m very excited about it, and being able to have my support system and everyone so close to me will be great,” Robinson said.

i thought i had read that the vikes will get a first round draft pick as compensation from the league if Rice signed somewhere else. did i misread that months ago?

  21. By Jim M on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

There’s a lot of talk about free agency. How much under the cap are the Vikings? Can they really compete money wise with the rest of the league?

Mike W, How many rookies have flunked the physicals?

  23. By bigl on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

is ownership still a fan of Randy Moss as he was when he brought him in last year, if so why not bring him back to finish his career where it started. Childres’ bad move can be put to rest and we get back our game breaker.

Mike W, How soon will the Vikings players be showing up at camp?

  25. By vikes on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

Is Mcnabb going to be here for one year or did he get a 2-3 year deal. Also even though we signed jenkins are the vikings still talking with braylon edwards because I think they still need a legit #1 reciever( Braylon is the closest thing to that).

  26. By Shawn on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

    Mike ,

Have Ced Griffen and / or Chris Cook shown up to winter park and or Mankato yet? If so have they had physicals yet and are they 100% or still rehabbing? A lot of our secondary issues could be solved if these two are healthy.

@animal … great question. I was going to ask that as well but since you did I got to ask about our two starting corners that were injured last year.

    Questions on…

Inactive free agency: Vikings have not been inactive. We’ll be releasing all of our signings this afternoon. Lots of names, some you’ll recognize and some you won’t.

Compensation for Rice: Because of the new CBA, Rice was an unrestricted free agent, which means the Vikings do not receive immediate compensation for losing him to another team.

Cap situation: I don’t know where the Vikings are exactly in terms of the salary cap, but I think they feel comfortable with where they are and with their ability to sign players they need.

McNabb contract: I don’t know the particulars of the McNabb contract, but suffice it to say that 2011 is all that matters for McNabb right now. He’s focused on winning this year, not on what might happen down the road.

Griffin and Cook: I’ve seen both of them at Winter Park recently but they have yet to show up to training camp. Report time started at noon today (Sunday) and goes through 4:00 p.m. Sunday.

I don’t like Winfield as safety as much as i like him at CB covering the slot receiver. But I do like Brent Grimes as an addition. I think Frazier feels set at CB, though.

Mike -here we go camp starts today…two big issues for me.#1 OLT Mckinnie&Brown are the only experienced ones on roster..#2 SAM Leber unsigned Erin H not experieced…Do forsee F/A signing for eather of these spots? Will OL coach Davidson shake up these guys and help protect McNabb this year? thanks for your news…

  32. By RWF1984 on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

Mike, What is your take on signing Jenkins? I saw that the Raiders kept Michael Huff (a player I was hoping for the Vikings to sign) and I was wondering what safety that is out there would be a good fit? Or are they satisfied with just having Abdullah, Johnson, Raymond, Sanford and a un-drafted FA’s Chris Adingupu and Ryan Hill?

  33. By Lance The Red on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

Tatupu a 3 time pro bowler was let go by the hawks today because of cap room by the looks of it. He is young and should be a good pick up to replace Leber wouldn’t you think?

  34. By Lance The Red on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

also, what about Arceneaux? I know he had great numbers in the cfl as a wide out and we signed him to a 3 year deal back in january. He worked out all summer with ponder. Anyword on him if the staff feel that he will replace rice? footage shows he has the talent thats for sure.

  35. By Andrew on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

With the release of Madieu Williams, what do you think the plans are at safety? Will they have Tyrell Johnson, Jamarca Sanford, Husain Abdullah, and the rookies compete for the starting job or will they sign a free agent. I wouldn’t mind seeing Darren Sharper come back and play for the Vikes. Thanks.

do think that the vikings may try an persue nate clements? with his addition at db, it may be what the vikings are looking for. being a fan it gets hard watching them get burned on the pass game just bout every season lately. and also will the take a chance a edwards. his presance may take off of harvin. jus asking with curiosty. and what;s with cromartie, is he still testing the open waters?

    Mike,

You have always been good at hinting to fans what is going to happen next with Free Agency and Draft picks.

I noticed that you wrote an aricle recently about the offensive line and potential free agents that we could land. I also saw that you were hinting that we don’t particularly need anything on our O-line.

I personally think that we could use an upgrade in multiple positions on the O-line. Is Free agent signing out of the question for our O-line this year, or is it still a possibility??

    Thanks Mike

McNabb and our free agents can’t practice until Aug 4, yet Ocho, Haynesworth and Asimoghua (sp) are already on the field? What’s the deal?

  42. By vikesfansteve on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

What about Floyd? How about trading for Vincent Jackson? Olin Kuertz at center?

Mark Craig of the tribune said on his live chat the Vikings will not go for Moss because some people in the organization don’t like him from last season’s attitude. Is that true? Moss would be a good fit for McNabb it seems.

I have heard reports that the Vikes are interested in braylon edwards. Is this true and if so are those rumors now gone since we signed Michael Jenkins?

Something i think what has been lost in the lockout and everything is the health of percy. Any news on him and his migraines since i do believe he is going to be heavily relied on to carry the recieving corps we need him in 16 games this year and practices not missing half the year with headaches. what is the status on him if you have heard anything?

  48. By Carl Brodin on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

    Mike,
Since we signed Jenkins do we really need Berrian around? It seems to me he’s just taking a roster spot that could be better used on some one else that has talent. Cromartie would be a good fit? Olin Kruetz a possibility? At S Brent Grimes a possibility? Justin Blaylock still available?
    Thats all for now.

Somebody on here brought up the idea of a stadium in Duluth?

  50. By Carl Brodin on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

    Mike,
It would not be such a bad idea to get the stadium rights away from those blood suckers in the Metrodome commision what a crock. What an economy boost for Duluth and you would not have to have a seperate bill to improve the Highways up here. I think it would be an awsome idea not to mention the jobs it would create for this area. Minneapolis/st.Paul has enough attractions let a smaller town have some of the action.

Mike hey i noticed that the vikings have signed Jenkins to replace Sidney rice but i feel as if he isn’t really going to help much. so i was wondering are the vikings going to pursue randy moss again or possible maybe even next year when Larry Fitzgerald a free agent will the vikings try to bring him back to minny.

  54. By Larry V. on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

Are the vikings looking at signing an OLB to replace Ben Leber? I believe Manny Lawson is still on the market. He would be great to have on the team and hsi former coach, Mike Singletary, is are linebacker coach. He could also help Erin Henderson, who sounds like he might be favorite for the job, ease into the position. What do you think?

hey mike does McNabb being a lefty affect the o-line or any aspect of the offense since when the ball is snapped the quarter back is naturally looking at the side of the arm he favors?

  59. By Ted Bogan Sr. on Aug 1, 2011 | Reply

This has been the best off season acquisitions I have seen in a long time! At first I wasn’t too happy about McNabb but after seeing his media interview I feel Washington made a very big mistake thank you very much. Even though he said he dosen’t have a chip on his shoulder that’s bull, he is going to prove all the analysts wrong and yes he has a very big chip and it’s in our favor. And what about the sneaky move to add Jenkins boorah! We have all the pieces in place for once with the exception of a hard nose CB and SS to bolster the D. But I still think that our secondary will step up because they don’t have a choice and they don’t want to be the stinky part this year.. So all the real fans put your seat belts on this is going to be a very exciting ride. And to all you fair weather fans get on the bus or stay home because Ziggy and the rest of the front office want to win and win is what we will do. Take it from someone who watched on tv our vikings first super bowl lost to Hank Strom and the Kansas City Chiefs. Go Vike’s! Fan for Life win or lose!
