Vikings Tab LB Ross Homan As Final 6th-Round Pick

Posted by Mike Wobschall on April 30, 2011 – 3:03 pm

The Vikings selected 4 players in the 6th round of the 2011 NFL Draft, with the final selection being LB Ross Homan out of Ohio State. It sound like Homan was a leader of the Buckeyes defense and was also a valuable contributor on special teams.

Homan joins a Vikings team that has a former LBs coach Fred Pagac as the defensive coordinator and Mike Singletary as the LBs coach.

Here is the scouting report on Homan: “Homan is an undersized linebacker with good speed that could potentially develop into a starter on the weak side. He runs very well and shows the ability to chase running backs down from behind. He is a smooth athlete that makes plays in space and flashes the ability to mirror tight ends and running backs in man coverage. However, he lacks the strength and shedding ability to be a run stopper at the next level and can be a non-factor on running plays directed at him. Homan has the skills to be a quality Tampa 2 linebacker and will likely be a middle round pick.”

Love this pick. Probably the best value taken in the sixth round. Benched more than any other linebacker in the combine. Can cover and has good hands. How did he fall this far?

Vikings drafted good program players, shows you they want smart players. Atleast not too many division 2 schools.

This has been a very good draft. I just watched D’Aundre Reed’s workout. Who is the last guy they take? I know we have plenty of QB’s, but there is one kid that is a Joe Webb kind of athlete still available and that is Jerrod Johnson. He had a bad season last year coming off a shoulder injury, but I think he is an excellent athlete. McElroy was my guy ahead of him but he is gone now. Maybe the Vikings take a punt return guy like a speedster WR?

@ Mike B That OL guy at 6.0 is not very mobile look at his tape on the web. His side shuffle looks labored.

We saw Ross play throughout high school and he is a great human being. His parents raised 3 exceptional boys and he will be a great asset to the Vikings and to the game of football in general.

Smart intense football player, he made all the defensive calls for e buckeyes and made sure everyone got line up right. He always is around the football and has a knack for being at the right place at the right time whether its fumble or interceptions he has a nose for the ball.

Look at his stats and game of play. A great field general and a solid, awsome pick. Thank goodness the Vikes are going the right direction!

Vikes had a good draft, not a great draft but one that should help them.
