Burton A Viking From The Start?

Posted by Mike Wobschall on April 30, 2011 – 1:59 pm

For most draft picks, there’s really no way to know which team you’ll end up with after the NFL draft. But for Vikings 5th-round pick CB Brandon Burton, there was apparently an indication from early on in his childhood.

Check out this photo that Burton shared with the Vikings on Saturday…

Burton felt comfortable in a Vikings uniform a long time ago

I’ve spent many years wondering what the Viking front office was doing on draft day. Usually, they did better than average. But, this year is turning out to be Great right from the start.! And I believe that these new team members are going to make us all proud.

We have addressed some area’s over the last 3 days very well however,
we still have to protect our new quarterback!! Offensive line always tends to be
looked at by the purple boys as a 3rd day issue and this will be the only area
where we may falter this year.

I hat to be contrary, but, this is quite possibly one the worst drafts in team history… I will be suprised if three of them make the team… and none will be a starter… Ponder will not be healthy for more than four games, ever…. Please, let’s try to get rid of Rob Brznski (sp) and Spielman… has anybody noticed that since the Kitties got rid of Spielman, they are getting better and we are getting worse??? And when Rob left the Chiefs, they got better…. why are we carrying these yo-yo’s… one good thing will be that we will have dynamite draft position next year!!! Go Vikes!!!!

the TE we drafted will be the only starter. for more than a couple years. and we have the most scoring TD’s TE in the game right now. really hated this years draft. last years too dont know what changed from the peterson Harvin years. dissapointing.

even if we have a good position next year it wont matter we will reach for players or take positions that arent needs.

Everybodys complaining about Ponder but the Vikng Update has him rated higher than Dalton.Remember nobody heard of Brad Johnson and he turned out ok.He has Peterson and Harvin.Give him a chance

I hope that this years draft will produce elite talent. It would be nice not to worry about our QB for once in 20 some years. Living off a WR and a mediocre to excellent defence all this time just gets old. I mean, the Vikes FINALLY have a RB, FINALLY. And our OL decides not to block last year. They did the year before. Our WR group plays when they want. The DL is just getting old and tired. And our DB’s (do I have to go there?) It hasnt changed in years. I felt cheated (Minn vs NO). I expected it! We get great players. Yes GREAT players. and band wagon fans. Josh and Chuckles, we get the point. Go back to Greenbay. YOU ARE NOT FANS

Congrats Vikings staff for a good job on the draft. Now let’s put it together and let the unmotivated players go. Leslie, minimize excuses for this year’s performance, please. There is a lot of excitement with this team. Please get humongous linemen help to protect Ponder.

It is hard to tell if Ponder will be a good choice or not. i woulnd’t be surprised if Mcnabb or another vet comes in for the next year or two to train him up a bit. I like Rudolph as long as his past injury stays in the past and I like that we added to the OL, DL, and DB spots. I need to research our new wideout and see what he is like. Either way, we still have Percy and AP baby!! Go Vikes!

My opinion: B grade draft for us

joshk seriously? The #1 TD scoring TE last year? You obviously don’t know what your talking about. Shianco was toilet last year and he is getting up there in years. I think he scored like 3 times last year and Gates, V. Davis, G.Olsen, T. Gonzo, D. Clark, J. Witten, all scored more for sure. All of our TE’s are what you would call experienced veterans which is why that is such an important pick. He will learn from them this year but I guarantee you they will find a way to get this kid on the field and after this year Shianco’s contract is up and this kid will be our starter for a long time, he is that good, watch the tape. TE’s like this are hard to come by. He is Gronkowski from NE and Heap from BAL combined. A game changing TE. Great pick in my opinion!

Also if you remember there were a lot of fans that didn’t like the AP pick. We had Chester Taylor who just rushed for 1200 yards and we needed a QB. Brady Quinn was a popular pick that year and people wanted him in MN. How did that work out for us? Give Ponder a chance!

a true fan will always support there team regardless of who they pick and how good they have done. these guys havent even step on the field and some people already putting them down cmon guys we can only hope if they are good then thats great if they are not then they are not they will probably get kick off the team I like the picks and will support them as long as they are a viking.Go vikes congrats to Burton, B. how awesome is it to be a vike fan and to get be drafted by them.

RE: Chuckles T Clown: Dude you need to brush up on your facts. Rob Brzezinski is the finance guy, the salary ca manangement specialist, who BTW is REVERED in the NFL, due to his salary/cap management saavy. He has nothing to do with selecting player personnel. As far as the rest of your choke & puke drivel… go blog elswhere… Vikings don’t need fans like you.

I think the Vikings had a great draft this year the only thing i worry about Ponders is the deep ball but to be honest why do we need one I am a huge fan of the deep ball but if you look at the QB in the draft Ponders is by far the smartest QB in the draft so finally we can have a QB that can read a defense and scan the whole field and with AP and Rudolph and Shancoe and Harvin and Rice the Vikings offence is gunna be a force to recon with. I know you gunna come at me with the o-line sucks thats why we got Ponders an accurate quick short pass thrower a guy that wont make a dumb decision in the quick pass with defenders in his face. He is quick enough to get away and make the play if need be.

  25. By Brian Kistner on May 1, 2011 | Reply

So we got a QB that looks identical to Mat Ryan when you look at their tape side by side; we got the best TE in the draft and a guy who looks like he posses the ability to be the next Steve Jordon; we got a DB in the draft late and a DT that were both graded as number 2 picks and we got depth at C and OT and got a very good OLB to replace Leber and that was a bad draft?

  26. By B+ Draft on May 1, 2011 | Reply

I give last year’s draft a D and this year’s draft a B+, and if Ponder works out it becomes an A+.

Anybody who thought that this was a bad draft had way too high of expectations!! Most just hate the Ponder pick, but honestly they were going to have to take a chance on a QB anyway and it’s better to get the guy you want than try to get creative and miss him. (remember the 2010 draft when we traded down and got Chris Cook instead of Devin McCourty?)

With the unknowns of free agency and without being able to sign undrafted free agents, I think the Vikings handled it very intelligently. All picks had high value and directly addressed needs. I suspect that we just pulled 3-4 immediate starters in a QB, a TE (who has superstar written all over him), OLB and maybe DT as well as added solid depth addressing each need with high-value, versatile players who are going to get signed cheaply because they slid.

great picks, dont listen to these people whos being negative about the draft. i like!!!!!!!!!!

  28. By gr8scot on May 1, 2011 | Reply

Draft grade depends on Ponder. More on whether he can stay healthy. A smart, quick release QB is a good thing. Probably he was taken too high. But you can’t trade down just because you want to. Somebody else has to want to trade up. He’d of been gone by the Vikes 2nd pick. Most of the teams with QB needs were at the bottom of the draft. Hope he works out as the Vikes expect.

well now that the lions have the best line in football no qb in the division will last more than three years anyway.i cant take the idea of never getting a ring in my lifetime and im 41. the packers won shanko bowl (no td call in gb game is how they were even in playoffs)bad draft, bad o-line,bad dbs.only free agency can save us now and thats a strech …cya rice he will never sign i wouldnt either ..this is getting old vikes fan for thirty five years
