A Quick Look At Extended Mock Drafts

Simple 1-round mock drafts are a big enough inexact science. So what does that make a multi-round mock draft? Perhaps even more inexact. But they’re fun to look at anyway.

Recently both of’s draftniks – Mel Kiper, Jr. and Todd McShay – released their 3-round mock drafts.’s Pat Kirwan has had a 2-round mock draft for several weeks. So since’s Mock Madness 4.0 just came out this week and won’t be updated until next week, let’s take a brief look at a few multi-round mock drafts. It’ll be good fodder to tide us over for the weekend. – Pat Kirwan
We’ll start with Kirwan, who has the Vikings selecting DE Cameron Jordan with their 1st-round pick (#12 overall), saying Jordan is “is stout, can hold the point of attack, is nimble and can rush from the edge.” In the 2nd round, Kirwan projects the Vikings to take OG Danny Watkins of Baylor. – Mel Kiper, Jr.
In what has become a consistent and nearly unanimous theme in mock drafts this year, Kiper also has the Vikings take a DE in the 1st round. Kiper says the Vikings will take DE Da’Quan Bowers, a player many regard as a top 2 or 3 pick if not for a knee injury he sustained last season. Says Kiper of Bowers: “Bowers has seen his stock take a slight hit in the past few weeks as he faces questions about just how healthy his knee is coming off surgery for a torn meniscus. That said, the Viking should be giddy to get a pass-rushing talent like Bowers at No. 12. Once the No. 1 player in the country coming out of high school, many believe Bowers has the skill-set of a No. 1 overall NFL draft pick.” In the 2nd round, Kiper has the Vikings taking another defensive lineman in DT Stephen Paea. – Todd McShay
McShay agrees with Kirwan in projecting DE Cameron Jordan as the Vikings 1st-round pick. “Bowers will be in play if his knee checks out but Jordan is a good option given his size, quickness, power and versatility,” says McShay. For the 2nd round, McShay predicts the Vikings will select OT Marcus Cannon.
