Stadium-Exclusive Question/Answer Feature Debuts Next Week

Posted by Mike Wobschall on February 28, 2011 – 2:28 pm

We take a break from our 2011 Scouting Combine coverage to introduce and promote a new feature we’re going to have on vikings.com beginning this week. It’s a stadium-exclusive Q&A that will keep Vikings fans informed on the latest developments.

The stadium issue is one that’s been top of mind for the Vikings and their fans over the last several years and right now there’s a growing sense that progress is being made. Positive momentum has been building, but that doesn’t mean we should begin to care less. Now is the time to get informed and get active in the discussion.

Beginning this Wednesday and continuing throughout this Legislative session, vikings.com will provide an exclusive stadium Q&A feature that will allow Vikings fans to submit questions. Each week we’ll select questions and both Vikings VP of Public Affairs Lester Bagley and Vikings Assistant Director of Public Afffairs Jeff Anderson will answer those questions. This will be a great way to stay involved and stay informed in this discussion.

So, to submit a question for this new feature, you can do one of two things:

1) email your question to me at wobschallm@vikings.nfl.net. In this option, be sure to put STADIUM QUESTION in the subject line of the email so I know your inquiry is stadium-related and can be shuffled to Bagley/Anderson.

2) submit your question to the comments section below this entry.

Remember to include your name and town.

If the Vikings get a new staduim, where is it most likely to be located? And also how soon will they get started on this project?

    @Moses,

The Stadium question has been beat to death on Vikings.com. All the powers that be have done is talk at this point. You have to have money, and a season to be optimistic about building a stadium. I believe that is holding them back just a wee bit.

  3. By Frederick Jones on Feb 24, 2011 | Reply

There are incentives to move to LA, and a stadium is being built. I think most would like to see the Vikings stay in MN.

But will there be a season?

Apparently Dan Rooney of the Steelers is the only owner who is against the 18 game schedule. He says to keep an open mind about it, there are things they can do to make it safe, like adding bye weeks.

Goodell and company seem to be going by the old adage, “If it ain’t broke, break it !

If the owners get there way, GREED, will ruin the NFL. There are ten times more injuries now, than is reasonable. Playing more games, even with rest, will not help reduce the number of injuries.

It may take a few DEATHs on the field to convince the owners that this 18 game schedule is fool hardy. I think 16 games is too many, but I won’t go there !

  5. By Frederick Jones on Feb 24, 2011 | Reply

How is adding players to the roster going to help reduce injuries?

And allowing players to only play 16 of the 18 games?

Matt Birk, Center for the Ravens, and a former Viking who went to Harvard, has an idea.

He said the NFL should allow two more teams into the playoffs, and eliminate the first round byes. They could also eliminate the two pre season games.

According to him, a strike is inevitable because there are no games at all until August anyway.

The “BREAK HIS FREAKING NECK” crowd, need not respond.

A recent poll showed that 73% of the fans are against the expanded 18 game season.

After listening to DeMaurice Smith, I think it is inevitable that an 18 game schedule will be implemented. Hopefully they will at least wait until the 2012 season ! ! !

Is there a more commonly used expression in sports than “AT THE END OF THE DAY”???

SELFISHNESS and GREED will ruin the NFL !

It’s also not a good idea to compromise, and go with an 17 game schedule !

Those concerned about ticket prices for pre-season games: YOUR STINKING BANK ROLLS ARE NOT MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE HEALTH OF THE PLAYERS!

In addition quality of player will go down even more. Yes, this is also true for you end of the day people.

At the end of the day…BREAK HIS FREAKING NECK !

This is not 4 on 4 backyard football like you experienced as a 9 year old.

Many NFL players actually go to the bathroom ON THEMSELVEs, on the field.
    Yes, #1 and #2.

    It ain’t touch football anymore ! ! !

Eighteen games may be too many games with the number of teams in the NFL at this time, and injuries are a concern, but turning the NFL into a flag football mentality is not the correct way to go. I remember in the 60’s players were injured often, broken legs and such, they did not play as many games as they do now, they played harder and with more hart for far less money and perks, they where men with true grit. The equipment of today have cut down injuries, making it safer to play, do you not think it would be a boring game if the players were wrapped in bubble wrap and played in rubber stadiums? Would it not be safer if we built robots to take the players place? I think you get my point.

I do feel that all will depend on if there is a work stoppage or not, I feel that a new stadium is inedible, it is a matter of time, and that CA stadium is not a forgone deal, it may fall apart, besides it is shake and back territory, the big 10.0 is coming someday soon.

State lawmakers have promised to bring forward a stadium bill soon that would include a proposed site. There appears to be up to four options, including where the Metrodome now sits near downtown Minneapolis. Two other sites in Minneapolis are under consideration, and several commissioners in next-door Ramsey County are preparing a push for a former ammunition plant site in Arden Hills, north of St. Paul.

Tony Bennett, the commissioner pushing Arden Hills, said he envisions county taxpayers contributing at some level. Vikings executives have toured the site and met with county officials, and Bagley said Thursday the team sees the site as “promising.” At the same time, he said, the current site of the Metrodome would be most cost-effective.

The Vikings have said they would pay about one-third of the cost of building a roofless stadium. Gov. Mark Dayton and most lawmakers have said they prefer a more expensive roofed or retractable-roof stadium that would be more versatile.

Dayton repeated Thursday in an interview with Minnesota Public Radio that he believes the Vikings should pay for at least a third to one-half of a stadium tab estimated to reach at least $700 million. Dayton said he believes the state’s share should come from stadium users through fees on purchases such as food and gear or through taxes on hotels and rental cars near the new stadium.

Mondale said the commission never considered not going ahead with the roof replacement even though the Vikings have vowed to leave the Metrodome.

“We’ve been paying those insurance bills for a reason,” Mondale said.

I can see your thoughts about 18 games and I agree with you, what I do not like about you is you are disrespectful to anyone who is not of your way of thinking! In addition, you seem to be a black racist, he who hates whites. Now I respect your views but respectfully disagree with some of them.

The Vikings are the embodiement of Minnesota. If they leave for LA they should change their names to something annoying whinny and pathetic. Maybe name them the Efrons.

Wow, I thought Fred was going on his exact same rant all over again, and then I looked at the date. Why’d Mike drag an old blog up to the top of the pile? I think it would be more effective if he started a new blog indicating that he hasn’t gotten enough quality questions on the topic…

Nova give the little guy a break. I know it smells like a zoo, but that’s just because nobody in the Madison capitol has gone home to bathe themselves in the last week. Besides, fåggots is a difficult word to spell, it uses up all seven of your tiles in Scrabble!

Why hasn’t anybody in Minnesota started a fund to send all proceeds toward a new stadium? I think that if we could create a program where we have fans donate money to a fund, that we could generate a great amount of money due to the growing want of a new stadium.
    Thanks, Chad.

Arden Hills has taken another step towards a plan. At least according to star tribune. While I guess some people think the Vikes want to use AH as leverage to get one where the stadium currently stands.

Hey Guys, I would be happy to pay more taxes to keep the Vikes. I was a huge Northstar fan and they literally moved out in the middle of the night. I have been writing my congressmen and senators to tell them that I will not allow them to lose another team. I swear I will move to WI where they back their teams. This makes me sooooo mad!!!

i live in VA. i could care less if you guys don’t support the team enough to keep them from moving to LA. want to know why? i’ll VISIT LA at some point…. there is a ZERO percent chance i’m visiting MN for any reason. ah, California… football in the sunshine. beautiful! you guys will be sitting at home, crying your eyes out, “waaaaaaaaah how could we take them for granted?!!!”…… while i’m strolling down Sunset with the top down in 70 degree weather. JUST SAY NO TO A NEW STADIUM!

by the way, here is my prediction for a team name if they move to L.A.: keep in mind this is a PREDICTION. i didn’t say it was a good idea. actually, i think it’s super lame. but new team names are always lame. ready? The L.A. Coastals.

If the new stadium gets past how soon will the Vikings start using it? If legislature asks for more from the team will they do it to get the stadium?
