Hi, obviosuly the safety position is not a strength of the Vikings. With Bob Sanders relesed today what are the chances of the Vikings signing him?

  2. By cody on Feb 18, 2011 | Reply

what are the chances of the vikings going after bob sanders now that he’s been released

what are the chances Bob Sanders lasts more than 2 games without getting significantly injured next year?

  4. By Jimmy on Feb 18, 2011 | Reply

Hey, many are talking about Bob Sanders and going after him, however now that OJ Atogwe has been released by the Rams wouldn’t he be the the more sensible pickup. I remember hearing some noise of the Vikings being interested in him last year, however the Rams gave him enough money. Perhaps this could be the offseason we pick up a serviceable safety?

  5. By Rory on Feb 18, 2011 | Reply

Sorry to repeat just like all the other guys but we need a top safety and now Atogwe is free to sign with other teams I dont see a reason why we shouldnt go after him. He makes more sense than Sanders.

What are the chances of the Vikings signing Randy Moss back to Minnesota? We all know he had a chance last season but it didnt worked too well due to Moss coming late to Minnesota. Not to mention he wasnt at training camp and instead was traded in the middle of the season therefore his lack of touchdowns wasnt as much maybe because Favre needed a couple more weeks to get use to the new Receiver.

are there any chances that you guys will make in signing Randy Moss back in MN? His age is a bit of a concern, but i think we can squeeze maybe 3-5 more years out of him. What are your thoughts?

  7. By Stoney on Feb 18, 2011 | Reply

Kong, I also like the idea of Moss back in purple. Bring Rice back, w/Harvin and the CFL guy, not to shabby.

I would rather them draft quinton carter in the first round than get sanders, he’s injured all the time what’s the point.

    Hey,

There was talks (just talks) about Ray Edwards not being happy with the team and might wanting to be released. If so, could he be traded for a 3rd round pick so then the Vikings will have one? If that does happen, will Eversen Griffen become the automatic starter, or will they try using someone else or drafting a DE.

As a defensive minded coach, and the need for an elite safety in our secondary do you think Frazier, or Spielman would go after Atogwe now they he is a free agent?

  26. By Ethan on Feb 19, 2011 | Reply

I like the idea of bringing Moss back, who wouldn’t? But don’t we have to re-sign Rice and Greenway? They won’t be cheap this time around. Plus, AP’s contract is shortening, so we have to put money back for that.

  27. By Shawn on Feb 19, 2011 | Reply

@Ethan … good point why even let a guy like Greenways contract expire, Peterson should have a contract a year early IMO … I understand the pain they must feel with a talent like Rice who hasnt played a 16 game season yet and has only had 1 good year … NOT EVEN A MOSS OR CARTER YEAR BUT JUST 1 GOOD YEAR

    Best Season

    S.Rice ……………………. 83 rec ……. 1,312 yards ……. 8TDs ….. 14 games
    C.Carter …………………. 122 rec ….. 1,371 yards ……. 17 TDs …. 16 games
    R.Moss ………………….. 111 rec …… 1,632 yards ……. 17 TDs …. 16 games
    A.Carter …………………. 72 rec …….. 1,225 yards ……. 6 TDs ….. 16 games

Moss had a better year in New England but these are the best seasons as Vikings AND RICE WILL DEMAND TOP DOLLAR , WE NEED TO FRANCHISE HIM WHICH WOULD BE A 1 YEAR DEAL FOR HIM TO PROVE HES WORTH IT

  30. By Guest on Feb 19, 2011 | Reply

We should consider grabbing a corner or linebacker in the first round, I have a feeling teams will be toying against our defense as always. When was the last time we ever applied pressure throughout the season. Teams have always targeted the vikings secondary something has got to be fixed asap. A disruptive defensive end safties and corners you can never have enough of corners. Teams like the fudge packers are spreading out the formation to 4 wideouts we need more corners and safties.

  31. By Jimmy on Feb 19, 2011 | Reply

Jvernon, in response to the fixing of the oline from C to RT, i think the vikings should be looking at LT a whole lot more than RT. Big Bryant has had a plethora of pass blocking problems over the past two seasons, and Hutch isn’t getting any younger. chris degeare is a decent prospect, but protect the blind side. I still believe Loadholt has great upside and is working on his pass pro.

@shawn- Nice stats but I must say S. Rice’s best year was good but 2 out of 3 years he has caught 17 or less in a season.

So I don’t think he is worth a franchise tag.

A franchise tag means the Vikings would guarantee to pay him a 1 year contract average of the top 5 WRs. Rice has only 115 catches in his first three years. That is like 39 catches per year. Not that great. B.Berrian has caught 28, 55, and 48 over the last three years. Remimber Bobby Wade? He caught 53 one years and I believe the Vikings cut him the next year.

Harvin and Shiancoe have caught more over the last 3 years than our WRs(Berrian and Rice)… Shiancoe is a TE and Harvin has only played 2 years.

Am I the only one who thinks are WR are OVERRATED??

We can fix our WR problem by drafting Julio Jones in the 1st round.

  55. By Bubba on Feb 19, 2011 | Reply

@shawn- transition tag I can live with. I think that allows Rice to test the free agent market and still gives the Vikings the chance to match his best offer.

What are the top WRs making? I think Andre Johnson has a 7 year 73.5 mil contract. Greg Jennings is like 9 million per year.

I can agree with your thought process that a 1 year deal to prove he is worth it is better than a multi year multi million dollar bust deal.

I may be wrong, but I just don’t think any team in the NFL will offer him top 5 money right now with his health and inconsistent production… so why should the Vikings? I think the Vikings are better off right now NOT to tag him and just match what other teams are offering him. If the Vikings tag him and he has a great year it will cost them even more to keep him next year.

I am just afraid the Vikings will have two high paid WR who have struggled to consistently catch 40-50 p@sses per year over the last 3 years.

Everyone is talking about how bad our Oline is and how bad our QB situtation is that they forget just how inconsistent our wideouts (Berrian and Rice) have been over the last 3 years.

Is it time for a change? Is WR Julio Jones worth the 12th pick??

Both Bob Sanders and O.J. Atogwe have been released by each of their teams this week. If would could get either of them, I feel that Atogwe would be a better fit for the Vikings since Sanders health has been since a major concern over the past several seasons (only played 9 games of the past 3 seasons due to various injuries). So Atogwa is a free agent do you think we will go after him and sanders at all. Go get a WR, Safety, and two CB, and a OL. Also a QB is needed. Do these and we will be a good team. GOOOOOOOOOOOOO VIKINGS.

    @Titus,

One thing about this off-season blog…you can be gone for hours, come back, and still be the most frequent blogger.

I now understand the blogging for Favre and Moss. But there have been people who have wanted Moss back since Childress got rid of him.

If I was Childress, I would have done the same thing. Either way Childress knew he was going to be history. Why put up with disrespect?

We need a cornerback… and there will be plenty of good ones that will fall to 12th. I say pick up Otgwe and go after the best CB available at 12th. Re-sign Rice and Greenway, and make sure we keep Edwards too. We do need another DT, but honestly our secondary is where we hurt the most.

btw He (T-Joke) seems like a guy you wouldn’t mind having a chat with at the bar, but he’s just not cut out to be a star at the QB position in the NFL as much as klink isn’t cut out to be an NFL HC, but they’re both good people otherwise!

Our run defense got worse and so did our pass defense, I heard the vikings want to run the ball more good luck with that teams will score fast therefore eating up the clock won’t do any good if we can’t stop other teams from scoring.

The defense suck I agree but I believe its not thier fault u try being on the field almost all the time every game u will be so tried. but I bet u get some key player at a couple of positions and some good back ups and they will be back to themselves I say free agency we focus more on defense and the draft offense you all agree biggest thing for vikes defense stay health

    Hey,

The Viings need this season are deep in free agency and the draft. However, the stadium issue is big. How much do you see the Vikings being willing to spend on free agents? Seeing as how we may have to dish out a lot of cash to help build a stadium.

  135. By Jason on Feb 20, 2011 | Reply

Sign Asomugha and Atogwe and Kolb. Resign Greenway. Grab some of the lottery money to help. If money still leftover resign Rice and draft an OL 1st round. If can’t resign rice then. 1st round Draft Julio Jones unless AJ green is still open. 2nd Round, draft Casey matthews in replace of Leber. Let Everson Griffen take Edwards Spot. Extend Peterson’s contract mid season. Change the Defense to a 3-4 scheme since Allen and K. Williams will be big D-linemen and not all 4. Have C.Griffen and A.Winfield and Asomugha cover 3 receivers. if 2 receivers only throw Griffen or Winfield to rush. Simple, but money’s the problem. Like I said Use lottery to help.

I’d like to get Moss back. With Chilly gone and the poor performance Moss had last year, he definitely has something to prove. I just don’t know that proving Chilly wrong will be enough of a reason for Moss to return to the team that dumped him twice. Plus, as he is getting closer to the end of his career, he’ll be more likely to try to sign with a team that has better odds of winning a Super Bowl. There’s just so many question marks on the team that I don’t think he’ll want to chance it.

I would go with protection of their franchise QB.
