Vikings Finalize Signing Of CFL WR Arceneaux

Posted by Mike Wobschall on January 26, 2011 – 1:35 pm

Over the weekend, reports emerged that the Vikings and WR Emmanuel Arceneaux had agreed to a contract. On Wednesday, the agreement between the Vikings and the former CFL receiver became official.

I haven’t seen Arceneaux in person, but it appears he’s a big receiver (6-2, 211 pounds) and he’s certainly been productive over the past 2 CFL seasons while playing for the B.C. Lions. This past season he caught 67 passes for 1,114 yards and 5 TDs and his total over the past 2 seasons came out to 130 receptions for 1,972 yards and 12 TDs.

The Star Tribune’s Chip Scoggins noted on Saturday that Arceneaux reportedly worked out for 8 NFL teams since December and had narrowed his list to the Vikings, Bears, Dolphins and Seahawks.

He seems like he will be a good addition to the team. Now they need to extend Peterson, Rice, and Greenway. Then get rid of the waste of money the none productive waste of roster spaces.

I am not sure on who he is i just hope he is good. Now for the QB issue if the team gets a QB the team will be very stupid for getting one. The team needs to get one through via trade of free agency. There aren’t any QB’s in the draft worth taking. We need to address the OL and the DB’s in the draft. I would suggest nick farly from auburn, or the outstanding cb from lsu. Thats what you need to address in the draft. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO VIKINGS.

I’ve read that we are looking into taking one of the best DEs from the Candian Football League as well. That would do a good job of plugging the hole that Edwards opened up since he’ll be demanding a lot in free agency.

I think Vince Young deserves a shot with the Vikings. He is speculated as a pretty cheap free agent, and has a lot of potential if he can turn things around. And I think that the coaching staff that Frazier has put together is perfect for helping him get his act back together.

So if we land Young I think our best choice in the first two rounds is a DB and an OL. If Leslie and the gang get this stuff done, our team will be looking tons better next year.

Alex those guys might be gone by the 5th pick let alone the 12th lol… And did someone actually say Lito did a good job this year?

As the old song goes, the future’s so bright, I have to wear shades. Clearly this team is beating the bushes for gems out of the CFL and UFL. They also get to draft ahead of Detroit and well before either Chicago or Green Bay. The pieces required to get back into the hunt are all available. Frazier’s new coaching staff with have the cards to play competitively. There is also no yelling in the media about collective bargaining negotiations, which is a good sign the NFL and NFLPA are both talking to the only people who can actually make a better CBA into a reality, each other. If only the local barn gets fixed before the herd just sort of wanders off toward California.

About this guy he’s quick for his size, has decent hands, and is willing to go over the middle. Could be a good possession WR, like a Boldin type.

Elgar you can’t sign CFL guys after a certain point in Feb. and you can’t start signing them until Jan 3rd. They only have a certain window, hopefully they pick up Phillip Hunt.

On the defensive front i hope we get DE Phillip Hunt CFL this would fill a need. I was glad to see that the contract of the WR from the CFL was made official we have a need there. We need another WR through free agency a good one. 1st round QB 2nd round OL or Sfty 3rd round OL or Sfty. I was wondering if we had a 3rd round compensitory pick? 4th round OL or LB which ever has best value. 5th,6th,7th round picks depth or special teams players. Maybe we should trade Mckinnie for a third round pick that would either give us the replacement 3rd round pick or a second 3rd round pick would be nice and get a 2nd OL or LB. Do we still have OT Patrick Brown? We need him for depth. Get rid of Mckinnie,Berian,P. Williams,M. Williams, That would free up some money. I also think we should sign Olin Kruetz C free agent from the Chicogo Bears. This would strengthen our offensive line. We also need to take a look at WR Freddie Brown from last years practice squad if he’s still with us. I saw Ricky Stanzi from Iowa he could be the guy were looking for. Jake Locker i’m not so sure about he did not look good from what i’ve seen.

Viking Joe- I love joe webb but your comments make me scared if anyone in the front office is thinking like you you want to draft 2 qbs you and childress should get together on how to ruin this team TWO QBS? in a draft where people dont even know who the first QB to be taken will be! and you want two of these guys! scary Trust me no one is a bigger Joe Webb fan watched the last day of the draft when we got him reasearched him that day and from that mometn on i wanted Joe to be the future of this Franchise

good job on the WR all we need is a good QB and sign Sidney rice and chad green way and extend Peterson contract we could draft a QB and pick up a veteran QB

Vikings4life all i have heard about is he QB position that if we get a QB from the draft that will cure the teams ills. Thats why i like that the Vikings are inquiring about Phillip Hunt DE FROM THE CFL. He would make a good addition along CFL WR Arceneaux are to of the other pieces we need like i said get Olin Kruetz free agent C from Chicogo bears. Then the NFL Draft Rd 1 p 12 QB Ricky Stanzi Iowa looks good from what i’ve seen on here. Rd 2 OL. Does anybody know if we have a compensitory 3rd rd pick for loosing Randy Moss? If we do Sfty. Like i said earlier trade Mckinnie for another 3rd Rd pick get another OL that would be nice. Rd 4 LB Rd 5 OL or WR depth Rd 6,Rd 7 ST depth. Like i said earlier We should keep WR Freddie Brown and OT Patrick Brown. B. Berian,P.Williams,M.Williams getting rid of the four i mentioned should free up some money so then we exstend Adrian’s contract. Sign Greenway,Rice. Erin Henderson should start in place of the departed Ben Leber.

Carl…. I don’t know for sure but I’d guess that the league doesn’t hand out compensatory picks to teams for being stupid. Why should they give us a pick? “Well, you guys are idi ots, so here’s a free pick to make up for your slackjawed decision.” I’d rather they take either the best CB or OT if either is available… may have to trade up in the 2nd to get the QB they’d like, but most likely not. The QB pool appears to be weak but deepish, if that makes any sense. I agree about Stanzi… he talks a good game… if nothing else, I like listening to a QB that sounds like he actually excelled in college rather than had someone else do all his homework for him. Agree about Greenway/Rice/Peterson, but I wouldn’t hand Erin the starting LB job… let him compete for it.

Lito was garbage, frank walker was a better addition. the vikes is good at db if cedric and cris cook come back healthy, we need another playmaking safety to hold down the other side of abdullah cause williams to slow

  21. By de-oj8 on Jan 27, 2011 | Reply

seen some highlights of Arceneaux he is a straight up beast to go with rice and harvin and v-shank. he remind me of andre johnson big physical and fast and will go get the ball. don’t sleep on phillip hunt thats a speed rush off the edge vikes defense was missing. get rid of edwards cause he should dominate while jared, pat, and kevin was getting all the attention

we should trade mckinney, maybe someone will thing he is worth something

I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba and of course my team is the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the CFL, and the Vikings in the NFL.
I can tell you that in watching Arceneaux the last two years that the Vikes have themselves a good young talent. He’s deceptively fast being a long strider and has pretty good leaping ability and hands. Doesn’t seem to mind blocking downfield either.

  24. By Gubber on Jan 28, 2011 | Reply

Oh, and while I’m at it I can tell you about Phillip Hunt since he played with my hometown Bombers in the CFL. Phillip is in the 255-260 pound range which is ample in the CFL. But I honestly don’t know if his frame would accommodate him getting any larger as it may detract from his speed. Might be a candidate for linebacker, but I don;t know how fast he would be in coverage or going sideline to sideline. I guess I would qualify him as a “tweener”. Do not confuse Phillip Hunt with Cameron Wake of the Dolphins. Two completely different animals !!!

Now that we have this new wide reciever from the CFL Arceneaux,Harvin signing Rice would be good. In case we cant i have seen some scouting reports on NFL network on 4-5 Wide recievers Austin Pettis, Titus Young Boise State, Niles Paul Nebraska, Vincent Brown S.D. State, Greg Salas Hawaii, Cecil Sheets Mount Union div. 1a. Also a couple of decent G-C jOHN Moffit Wis, Danny Watkins Baylor, William Rackley Leigh, Safety is also an area of need Quinton Carter.
Another intriguing prospect CB Richard Sherman from Stanford. I know when everybody comes back we will have a enough CB’s but this past season shows you could always use one more. I think we still have Marcus Sherells CB on the roster but Sherman has nice size at 6’2 193 LB’s like Chris Cook. I was also woodboat whats going on with Phillip Hunt of the CFL and the Vikings. Even though he light on the weight side i think he would still be a nice addition to fill a position of need and would pair nice with Everette Griffin on that side. What did you think about trading Bryant Mckinnie for a third round pick? We could give Patrick Brown off the practice squad a chance or bring in a F/A to compete with him for the LT position. Trading Mckinnie along with the losses of P.Williams,B. Leber,B. Berian,M.Williams,A.Herarra and the retirement of B. Farve would leave us with a good chunk of money. Signing Chad Greenway and extending AP’S contract is a must. In my opinion it’s time to give Erin Henderson a chance. I suppose giving him some competion would be good to push him to see if he’s ready i however think he’s ready. It would be nice to see the the Vikings get 2 of 3 of the interior lineman i mentioned you could partner those guys with Chris Degreare the rookie guard that subbed infor Steve Hutchinson. Maybe moving down in the draft to get a few more picks and maybe taking our QB in the second round and let him learn behind Joe Webb because i think we have seen some good things from Joe Webb at QB and then find a F/A to be 3rd QB.

Did anyone else figure out Favre was a cheese-head forever. He cost us a Superbowl and a season on purpose! throwing an interception all at the right time. When he met with the packers about taking money to retire, It was about getting on vikings and destroying us…… Brilliant Favre Didn’t fool me. Makes sense if you watched him in that way! Obvious

  29. By Carl Brodin on Jan 31, 2011 | Reply

I think the Vikes should trade down to the jags pick and maybe get a 2nd rounder to. That would give them two second round picks so they could get Pouncey’s little brother because he can play either G or C. Then with the first of our two 2nd round picks take a QB and with the second 2nd round pick take a Sfty. Then with our third round pick take a Guard. Trade away Mckinnie for a third and maybe fourth round pick and with the possible second 3rd round pick take a OL and with the second 4th round pick get a WR or LB.

Anybody else relize Namdi Asomugha and OJ Atogwe are both free agents? if the Vikes have enough doe… that would be amazing!

  31. By de-oj8 on Feb 2, 2011 | Reply

They might not have no namdi money depending on the cba, if we resign rice and greenway. that would be nice though. the db from north carolina burnley in the senior bowl played good.

  32. By Gubber on Feb 10, 2011 | Reply

    Carl ,

Great idea about moving down in the first round if possible and obtaining an extra second rounder. Only problem is Randy Moss ate up the Vikes third round pick.
