Hey Mike any chance the vikings will pursue nmandi awesomwa we can replace him with winfield.

What positions do you think the Vikings will try to improve through the draft and pick up in free agency? Any updates on future potential coaches?

  3. By Carl K on Jan 9, 2011 | Reply

Bill O’Brien was a former offensive coordinator for Duke University and is currently the QB coach for the Patriots. Any chance the Vikings interview other people for the offensive coordinator postion. New England assistants alway seem to become great coordinators.

    2 Qs Comin at ya!
    1. With all the free agents the vVikings g=have do you think that they will resign Greenway? He is one of the best OLBs in the NFL in my Opinion.

    2. Will the Vikings pursue a young QB like Kevin Kolb or do you think they will look for a rookie like Cam Newton instead?

  5. By Rory on Jan 9, 2011 | Reply

What’s the latest on the interview/s that happened on friday? Is McDaniels likely to be hired in some capacity and was Mike Singletary actually interviewed for a coaching job? Also, who do you see the vikngs pursuing at QB? Orton, Kolb or maybe a rookie?

  6. By Khalil on Jan 9, 2011 | Reply

Hey are we gonna get Mcdaniels and Singletary what are the chances ? Will we pursue Tim Tebow Nnamdi Asomougha Champ Bailey and Logan Mankins in Free Agency ? Best chance to win the SB next year right there.

  7. By Rogerthevikefan on Jan 9, 2011 | Reply

When will the contract extention talks start up for Greenway and Rice? What are the chances McDaniels will be the new OC? If they do sign McDaniels what are the chances that Orton will be a Vike? If there is no Orton will they go after Kolb or try their luck at a rookie?

What do you think of Chris Carter and Chris Doleman chances at joining the hall of fame?

do you think we will pick up nnamdi asomugha the shut down corner and donovan mcnabb? i think if we get the right coaches and the two players i just talked about were sb bound

  10. By mr smiff on Jan 9, 2011 | Reply

Kolb has a two-year, 12 million dollar contract. And if you believe hm, he still has a great relationship with Reid. He’s not going anywhere.

  11. By mike on Jan 9, 2011 | Reply

What’s with people asking about Kolb that guy sucks I watched him play and he’s not any better than any QB on our roster. If we get him than we can prepare for another horrible season, we need to worry about signing our free agents like chad and sidney. I would rather draft a QB instead of getting Kolb please don’t get him.

To answer a few common questions here:

    – I say a very slim chance Nnamdi Asomugha ends up in MN. He’ll command a monster salary and there will be a lot of competition on the open market for him.

    – I don’t have an update on the coaching interviews conducted by the Vikings on Friday. I left work on Friday with no update and haven’t heard a word since.

    – That’s it for now. Check out tomorrow’s Monday Morning Mailbag for more answers on more questions.

What are the odds that the vikings go after Nnamdi Asomugha now that he is a free agent? Signing him would help out a secondary that has struggled a lot lately

  14. By Mike Wobschall on Jan 9, 2011 | Reply

I disagree with mike on Kolb. He looks like a QB with huge potential to me. Andy Reid like him enough to make him the starter entering the 2010 season and if he had not suffered a concussion in Week 1 then we may never have seen Vick have the season he had. Kolb might be the starter still.

I think he’s a nice, young QB that’s a great prospect. If I were the Eagles, I would not let him go or trade him.

  15. By mike on Jan 9, 2011 | Reply

I heard we interviewed Mcdaniels what are the chances of us getting him because that guy knows how to run an offense. And I also read about us looking at Singletary as a linebackers coach if this is true than it seems like were trying to take some big steps forward.

It’s been much debated on this and I would like your opinion.

Should we go for QB in the draft or Free Agency or should we shore up the other weaknesses on this team, namely the offensive line and defensive secondary through the draft and free agency and try to pack the team with talent to surround a young QB like Webb or Bomar?

I personally think we should do the latter.

  19. By VKing56 on Jan 9, 2011 | Reply

Why do you think Chris Doleman is not yet in the HOF? He has all the stats to be there.

  20. By wewherehorns on Jan 9, 2011 | Reply

what are the chances of us getting donovan mcnabb in the offseason?

  21. By mike on Jan 9, 2011 | Reply

We need to rebuld at the QB position I’m tired of us getting these old players that only last a year or two. I think Joe Webb would be a good fit for us with some more experience because he can kill a defense with his legs or arm if you look at our team history our team is more successful with scrambling Quarterbacks.

I heard we have something like 17 free agents this season. Obviously we can’t keep them all. But too me Sidney Rice and Chad Greenway are two young and dare I say dominant players at their respective positions. Too me we cannot afford to try to replace those two guys. I would love to keep Ray Edwards as well but its going to cost. Do you think we could keep all three of those guys if the team wanted? And do you agree about Sidney and Chad? Thanks.

Will the Vikings pursue acquiring Nnamdi Asomugha from Oakland? He’s a restricted free agent, but a proven quantity as a great corner back.

JT: I agree with your first two picks. Edwards is a freak. Some games he looks fantastic, other games he seems pedestrian.

Could we get a full list of all the players who are up for free agency, are retiring, or are just in a position where their future with the vikes is more or less questionable (or if there is a list somewhere out there already, could you direct us to it). Also what is the vikes current status with draft picks, which ones do we have, and what have we traded for/away?

What positions can we expect to see some personnel changes at during the offseason? Everyone is speculating and making suggestions, but what news, if any, are you hearing from within the organization? Anything more specific than we have already heard?

Also, with the season over, how do you feel about rookies Chris Cook and Everson Griffen? Unless I missed something most of your talk about this years draft picks has centered around Gerhart (who I personally believe worked out great), Webb, and recently a little about DeGeare. Did Cook and Griffen perform up to NFL standards?

@K’net – here is the list of players whose contracts are done this year:
    Lito Sheppard (CB)
    Frank Walker (CB)
Ray Edwards (DE) Should keep him or Robison
Brian Robison (DE) Should keep him or Edwards
Pat Williams (DT) Better to keep our young guys and let him walk
Fred Evans (DT) Shows potential, may be a good re-sign
Naufahu Tahi (FB) What has he done lately? We can do better…
Ryan Longwell (K) Looks like he’s lost some strength, may want a younger guy
Chad Greenway (LB) Should be re-signed
Ben Leber (LB) Not enough production, some younger guys deserve a shot
    Brett Favre (QB) Retiring
Tarvaris Jackson (QB) Who wants to re-sign him?
    Eric Frampton (SS)
Ryan Cook (T) Too many penalties, is he okay being a career backup?
Sidney Rice (WR) Should be re-signed
    Greg Lewis (WR)
    Hank Baskett (WR)

We also signed some other players mid-season who I’m not sure about but most of whom I’d assume are also becomming free agents during the offseason due to the nature of most mid-season contracts. These players include:
    Lorenzo Booker (RB) He has shown some promise and would be a good re-sign at the right price;
    Patrick Ramsey (QB) A first round draft pick back in 2001, but hasn’t shown his worth yet;
Rhett Bomar (QB) Somebody said he was given a 3-year contract, but I don’t know if that was true.

Other players whose contracts I’m not certain about and could have ended in 2010 include:
    Thomas Welch (G)
    Kenny Onatalu (LB)
Jaymar Johnson (WR) If his injuries get worked out, I’d like to get him back
Albert Young (RB) *Listed as a restricted free agent in 2010, but I doubt we’ll retain him.

  45. By Parody on Jan 9, 2011 | Reply

Sorry, forgot to list Husain Abdullah (FS) who’s also listed as an RFA in 2010.

Due to his increased production towards the end of the season, it would be a good idea to put a #3 or #2 hold on him, making it so that teams would have to surrender a draft pick if they want to take him away.

  46. By Parody on Jan 9, 2011 | Reply

As far as draft picks go, good luck asking Mike about it. I asked that question last week and he completely dodged any actual answer to it.

What I do know is that we still have all of our orignal picks excpet #3 (traded for 4 weeks of Randy Moss, thank you very much Mr. Childress). We also have at least 2 extra picks this season from trades. 1 of them in the Sage/Reynaud trade to NYG, and the other in the Jayme Mitchëll trade to the Browns. I would assume a 4th and a 5th rounder from the Giants and Browns respectively, plus a conditional pick from the Giants, but for now that is all speculation. There was one point right after the trade that I thought I read we got a 2nd rounder for Mitchêll, but that’s likely just wishful thinking.

Its time to get Asomugha as our new CB. Also get Champ Bailey and we will have awesome Cornerbacks. Get a safety and Albert Haynesworth nd get rid of Pat Williams. We need to re-sign Edwards, and get a new QB. We could deal with Orton, McNabb, Palmer, or Kolb. We can work with these players as our QB. We also need to re-sign Sidney Rice. We need to get rid of Berrian and get Moss back, T.O., and Chad Johnson. Or maybe Larry Fitzgerald from Arizona. You do these things and we will have a good superbowl contending team. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO VIKINGS.

Nova…. Where have you been? Or maybe it has been me?

  52. By Parody on Jan 9, 2011 | Reply

@Ben – the sarcasm towards Chilly wasn’t about acquiring Moss, I was exctatic to get him back! The problem was that the overpaid egotistical control freak cut him 4-weeks later! I was naive enough to give Chilly the benefit of the doubt up until that point, but it was PAINFULLY obvious after that moronic move (needless to say that the entire week showed what a complete retãrd he was) that he was what was causing all (or at least most) of the problems in the team.

It’s a shame that Childress wasn’t fired the second that he cut Moss. At least then we could have rescinded the firing of #84 and our receiving corps would be the strongest point on the team. Now I feel that we might need to draft a WR, and we are already without the #3 pick that had otherwise solidifed the position.

    Two question

1 is there any chance that the vikings pursue nnamdi and switch antioine to Fs

2 or is it possible we go after champ bailey and make him safety

Alright, now there looks to be some hope in the vikings getting josh McDaniels. According to a new report. Frazier has told Bevel and Brian Murphy that they are free to search for new jobs. http://www.dailynorseman.com/2011/1/9/1925690/report-darrell-bevell-and-brian-murphy-free-to-search-for-other-jobs?ref=yahoo

  55. By animal26 on Jan 10, 2011 | Reply

McDaniels and the Chiefs are crossed off the list of being together. Looks like they are going to hire Mike McCoy.

  56. By Parody on Jan 10, 2011 | Reply

I heard about that animal, and at the least it means that Frazier is unsatisfied with the current coaches’ production and is researching other options. The unsettling part is that McDaniels is reportedly still out to interview with other teams (KC at least). So we may not have worked things out with Josh, but there are other good choices for Frazier to consider even if the first one doesn’t work out.

I’ve seen on NFL.com that the Vikings are going to go through a “dramatic change” with our roster. Who do you expect the Vikings to retain and who do you think they will release? Are there any free agents that we are thinking about targeting in the future?

  58. By Norman on Jan 10, 2011 | Reply

Will we focus on Alex Smith? He has clearly shown promise within the spread offense and will come at a lower cost to open more doors for others to come. If the Vikings fill the holes in a cost efficient manner, we will content in a big way in 2011. Go Vikings.

    Hey,

Been a longtime vikes fan since the mid 70′s, I’ve heard rumors that the vikes may be heading to Los Angeles. Is this true? Whatever the organization decides to do, they need to resign Chad Greenway and EJ Henderson. In my opinion , they are two of the best linebackers in the game.

Why is the organization taking the risk of losing prized players such as Greenway and Rice by waiting until the new CBA comes out to resign players? We should show those two especially that they are important players for Minnesota to build a championship team with.

  69. By Rogerthevikefan on Jan 10, 2011 | Reply

Who knows Greenway should have been extended last year and the year before he is are best LB. He should have made multiple pro-bowls but he doesn’t have high sack totals like Clay Matthews but he is the better LB.

  73. By Nainoa, Hawaii on Jan 11, 2011 | Reply

The Vikings need to resign their FA’s Greenway and Rice. Once that is accomplished they should release Madieu Williams and either cut Berrian or reduce his salary. They should also sign a veteran S and OL. Once all that is said and done they should draft CB in the first round, hopefully either Peterson, Prince or Harris fall to us. And finally draft Casey Matthew in the second. We would have a fairly solid team after this and can work out the QB position from then on.

Most important is getting Greenway and Rice resigned.

  74. By Matt on Jan 12, 2011 | Reply

in my opinion, berrian is WAY overpaid for what he has actually done this season; grab asomugha he may be expensive but he has much more years to come than bailey, put abdullah at FS, and put winfield at SS….

The state of Minnesota seems like they wont bother for a stadium for the vikings. The city of Los Angles is currently building a football stadium that is NFL approved seems kind of suspicious. Whats the chance of the Vikings moving to Los Angles after next season due to not getting there own stadium? I think its a done deal that they will be gone.
