Halftime: Lions 10 – Vikings 0

Posted by cjsiewert on January 2, 2011 – 1:35 pm

The Lions closed out the 1st half with a 15-play, 94-yard scoring drive that ended on a 7-yard TD pass from QB Shaun Hill to WR Nate Burleson (both former Vikings). The 4:39 drive gave the Lions a 10-0 lead at halftime.

Hill has had his way with the Vikings defense throughout the 1st half, completing 20 of 25 passes for 161 yards and a TD. Burleson has been his favorite target with 5 receptions for 50 yards and a TD, including a 20-yard gain on an end-reverse setting up a 55-yard FG by K Dave Rayner midway through the 2nd quarter.

The Lions defense has bottled up Vikings RB Adrian Peterson – 7 carries for 8 yards (long of 10) – and have kept rookie QB Joe Webb in check. Webb has completed 7 of 13 passes for 60 yards and an INT, including 3 carries for 20 yards.

CB Antoine Winfield and LB Chad Greenway continue to lead the Vikings defense with 7 stops apiece. DEs Jared Allen and Ray Edwards combined for a sack and LB Ben Leber has a forced fumble credited to his name that resulted in a critical turnover deep in Vikings territory.

The Lions will receive the 2nd half kickoff.

The offensive line and secondary ruined this season for us. Tom Brady would have had a tough time getting this team to 500.

Even Favre in his prime probably wouldn’t have gotten these jokers into the playoffs.

JOE is going to need some help to overcome this deficit. Have you noticed our run game is almost non-existant entering the 2nd half.

    A.D. just got 3.

The O-line needs another horse or two!

Put Marcus Sherels in the game, he’ll score a touchdown for ya!!!

That line is awful. Our defense played fantastic Tuesday. Today when the D makes contact they get dragged for four to five yards. We just ran a reverse with absolutely no blocking. Loadholt blocked down like a sissy and let a corner and linebacker come free. Webb gets sacked as McKinnie looks on…. Just a question… In the first half Booker had a great return. My question is, is their an unwritten rule about running over the kicker? At midfield, Detroits kicker pushed him out. What if Booker would have ran him over like a raccoon on the highway?

Where’s the D? Where’s the play calling? Is it because the game is not nationally televised?

Webb will be the QB next year. He looks good, but needs some help. The lions have converted almost every 3rd down. That is unacceptable. Lets go vikes! finish the season on a good note!

pc, I agree the dbs are not so hot!

Still, if we obtained some offensive linemen we could give the D a little more rest.

Frederick, when we’re behind, we have typicly gone about 70% passing. This has nuetralized A.P.’s effectiveness. Hopefully, next year we’ll play ahead and stay ahead. Touchdown Jared Allen. Why is it when I blog with Frederick good things happen?????? Bizarre.

Arrow, how come we are always on defense this game?

  14. By SmileyStar on Jan 2, 2011 | Reply

    Jared showed up!
We can’t lose to the Lions! Lets go Vikings!

With Allen getting active (Jared, that is…) Is it too difficult to let him move from right to left end? Edwards has played enough ball now to also be able to make this adjustment wouldn’t you think?? Or is this more difficult than I think?

Let’s not forget, it took a defensive td to get us going against the Eagles too! LET’S GO VIKINGS!!!

Frederick: We’re always on defense because we have no O-line blocking. We need that to sustain drives. Look at the effort Harvin and A.P. go through to get us 3-5 yards. I’m glad Loadholt can watch as Webb gets planted. Early in the first half, how does a wideout jump offsides? (Greg Lewis). If they are a fraction of a second off of the snap they can make that up, they know where they are going.

    …..Pressssure on Defense.

Thanks McKinnie we’re now at 2nd and 16. Maybe if he’d block someone we’d be at 2nd and 6 instead???? If the juice on the sideline is that good, just stay there big fella.

On offense throw to the backs.

  21. By Arrow86 on Jan 2, 2011 | Reply

Is McKinnie too highly paid to be of any value in a trade? Granted, we’d be lucky to get a 5th rounder for him. Who is our O-line coach anyway??

  22. By Frederick Jones on Jan 2, 2011 | Reply

We need help in alot of areas. But the defense seems more solid than the offense at this point.

I wouldn’t turn down a playmaker at any position, if you can get one!!!!!

I think Webb needs to do a designed roll out to Loadholt’s side or a QB draw just to get the defense stretched a little bit. He has had Booker wide open for 6 in the first half, now it’s time to work on our throwing mechanics. He just ran for 6 yards.

Wow! 3rd and 2 and we throw for 1 1/2 yard. Thanks for the knucklehead Lion (He must have went to Oklahoma State.) getting the penalty.

Empty backfield sets make it fairly easy to guess what we’re trying to do.

  26. By Arrow86 on Jan 2, 2011 | Reply

13-10. Dial up the defense and let’s hope for good field position.

ARROW…The Lions want to give the Vikings the game. Let’s take advantage!

I’m going to the most recent blog.

We’re back in it fellas! Let’s go!

Frederick: You said throw to the backs. Isn’t Detroit crowding the line anyway bringing 8 and 9 in the box. Won’t they snuff those out? What’s your take on that??

Mr. Smiff: Welcome and I look forward to hearing more from you.
