Bradshaw Puts Giants Up 21-3

Posted by cjsiewert on December 13, 2010 – 8:52 pm

In a game that has seen Vikings P Chris Kluwe boot the ball away 8 times, it was only a matter of time before the Giants broke a big play with all the opportunities they have been given. And Giants RB Ahmad Bradshaw did just that on a 48-yard breakaway TD down the left sideline, giving his team a 21-7 lead late in the 3rd quarter.

On the ensuing kickoff, Vikings KR Lorenzo Booker took the kick back 96 yards for the TD, but Jasper Brinkley nullified the play by committing a block in the back penalty, bringing the ball back to the MIN 43.

The Giants lead the Vikings 21-3 at the end of the 3rd quarter.

It’s easy to see Webb has a better touch on releasing the ball than Jackson, does. If Webb was at 100% health wise he would do even better!

While I wasn’t one calling for TJack to replace Favre, I did say more than once that both had proven themselves capable of leading the offense.

    Clearly I was wrong.

I would like to hear the TJack Defenders say the same.

It would appear to me that we did badly in all aspects of the game. Clearly the Giants were the better team today. Disappointing, but not unexpected. And no, I do not believe that putting Favre in would have mattered today. More likely he would have been injured worse and we still would have lost. The passing game was not the only thing lacking today.

T-junk is more like it. My 84 year old grandma can hand the ball off better than that. Probably throw better too. The only qb in the game who can’t hit a bus standing inside of it. I’m disgusted. I can’t even fathom why he’s still in a Vikings uniform. I’ll bleed purple til I die, but this is sad. Just leave him in Detroit….

  38. By Stephanie on Dec 13, 2010 | Reply

Meekay…Favre could not have played…could not. It wasn’t a matter of if they should have played him. he literally could not throw a ball very far or with velocity and his hand was purple and it’s been numb all week so he couldn’t grip the ball very well. It really wasn’t a matter of if they should or shouldn’t have played him. that being said, it’s obvious to all the Favre haters that there are so many other things wrong with this team this year. and no, sorry, I just don’t think Tjack is the answer. I’m trying to give him a chance, but I just have a hard time seeing it.

  39. By purplerainman on Dec 13, 2010 | Reply

Webb, should be the man going forward, give the kid a full week of practice and a chance. T-Jack had his. Can’t beleive that when I heard Favre was coming back, and Berman picking them win to win the superbowl, that this would have been the outcome. What a sad time, especially in the 50th season. This is way bigger than Chilly, this is a team making a joke out of the NFL.

  40. By Stephanie on Dec 13, 2010 | Reply

penalties, bad o-line, not stopping the run, miscues, and many other things have been wrong with this team. there is not one main thing that sticks out. who cares if you win the turnover battle if you can’t move the ball down the field or stop the other team from moving down the field?

  43. By DRS on Dec 13, 2010 | Reply

This team was doomed before the season begun. I think Farve knew this and did not want to come back. It took some of his buddies to come and get him. The Vikings then thanked these guys by trading some of them. Moss sounds off and they trade him. All this is Chilly Willies doings. This is Chilly Willies team what do you expect? Thanks Farve for all you tried to do. Have a great retirement and I would like to see you coaching someday soon.

I cant believe Percy and Hutchinson … such an important game

  45. By PurpleParody on Dec 13, 2010 | Reply

I’m agreeing now. Time to put Webb in to give the kid some experience. The playoff chances have now officially dropped down to ZERO. It’s time to start looking to the future, and it appears that TJack still has not learned enough to be a starting QB in the league. But at least we finally got the chance to see it for ourselves, and not have to wonder what if anymore.

I still don’t know what we’re going to do with Webb though. He seems to be a great athlete, but are we going to make him our #1 QB, or will we be grabbing someone for that in the draft? If we get someone out of the draft, then we still need to find some way to make use of Webb’s skills. We’ve wasted them all year so far.

  46. By purplerainman on Dec 13, 2010 | Reply

@DRS – Sadly, that makes a lot of sense.

  47. By Justin on Dec 13, 2010 | Reply

How do we rebuild? Zygi needs to get a copy of the entire roster and coaching staff and look at which people need to be cut. Some big sacrifices may need to be made if we want to look to the future. That doesn’t mean cutting Peterson and Rice (god forbid), but guys like the Williams Wall may have to be cut.

  49. By SmileyStar on Dec 13, 2010 | Reply

Actually we were doing fine until TJACK took AP and himself out in one play. The Offense fell apart after that. Worst part is, they showed Favre on the sideline, didn’t look good. If Favre has a presser, he will likely take the blame for the loss on himself, saying he needs to be healthier. Poor, Favre.

    Justin,

I agree some cuts have to be made but finding replacements isn’t going to be easy. We lost draftpicks and our record isn’t bad enough to ensure early selections out of the draft.

Like I said, I think its going to be at least a couple of seasons before we will be able to field a competitive team.

    I hope I’m wrong, but I don’t think I am.

  56. By purplerainman on Dec 13, 2010 | Reply

Webb is bananas. I’d love to see this guy get four quarters – Just to see what he does.

  57. By PurpleParody on Dec 13, 2010 | Reply

I think Kevin Williams was looking like a monster today, but Pat is looking too old to keep around. I know he wants to play another few years, but I agree that his skills are only headed downwards.

I think that the o-line needs a stern looking into as well. When the starters are healthy they give a b-class performance at best. If we intend to start rebuilding, that’s where we need to look the most.

  65. By DRS on Dec 13, 2010 | Reply

We need to fix the entire team. Above all we need a QB from the free agency who has a winning knowledge. One with three to four years left on him, and then we need to get some great O-Lineman from the collages. Look for a mix of drafting and free agency for the entire defense. Maybe get some receivers that can play for the entire year.

I’m listening to Favre right now, and they asked him if he’ll play again. He more or less gave a wait-or-see approach, but I think he’s done. If he does play again, he should wait until the Lions game and make it his very last game he’ll ever play, not against the freaking Bills.

Fred – I’m not exactly a TJack fan, but your Peyton Manning comment was out of context. That guy can pass without a running game because he has the time to grow a 5-o-clock shadow every time he sets back to pass. Meanwhile, whoever our QB is always needs to throw the ball the second they get it secured in their hands, or they’ll be overwhelmed by defenders. The o-line was blocking worse today than I’ve seen in a while, and receivers were having a ton of trouble getting open on most plays.

purpleparody, you do have a good point. although the one thing I’ve been hearing from Favre haters this year is that Tjack would have been able to avoid sacks better than Favre b/c he’s more mobile. the o-line has been terrible this year and it was true tonight. I don’t see how having Tjack all this season would have made this team any better or how they would have won more games.

PurpleParody I was a fan of the Vikings when Fran T was playing and even Fran was a QB who played for another team. I agree that we need a QB in the draft but we need someone who can show this new QB the ropes in the NFL. We need a QB with NFL knowledge to work with this new QB to bring him up to speed in a year or so, and at the same time to be able to win games. The main trouble with this team is the lineman on both side of the ball, and receivers that cannot keep the ball.

Need to seriously look at O-line,before calling out the QB. No QB would have suceeded after 2 qtrs of being crashed on by defensive line and you dont have running game to keep them honest. Blaming the QB is Norm though. Brett knew this would happen to him also. The difference he would have not been able to substain the beating. BF did not want to play the Giants and he wont be available for the Philli game I reassure you. Enough of that, we need to give our QB support, because that O-line would get any QB killed, and not establishing a running game is slow death to a QB and that exactly what happened each snap got worse and the defense fed on this.

It was just a sad performance. The defense tried to keep us in it but couldn’t stop the run. They did however stop the pass, INT’s and a sack proved that. It wasn’t good but it wasn’t all bad either.

The offense on the other hand just sucked. I can agree with those that say that TJack didn’t really have a chance but there were plays he could have made and didn’t. There weren’t many but there were enough to definitely make people think he isn’t capable.

The o-line played horrendously and when they did do their jobs TJack missed the reciever or the reciever dropped it. You could tell TJack wanted to get the ball to Rice but it just wasn’t there or the o-line failed.

    Terrible game. Just terrible.

Smiff – I hate to be the bad guy, but when I see something going wrong I want to do anything possible to fix it. The most obvious fix was to bench the old QB who was giving up turnovers and couldn’t move out of the pocket for someone who has a lot of mobility and was showing promise 2 years back. I know there are other problems on the team, but I don’t see a realistic way to fix them. So the mobile QB seems to be the best bandage for what has been killing our offense.

Apparantly he wasn’t mobile enough to survive in today’s game.

LOL @ Fred. I know what you mean cause I actually met Pat in person once. A few years back a buddy and I were down in Mankato for training camp and we just happened to pick the same restaurant that Pat and Kevin were eating at. We approached them to ask for a signature, and they apparantly weren’t all too happy that we were interrupting their meal. They kind of grimmaced at us and said to try back later. Needless to say we sauntered back to our table, but were able to get an autograph as they were leaving the restaurant.

Fred – I’d love to see Joe Webb turn into our starting QB. He’s got franchise implications like a young Michael Vick. I’m just worried that there may have been a valid reason that such a gifted athlete fell so low in the draft. If we can put together a team with him at QB then I’d be happy to see two early picks go towards o-linemen, so that he has a chance to turn into somebody great.

Beyond that, I’d like to see the defense add somebody to the backfield that has a keen eye for the INT. I’d really love to see our team in the positive category for turnover ratio again.

  251. By Ricefield on Dec 14, 2010 | Reply

    Frederick,

The Rams picked up a rookie that is showing a lot promise for rookie and looks like he may become a franchise QB. Granted, its a pretty week division. But the point is it was hoped that TJack would be that kind of prospect and isn’t.

I agree drafting rookie QB’s is a risky business and there are other needs the team needs to address like the o-line but without a decent quarterback no matter what esle we do to improve the team it just won’t be enough.

I admit I haven’t paid much attention to other teams this season but from what I have seen there aren’t any veterans QB’s on the market that we would want.

It is my opinion, that whatever happens it is going to take at least 2 seasons to rebuild this team unless by some miracle we get lucky in the draft.

Sure the Eagles want to keep Kolb. But he’s paid his dues wearing headphones behind McNabb for 3 years, only for Coach Reid to break his word to him after one game and start someone who only came in last season. When it comes to NFL politcs, Kolb learned well from McNabb and played along, but how can he really trust his coach? I believe he may become available after this season and if so, we should get him before Panthers do.

W/ the TALENTED AD and Sydney, and I would have gone after Brandon Marshall or Antonio Bryant from Tampa we would have been set for the length of AD’s career and beyond!!!!! We needed some one to throw or just have the threat of throwing downfield as Guss F proved until Tjoke took over….Everyone was putting 8-9 in a box and now w/ all the film they have on AD they know hhis “weakest links” everyone has them as AD does……Short window to win and win it all as New England proves as they turn their OFFEN. talent over and maintain the most important LINK the QUARTERBACK!!!!!!!!! THEY TRADED Mulroney and upgraded w/ a new back that has very little film to illuminate his weaknesses, they traded Moss to US for a 3rd rounder that will help them upgrade !!!!!!! AD’s talent will only take us to the prpomised landfor sooo long and as I said his weaknesses and just plain old worn out legs get the best of him and our team!!!!!!! The window is closing AD still has a couple G O O D years left but teams are sniffing out his tendancies and what he does well and what he does not do well and they learn how to push him into those scenarios he doe not do well!!!!! This team just STUNK IT up tonite….I was so psyched as the FUDGEPACKERS lost as did the BEARS>>>> WE were still in it to win it until TJOKE could not even throw from a three step drop….Get rid of the ball IDIOT!!!! AS coach SINGLETARY for 49er’s said best BAD QB can’t play w/ it can’t win w/ it JUST can’t do it !!!!Our defense gave us everything except TD’S they were all over ELI and our OFFENSE w/ Tjoke STUNK IT UP!!!!! I watched the game play-by-play on NFL network by internet, then the actual game broadcast. A very poor performance by the offense. The defense played fairly well, except for two big runs totalling 121 yards. I don’t think any QB could have done very well with no running game and a decimated o-line (don’t forget that Herrera is out as well as Hutch). That said, TJ hasn’t shown us that he’s the answer. Joe Webb is very green, but what an athlete he seems to be. I think Favre is done – too bad – he’s the best for a lot of reasons, but most of all for his passion for the game. I don’t know where we go from here – give Webb and TJ more playing time this year, I guess. See what they can do. A positive – Lorenzo Booker! What a run he had bringing back that kickoff. Actually, the special team’s play was very good, now that I think about it. Camarillo had a terrific punt return, as well. Goodnight folks.

Who knows, he may blossom some day but this experiment should end. Let him sign with a team with a great D so he doesnt have to win the game single-handedly. Brett, thank you for your passion and love for the game! You are the Greatest!! I know you care more about winning than any ten guys out there combined. Enjoy your retirement. Where do we go from here? This team has alot of position issues. It’s pretty clear we have a QB issue going forward. We have issues at o-line, d-line, db’s and wide outs. I’ve been thinking about this for awhile now. Harvin, a great young player but do we go forward not knowing if he’s available from week to week because of his migrane problems. Great asset when he plays because he opens offense up but we need him every week. Age has caught up with the Williams wall and it was apparent all year. We have always had average to below average db’s as long as I can remember as a 40 year viking fan. Our wide outs can’t get down field or get seperation for except rice at times. And last the new stadium issue we have and now the roof issue which doesn’t help matters. And oh by the way did anybody see ESPN about 3/4 weeks ago. Yes, Magic Johnson and some high profile investors are interested in bringing a NFL team to LA!!!!!!!!!

I couldn’t get the game out here in hicksville, California, so I didn’t get to view the dismantling. I assume that the QB play wasn’t the greatest… but heck, I coulda told you that before the game started :) I don’t hate Jackson, I actually respect him as a man. He just isn’t going to make it as a starting NFL QB. It’s not his fault he has the job, its the Vikings organization. If they call me up tonight and offer to fly me in to play this weekend and pay me what they are paying him, I’m in. THEN you would see the worlds worst QB :) SO, no I don’t hold a grudge against the man, he’s just making a very good living being subpar at his job. Obviously his bosses think he’s adequate or he wouldn’t still be on the payroll. Boo Vikes.

B-Pro, you bring up a lot of valid points. We don’t need Pro-Bowlers at every position to win games, even the Superbowl. New Orleans did it last year with a mediocre defense. Good quality players at every position is what a team needs, and we don’t have that. If Rice stays healthy, we can get by without Harvin. We are fine at RB, even without Taylor. Our TEs are adequate. Obivously, we need help at O-Line, the foundation for any offense. We need help at QB. We don’t have to have a superstar, but a top 15 rated QB would be nice.

On defense, we are fine at D Line and LB. Yeah, the Williams boys are getting a little slow, but their backups have been coming along nicely. We need help in our DB squad.

The way I see it, next year, we need improvement a QB, 2 offensive lineman, a CB, and a safety to compete for a playoff spot. This is a minimum requirement… an OLT, an ORT, and RG would be great, as well as a S that can catch a ball.

Your Creation(in your mind) T-Jack is not and will never be a very good QB. He may be good one day but good QB’s rarely win Super Bowls. The ones that do ALWAYS have a great defense behind them (I.E Trent Dilfer). IM FROM CHICAGO AND A VIKE FAN. Been for 35 years. My Dad was a Bears fan but respected the Vikes. My first Vikes game with my Dad was when Walter Payton rushed for a single season record of 275 yards. I think the final score was 7-3 Bears. My heart bleeds for the Vikes. T-Jack is not a Doug Williams or D. McNabb. Hes a Charlie Batch or Rodney Peete. Please have some common sense and believe this to be true. That doesnt mean I will ever boo him.I want him to succeed!! My opinion is he will not. I hope I am wrong!! I will not boost if I’m correct. You act like some old Grandma…. with your GO TEAM attitude. I am positive! I’m just not blind, ignorant or oblivious to real talent. You remind me of my Grandma (God rest her soul). She was born in 1900 passed in 2000. She thought every African American player on the Cubs was Andre Dawson. If you are not there yet then you are awfully close.

Dawn Wisconsin: I too admired Favre as a Packer and last season was my personal favorite year to be a Viking fan. I don’t want to get rid of viewpoints that have experience and background. Frederick Jones has coached high school teams to the state playoffs for 11 or 12 years in a row. If you ask a genuine football question, he’s been very good about sharing the philosophy behind the scheme. I too, have a better respect for Favre from having read your comments tonight. I tire of people who make statements that are unrealistic. I tire of people who are down on everything. Favre stinks, the team is going to LA, my girl won’t give me no love..etc. They probably never played football. They probably don’t look at the efforts the ownership has made to get us to a Super Bowl. They probably haven’t noticed the injury report and said, “Man, that would hurt like h@!! I couldn’t play with that injury.”

TJack haters look at what he’s been up against. 1. His coach compared him once to Donovan McNabb, when McNabb was at his peak. 2. He’s had the starting job put in front of him, and pulled out from under him due to injury and acquisition of other QB’s. 3. Even when he’s played good games, people have criticized him to death. Quality pro quarterbacks need unwavering support from their coaches when knuckleheads are spilling P.B.R. all over themselves and booing. He had absolutely no line protection to speak of last night. I’m not saying the guy is the next Elway or Montana, but he still can be a quarterback in this league. I think for his own good, he needs a fresh start elsewhere.

Yea, I think the TJ Haters are over doing it. Maybe because they dont want to be reminded of the flop season BF has taken the team. 3-7 for a HOF and 1-1 for TJ who played a playoff contenter in the last Qtr of Football. The media is just as bad. Today on the Radio “I believe it’s called the Heard” He stated these exact words ” Tavaris Jackson is not the answer, the Vikings are such a talented team that they are just one QB away to winning a SB?” Havent we heard this for two years with BF? I just don’t get it. “If Brett had of played yesterday, NY Giants would of helped him into immediate retirement. Bret knew this. And dont expect him to play in the Philly game either. Brett been building up a injury chart since he knew the chances of going into the playoffs were very very slim. He has never said he’s retiring. In the meantime TJ has been thrown back into the Lions Den again. The man’s been on the bench for 2 years and expectations and Judgements are unfair from fans and the media. But it’s cool, it will backfire. People are ignoring that BF blew playoffs hopes in the first half of the season, but crucify one who has played two games. It’s madness.

Favre comes off the bench to lead the Vikings over the Bears, and all of Packer Nation is cheering for the man they didn’t have enough CLASS to thank for all the memories in his last trip to Lambeau field. How’s this for IRONY? B.S.
