Vikings-Giants Game Moved To Monday In Detroit

Posted by Mike Wobschall on December 11, 2010 – 9:41 pm

The NFL has announced that the Giants-Vikings game will take place from Ford Field in Detroit on Monday at 6:20 p.m. CST due to the Metrodome / Mall of America Field’s roof collapsing early on Sunday morning.  More details will be posted soon…

PREVIOUS UPDATES:

Statement from Greg Aiello, NFL Senior Vice President of Public Relations:

We were notified this morning by the Metrodome / Mall of America Field authorities that the dome will not be available for the Giants-Vikings game on Monday or Tuesday. We are currently exploring alternatives to play the game Monday night at the University of Minnesota’s TCF Bank Stadium or another domed NFL stadium. We will continue to provide information as it becomes available.

Stay with vikings.com for more info as it becomes available.

Update: Here is another statement from Aiello:

The Vikings and University of Minnesota have worked cooperatively and diligently on the re-location of the Giants-Vikings game. The university, however, has informed the Vikings that unfortuately its stadium was shut down for winter and would take several days to prepare for an NFL game. We are continuing to explore options at other NFL domed stadiums to play the game Monday night.

This is due to snow on top of the Dome?? Are you joking me with that cop out of an answer?? Oh, suddenly we’ve been teleported to Minneapolis! Oh, suddenly the Dome’s gonna collapse from a blizzard! What a FREAKING (hint, hint) JOKE.

Not everyone lives in the twin cities. How do they expect people to make it a monday night when they are planning on a sunday. Either put it later on sunday or postpone it to the end of the season on a sunday or something. How can a person that lives two hours away make it to a Monday night game when they are expecting a noon game on a sunday, even sunday night would be better. How do we get a refund?????

Sorry Kate, but you won’t be refunded by the Vikings. You’re best option is to sell your tickets to get some of your $$$ back.

    Sorry about your bad luck.

Hey guys guess what? Weather is unpredictable. If the Giants can’t make it, that’s just the way it is. Hopefully there will be refunds offered, that would be the least that could be done. But don’t blame the people who postponed the game, it’s for safety reasons and the fact that the Giants are still stuck in Kansas City.

  13. By Justin on Dec 11, 2010 | Reply

    Get this guys:

We traveled to the Jets back on October 11th and part of the game was postponed for 30 minutes due to lightining in the area. That was a Monday Night game, mind you. Now, the Giants come to Minnesota and the game gets delayed a day due to a snowstorm and now the game is a MONDAY NIGHT GAME!. What’s up with these New York teams this year!?!?!?

    Talk about Ironic…

All Sunday tickets will be honored on Monday night. They’re will be no refund due to weather. This is is posted on all tickets and all points of sale. Stay tuned to the official Vikings website for kickoff time.

This is great news for me. I wasn’t going to make it to the game with the roads all closed. I got a 4 hour drive to make it there.

  16. By tammy on Dec 11, 2010 | Reply

the roads will not be all closed in the a.m. woudl be no problem traveling tomorrow. there is no excuse to postpone it all the way to monday. anytime sunday would be better for most people. yes weather is unpredictable except they were forecasting this storm for the past 4-5 days so the giants definitely could have been here before trying to get her today. there is no excuse. this is suppose to be professional not a high school game.

  17. By PurpleParody on Dec 11, 2010 | Reply

I’d be jumping at the opportunity to help some of you people out and buy your ticket, but I have to give a final presentation on Monday night. As it is I’m probably going to do much poorer on it because I know I’ll just want to be racing off to the TV once it’s finished. I’m with everybody else that there should be no excuse that the team cannot clear off the snow and still hold the game Sunday night. This blizzard was expected all week, so there is no excuse for why they were not prepared to fix the problem quickly.

Snow on top of the dome a hazard or the Giants didn’t want to travel in the morning? It’s Minnesota and we are used to snow and how to take care of these situations, but I guess other teams complain about unfair travel and inadequate prep time so they get to re-schedule. Would we still play if we had an outdoor stadium, i think so!!!

  22. By JoeGSD on Dec 11, 2010 | Reply

The weather is unpredictable, but we looked at it and said, hey we should leave a day early. The Giants couldn’t? They could at least start the game at 3-4 on Monday so we could consider staying? No wait, the NFL will have to wait until primetime so the snow on the top of the dome can melt.

  33. By kshockey on Dec 11, 2010 | Reply

@Brennan – the Giants are NOT in MN. If you would read the dozens of articles, blogs and posts, they left NY waaayyyy too late (should have left on
Friday, the storm has been forecast since early in the week. Duh.) and could not land in MN because of the weather. They are in KC, and will not arrive in MN until at least 9 am Sunday. Maybe. Anyway, he official reason stated by the NFL was concern over the amount of snow on the roof, which is held up only by air pressure.

  35. By JoeGSD on Dec 11, 2010 | Reply

That was sarcasm Wisconsin :) Exactly my point…its going to be up there until May so don’t play lip service that its an issue. The issue is, the Giants moved their flight up a whole 3 hours {sarcasm again) and got stuck instead of leaving a day ahead of time. To compound matters, the NFL must get all their TV revenue in. They were worried about people traveling to the game, start it earlier in the day for all that were inconvenienced.

To Sean and Kate: Focus on those finals. To Viking and Giant official: Work out an arrangement with Stubhub or the ticket office to refund and resale and help the fanbase out here. Years back the NFL moved a game to a nuetral sites due to forrest fires in California. To sell out the stadium, they issued tickets at a reduced price. I believe the game was in Arizona. Sorry to travelers, but stay safe.

#1 – We traveld 4 hours to be sure we were at the game on time – why couldn’t the Giants be sure they made it on time? It’s their JOB
#2 – All these years, never had problems with snow on the roof of the dome. Could it be we want a new stadium?
#3 – Have been a season ticket holder for years, but I guess I don’t count, because I’m not in the metro area. I could understand the game being postponed to 6:00 Sunday, but this is unfair to anyone who has to travel. Very disappointed in this decision.

  40. By Conner on Dec 11, 2010 | Reply

The Giants should help flip some of the bill for this delay and inconvenience to fans. Word is Favre’s shoulder is fine. He started his snowblower in 1 pull!

I am a season ticket holder and I cannot recall a game ever being postponed. The snow on the streets in Minneapolis was horrid last weekend I was really worried about what it would be like tomorrow morning. I would assume they would have to get up on top of the dome to clear it off due to the sub zero temps tomorrow. Clearing that amount off the dome is going to leave a huge mess around the dome. It’s unfortunate for the people who can’t make it now but it can’t be helped. I for one am excited to have two back to back home Monday night games!! SKOL VIKINGS!

I don’t know if anyone heard the report on ESPN but they reported the Metrodome roof had a leak in it over the playing field. It’s inconvienent, it stinks, but if safety is involved, you know that’s what is going to be important for both fans and players. I’ll be there Monday, or whenever they play the game. Sorry for those who can’t make it. I feel for you. I HATE missing ANY game!.

The dome has caved in before. Yes, it is freezing outside, but heat from the inside, with so many people on the in the dome, causes snow to melt on the outside – common sense. This is not bad for the Vikings, Farve has an extra day of rehab.

A lot of fans reserve motel rooms, eat 2 or 3 meals in the metro area, buy a tank of gas, and possibly shop a little bit. They are out a lot of money due to this change. Lmao! Good Grief, I can understand the disappointment a lot of people are feeling because of traveling, and looking forward to the game, but come on people I heard Minneapolis got like 20 inches of snow! I can see why they are concerned with safety issues with the roof! There also isn’t much the Giants can do when the airport is closed! What is the difference if they play Sunday night or Monday night? If you’re a die hard Vikes fan, you’ll find and do anything possible to make it to the game regardless the day or time their playing! Like someone else stated earlier, this is Minnesota people, and we are known for our winters! At this point the main concern is that everyone is safe and arrives safely! I am just hoping and looking for a vikes win! Go Vikes!

If the problem was that the Giants are stuck in Kansas City, that’s complete BS. It’s only about an 18 hour drive from Kansas City to Minneapolis. These guys should be forced to find themselves a few buses and get here the old school way. If they were to leave 2 hours from now, they’d still have 2 more to unpack and warm up for a noon game, and 7 beyond that if the game were delayed until the normal night kick-off. Plenty of time to get a good long nap worked in before the game.

It’s not anyone fault that the game is cancelled due to snow. It is after-all Minnesota and we can’t predict what the weather will be months in advance. The main reason they are postponing the game an extra day is because we have already received 20+ inches and there may be more by Sunday afternoon. The teflon roof that covers the stadium may not be able to withstand all of the snow, so they need to make sure that all safety is taken before going on with the game. If you don’t know what Minnesota snow is like, and you are traveling here for the first time for a Vikings game, then you will be in for a big surprise.

Ryan – Yea, that’s a laugh! ‘Umm Dr. Smith, can I just come in on Tuesday night and take the same final that everybody else had to take on Monday? It’s an emergency! I have a football game that I want to watch!”

  112. By tammy on Dec 12, 2010 | Reply

ok sure spence. i think not, like i said when has a game ever been postponed. if the giants had got to town when they should there would be a game. i dont care that they postponed it but to change the day altogether is unacceptable. the numbers at the game on monday will tell.

  113. By Spence on Dec 12, 2010 | Reply

how is it unacceptable if their r leaks in the dome? why in the world should they play if there is thousands of pounds of snow ontop of the dome? but i guess you would like to be in the dome if it were to cave in mr “to change the day altogether is unacceptable”

  114. By PurpleParody on Dec 12, 2010 | Reply

Just think what an outdoor game would be like for us this time of year. Windchills are expected to be -20 and worse tomorrow. The hometeam won’t even be able to play well with that!

  115. By PurpleParody on Dec 12, 2010 | Reply

Tammy, I was actually just reading an article that indicated the last game that was postponed just happened to ALSO be an away game for the Giants. They were headed to New Orleans when Katrina came to town. The game was rescheduled one day later as an extra home game for the Giants.

  116. By vikesgirl on Dec 12, 2010 | Reply

What a joke. If they can have the roof cleaned off by Monday night, why can’t they have it cleaned off by Sunday night? It would be best if it just fell in and then the game would be cancelled and they would have to give refunds. I will not hold my breath that they will come through and do a buyback of tickets for people that cannot make it on Sunday. People do have other responsibilities and jobs that they cannot just get off in such short notice.

  117. By PurpleParody on Dec 12, 2010 | Reply

Spence, I don’t know how long it would take to clean off the snow from the dome, but it seems very unreasonable to say it is going to take more than 24 hours, especially when the snow was no surprise to anyone. I’m not sure how long it was snowing in Minneapolis, but it stopped around 2pm in St Cloud, so it shouldn’t have lasted more than an hour or two beyond that in the Cities. Should have left ample time to remove the snow in time for an evening game.

Yes this is Minnesota and it snows. We all know the dome has problems with a lot of snow. So, you would think that Viking management would have contingency plans to play at another location where there is no roof to cave in. Maybe a college field or even a high school field. Oh ya, the name of the game is money, not football and any other venue would mean lost revenue by lots of parties. looking out for their fans is pretty low on Viking managements priority list.

Come to think of it, why isn’t there anything official (besides this blog) posted on this site about the details of what is going on?

Moorevikes, it’s not about marshmallows, although they are good in hot cocoa in weather like this, don’t you agree? It is about perspective. When I am disappointed, I do not dwell in it and roll around like a pig in the mud. The game is postponed to Monday, no amount of griping or venting as you call it will change that– all that venting does is relive the fact of the disappointment– and why? Move on, make the decision you need to, and live. Life is too short to vent. You are a father? You need to teach the next generation to overcome, not wallow in sorrow and the mud of venting. How pathetic of an existence. Man up!

Season ticket holder – first time post. The weather reports vary, but in agreement this storm is in the top 10 worst ever in some 130+ years! In most cases you out of towners got hardly anything compared to us! This storm was a direct hit! Plows were pulled from the roads for much of the day here in Hennepin County! They are just getting back on the road. I am certain the snow and high winds are making for a difficult time cleaning the Dome itself. Not to mention the time it is going to take to clean the roads, the many, many parking lots we all use and sidewalks to get to and from the game! I am really sorry for any and all of you that can’t make the game! It happens to me sometimes when something unforeseen happens in my business or personal life. I usually have good luck sending out an e-mail to my entire address book! I am glad for safety reasons it is being held Monday night! Good luck getting rid of your tickets! I will be happy with any new stadium, not inflated and that has its own parking!! Oh, and good luck getting into town Giants! SKOL!

The Viking should look into moving the the game to Detroit for Monday night, the NFL needs to have the game played with the playoff scenario in play for the Giants still. The NFL should do everything possible to get the game in, even if that includes moving the game elsewhere. Using Ford field makes the most sense, given both locations right now, if there is not an event already schedule there.

  244. By Leif on Dec 12, 2010 | Reply

Listen to all you whiny brats, it is unsafe for the Giants to fly into the TC, and the structure of the Metrodome is not built for all that weight. It sure sucks that you may have been inconvenienced, or even may miss a game, but safety has to be the number one concern for the organization. Get real, grow up. You all are very selfish.

Dave, we got 20 inches not 5-6. If this would have happened in any other NFL City other than the NCF North Cities, it would take them weeks to just clear the snow, not alone fix the roof on a stadium

  248. By BiteSizedTerror on Dec 12, 2010 | Reply

Read through most of the comments and the problem is on a few levels. I agree with the ones that say Monday night is the best option in this scenario because it will be televised in markets when people are home and allows for a better travel window for the opposition. Football isn’t like hockey where they land and 5 hours later they’re playing. That’s not the way NFL players/teams work. I also know that they will have to fly through the mid-atlantic region where this smae storm is heading. Yeah, it’s terrible for those that travel in and “wasted” a weekend (God forbid you enjoy other parts of the cities!) or that have other reasons for not being able to use their tickets, but it is state clearly on tickets and websites that there is a no-refund policy. That’s what ticket-excahnge, e-bay and craigslist are for.

As for the Metrodome issue, I think it is matter of cautiousness. The snow that feel was considered to be extremely dense, possibly over 33% water meaning that 8″ of snow would weight in around 25lbs. That’s heavy! In the wake of a storm that blew through the mid-west last winter and caused the roofs of 3 separate ice areans to collapse in Pittsburgh and the fact that the MEtrodome is a unique structure with a lot of age, it isn’t un-reasonable to shut it down for a day to evaluate the structural load. I’d rather have them make sure that it is safe then throw caution to the wind and have the roof collapse on me…

The Vikings, NFL and Metrodome people are being smart so stop being selfish because you have a final or have to work or because you forget that weather in MN can change in a heartbeat. To the people who say they won’t be dug out by Monday night: you must not be from around there originally. The roads will be open by Monday night if not already…

Well Mike W. just announced the NFL saying game couldn’t be played at Dome Monday or Tuesday. Visanthe does have connection with Man Upstairs because he said comments on Friday, Dec 10. Leslie Frazier is a good man and he talks with Man Upstairs also.
So, let’s face it- with Favre’s tender shoulder and outdoors U of Minn only compounds it(we don’t expect him to be outdoors with that shoulder) -streak is over and time to get T-Jack ready for Giants game. Now, NFL can dole out punishment of whatever number of games related to Sterger debacle. Better to do it now , than making sense of whatever punishment after he ends his nightmare last season.
What’s the alternative?- Brett tries to play, gets hurt and his shoulder is mangled for life and affects him after he’s playing and then by the time Sterger punishment comes- they only are left with censuring him or keeping off first time ballot for Hall of Fame? Surely, even disgruntled Packer fans can’t see the sense of that- all in all Favre’s legacy is more than Sterger’s legacy.

MINNEAPOLIS — Officials in Minneapolis say no one was hurt when the inflatable roof of the Metrodome collapsed overnight.

The roof collapsed under the weight of a snowstorm that dumped 17 inches of snow on the city Saturday. The executive director of the commission that runs the dome, Bill Lester, says a crew that had been clearing snow was pulled off Saturday night due to safety concerns. He says the crew stopped work well before the collapse.

The roof collapse has put the Vikings-Giants game in doubt. It had already been postponed to Monday. Now Lester says it may be moved to the University of Minnesota or to another NFL domed stadium.

Things Happen – It is winter – and planes, buses, and even trains cannot travel. It is not even the end of Sunday yet – I’m sure officals will know something later today – There is more to business than just calling on a phone to have the event at another stadium – contracts need to be assigned and approved – It cant be done in one minute!

Would you people look at the picture??? The freaking roof collapsed from all the snow. It has nothing to do with whether or not the Giants can get to Mpls.. It’s amazing to see how all of the whiners on this site think they are the only people in the world, and because they are the most important people, someone should have stopped the snow, held up the roof until the game was over, and then maybe held their hands while they walked back to the parking lot. And I especially enjoyed the comments about Favre getting some extra time to get healed up. If he can control the weather, I bet he could find another job that pays at least as well as the Vikings. I’m a little disappointed that no one mentioned the obvious….The Vikings intentionally collapsed the roof the bolster their contention that they need a new stadium:-) Come on, guys…this is Minnesota in December and snow happens!!!!!

You mean, if the Vikings have sold out every game since 1987, and the Gophers have never sold out a game, and the Vikings create 100 times the revenue, and have 1000 times the fanbase, and actually win some games- they should’ve got the new stadium? That’s crazy talk!

  338. By Dave V on Dec 12, 2010 | Reply

It says nothing on the ticket about a location switch. It only covers itself for a date and time change. I just read my ticket. Also, I remember when the wildfires moved a chargers/dolphins game to Sun Devil Stadium and everyone got in for free. so i doubt our tickets are even valid anymore. Some B-day present, better get my money back. Time for a new stadium or send them to LA where people will actually fork over some cash.

Seriously people….the game had to be moved due to a tear in the dome. there is a pile of snow on the field right now. Watch NFL network or search it out. They showed shots from the inside of the dome. Sorry about your tickets…I really am. Sell them to someone that can go to the game in Detroit. Let’s all hope it can get fixed for next week. This should actually help the cause for a new stadium.

  341. By kcgreg on Dec 12, 2010 | Reply

I agree with most of you that this has been handled horribly. If I lost $50-100+ on tickets and even more from travel I would be furious, and it appears that the Vikings and NFL made their decision based solely on television and not the fans. It is a bad situation no matter what, but playing anywhere but the Metrodome was going to create many problems. Even playing in TCF Bank Stadium would not have worked well because of the reduced capacity and playing outdoors in very cold weather. How could they have found everyone equivalent tickets with no notice? Simply, they cannot. The best thing that they could have done is work around the clock to get the Metrodome back up on Monday or Tuesday. That would have inconvenienced the fewest people.

If southwest sends out vouchers, i’m glad to go to detroit! what an experience! if they don’t, hopefully the roof collapsing is grounds for ticket recall, or i will withdraw my season tickets. okay maybe not, but i will go ape on them. as for tcf it wouldn’t work cause it is winterized and would take days to be able to set up.

also, cameras and logistics is super important none of which tcf has which is why it needs to be an nfl stadium.. hence ford field. destiny? maybe…

and as for people saying you should look at weather because you can look ahead, pretty sure i bought these season tickets a while ago, and if weathermen are wrong the day of, i’m not going to trust their 10 month ahead forecast, what about you? please gain some manners, you’re really rude. i think your name is spence.

I think we can all learn from the dome collapsing NEW STADIUM PLEASE?
however, i would’ve like to have it at tcf on monday night for that old time football, lambough it up in mn right? or maybe it would shut all the people up who say they don’t need a retractable, just an open roof. CRAZY.

Did anybody notice THERE IS NO DOME OR ROOF on the Metrodome anymore? The problem isn’t that there will be leaks. There is snow on the field and damage has been done. Unfortunately a lot of people have made plans to travel to see this game on Sunday afternoon. You’ve spent a lot of money and looked forward to this. It’s not going to happen. I feel bad for all of you. Even if the Vikings organization could go in and clean the snow off the field, and I assume the stands, there are still safety issues. There is no way they could ever have that stadium ready for a Sunday or Monday game for that matter. Blame it on the the Giants for not getting to Minnesota before the blizzard. With the amount of snow, the dome would have collapsed if they had left right after their last game and showered in Minnesota. Blame it on Brett Favre. You’ve blamed everything else on him, never mind that the defense finally woke up and decided to play.
It’s too bad that the Viking organization might have been looking out for the safety of the fans. No, that couldn’t be it. They just want to make “the fans” a little more miserable.

  368. By drtroppo on Dec 12, 2010 | Reply

The Vikings absolutely should refund the tickets for this game. The fact that is has to be played in Detroit makes it impossible for the vast majority of ticket holders to attend the game. To think that we could try to sell them to people in another state, who are fans of another NFL team, is absurd.
I understand that the collapse of the roof was beyond the control of the Vikings, but that is what insurance is for. If they didn’t buy a policy to cover a disaster like this, then that is their problem. Tickets holders should not have to pay for a game that is IMPOSSIBLE to attend and for which it is IMPOSSIBLE to re-sell their tickets.

Besides having intelligence, you have to be willing to use your own identity and be a man of integrity. I would never use the language or content you post— and people know that. Grow a brain.

BSAS – Back off. You’re such a hypocrite. You pretend to be intelligent, but every argument that I see you posting has the opposite effect of its projected intent. If you truly are as intelligent as you claim to be, you would show that you know how to write persuasively.

So does anybody have an idea of when we’ll hear if the Dome will be repaired for the Bears game on the 20th? I have some nice tickets lined up for it, but I don’t want to pay for them until I know that it will be played in MN.

I’m just numb. This is truly disappointing. A new stadium is in order but I understand the reluctance of taxpayers to foot the bill. St. Louis went through it when the Rams came to town and it was hard to swallow. Eventually, they settled on a small tax increase, a major investment from the owners, and taking money from the Lottery proceeds.

A couple of winning seasons had the owners back in the black and all was good for a while.

Another option that other cities have used in an increased tax on cigarettes. As a smoker, I’m against this but usually that doesn’t matter. Voters feel that a cigarette tax isn’t bad because people shouldn’t smoke.

It didn’t work in St. Louis because there are a lot of smokers but the put the bill up to a vote every year till it finally passed but it was after the football stadium was built. It did pay for New Busch Stadium though.

So it’s an option on where the money can come from.

  428. By PurpleParody on Dec 12, 2010 | Reply

THe money can come from a lot of places, but in all fairness (and this is coming from someone who wouldn’t blink an eye to any means that the state uses to get the stadium built) it should be mostly funded by venues that are directly supported from team fans. I.E. team merchandise and sales at sports revenues. But as I indicated earlier, I don’t care how it gets done, just so long as we are able to keep the Vikes in MN.

  429. By Ricefield on Dec 12, 2010 | Reply

I’m with you on that, PurpleParody. MN needs the Vikings! I don’t know if the owners will stay without a new stadium though.

If the Vikings leave it could be years or even a decade before another team comes to the Great White North and that’s just bad.

I read on another web site that the game will be on direct tv’s NFL Sunday Ticket, so if you are out of the Minneapolis area you can catch it either at a bar or sports club with direct tv/Sunday Ticket or at a friend who has direct tv with NFL Sunday Ticket. The Bears are getting beat badly by New England as I type this and Green Bay lost!Keep your fingers crossed Vikings fans for the complex playoff scenario to continue to unfold for the Vikes playoff possibilities. If Chicago loses out and the Vikes win out along with some very likely other scenarios, the playoffs could still magicaly appear.

Why didn’t anyone think of keeping the game at least in the area? They should have moved the game to the Fargo Dome in Fargo ND, it’s a great facility and it would have still been in Vikings country.

I almost would have preferred the game be held at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. A 6 hour drive from the cities. I know the Vikes record on natural grass isn’t the best, but it would have been easier for fans. The Chiefs probably play at home next week and don’t want their field tore up.

Johnnsd: What is the seating capacity of the Fargo dome? They probably have to have a minimum of 50,000 or more seats. They could have moved it to Iowa City’s Kinnick Stadium. 70,000 seats. Wilf’s and Greenway made a donation a couple of years ago to help clean up the field after the floods. FIVE hour trip from the cities.

  461. By Arrow86 on Dec 12, 2010 | Reply

If the game were in Iowa City. They could actually sell more tickets than Ford Field or the dome.

  462. By johnnysd on Dec 12, 2010 | Reply

Anywhere would be better than Detroit. People who make decisions like this need to think about it a little more. The game shoud stay in the area. And the TCF excuse is bogus… They could have turned on the heat and got stuff going by tomorrow night and then re winterize it again. That would have been neat to see the vikes outside in Minnesota.

  463. By Ricefield on Dec 12, 2010 | Reply

I just heard some guy on NBC say that because the Lions are division rivals that the Giants will have lots of “fans” at the game.

Excuse me, but its supposed to be a home game for the Vikings. What happened to homefield advantage?

I realize its better for FOX that the game be in Detroit but that’s not good enough for Viking fans.

Ricefield: I wonder if they want the game played where they already have a production crew in place. I had thought Kansas CIty would have been better, but they probably don’t want their field tore up. Even Iowa City, Iowa has a 70,000 seat stadium. 50,000 seats in Ames, Iowa. At least they will refund for most. Oh, and we’ll all wait for the full report from Nova Scotia Vike upon his triumphant return!

  467. By Arrow86 on Dec 12, 2010 | Reply

Why not play a Tuesday game at TCF. It would have given enough time for the vendors to get things up and running. The field could be prepped. HUGE t.v. share for Fox. Yes, it makes for a short week for the G-men playing next Sunday. But it’s no different than a Thursday game after a Sunday. They could keep the stadium up and running for next Monday night with the Bears. Decisions had to be made in a hurry, but the Bears went down to Champaign for a couple of seasons. What’s the difference. There are enough people looking for work who could be hired as emergency workers to help at the field. A few more families can have a great x-mas.

  468. By Arrow86 on Dec 12, 2010 | Reply

So my question.. I was at the Lions game today, they announced to us that anyone with a stub from todays Lions-Packers game can get in for free with their stub… Anyone with a ticket from the original Vikings game can get in w/ their stub, and they are giving out free general admission tickets in the morning..

So what if all or a good portion of the ppl who bought Lions tickets decide to go to another free game Monday night( a good possibility–free MNF)… and they give away too many free general admission tickets and ppl come from the original vikings game show up.. Are they going to turn ppl down at the gate?

Yeah, the wife had to work today but she’s in bed now. I’m glad the game is being aired in Duluth because that means we can watch it tonight (just turned midnight). I was a little worried about it because of all the rumors about Minneapolis Area only.

It’s like that everywhere, man. What I don’t like is when the boards gets divided in two like the Favre and TJack controversy.

It isn’t too bad when people just disagree but always some takes a really hard line and people respond just as harshly and then all semblance of civility takes a flying leap.

  490. By Arrow86 on Dec 13, 2010 | Reply

Yeah, it does sound like Favre believes he will not be playing tomorrow. He (Favre) texted Mariucci and said it still feels awful. The TJack thing is, most of us are okay with TJack. Some doctors have said that Favre’s injury is usually a minimum of 3 weeks.

  491. By Arrow86 on Dec 13, 2010 | Reply

This team plays well when there is no controversy. Frazier’s communication skills really pacify the media and keep the knuckleheads from all the second guessing.

  492. By Ricefield on Dec 13, 2010 | Reply

I’m comfortable either way. I mean, it’s the defense that has to do the job. Favre and TJack have both proven to be capable leaders of the offense. In my opinion either can lead it but if our defense plays like they did in the last two games then it takes the pressure off. You know?

  493. By Arrow86 on Dec 13, 2010 | Reply

Exactly: Frederick Jones made a quality comment recently that I read. He said words to the effect that if the D-line can get consistent pressure, the coverage can come out of the zone and go man to man more. Let’s hope Allen, Either WIlliams, and Ray-ray can control the line of scrimmage.

Ricefield: It has been fun chatting with you. Unfortunately, I have to teach school tomorrow morning. My students futures don’t weigh too heavily on the outcome of the Vikes and G-men. Hope to hear from you again Monday night.

  495. By Ricefield on Dec 13, 2010 | Reply

Yep, that’s exactly what I’m talking about. When our defense gets consistent penetration, we win. When we don’t we get killed by the run and the pass. The Greenbay game was a prime example of that.

That’s not to say, though that our o-line has to protect the man behind them no matter who he is.

There have been games this year when our defense played superbly but the o-line kept collapsing and we lost low scoring games. That shouldn’t happen.
