Lots Of Lineup Changes For Vikings

Posted by Mike Wobschall on December 5, 2010 – 10:43 am

The good news is that RB Adrian Peterson will be able to play today after battling an ankle injury all week. The bad news is DE Ray Edwards (ankle), WR Percy Harvin (illness) and LG Steve Hutchinson (thumb) will not be able to play after battling their injuries/ailments this week. As a result, the Vikings have tweaked their lineup significantly and we’ll break it down right here.

Harvin is not the only WR inactive for the Vikings today – Hank Baskett and Greg Lewis are also inactive. That leaves Bernard Berrian and Sidney Rice as the starters, with Greg Camarillo as the top reserve. Also, QB Joe Webb was not listed as the emergency QB, which means he’s on the active 45-man roster and could jump in at WR. That would be fun to watch. Where else might Webb be able to play today? Perhaps some snaps as a wildcat QB? Kick returner?

The Vikings top reserve offensive lineman is Ryan Cook, but he’s already in the lineup replacing Anthony Herrera, who was placed on Injured Reserve. So filling in for Hutchinson on the left side will be rookie Chris  DeGeare, whom the Vikings selected in the 5th round of last April’s draft. DeGeare has been inactive for the Vikings this season and has been battling an ankle injury, but he’s the next man up and we’ll get a good gauge at where he’s at in his first-year NFL development.

Brian Robison will start in place of Ray Edwards today, but also watch for Everson Griffen to get more time in the defensive line rotation.

This is just the 2nd game Harvin has missed in his career, with the first being last year’s home game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

  12. By PurpleParody on Dec 5, 2010 | Reply

Okay, downside is that TJack could have done that set better, but the upside is that Favre would have done it worse.

  13. By Rocksalt on Dec 5, 2010 | Reply

Once again our offense cannot put together a drive……….

  14. By Rocksalt on Dec 5, 2010 | Reply

Yeah, I agree…..Favre is not helping win games with his ints……

  15. By PurpleParody on Dec 5, 2010 | Reply

Rocky – the offense is beat to hèll. Harvin’s out, Peterson is sore, Questions still about Rice, and we’re missing 2 linemen…

give them time though. I trust these guys can still win at home.

  45. By PurpleParody on Dec 5, 2010 | Reply

And now Poindexter lost 90% function in his wrist….think that’s enough to finalize the retirement?

LIKE I SAID LAST NIGHT …………….THEY ARE NOT MEN AND THEY DON’T KNOW FOOTBALL !

OUR O-LINE HAS NOT BLOCKED ALL SEASON ……..BUT YET WE HAVE THOSE TYPES….ALL SEASON…..ON BRETT’S JOCK……WHEN WE HAD A MOBILE QB ON THE SIDELINES!

NOW WHAT SENSE DOES THAT MAKE?

SHOULD HAVE HAD BRETT KNOCKED OUT AROUND THE THIRD GAME….WE WOULD BE IN THE HUNT RIGHT NOW………….!!!!!!

AM I RIGHT OR OR AM I RIGHT!

I don’t care what anybody else says. I like what I’m seeing out of Jackson. He sits back and looks for the pass first. WHen the pocket breaks down and there are 15 yards of open field in front of him, HE TAKES IT! Seems like he’s found his groove now.

  59. By Frederick Jones on Dec 5, 2010 | Reply

DeGeare must be a pretty decent run blocker, both of ADs TDs were over the middle. He didn’t get touched until the 1 yard line in the last one, which was right over left guard!!!

Are we all clear now on what has been holding us back all year? They’re both gone this game.

    #1 – Childress
    #2 – Favre

(It helps to have Sidney at full throttle now too!)

  66. By Rocksalt on Dec 5, 2010 | Reply

definitely not having Poindexter seems to have helped us

  67. By Conner on Dec 5, 2010 | Reply

Old School: Frederick Jones has been a fan of TJack in recent posts. I didn’t see much of the game, I did see TJack throw a horrible interception at the end of the 3rd quarter. Poor mechanics. I saw he had 2 TD’s to Rice, and 3 picks, 1 for a touchdown. TJack is a good player, when he gets in trouble is when he uses poor mechanics. Playoff game jumping in the air to throw a pick. Throwing off of his back foot. TJACK could have really made a convincing argument for him to start, had he just managed the game. Up 31-7, you don’t throw off your back foot into double coverage. Frazier doesn’t need a QB controversy while trying to get some positive momentum going. The good news is with the big lead, he was able to play Albert Young, Gerhart and it sound DeGeare played well. Greenway and Leber on special teams was a good move.

Could have beens, the Bills are 2-9. We have played one of the toughest schedules this season. A lot of big games on the road. New Orleans, NY Jets, New England Patriots, Chicago and GB all on the road. We’ve had a ton of injuries. Whether we make the playoffs or not, as long as we play good football down the stretch and develop consistency, I’ll be happy.

  69. By DRS on Dec 5, 2010 | Reply

Old School no QB could have done well under Childress this year. The team was not consolidated. Too many good players traded for what? I do agree that Farve should stay on the side line to back up whatever QB should be ready for the last remaining games. The way the Vikings O-Line plays you never know when the next injury will happen. Did I hear Webb has an injury?
