Favre Leaves With Shoulder Injury

Posted by Ryan Cardinal on December 5, 2010 – 12:19 pm

Vikings QB Brett Favre left Sunday’s game vs. the Bills with an apparent hand injury after being sacked on the first drive of the game.  Favre was hit while throwing a pass that was intercepted.  Television cameras showed Favre having his hand examined on the sideline.

Click here to view video of the hit / play that Favre left after.

Tarvaris Jackson replaced Favre at QB on the next series.

There has been no update on Favre’s status for the rest of the game at this point.

UPDATE: Favre left with a shoulder injury, and his return is questionable.  He went to the locker room for, presumably, tests / examination on the injury.

UPDATE II: Favre returned to the Viking bench with his helmet on, but there has been no update on a possible return to the field.

UPDATE III: Favre said after the game he suffered a sprained SC joint in his right (throwing) shoulder and that he’s slated to have an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of the injure.  You can watch Favre’s postgame presser here.  Interim Head Coach Leslie Frazier said that if Favre is healthy, he’ll start for the Vikings next Sunday against the Giants.  You can watch Frazier’s postgame presser here.

Everyone who wanted T-Choke to play now what? He just threw a int. Like I said before T-Choke sucks.

  2. By Vikeman1 on Dec 5, 2010 | Reply

Oh my god! he threw an INT? how many has Favre thrown this year as shole? He is cold, let him play a few games before you dump on him. Favre sucks! I hope his arm is broken.

  3. By Vikeman1 on Dec 5, 2010 | Reply

6-8 112 yds 1 td 1 INT Nice numbers for coming off the bench cold. Way better than Favre. Let’s hope TJ plays the rest of the season. Trade Brett for a bag of used jockstraps. Oh wait…that is probably asking too much. Go T-Jack!

I think Joe Webb needs a shot. Jackson sucks. Let the future of the Vikings start playing now.

vikeman1 you truly are an @sshole. you wish his arm is broken? sometimes i think to myslef there alot of dumb vikings fans. and i am a vikings fan. but i wouldnt wish something like that on one of our players.

  9. By kraze k on Dec 5, 2010 | Reply

I would perfer to have Webb in there instead.

  10. By Vikeman1 on Dec 5, 2010 | Reply

That’s right soldier, I hope Brett never plays another game for the Vikes. He has cost us two years and if a broken arm is what it will take to get him off the field then thats what I pray for. I would not wish that on one of our players…Favre is not one of “our” players. He does not belong on this team and never has. Players who show up for training camp every year play for “our” team. Blow mw if you can’t handle the fact the some people do not like Brett Favre.

Brett Favre is a thoroughbred moor (Choctaw), so are T. Jack and Joe Webb. The aboriginal Vikings will dominate!!

Vikeman1, I guess if the Vikings were winning this year like they did last year (with Favre as QB) would you still be showing how stupid you really are by wishing he was hurt?

You guys don’t understand the fact that I don’t care what Favre has done in the past and how tough he is. He is too old! He does not belong on the Vikings…EVER! Look at the numbers TJ is putting up. I don’t care if it is only the Bills. Look at what Favre has done this year. It is over for him. 28 points and it is still the first half! Go T-Jack! Go Vikes! Go home Favre!

  28. By PurpleParody on Dec 5, 2010 | Reply

masmith – why would we be begging for change if things were going right?: The fact is that Favre has been playing horribly ALL YEAR LONG! And Jackson is showing us now that it in fact has been because Favre is so beaten up, because Jackson is looking just fine where Favre couldn’t do anything but run around like a headless chicken.

  29. By Rocksalt on Dec 5, 2010 | Reply

Soldier, you are right. I wish old man Favre well, and I think he can still play….but his INTS(not all his fault) have really hurt this year.
Anyway……Soldier- I am fine. Would be better if we played this way all year……

Just one year ago, Favre lead’s this team to the NFC Championship Game.
I can’t believe the venom on this web site. Someone actually wishes for him to brake his arm??? PATHETIC!!

Sorry to hear about Bret´s injury, and Tavaris Jackson is doing a great job so far.
Go Vikings!!!!!!!!!!!!!, it´s a long way to the post season, but it worth the effort.

  32. By PurpleParody on Dec 5, 2010 | Reply

I can only hope that Favre gets smart enough to realize that TJack is the better option, and stops insisting on being the starter with all of his injuries. Nobody else has even played as many games as Favre. He should feel luckier than Hèll that he has lasted this long, but if he truly wants his team to win he should do whatever it takes to make that happen. And it is too clear now that what it is going to take is the ultimate sacrifice – stepping off the field!

PELASEEEE keep the medal to the medal- the bills were down 28-7 in the 3rd quater and found a way to win by 18 points! pleaseeeeee FINISH this game

Brett has always been nothing but a class act. Let’s see if he can continue that class by passing the reigns with pride.

  35. By kraze k on Dec 5, 2010 | Reply

The only reason why Favre has not been doing this good this year is because of the bad offensive line due to Chilli. I will admitt that T- Choke is doing better or improved but I still think he sucks but that is my opinion.

  36. By kraze k on Dec 5, 2010 | Reply

Lets just see if T-Choke can keep it up. Although he is not the official answer to the Vikings next year.

  37. By vikinggirl55 on Dec 5, 2010 | Reply

Favre was pure magic last year, and this Vikings fan will always be grateful for that great ride. I don’t wish broken bones or other injuries on anyone on any team. That is just wrong.

Blame Favre if you want, but he’s shown incredible toughness and class; he’s definitely a part of “our” team.

  38. By kraze k on Dec 5, 2010 | Reply

I agree vikinggirl it was a great season last year one that we should have been at the SB if it wasn’t for cheap shots by the dirty-ain’ts. That is pure wrong to wish any type of injury for one of the Vikings. Everyone on that team is part of the team.

  39. By DRS on Dec 5, 2010 | Reply

Brett should announce his retirement. That he is going to remain as a backup coach for the QB’s. Why should he stay in and get all beaten up. Let the younger player play and take the lumps. If the Vikings should by some miracle get to the SB and win, he would still get the SB ring.

  40. By DRS on Dec 5, 2010 | Reply

Brett get well. Enjoy your upcoming retirement. I believe Brett when he says he will not return next year and I wish him the best. I appreciate all he has done for this team and the NFL. Go Vikings!

I’ll admit TJack is playing well, but he hasn’t done anything special. Those 2 td p@sses s#cked, and Rice bailed him out. But if Tjack continues to play well and we win this game, I can’t see Frazier going back to Favre. I don’t believe Favre should announce his retirement just yet, though. Maybe let TJack play another game and see what happens.

  46. By Emac on Dec 5, 2010 | Reply

TJ threw 2 touchdowns with 3 ints playing a bad bills team ; favre threw no ints last week so I say Vikings should start favre ,but the biggest problem the Vikings face is their terrible O-line who cant protect their QB if it is favre or TJ, but favre should start he is the best quarter back alive .

  47. By danny on Dec 5, 2010 | Reply

i think jackson gives us a better chance then favre. Jackson plays like he wants to WIN he is way better then moving around then farve is he can buy us more time in the pocket and make good throws he just need more reps and he should be fine . plus minniesota vikings need to think about the furture and need to see what jackson has before looking for another qb. FARVE IS DONE.

  48. By mossforlife on Dec 5, 2010 | Reply

Enjoy the win, and stop trying to down the backup QB who’s been a Viking from day 1. 38-14 is all that matters and who was Captain of the Ship. Mission Accomplished. And yes, wer’e out of the playoff hunt because QB adjustments were not made early in the season. Good call Leslie, you chose to win!! — by making the command decision to leave him in and play.

i understand most of your complaints about QB FAVRE, BUT everyone must remember your defense is his protection to get the ball down the field. without protection your qb will sustain injury. if he had the coverage he needs to do his job & not get tackled by the opponents to cripple FAVRE and win the takes a team to play a ballgame in any sports. ONE man does not lose the game for his team. i love to watch FAVRE play football. i am from louisiana, saints fan but also a favre fan. the vikings fans should be proud to have a player with his stamina & love of his team. he is still a fantastic qb for his age. i wish only the best for him & his family.

  50. By mr smiff on Dec 5, 2010 | Reply

Imagine that. A Saints fan has more love for Favre than some Vikings fans. This sucks.

  51. By Vikeman1 on Dec 5, 2010 | Reply

Emac: Favre is the best QB alive? This is what I am talking about people. Pure ignorance. Thanks Danny! First smart comments I have read on here in awhile. Where the heck is purple08 when we need him? lol that guy is hilarious! Gee… Favre throws 3 int’s on a regular basis and nobody complains. The only difference is, we lose when Brett plays.HA!

  52. By ProgRockFan on Dec 5, 2010 | Reply

Brett Favre is the main reason why there has been so much hype and interest generated over the Minnesota Vikings team, especially with fans from outside of the Minnesota area. I’m from Canada, and I watch Vikings games mostly to see Favre. I’m very impressed with him in that he has been able to play for 20 seasons. If he is able to finish this season to the end, then he will have surpassed the 300 games as a starting QB. That is a great milestone in itself. We all know that he’ll be a shoo-in for the Hall of Fame down the road. I believe that Favre should be allowed to finish the season and then retire for good after that. I don’t think he’ll have anything left to prove after that. A great career, indeed, no matter what others may think of him!

  53. By Mike/Wisconsin on Dec 5, 2010 | Reply

Peyton Manning has thrown 11 interceptions in the last 3 games and his brother is 2 behind Brett, Brees is 3 behind Brett and no one says they need to retire, finished or through, go home etc., The Vikings didn’t win this year a 100 reasons and most of them have nothing to do with Brett.

  54. By FloridaFan on Dec 5, 2010 | Reply

Jackson threw 3 interceptions. the difference today is the defense stepped up and except for the pick 6 didn’t allow any points off the turnovers. they also got 5 turnovers. had the defense played like this all year the vikes would be leading the nfc north. turnovers are going to happen, iwhen they do doesn’t mean you let the other team score. TJ had some good throws and some bad ones. He looked better then in the past but if the defense doesn’t come up with all those turnovers, the vikes don’t win. Sidney bailed him out of a couple of bad throws with a couple of amazing catches. he fights for the ball on every play. If I were the vikes I’d sign sid to a long term contact tonight.

For all of those people dissing Jackson out there, I have a question for you: Who is going to be our QB next year? Favre is toast, burnt toast while Webb doesn’t know the system as well as Jackson. Jackson needs to be given the rest of the season to prove himself to the organization he is our QB. This needs to be done now seeing as though he is a free agent next year. Jackson has never really been given the opportunity to prove himself since joining the Vikings. Also, for those of you in love with Webb, why? How much have you seen him play? Also, Webb looks a lot like what Jackson looked like when he joined the team, a prospect with a lot of potential but needing a lot of development. Give Jackson a chance to warm up and prove himself by finishing the season out!

  56. By bassnman on Dec 6, 2010 | Reply

T-Jack is a joke and saying Webb can’t be a starter is stupid. If he can’t start, we should have never drafted him. Matt Ryan came out of college, walked on to the field and led the Falcons to the play offs two years ago and is taking them to the Superbowl this year. So there you have it, we missed out on some great QB’s this year for Favre (glad when he’s gone).

It’s time for some new blood, T-Jack is something Childress wanted. If he was so great, why didn’t any teams via for him this year when his contract came up?

  57. By Tee on Dec 6, 2010 | Reply

I am not understanding why the Vikings organization is allowing a diva to hold their franchise hostage. I am not Vikings, but I really respect the way their fans support this team. The people who pay all this money to watch this team play deserve better. It is time to cut your losses. The plan didn’t work. Use this time to evaluate your team for next year. And that bs that brett gives you a better chance to win has gotten old, You have to be blind to see this is all about his records. I find it hard to believe all of these shoulder injuries aren’t bothering. Can someone say pain killers again,.

  58. By Ryan on Dec 7, 2010 | Reply

Jackson or Webb but not stinkin banged up Favre, this is the Giants now and their defense are known to take QB’s out of the game, and Favre is one of them, so start him at ur own risk. Favre has less mobility compared to the other two QB’s.

Wake up and smell the Coffee, this isn’t rocket science. Favre is injured meaning that he can’t play.

T-jac can move in the pocket and get run yardage when needed. If you people havent noticde there isnt many dominate QB’s on teams like there was 10-20 years ago. There are about only 6 really good qb’s out there and Peyton is even having a bad year. Alot of just average Qb’s . T-jac needs playing time. He threw a really good pass to Rice for that score. Id like to see him start the rest of the games. He needes this experience to be our starter next year.
