Submit Your Monday Morning Mailbag Questions

Posted by Mike Wobschall on November 28, 2010 – 7:55 pm

The Vikings got back on the winning track Sunday with a 17-13 victory over the Washington Redskins, snapping a 9-game road losing streak and giving Leslie Frazier a win in his first game as interim head coach. And they did it with Toby Gerhart leading the way, Ryan Cook filling in at RG and a stout defensive performance.

So, there’s a lot to talk about and there should be a lot of questions. Do you have a comment or question? If you do, submit it to the vikings.com Monday Morning Mailbag. First of all I want to congratulate the Vikes on their win today, we looked good on both sides of the ball. I’m curious as to whether or not we have any shot at making the playoffs. I’m pretty sure there is a sliver of a chance, but I’m not certain. That Bears win over the Eagles was huge. The Bears need to start losing ball games so that we can make a run. I want to give props to Tobey for filling in for AD today, great job.

We need to focus one game at a time— the only way there is a sliver of a chance for playoffs is if we win every game. So, best to focus on one game at a time, win one at a time, and that is what we can control. Great to win on the road, hopefully we do win out— it is possible. If we do not make the playoffs, but win out, and Favre looks good— will we bring him back in 2011?

Why haven’t we seen Sidney Rice go deep for a jump ball or a fade route in the corner of the endzone?

Our defense looked different today we were more aggressive getting to the QB but our DB’s other than antoine didn’t look good, do you think its time we let some of the younger guys like tyrell johnson or jamarca sanford step in for madiu williams because he’s not doing anything to help our young corners and I’m not the only one who thinks that. Were over paying him just to make us look bad, other then that i like the new look Vikings we should’ve made the move when we had a chance.

First of all, a huge congrats to Vikes WIN today. Is there any chance to see Joe Webb in the huddle? I think, he sud be given a chance so that he gains some experience for the seasons to come…SKOL VIKES!

When does a win seem like MUCH more than a win? TODAY!!! And I haven’t even seen the game yet, but this is one recorded game that won’t be spoiled by knowing the outcome. Highlights show rollout, bootleg + Favre with a run! Are we back to the basic plays that worked? Thanksgiving for sure!

We look good after the coach exchange, now its time to make a change in the secondary bench madiu williams he’s terrible he’s the reason why our young corners look bad he’s consistently late, takes bad angles, and he can’t tackle most if the big plays we gave up this season happened on the side he’s at I’m tired of our defensive coaches failing to notice his poor play put him on the bench let tyrell get playing time or sanford and watch how much better our DB’s will look.

Coach Frazier commented that when Peterson got hurt they didn’t want to change their game plan, but now that Gerhart has established himself in this game (and we have had a chance to see him in a few other games), what opportunities could he open up for the Vikings that we may not have had before?

Also, if Edwards needs to take a game or two off to recuperate could we see Everson Griffen play a little on his side, or is he exclusive to Allen’s side?

Hopefully we get AP and Edwards back in the game ASAP, it goes without saying that they are great play makers and key members of the team.

what is your opinion on Guion and his ability to collapse the pocket? If Pat Williams were to retire after this year would Guion be the new starter on the D-line?

I liked Toby in the preseason and I like him more today what are the chances that he and Peterson would play on the same snaps more often in the future

I just want to say that the game was great! There was more energy then we had seen in awhile. Everyone seemed up for the game and ready to fight for the win. I wish Frazier had been our coach sooner if this is what our team looks like now. Great win. Keep it up Vikings! It looks like Brett and Frazier are working together. Nice team work! keep winning!

do we really have a chance at playoffs and if so how ?

Congrates on getting your first rod win in what like 6 games. Good job to the coach. So we play at home against the Bills who are holding there own. Is Peterson going to be better Gerhart and Peterson are a good one two punch. Now all we need is to win the next 5 games to make a wild card run. Lets play the rest of the season like we played last year. Lets do it. GOOOOOOOOOOOOO VIKINGS.

I like your idea k’net, Griffin is a beast, a HUGe man among men and leading kick-off team downfield???? That kind of athlete NEEDS to be on field little bit more…. we have had tons of less active talent, this kid looks for real. I would like to see more Letroy Guion too – Pat’s last year is my guess anyway you cut it adn we have couple guys vying… THAT is competition!

MY question: is it okay now to be little politically salty about our questions about Chilly now that the tyramt is not trying to manage the media stream too? Poindexter gives Denny Green competition for the King with no clothes in Minnesota…. like Henry the VIII… “Don’t ask troubling questions…” So can we NOW ask questions about the lunacy that was Brad “Poindexter” Childress?

Do the Vikings still have a chance at the playoffs?? Or Do they get a chance to get a wildcard spot in the playoffs??

  18. By vlad19 on Nov 28, 2010 | Reply

WalkingViking, I am not oversold on Toby as some are… he filled in no more competently than did Chester in years past – little less dynamic, but yes, gritty kid. He doesn’t have NFL vision though and he sees the called seam, maybe, but not the opening holes I notice. But I DO like the set with both he and Peterson in the backfield for TWo weapons and that stupid quick hitter to Tahi or Dugan as lead back in misdirection (NOT a new play and as predictable as anything in their repertoire to be honest on 3rd and 1) can finally die its approrpiate death… Toby with AP would be pretty daunting task to stop, and Toby can block as well as Tahi or Dugan ANYDAY!

Great win by the Vikes! Congrats to Leslie Frazier on his first win.
The Vikes had a couple of 4th and very short situations in the game where I thought they should have gone for it to keep drives alive, but chose to punt. It all worked out in the end,but what is your take on those calls?

.green bay wins 2 more games and we cannot catch them..same with the bears…while a good win it was vs a terrible weaponless wahington offense…their d has been bad also …i love the vikes but they looked like a very average team..

I have a feeling that he favre will return for one more fight and this time he will come back in good physical condition. This year he really wasn’t in good shape and it showed this year. I Just don’t see him ending his career with this bad season. I have a feeling that he will be working out a lot during this off-season and be ready for his last fight next year. The other reason him coming back would be nice is the rookie we are probably going to draft can have a year under favre. SKOL VIKINGS!!!!!!!!!!!

I realize the Vikings did a better job getting some drives going, but still they get stuck in the mud sometimes. I know they ran the ball a lot with some effectiveness, but at times they got too far from the pass. I know about the protection and turnover issues, but the Vikings can’t win all of their remaining games scoring 17 to 21 points. (One things that did change somewhat was the first down passing increased somewhat, which was a pleasant surprise.) In short, will the Vikings get so in love with the run and risk low scoring affairs, or will they pass a little bit more to loosen up the running lanes like Adrian opened up Brett last year?

Don’t worry about it fellas. It’s only Frazier’s first game as HC. As he gets more into it, he’ll find the perfect balance on offense. For now, it’s about rediscovering the run, like Chicago. Let’s look at the positives. We have our first road win in over a year. Favre had better protection than he’d had all season. Gerhart is becoming a very capable RB. The players are responding well to Frazier. Favre took very good care of the ball, and there were no turnovers. And our QB can make plays with his legs if and when he has to. True, there are some things we would all like to see, but for now, let’s just get the fundamentals down pat, and then we can build on that.

A lot of talk has emerged that T-Jack won’t be around next season, that he only has a few fans within the organisation, how much truth is there to this – and if so, are we going into the draft lookig for one of the top QB’s out there with Webb as our only QB?
    cheers

Believing we have a shot at the playoffs is all good in a fantasy world, but lets be realistic…. with the d backs and special teams playing like we are, even if by some miracle we got a wildcard spot, do you really believe we could go anywhere? we should be auditioning for next year. I think we could fire most of the d backs… a kicker that could get it to the endzone would be a plus. One win against a redskin team with as many problems as we have,(and they would have won if the touchdown wasnt called back) doesnt mean a rejuvinated team! I will take the W, but I am not getting set up for another letdown. Go vikes!

  26. By mr smiff on Nov 29, 2010 | Reply

Yeah Jake, I know. Special teams has been one of our biggest letdowns this year. They’ve got to do better. Other than that, in terms of attitude and mindset, this looks like a different team. Besides, it’s about time a little luck went our way.

When will the Vikings look at trading to get Graham Herrel from the packers to be our future Quarterback? FEEL THE POWER!!!

  28. By lisa on Nov 29, 2010 | Reply

I’m pretty sure our kickers can get the ball to the end zone.. What they are doing is compromising the distance with hang time which allows our defenders to get down the field. The kicker is Not the problem, it’s the lack of tackeling that is killing us.

Do you think the Vikings need to sign more players from the defense practice team, Like in the back field? What do you think the key is for winning next week’s game?
