Herrera May Be Lost For Season

Posted by Mike Wobschall on November 21, 2010 – 4:25 pm

Adding injury to insult for the Vikings, starting RG Anthony Herrera may miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.

Vikings Head Coach Brad Childress made this disclosure during his post-game press conference, saying indications are that it’s an ACL injury and it’s possible he’ll be out for the season because of it. Herrera left in the 1st half and was replaced by Ryan Cook.

Childress did say that nothing official has been decided and an MRI will be conducted tomorrow on Herrera’s knee to determine the nature of the injury.

Dawn, I was also a Viking fan in Wisconsin for a year. That wouldn’t be fun long term.

  2. By Frederick Jones on Nov 21, 2010 | Reply

The Las Vegas Vikings? The Los Angeles Vikings? Sacramento Vikings? Anheim Vikings? Maybe they will change the name of the team. I think I would still be a fan no matter where they go.

Herrera!? The whole F*ng team is gone, checked-out, AWOL. Might as well start rebuilding now. Got the rest of this season to use as preseason games for next year. OH! And start with a new coach!

And you should have a field day with me because I wanted the coach to stay. By the time you read this note, I bet he’s fired. Our fans will not give him a chance. It’s similar to the way things were in Dallas a few weeks ago. The last few weeks had to be heck for Wade Phillips. Most people considered him a lame duck coach.

  6. By Frederick Jones on Nov 21, 2010 | Reply

So they fired Wade Phillips because they (like the Vikings) have been spoiled by always having winning teams.

  7. By Frederick Jones on Nov 21, 2010 | Reply

The coach gets too much credit when his team wins, and too much blame when they lose. So much bad is written, and said in the media, very few coaches have a chance to have more than one losing seasons.

    Friday fun fact ….
with Moss 21 points per game
without Moss 12 points per game this includes the 27 we put on the cardinals
so i ask was it in the best interest of the team to release Moss?

4 games with Moss 86 points
    6 games without 72 points

Andy Reid the current Philly coach had a 5-11 and a 6-10 season. I guess “those were the days.”

  10. By Shawn on Nov 21, 2010 | Reply

Personally the only reason Chilly should be fired is because he released Moss, he told everyone when he did that he doesnt care about winning …

  11. By purplerainman on Nov 21, 2010 | Reply

Any Reid’s players had no issue playing for him though they were losing. Brad’s does. It’s a clear recipe for disaster. It starts with Favre’s lack of respect and moves down the ladder. You and Sane just don’t get it.

I think it is time to fire Brad Childress. Its plain and simple, he had one break out season as our head coach and the 10-6 season we just plan got luck to make the playoffs. Get ride of Childress and bring in a new coach and make better decisions in the off season and get some good players. GOOOOOOOOOOO VIKINGS.

  15. By Frederick Jones on Nov 21, 2010 | Reply

Connie Mack of the Philadelphia Athletics had 5 100 win seasons and also ————10 100 loss seasons in MLB.

Mack’s teams won 5 world series, and 9 league pennants. He managed for 50 years for the Philadelphia Athletics of the American League. Yet he also had 10 100 loss seasons as well.

  21. By Frederick Jones on Nov 21, 2010 | Reply

The Vikings were in the top 5 NFL winning franchises before this season, and have had only 7 coaches in 50 years. The more coaches a franchise has to hire, the more losses they tend to have.

  25. By purplerainman on Nov 21, 2010 | Reply

Zygi not firing Chilly at this point would flat out disrespectful to Viking’s fans. I give a sh$t about a “sticktoitofness” mentality. I know the Wilf’s wan to win. The only thing consistent are the losses.

OUR DEFENSE IS LOSING ALL THESE GAMES MORE THAN ANYTHING!!! MORE THAN AN INTERCEPTION BY OUR QB, MORE THAN A FUMBLE BY OUR RB. FOR ANY TEAM TO COME INTO OUR HOUSE AND SCORE 31 POINTS NO MATTER IF WE GIVE THEM THE BALL OR NOT IS UNEXUSEABLE!!! FRAZIER IS NOT AS GOOD AS HE THINKS OR AS GOOD AS ANYONE THINKS!

HE CAN’T EVEN TEACH ONE GUY ON OUR TEAM TO TRY & STRIP THE BALL CREATING A POSITIVE TURNOVER!!!! I SEE OLD GUYS LIKE WOODSON STRIPPING THE BALL AND CREATING A FUMBLE AND THEN I WATCH OUR DEFENSE NEVER, NEVER, TRYING TO STRIP THE BALL!!!

WHAT THE H E L L IS WRONG WITH OUR COACHES? THAT IS WHY WE ARE LOSING! I COULD GO IN THERE AND TELL OUR DEFENSE TO TRY AND STRIP THE BALL EVERY TIME YOU TACKLE THEM AND THEY WOULD LISTEN. SO THEY ARE NOT BEING TOLD THAT. YOU CAN WRAP YOUR ARMS AROUND THE RUNNER AND TRY AND DISLODGE THAT BALL AT THE SAME TIME BUT OUR GUYS NEVER TRY.

WHY FRAZIER? I HAVE BEEN HARPING ABOUT OUR TEAM NEVER TRYING TO STRIP THE BALL AND I NEVER SEE THEM TRY AT ALL!!

WHY??? ARE YOU AGAINST CREATING TURNOVERS?? DO YOU KNOW OUR TURNOVER RATIO AS A TEAM RIGHT NOW?? WE ARE AT THE BOTTOM AND THAT’S ALL ON YOU FRAZIER AND YOU TOO CHILDRESS!!!

Not that big of a deal, the loss of Herrera when he was part of the problem in the first place. Until they can improve the O-line play we can expect the same results, this is why they need to be calling out Pat Morris the O-line coach for the Vikings and maybe ship his butt out town with Childress. There is absolutely no reason that their play shouldn’t have improve by now just another example of yet more bad coaching.

Here is the problem I have with all the Favre bashing— How many people were begging, wishing, crying for Favre all summer, holding their breath for him to return? How many of those same people are now trashing him? I don’t think he wanted to return– he knew he could not repeat that level of play– we wanted him, a lot of the team (not just him) has played poorly– in fact I would argue Favre has at least put a lot of effort into each game— half the mistakes on his ratings are on the offensive line and receivers– give him a break——— it’s like the old adage— be careful what you wish for— everyone wanted him back.

Fred if you watch a game with Moss, people say he takes plays off and its true but if you watch its because even when he just does his lazy jog 2 guys are still on him, so when the play goes to the other side of the field he keeps a safety and a corner out of the play you could say he blocks 2 guys if you want to be positive about Moss

  145. By 12timeworld champs on Nov 21, 2010 | Reply

  146. By Frederick Jones on Nov 21, 2010 | Reply

BSAS is right! Most fans wanted Favre back. Many fans also disliked Childress during last year’s 13-5 run. Yet it seems that most of that disliking was because of what he did the previous 3 years. It’s a little like Palestine and Israel.

  147. By BE SANE & SERIOUS on Nov 21, 2010 | Reply

Yeah, it is very unfortunate Moss is gone— I see both sides, I was appalled by his behavior, but then again, that was not a revelation– we brought him in to win, and he did up the ante— he is always such a big threat that he makes every defense honest– with Rice back, today Moss would have been a great asset— BUT no more could haves, should haves, now it is time to clean house.

Reporters– Coach, did you expect Rodgers to play at this level?
Chilly– Well, you know, he is a tremendous competitor, there is probably not a lot we could have done differently, our guys played hard. We can look at film and see where we might have done one play better, you never know, one play here or there and we would have stopped him.

Reporters -What can you attribute to such a lopsided victory and what changed from when you played the Packers last season?
Chilly–Well, you know Rodgers has improved a lot in his ball release, a great competitor, very knowledgeable about the game. But we had opportunities, we will go and look at film tomorrow. I am sure we will see many places where we could play better.

    Reporters– Is the season over?
Chilly—Well, there is still over a third of the season left, a lot can happen. We will get to the film and start working on corrections the day after tomorrow. I am not going to play out any or all possible scenarios, that is your guys job.
We are just going to stay focused and continue to fine tune some of those areas we could work on.

Reporters– Have you thought of benching Favre, as you know most coaches would probably change quarterbacks based on his performance ratings?
Chilly– Well I am not going to get into conjectures. Favre is a great competitor, I mean look at Rodgers today. I think Rodgers play today is evidence enough that his mentor should play. You guys can play with quarterback ratings, I don’t put a lot of credence into any kind of critical analysis. We will come out next week and play our game plan– we will play Vikings football.

Reporters– Coach, will you be more careful in determining cleat size for next weeks game at Washington?
Chilly– That will be a game time decision.

  182. By NovaScotiaVike on Nov 21, 2010 | Reply

Kathy Kelly you know what your talkin about. Favre should meet the bench. Especially when your down by 28 points and the game is out of reach. I can’t think of a better time to put your back up in and let him get some real-time game experience. And there are still people on this blog saying your wrong girl…can you believe that? Blah, blah, blah, it’s NEVER Brett’s fault (what a joke). On the blog earlier this week one of the viking fans told me I must be toothless cuz that’s all he’s got…resorting to name calling. Now that you’ve let Brett come in and single-handedly ruin your organization like he tried to do to the Packers you can see why Ted Thompson let him go. He just wanted to be a viking cause it was the best way for him to stick it to Ted (twice a year for that matter). Your a smart fan Kathy!

It is hard to win the game when that antique quarterback can’t make an acurate pass, and the play calling is so predictable that a second grader could stop that offense. If we don’t have a new coach next year we will lose next year too. Tony Dungy should come back and lead this team.

Anyway, Brett only has the start record going for him so play him 1 series and tutor Webb the rest of the way and let him get used to what will be his team. What he did in preseason to get people excited shouldn’t be ignored. Jackson will be gone at 1st chance to leave since Chilli used him for practice only to be demoted at Brett’s return. Webb needs the work to get him ready for next year. Look at Josh Freeman and the 7-3 Tampa team! Want some energy back or the same old same old?

The mighty Boa observes a lot of slamming of this Frazier. The defense has sucked this year and actually hasn’t been very good the past couple of years. Yes, they attacked the run well but going back to 2006 or so the secondary was like swiss cheese.

Now this is the guy who is going to be “Head Coach”? God help us. Living in Detroit it is always difficult but the last thing the mighty Boa needs is for the lions to actually finish ahead of us. This is looking like a possible long term dive. Is there any hope in the near future for this team? Meaning like in the next couple of years. The last time the mighty Boa observed Jackson playing he looked just awful. Now he’s going to be the QB for this team? Are they making a conscious effort to steal the basement from the lions or what??

He needs to feel loved and wneatd, and this is his way of looking to get that. Granted, we are barely a playoff team with out him, so we do need him. However, we must accept that he truly is a diva and live with it. My guess is he drops by the Vike’s locker room at halftime of the opener against the Saints, and leads them to victory.
