Vikings Take Rice Off PUP List

Posted by Mike Wobschall on November 20, 2010 – 3:00 pm

A breakout player from the 2009 season is one step closer to helping the Vikings break out of a 1st-half slump in 2010. The Vikings on Saturday took WR Sidney Rice off the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list and have added him to the 53-man roster.

Rice has been on the PUP list since training camp and has been working his way back to action after undergoing hip surgery just before the regular season. He’ll join a WR corps that includes 2009 rookie of the year Percy Harvin and veterans Hank Baskett, Bernard Berrian, Greg Camarillo and Greg Lewis.

While this move does not necessarily mean Rice will play on Sunday – he could be declared as 1 of the 8 inactive players – all indications are that he’ll suit up against Green Bay. ESPN’s Ed Werder reported on Friday that Rice told him he’s set to play this weekend plus Rice has been practicing with the team for a few weeks now and he’s looked increasingly ready to play.

The Vikings did not have to make an accompanying roster move to make room for Rice because they were down to 52 players heading into Saturday.

This is how football is played and to be honest there was no choice but to active and play rice. We lose another game and it’s over. If he survives the game he has another week to recoup and if he gets hurt we are out of it anyway. we need every top player available and trust me if he plays like last yr we can get back in this and win the division. Welcome back rice and good luck.

were going to beat the Tom Cruise Fudge Packers and if we win out we will still control our destiny look at the schedules of the Packers and the Bears they both face the most difficult part of their schedule and they play each other in week 17 so we still have a chance though it is very small it is still a chance. Sidney could be the spark that this team needs but in the end it will be on Favre’s play if we can just keep the ball and eliminate turning it over we can win every game.

As long as Favre is playing this game our chances of winning are close to zero. After this loss, let’s hope we can finally never hear his name again and they will start T-Jack next week.

SIDNEY IS TO OUR OFFENSE & OUR TEAM SPIRIT WHAT SWEETNESS IS TO JUICE! I’VE GOT A VERY GOOD FEELING ABOUT WHAT’S GOING TO HAPPEN TO OUR TEAM NOW.

THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT WE NEED IT TO HAPPEN NOW! NEXT WEEK IS TOO LATE FOR SIDNEY TO “WAKE UP THE TEAM” IN TIME TO SAVE OUR SEASON.

I STILL BELIEVE IN THIS SEASON! THIS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BLOW UP INTO A SPECTACULAR FIREWORKS DISPLAY FOR THE REST OF A VERY SPECIAL SEASON!

Let’s talk Childress replacements to build a championship team. Jim Harbaugh of Stanford. He built a power at an academically strong school. He has developed a young quarterback into a 1st rounder. Rob Ryan: Look what he’s gotten out of the limited talent that is the Browns defense. This is a bit of a stretch, since he has no pro football connections. Paul Rhoads of Iowa State. When his team is behind the offense goes up-tempo and can still run the ball with Minneapolis native Alexander Robinson. He has a low talent pool at this point, but they play hard and bounce back from some serious z$$ whoopin’s to steal a game here or there.

Like Bob Knight says all the time, ” I don’t have a crystal ball so I can predict the future.” The Vikings can beat any team in football on any given Sunday. All I can say is wow! I am the first in a long line to cheer for the “Purple and Gold”, but I still have not taken enough koolaid to think that chilly will be able to out coach anybody. You who think the game will be close are correct. Problem is, chilly will play his “run, run, pass and punt. Brett will forced into throwing into double coverage and get picked again. Curious how many times you posters will watch the tool do the same thing and now you instantly think he will wake up from his fog! The players will do their best to not look silly, but they will follow dipsticks directions and will end up with another tick in the loss column. It will be interesting to see how many ticket holders let them go to the pack because they can not tolerate watching another chilly production……

  178. By Frederick Jones on Nov 21, 2010 | Reply

wipurplehead: You have a right to be upset. However, we cannot blame the poor offensive showing entirely on the head coach. As many people have said, the play callling is a combination of the QB, offensive coordinator, and head coach. I’m sure that position coaches and players also have input.

who cares today with rice back now we see if it was brett favre that was making us have a losing team all season or not today he get’s his WR back let’s just hope that his turnovers don’t do us in again like liast time………we win we still have some hope for the playoff’s if we lose the season is over and favre and the vikings becomes the biggest joke of the nfl in 2010 it’s that simple……………………..

  180. By Frederick Jones on Nov 21, 2010 | Reply

Regarding play calling. Fran Tarkenton’s autobiography stated that when they huddled up, he was not the only one talking in the huddle. The line would have suggestions for plays (usually they want to run the ball), the receivers would have suggestions, and the backs would have suggestions. I’m not suggesting that the current Vikings do it that way, but be aware that there is ALOT more going on with an offense than just the head coach dictating run, run, pass!

  181. By Frederick Jones on Nov 21, 2010 | Reply

I would be surprised if Sidney Rice were 100%. If he is, great, the Vikings would definitely improve. Being at home should help. Bevell said he hoped that “all our fans are there making lots of noise.” The importance of the 12th man cannot be over-emphasized.

fred, you have to be the biggest koolaid drinker on this post. I am glad you are at least not pulling out of the bible today. You thoughts are maybe correct IF…and I say IF, we see chilly take that play card out of his hands!! We would be better off if chilly wore a ball gag and Brett called the game from the field. It won’t happen and I know it. That goofy clown(chilly) will not admit he is over his bald head. He will manage the clock the same as he always does..badly! He will continue to call the same game and in his “presser”….he will throw somebody under the bus to cover his rear! With this being Rice’s first game of the season…how does anybody think he is going to be the ultimate weapon? Let’s see this week how many of our receivers are joking it up on the sidelines after the half? Brett will continue to take his hits and play..but his receiver corps will sit if they “feel bad”.
