Mr. Hippe’s Weather Report

Posted by Mike Wobschall on November 14, 2010 – 11:57 am

The Vikings are on the road and the game will be played outdoors. That means we need Mr. Hippe to check in with his weather report.

Mr. Hippe has indeed checked in and here’s what he had to say…

Temperature at 46 degrees with a windchill that makes it feel like 36. Winds gusting up to 20 mph out of the North.

Bad playcalling again. SHOULD NOT HAVE GONE WITH 3 RUNNING PLAYS IN A ROW!!! After Gerhart got the first down you should have gone with a pass play instead of 2 more running plays!! Then once again a blitz is not picked up and Favre has to throw it away. COME ON CHILDRESS!!!

Moss loss, Favre loss, Tinucci’s loss… What’s next?

  31. By PurpleParody on Nov 14, 2010 | Reply

Another loss by Chilly and his prodigy Favre. Have we had enough yet? Are we ready to look to the future and start trying QBs out for next year, or will Favre go all the way up to Ziggy and tell him that he can’t be put on the bench?

It really doesn’t matter if Chilly remains for the rest of the year or not anymore, and it doesn’t look like Frasier will be any better of a head coach. What is our defense’s record on 3rd down? It has to be the worst, especially on 3rd and long. With any other defense I’d get excited to see a situation of 3rd and 6 or more, but with ours it needs to be at least twice that. Zone coverage with no blitzing has failed us all year long, as a wide receiver is always able to find a hole, and no changes are happening to compensate for these failures.

Next year is going to be a rebuilding year, and it will have to start out with the coaches.

  32. By Frederick Jones on Nov 14, 2010 | Reply

You can blame the coach (AND I’m sure you will), but the Vikings have had some key injuries, and have shown a lack of depth. I’ve said before we may have some superstar players, but we are lacking good specialty team players. Any NFL Qb will burn your defense if he just gets to stand back there surveying the lack of coverage. Of course, it was the offense’s lack of production which hurt us the most. The Vikings could neither pass or run against a non-stawart Bear defense.

  33. By Frederick Jones on Nov 14, 2010 | Reply

To say Frazier is not a good coach because of this loss, is short-sided at best. The Vikings would have lost with Moss. We simply do not have enough football players. Perhaps the Vikings watched the Paul Krause film on tackling before the game. Using your shoulders isn’t enough to get it done, you gotta wrap em’ up!

  34. By PurpleParody on Nov 14, 2010 | Reply

QB is a minor need in next year’s draft. The line on both sides of the ball are hurting as key players are getting too old for the game and we don’t have any respectable youth on the team to replace them. McKinnie does not deserve to be a starter anymore, Sullivan is injured far too often, Loadholt has room to improve if he can learn to move his feet, and the jury is out on Hutchinson and his, but I believe he would be doing a lot better if he had better players next to him. I’m going to guess that Hutch probably has another year or two left as a good Guard.

On the D-Line it seems pretty clear that Pat Williams is too old now, and I don’t think we have a respectable replacement for him, while Jared and Ray Edwards are having way too much difficulty getting to the QB. My best guess here is that playcalling and/or motivation are lacking for the D-Ends, which both can be attributed to coaching. It wouldn’t hrt us to get a big DTackle in the draft, and we might even want to consider switching over to a 3-4 defense next year, trading away a backup lineman for an early draft pick and try to get a safety or corner to help with pass protection.

  35. By Frederick Jones on Nov 14, 2010 | Reply

Wait, we could have won with Moss. All he would have to have done is to play defensive back, wide receiver, and special teams. We have to assume he knows how to tackle a person.

  36. By Canadian Vikes fan on Nov 14, 2010 | Reply

Simply do not have enough football players? Most Pro-Bowlers of any team last year…This is a team loaded with talent everywhere that is playing awful football. If Mike Tomlin had never left they would not be 3-6 and might have won the Superbowl last year with all the talent on this roster

  37. By Frederick Jones on Nov 14, 2010 | Reply

I agree with Purple Parody that some changes need to take place, as I am sure they will. We need to phase out the Paul Krause on tackling video. Krause made the hall of fame because of his interceptions. But in his last two years he couldn’t tackle my grandma. The Vikings were that way in the first half. Also I think we created two all-pro tight ends for Chicago.

  38. By PurpleParody on Nov 14, 2010 | Reply

Fred, I’ve been iffy on Frazier all season. The cover-2 scheme that he uses gets beaten far too often. Other teams have passed up on Frazier as their HC, and I am starting to see why. He is too conservative, especially when the team is losing. When the offense is not producing, the defense needs to step in and try to compensate. 4-men rushing the passer with the rest sitting back and waiting to tackle the receiver after he catches the ball is not enough.

You can see in the players, both offense and defense, that with the exception of a few of them, there is no fire in their play anymore. This fire is something that you can’t expect them all to create on their own, it is something that needs to be lit and fueled by the coaches. So long as the coaches are unable to perform this task, they are the first people that need to be cut moving into next season.

  39. By Frederick Jones on Nov 14, 2010 | Reply

If Mike Tomlin had stayed the Vikings would be 2-7.

  40. By Frederick Jones on Nov 14, 2010 | Reply

Remember Frazier was also the coach last year. Did he suddenly get dumb? Coaches do not have bad seasons the same way players do. The Vikings players caused this loss, not just the coaching staff.

  41. By olddog on Nov 14, 2010 | Reply

Another thought. What coach in their right mind would kick to Hester. He only ran one back 67 yards and another for a bunch also. Better to kick it anywhere but to him. I sure am disapointed in that team like everyone else. I figured them to be much better. I think they must have quit on Chilly. I blame some of it on Favre for not comming into the training camp to get used to the receivers.

  42. By Frederick Jones on Nov 14, 2010 | Reply

Remember Favre did not come to camp last year either. I do think you are right though, it does effect the attitude of the team. Mostly, we just did not tackle today.

THREE PICKS FROM FAVRE!!! FIRST ONE BECAUSE MCKINNEY IS A LOUSY TACKLE AND CANT PLAY CONSISTANT SO THE DEFENDER TIPS THE BALL!!!

    SECOND PICK

IS BECAUSE AP SLIPS AND FALLS DOWN AND ISNT THERE TO CATCH THE BALL (THIS IS WHERE A GOOD HEAD COACH WOULD SAY, HEY MAYBE WE NEED TO PUT ON SOME LONGER CLEATS, THIS ISNT OUR HOME TURF, MAYBE WE BETTER DO THIS BEFORE SOMEONE ELSE FALLS DOWN ON THEIR ROUTE)

    THIRD PICK

SHIANCO SLIPS AND FALLS DOWN MISSES HIS ROUTE. (GEE I THINK THE COACH F U C K E D UP AGAIN!

RECEIVERS DROPPED HALF THE B A L L S THAT WERE THROW TO THEM, PLAYERS NOT WEARING THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT, FAVRE IS THE SECOND MOST HIT QB IN THE LEAGUE BECAUSE OUR PROTECTION DOESNT IMPROVE!!!

Fred – The players are the last people in your list to blame for the wrong cleats. Don’t forget that we saw Chicago players losing their footing too.

I would argue that Favre, (at least after seeing AP fall down) should have known better than to throw behind his receivers, expecting them to be able to adjust their route and catch the ball.

  55. By Frederick Jones on Nov 14, 2010 | Reply

Bruce, we shouldn’t blame everything on the coach. The coaches have to do a good job during the week. I WOULD PROMOTE BEVEL AND TELL HIM THAT I WILL SIGN HIM TO A NEW CONTRACT IF HE WINS 7 OF 8 FINAL GAMES. I WOULD HAVE A TALK WITH FRAZIER AND TELL HIM THAT HE NEEDS TO CRACK DOWN ON THESE GUYS BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT TACKLING WELL ENOUGH AND WHEN 4 DEFENDERS AROUND ONE LONE RECEIVER CAN’T STOP THAT RECEIVER FROM SCORING, THEN FRAZIER MIGHT BE OUT OF A JOB TOO. AND ONCE AGAIN I SAW BEAR PLAYERS GOING FOR STRIPS AND OUR DEFENSE NOT GOING FOR STRIPS! TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!!!!

They may fire the head coach here too. But, it’s definitely not all his fault. When you fire a coach you are saying to the players that it is his fault. That encourages a bad attitude on the part of the players.

  67. By Frederick Jones on Nov 14, 2010 | Reply

Perhaps if I knew the inside story on some of these situations with the Vikings, I would jump on the bandwagon. I am seeing poor tackling, blocking, catching, etc. These are the player’s areas. No head coach controls everything that happens within a franchise. —————————————————————–The Vikings did not fire Les Steckel in the middle of his season as the Vikings Head Coach. According to the Head Strength Coach that season, alot of the things that happened that year were because of players, not the Head Coach. Why do people expect the Head Coach to be God?

  72. By PurpleParody on Nov 14, 2010 | Reply

I just found an article that lists the year that players’ contracts are scheduled through, although it is not current (it states that it was last updated on July 4th, but has players like Moss on the team). It says that we have 16 guys (not including Moss) that are signed until 2011. Of them it is obvoius that Favre and Pat Williams will be retiring, so they are definately players that need to be compensated for next year. I wouldn’t be surprised if we hit free agency once again to find an older QB.

Key players on the list include Sidney Rice, Ray Edwards, Brian Robison, Chad Greenway, Ben Leber, Husain Abdullah (yes I am including him specifically for his performance today), and Ryan Longwell (probably another retiree).

I doubt (and hope) that ownership will let Rice or Greenway get away, and I’d expect them to try to keep either Edwards or Robison. but this leaves our biggest losses at the DLine.

Fred – I understand what you’re trying to get at, but I don’t have any knowledge of the situations that those coaches were in when they had their bad years. I doubt that they had so much proven talent on the team. If I am wrong please tell me, otherwise it seems like you are digging pretty deep to defend the guy who is unable to find ways to win.

On the other side of it, you have coahces like Bellicheck who is constantly finding ways to win with unknown players. If we had a coach like that, wouldn’t you agree that we’d be on top of the division right now?

  76. By Frederick Jones on Nov 14, 2010 | Reply

Let’s say the Vikings were down 20-21 with 5 seconds to play, and the ball on the Lions 8 yard line. A short field goal attempt on 4th down was missed by Ryan Longwell. Was it Longwell’s fault the Vikings lost?

THIS IS WHAT REALLY P I S S E S ME OFF ABOUT THE NFL FOOTBALL RULES!!! QUARTERBACKS ALWAYS GETS CREDITED FOR THE PICKS NO MATTER WHO WAS AT FAULT! AND THESE PICKS WERE DEFINETLY NOT FAVRE’S FAULT. IT WAS LIKE WATCHING HIGH SCHOOL KIDS PLAYING WITH THEIR STREET SHOES ON, NOT PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL PLAYERS. WHEN CHILDRES FIRST SAW ONE OF HIS PLAYERS SLIP ON HIS A S S, THE FIRST THING HE SHOULD HAVE SAID WAS “GUYS, YOU BETTER PUT ON SOME LOMNGER CLEATS, THIS SOD IS WET AND LOOSE” BUT NO ONE DID A D A M N THING AND THEN WHEN WE ARE TRYING A 4TH QUARTER COMEBACK, SHIANCE DOES THE EXACT SAME THING AP DID EALIER IN THE GAME AND FALLS ON HIS A S S!

  81. By PurpleParody on Nov 14, 2010 | Reply

Bruce – it really doesn’t mater much anymore how Favre is throwing picks. The plain fact is that he IS throwing picks FAR TOO OFTEN. You can try to defend every last one of them, but that doesn’t change the fact that they happened, and I would be willing to bet my life against any small pittence you may want to throw into the wager that either of our backups would not be making nearly as many detrimental mistakes for the team. Of course we all know that this bet is completely pointless, as it can neither be proven or enforced, but that is just the extent to which I am certain that Favre is hurting us.

purpleparody, i saw with my own eyes that Mckinney couldnt handle Peppers and Peppers was on top of Favre in ONE SECOND!!! ITS THE HEAD COACHES JOB TO GET HIM HELP IF HE CANT STOP THE DEFENSIVE END FROM COMING THROUGH. SO THAT PICK IS ON MCKINNEY!!!

I SAW WHERE FAVRE THREW THOSE 2 PICKS AND THEY WERE RIGHT ON THE MONEY, THE PROBLEM WAS THAT AP WAS ON HIS A S S AND SO WAS SHIANCO. THERE ARE GOING TO BE DBs NEAR THE AREA AND SO THAT IS WHY YOU HAVE TO BE THERE TO CATCH THE D A M N BALL!

I HAVE SAID WHEN FAVRE MAKES A BAD DECISION IN THE PAST, BUT THESE 3 PICKS WERE NOT BAD DECISIONS, THERE WERE NORMAL PLAYS THEY DO AND FAVRE EXPECTED HIS GUYS TO BE THERE AND THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN EXCEPT THAT THEY WERE WEARING THE WRONG SHOES FOR THE FILED CONDITIONS!!!!

SO DON’T BLAME FAVRE TODAY BUDDY!

  93. By PurpleParody on Nov 14, 2010 | Reply

vikings fan4life – 4 turnovers were committed by Favre. I’d say that he earned a large share of the loss, but Chilly also deserves much of the blame, although probably not quite as much as he has in previous weeks.

  94. By PurpleParody on Nov 14, 2010 | Reply

Fred – What new talent do you see on the field this year? Gerhart was the best addition from last year, and he hasn’t really produced much of anything for the year. He is also still a downgrade from the player that was previously at that position. This is one more proof that I see that Childress has lost his coaching ability.

  95. By Bruce on Nov 14, 2010 | Reply

This is why this game is so upsetting. These were dumb mistake in preparation. if this team was a team that played on grass all the time, we wouldnt be discussing this problem. But the point is that this team wasnt playing on grass. Most the time players don’t want to wear longer cleats because they worry about more of a chance of an injury with longer cleats. But this sod was terrible and was coming up in clumps and Childress whould have MADE HIS PLAYERS change their shoes when he saw them sliiping and falling down and the ball sailing by them into the defenders arms!

I hardly saw the Bears players slip at all, DOESNT THAT SAY ANYTHING TO YOU PEOPLE???

  96. By PurpleParody on Nov 14, 2010 | Reply

Bruce – Favre knew that they didn’t change their shoes and he still threw it behind them. Favre was on that field too, so after 20 years of experience he had a very good idea of how it was going to play and should have adjusted his style accordingly. I’m getting tired of watching the old man make all these mistakes just for the small thrill at the end of games where he just might be able to pull off a win.

I’ll blame him all year for his mistakes, and there is nothing you can do to stop me.

well this is gonna be another sleepless night: and then all week we’re gonna hear how bad the vikes are on espn and other tv shows. it pained me just to go on this website. y cant we just get pressure on any qbs. we r already thin at cb but every game r d-line gets absolutely no pressure. cutler practicly had enough time to go to his 11th option on a given play even though thats impossible. and tomorrow im gonna hear all the ppl in skool clown me tomorrow since our season is basiclly done. going 10-6 is ALMOST out the question.

  113. By PurpleParody on Nov 14, 2010 | Reply

Wow, I’m surprised that it was THIS game that turned you against Chilly. That game where he didn’t challenge a TD, Challenged a clear catch, and called 4 consecutive runs in a row on the 5-yard line (among other mistakes) should have been enough to turn anyone, especially since he cut Moss the day after as well. I was disliking the guy up until that point and thinking that we didn’t stand much of a chance, but when all that happened I couldn’t believe that he was still someone able to keep his job.

  114. By Conner on Nov 14, 2010 | Reply

Bruce can stick to his guns! Favre doesn’t have a chance with the short time he has to get rid of it. The Bears haven’t protected Cutler well all year, and we don’t even touch the guy. Too many guys slipping around on the field. Make adjustments, change your cleats! Right now, as I post, it’s Cowboys 26, Giants 6.

At some point, players need to play! What was supposed to happen today without Berrian, Rice and Harvin (at the end.) Receivers falling on the ground and giving up on plays. Also, you can’t keep moving the TE to the right and sending Adrian that way.

I am disgusted with the lack of D – No way would Frazier get my vote in leu of Chilly.

    Yuck!

  117. By Conner on Nov 14, 2010 | Reply

Bears were worst on 3rd down conversions so far this year. Today 70%! I don’t think Frazier is our answer at the moment either. Cleveland has the talent of a Junior college team and they almost won their 3rd game in a row.

Spence: Hang in there. We all need to think as positive as possible. However, this team hasn’t won a road game in almost a calendar year. We have not won 2 games in a row this season. Today, would have gone a long way toward us thinking about a playoff game. But, it was less than a strong effort from many of our players today. Tony Siragussa was on the sidelines again today and made a comment when the Vikes were ahead “It doesn’t feel like the Vikings are going all out yet.” When will they show some inspired play, we’re over the halfway point and we haven’t see too many consistencies to give us hope.

Frederick Jones: In fairness to Tubby Smith, he’s continued to win 20 games each season. He’s landed the best in-state talent in years (Too bad their off-court issues are horrendous, he’s had to cut them loose.) The Vikes hype machine has made some of our players sound far better than they are. Preseason should have told us something was missing. Yet, Paul Allen and Mike Mayock were gushing over the talent and depth, and what a phenomenal draft the Vikes had. Gerhardt is starting to play. Who else among rookies on this team gets any meaningful game time? We’re old, we’re paying players past their primes. They are underperforming miserably and are trying to deflect the blame on the coaches. The coaches chose all of these guys, so they are to blame as well.

  183. By PAUL M. on Nov 14, 2010 | Reply

HEY YOU, VIKINGS PLAYERS! THIS IS IT! LOADHOLT — McCINNIE — BERRIAN — D-LINE — GET IT TOGETHER!!

OK, OK, I KNOW YOU HATE CHILDRESS ( SO DO WE – THE NOT SO SILENT MAJORITY ), BUT THE BOTTOM LINE THAT YOU HAVE TO UNDERSTAND IS THAT, WHILE IT’S OBVIOUSLY A BUSINESS TO YOU, IT’S NOT A BUSINESS TO US, THE FANS.

YOU PLAYERS KNOW THAT THE PLAYERS COME & GO. THE COACHES COME & GO. EVEN THE OWNERS COME & GO — BUT US, THE VIKINGS FANS?

WELL WE STAY – AND WE STAY FOREVER!

SO I DON’T GIVE A %^#$ ABOUT YOUR FEELINGS ABOUT YOUR CONTRACT, CHILDRESS, BEVEL, OR ANYONE! WHY? BECAUSE I’M A MINNESOTA VIKINGS FAN WHO’S BEEN REPEATEDLY TEASED BY DIVISION TITLES & THE PLAY-OFFS, BUT I HAVEN’T EVEN HAD A SNIFF OF A SUPERBOWL SINCE THE LAST TIME THE POPE LOOKED UP A GIRL’S SKIRT!!

SO I DON’T CARE WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO TO GET IT DONE, BUT I PERSONALLY WANT YOU TO RUN THE TABLE THE REST OF THIS SEASON.

YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY NOW TO START WITH GREEN BAY.

  184. By fire childress on Nov 14, 2010 | Reply

have a bad feeling they won’t fire Chilly. 14 million is alot of money, even for Ziggy. you have to remember, he will be losing alot of money this year, due to declining fan base

  185. By fire childress on Nov 14, 2010 | Reply

sorry, PAUL M-but no table is going to get run with Chilly here

Learning on the TV that our QB is the 2nd most hit QB in the league ws embarrassing. But watching our huys slip and fall on their a s s repeatedly and not catch the ball while the other players played great on the same field was HUMILIATING!!!

Bruce- i was trying to say that i don’t think Wilf will fire Chilly. 14 million is alot of money, even for Ziggy, and a declining fan base. if another team hired Chilly, Ziggy would be off the hook, but you and i both know, Chilly will never get another head coaching job in the NFL

I am starting to think that Mr. Wilf has other plans for this team. Like L.A?… I think I am starting to read between the lines here.

  193. By VAvikefan on Nov 14, 2010 | Reply

We were beatin in all three phases of the game today…offense, defense, and special teams. This was the worst we’ve looked all year. Sad it had to happen in the most important divisional matchup of the year so far but hey, it fits right in with this wasted season. FIRE BRAD!!!!!!! BENCH BRETT!!!!! give TJack a lagitamite chance at being successful. not two games at the beginning of the season! smh

your right purplerainman -if Wilf really cared, Chilly would of been fired by now. i think this maybe be done on purpose to decrease fan base, so it will be easier to move the team

He’s asking to get canned. When asked about the fans calling for his firing, I believe it was: “You deal with it,” and “It’s not something you’re happy to deal with. … My name is behind the Vikings team. It all starts with me.”

Sounds like he is the only one being accountable. lol.

It all starts with the D Line and O Line think it’s time to replace some of those guys that are to beat up and tired now. They have played well for several seasons now but some of them have run out of gas.

  202. By sheaff44 on Nov 14, 2010 | Reply

no matter what is written on this blog; bottom line is get rid of childress asap this man should never of had a contract extension last year especially 3/4 of the way through season!!!!!!!!!!

Here’s the weather forecast for the rest of the season:

Packers – grim with a chance of tornados
@ Redskins – rainy with a chance of heartbreak
@ Bills – A lot of arrows being thrown today, mostly to the guys in purple
@ Giants – Earthquakes likely with no chance of survival
@ Eagles – A bird invasion is likely, with little chance of a Viking survival
Bears – A mauling is likely, totally destroying the Purple Peaple Eaters.
@Lions – A repeat from the previous encounter with the Bears.

  204. By sheaff44 on Nov 14, 2010 | Reply

you can not blame the o line on all the problems brett holds on too the ball longer than most qb’s

  205. By sheaff44 on Nov 14, 2010 | Reply

well maybe we do not need to worry next season the players will probably go on strike and with the league fining everyone with these hits we all may watch 2 hand touch football and we should have brett for another ten years after the strike

  208. By PurpleParody on Nov 14, 2010 | Reply

Bad analogy DBS&S because the captain always goes down with the ship, insinuating that we keep Chilly through the end of the season.

I’m getting real tired of the “off with his head” attitude. All I can do is point out how the stronger franchises stick with their coach longer. The Vikings have only had 7 coaches in 50 years, and we are ranked in the top 5 in NFL history with wins. BUT I gave you most of the statistics. You won’t listen, neither will most owners.

I’m getting real tired of the “OFF WITH HIS HEAD” attitude. They should call this the Vikings Complain Blog.

  211. By Frederick Jones on Nov 14, 2010 | Reply

There was a very successful coach at the U of MN. He was a proven winner, especially at TCU. However he was a totally positive guy. That does not cut it in some places. No coach wins without talent. The Vikings could still finish 8-8 or 9-7 and squeak into the playoffs. I won’t be holding my breath either.
