Nobody’s going to agree with me, but I think Tarvaris Jackson will be a terrific quarterback. Why wouldn’t he be? He just needs experience. His statistics aren’t bad, and I bet he has a winning record as an NFL QB.

I think TJack has good character— I watched him when he went with a child to a school and talk with the kids– seems like a good young man. He does have the talent and the arm– he needs more playing time, but in this league, if you do not perform well, you do not get time–catch 22. It would be nice if we could get a big lead by late in the third quarter and let TJack play some– and give Favre rest. Trouble is, Fred, we cannot afford to lose more than one game –we have to win. You can see Favre still has the magic.

GO VIKINGS TO CHITOWN and begin taking the division. We could be at the top in three weeks.

Lots of people agree with you Fred– remember what you told me yesterday or recently— never let the naysayers and nellys bring me down– same to you. I refuse to live with a whining attitude– I liked how Denny Green said– No room for crybabies. I think he meant on the blog.

  9. By NovaScotiaVike on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

How did that work out for Denny?

  10. By Frederick Jones on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

Be Sane & Serious, I just picked up No Room For Crybabies from the library. I remember clipping an article out of the paper, many years ago, when Denny Green was at Northwestern. He is a tremendously smart person. At this point we do not KNOW that much about Childress. YES, he took some gambles that, in hindsight, look foolish. Bill Belichick does the same. There were big media articles about Belichick for some “foolish” decision he supposedly made. Childress will look good when the Vikings start winning again.

Must have been a lot of crybabies in Zona too!

Sane/Serious I agree with you that T. Jack has to get the opportunity. I thought the guy formerly in Arizona, Leinart, would be a good one. It’s possible he may still be. Apparently, the difference between a mediocre QB, and an adequate NFL qb, is very slight.

  13. By BE SANE & SERIOUS on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

Frederick– thank you for being here as a beacon of light. I mentioned about Belichick on here to the naysayers- there was a call to go for it on 4th down — oh, I remember it was in Indy against the Colts– big game a year or two ago– and they did not convert— everyone was saying how dumb to give Manning the ball in good field position– Belichick is a genius to all the naysayers, but he has done some of the same calls as Chilly.

  14. By NovaScotiaVike on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

Give T-Jack the opportunity…….trade him to Buffalo !

  15. By Frederick Jones on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

I’m betting that you could find players on every NFL team that do not like the head coach!

  16. By BE SANE & SERIOUS on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

I read in an intro to a book I got at the library today that in any given year, fully three-quarters of Americans will not read one single book– that is hard to believe sometimes, but when I am out in public, it seems like it might be true. P.S. reading a blog does not count, if some of you were wondering.

  17. By BE SANE & SERIOUS on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

Of course, Frederick. In fact successful people always have a crowd of naysayers following them. People feel like they are lifted higher by pushing others down— it is a lack of self-esteem and purpose that drives people to belittle others.

  18. By Frederick Jones on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

Thee Only Sane/Serious person, Yes I remember it now. His own former linebacker on ESPN said Belichick should trust his defense, and punt the ball. Did you ever watch a Patriots Presser by Bellichick? The one I watched he said “um or uh” about 100 times. He is not a perfect person either as some seem to think.

And when Green was here, he had many detractors. In fact, alot of what is being said about Childress now, were said about Green then. I remember having many arguments about Green, who they said was only good in evaluating talent. The same is being said about Childress now.

I think the Vikings should beat Chicago on Sunday. Why? Because Favre has such a great attitude. I loved the presser I saw him give, about how it wasn’t up to the head coach, offensive coordinator, and so on. You still had to be a professional and do your job. (or something like that) What a tremendous attitude!

  26. By BE SANE & SERIOUS on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

Exactly Frederick– Green did some of the same blunders as Childress, and I too argued all the time– people kept saying he was horrible– I bet some of these same naysayers on these blogs who now say he was one of the best, wanted his head back around 2001. I won’t say any names. Would be nice to have a fire with the snow coming, err…

  27. By NovaScotiaVike on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

We can only pray that the o-line has that same attitude.

  28. By BE SANE & SERIOUS on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

Absolutely– I recall Favre started that by saying he was playing for “his” job– he was asked if he was playing for chilly’s job. At the end of the day, these are all full grown men being paid far above the average American’s salary and they should be totally committed to giving their all. Favre is awesome– what a leader. And Peterson. And our kickers. The defense will come up big on Sunday. Cutler might have to leave the game.

  29. By BE SANE & SERIOUS on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

Nova– that is key to the whole game. No doubt or Urlacher and Peppers will have a feast of roasted Favre.

I’ve been a Viking fan since the 60’s. Favre is not the only problem but his turnovers and lack of mobility are the biggest ones. Back in 2008 I complained about the play calling (run on 1st down, run on 2nd down, pass on 3rd down) being predictable. Our D needs to be more aggressive and get to their QB like they did toward the end of the last game.

Childress needs to be let go far before Randy Moss. This coach has no control over his team ! There is absolutely no reason this ball club should not be winning games & leading the division ! If the owners had any sense, they’d fire Childress & put Favre on the bench so our backups can grow from hands on play, not by watching.

IP Gal, There is another factor involved. Bud Grant is available for consultation at his office in Winter Park. The owners and general manager have plenty of sense. If there was a quick fix to the Vikings sub-par season, they would certainly make it!

I was as disappointed as anyone when Moss was let go. However, their is no I in a great team sport like football. One person can be come a cancer, especially if they undermine the head coach. The fact that only the Titans were willing to pick up the All-Pro Moss, should be evidence that he can be trouble on a team.

I do think the shanko touchdown should have counted.. but that does not mean the game was given to the packers. It was chilly’s fault not to challenge our TE’s touchdown… and the game would have been played differently if certain calls went different ways. Even if chilly did challenge and win that call.. who is to say the next play the packers wouldn’t have scored anyway? Overall chilly got outcoached that game…. dont you think?

  168. By fire childress on Nov 13, 2010 | Reply

I did see that game and I was routing for you guys to win. I have a huge spot for Brett in my heart for what he gave us… I just can’t help myself to hope he does well…when not playing the packers of course. But honestly I am not ready to say the team is better because of 5 mins of good play after so many games of poor play… its a bit early to say all is well. But I do hope is a good game.. and remember our O-line is hugely improved than last year. Last you you guys CREAMED us up front.. but we are much better now.

  170. By fire childress on Nov 13, 2010 | Reply

Packer Fan, we would be 7-1 with a good coach now, 2 games ahead of the pack

  171. By BE SANE & SERIOUS on Nov 13, 2010 | Reply

Packerfan you do show wisdom– I get tired of hearing people complain about a missed call or opportunity and how that would have allowed a team to win– we have no idea what changes would ensue from different calls and plays. It’s like time travel theories– change one part of the game and everything else changes.
But I do consider we were in your house, a difficult place to play and you won by 4 points while I believe we lost two TDs to the refs — overall I do believe we won that game.

  172. By Packer Fan on Nov 13, 2010 | Reply

  173. By fire childress on Nov 13, 2010 | Reply

apparently you don’t know much about football. even the head ref said he blew the call. you did get outplayed, you even had a touchdown pass that was dropped. that 14 points right there. we win

  174. By fire childress on Nov 13, 2010 | Reply

and we will beat you by more then 4 points to get the playoff tie-breaker the 2nd game

  175. By Packer Fan on Nov 13, 2010 | Reply

Like you say.. the game would have been played much different if certain calls went differently. And I hate situations like this because you never want the outcome to be dictated by questionable referee calls. And thats why I am looking forward to the next game.

Fire Childress… I have been reading the blogs for a few weeks now. I know you are adamint on replacing Childress.. and to be honest I agree with you. But I do not think that coaching will have changed the outcome of all of the losses you guys have. The best and worst part about Brett is he plays every play as a gunslinger. He gives you wins like last week.. and losses like some earlier in the year. But the best part about him..and why I like him so much.. is he takes responsiblity for them.

  176. By BE SANE & SERIOUS on Nov 13, 2010 | Reply

Come on now, Firechild, let’s be nice to our guest. They did win, so he can make that comment– but it is clear the Vikings had no trouble scoring in a hostile, on the road environment in which two TDs were taken away– admitted by the NFL office– bottom line– at our house, the Packers will be demolished– seriously. If I am wrong, I will come on the blog and say the Packers are the new king of the hill.

    Be Sane-
It is obvious to me that your view of yourself is overinflated, and your view of others is mostly condescending.
You proceed to tell Soldier what reality is, when he merely pointed out the logic in my argument agaisnt you.
When I called attention to this, you proceeded to tell soldier not to listen to me because I was employing the classic divide and conquer battle strategy…
You, Be Sane, are a pompous a$$………
You feel complelled to lecture soldier about battle strategies?????
You pretend to have intellectual superiority by constantly making not -so-sublte references to how (in your mind) clever you are.
You call for facts, then you and your hemmorhoid Frederick will spout random scripture which has no factual basis.
You are what I would refer to as a stuffed shirt, dyed in the wool acvademic blow-hard with a naploeon complex.

Good morning fellow Vikings fans. I’m a fan since the Sammie White days. Unfortunately, due to marriage I have spent the last 23 yers in the land Landry and J.R. built. It’s sad to see the similarities our Vikings team is having with the Cowboys. The coach has lost the team…both teams were over rated as no one took into account the aging of key players on the line and an inadequate defensivie backfield. Granted the Vikings DBs are far ahead of the Cowboys but that is a weakness, nonetheless. Also, no one took into account the improvement other teams would make while ours treaded water. Regardless, they have been and will always be my team. Take this season as a blessing…Childress will go and we will have a high draft pick to patch up some of the holes in our vessel. My wish is for a legitimate good, young quarterback. When was the last good one we drafted? Steve Dils? Ouch!

Coach not giving enough leeway to call more of the plays with 20 years on the field between the lines. 3. All of the drama that has been this season. Why come back? What if the Vikings hired a Favre friendly coach. A Gruden or Mariucci, or Frazier with a coordinator that is to Favres liking. Acquire a quality tackle through free agency or draft. The guy from Wake Forrest last year had more against drafting, than drafting, and we still took him. (Demetrius Underwood II). Get a shutdown corner free-agent or physical safety. Flipside, I think enough damage has been done to Tavaris that he would welcome going elsewhere. Tavaris does seem to be a great person and has a ton of athletic ability.

They showed Moss getting off the bus in Miami today wearing a suit. He blended in with other Titan players. Great, what a concept. A strong coach with a successful record and a great player conforms.
