A Few Friday Fun Facts

Posted by Mike Wobschall on November 12, 2010 – 9:52 am

While we’re waiting for head coach Brad Childress to meet with reporters for the final time this week in advance of the Bears game and while we’re also waiting word on the status of Percy Harvin and Sidney Rice, let’s get through some easy reading. Here are a few fun facts for Friday morning…

– The Vikings and Bears will play for the 99th time in their series history on Sunday. The Vikings lead the all-time series with the Bears 52-44-2.

– Minnesota is 4-4 vs. the Bears since Brad Childress took over the team in 2006. The Bears swept the ’06 season. The Vikings bounced back and swept the ’07 series. The two teams split in 2008 and 2009, each winning their home games.

– Former Vikings Head Coach Mike Tice is currently the Bears OL coach.

– Childress is from Aurora, IL, attended college at the University of Illinois and Eastern Illinois, and coached at the University
of Illinois. Vikings DT Fred Evans is from Chicago and attended Morgan Park High. Vikings special teams coordinator Brian Murphy is from Elmwood Park, IL.

– Vikings assistant head coach/defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier played CB for the Bears from 1981-85 and was a starter on their 1985 Super Bowl team.

– The Vikings win last week snapped a 4-game overtime losing streak and improved the team’s record to 17-3 in their last 20 games at Mall of America Field (2008-10).

– The Vikings-Cardinals game was the 3rd straight game in which the Vikings tallied over 400 yards of offense (10/24 at GB – 402, 10/31 at NE – 410, 11/7 vs. ARI -507).

– WR Percy Harvin ranks 2nd in the NFL with 1,228 combined net yards in 2010.

Mike W.-we are not in the mood for these “fun Facts” we are on the brink of elimination only half way through the season. thanks for the great season Chilly !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All I know is if we can’t sack Cutler and/or force him into a few turnovers it’s going to be a long day. The Bear’s O-line is shakey at best so it will be a good oppurtunity to get the front 4 going like they were at the end of the game last week!

firechild, you think Denny Green was a good coach?
Mr. take a knee at halftime in a championship game. Denny sucked as much as Childress.

Fun fact is that the team decided to play for each other and forget about the coach who will throw any player under the bus to keep the illusion that he is a competent coach. Make the necessary adjustments by reducing chilly’s control over the game. I still want to us to beat the dirty bears and smoke the cheese packers at our house after that even if that helps chilly to hang on for the ride.

are you going to keep writing these stupid blogs even after we get knocked out of the playoffs?

  6. By BE SANE & SERIOUS on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

Ozzinator- I had this discussion with firechild last night– he said Green and Grant were our best coaches– so I said if you like Green, you like Childress because they both made similar errors. Actually that game against Atlanta had a bad call before the half as well- the ball was stripped in our end zone and the Falcons scored, otherwise we would have had a big lead at the half. Also, Denny Green was coach at our 2001 NFC championship game in NY — remember? Giants 41, Vikings 0

  7. By fire childress on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

Sane, i said Green was a good coach, not a great coach! he definitely beats chilly

Tom Landry is probably considered a great coach also, but i don’t like the boys

  16. By BE SANE & SERIOUS on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

Let history tell– you might put Childress in that list one day.

  17. By BE SANE & SERIOUS on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

Although Mariucci did not win the big one, he had a lot of success right from the start.

    Seifert, among others

rick, nobody on the nfl network likes the vikings anymore, Chilly killed our season, and possibly the decade. i can see the vikings being the new cellar dwellers for a long time, due to the damage chilly has done.

  21. By arahn on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

Or it’s just paving the way to move the team. It’s easier to move after it’s bottomed-out

I hear ya fire childress, I keep blogin what a hero zigi would be if he would just pull the trigger. Yer right though its like bad dream. BE THE HERO ZIGI!!!!

I can’t wait for the game! This will be a good one.

  25. By Rick on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

Well blow them out, everybodys steppin up,(not chilly) now just start havin some fun and eat this elephant one bite at a time. Brett will probably start doing his butt slappin routine (halarious)

  26. By BE SANE & SERIOUS on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

This is the most important game– if we can blow them out, then we will beat them at home. We will beat the Packers at home, and we already have a game against Detroit– so this IS the season if we want any chance at the division– I agree, Rick, the players will win this– did you guys read where some of the Vikings said they were not going to lay down like Dallas did?

  27. By fire childress on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

even Mike Mayock has jumped ship on the Vikings. the sad part is he used to call some of the games for the Vikings

  28. By BE SANE & SERIOUS on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

    True friends are forever.

  29. By Rick on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

I hear ya Be sane, layin down is not in our character even with being ham strung with chill. Brett will find a way.

  30. By fire childress on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

all it will take is another loss for the players to give up. if we lose this week, this season could be a train wreck

  31. By Robins on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

Thanks for the fun facts, now lets please win!

  32. By Rick on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

A really fun fact would be Chilly getting benched

  33. By BE SANE & SERIOUS on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

Rick, that is funny, but I don’t think Chilly will go anywhere for now. Let’s look forward to winning this game–this is so huge– we will win against the Pack– we could go to Wash with three wins in a row– Wash and Philly on the road are our toughest games left.

  34. By fire childress on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

Green Bay will be our biggest challenge

  35. By fire childress on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

actually, the Giants are the biggest challenge

like i said 7 percent chance of winning out. current Vegas line

U know what Be sane ur right, gotta think about the W’s and move on. It’s gonna be fun can’t wait.

  38. By fire childress on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

yeah, it will be fun, hopefully we win this week, otherwise, most people won’t watch any more games

  39. By Rick on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

fire childress, whats the pay out on 2g’s in vegas

  40. By fire childress on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

    2140 on a 2000 dollar bet

  41. By BE SANE & SERIOUS on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

Yeah, one game at a time. Firechild, on paper GB and the Giants are better teams than Wash and Philly— but the games you mention are at home. Philly and Wash– are both very difficult places to play, especially late in the fall with the cold and possible precipitation. I respectfully disagree with you– we had GB’s number at Lambeau– how much more will we beat them at home? And the Giants usually struggle against us at home– but you may be right on them– they look real good.

  42. By fire childress on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

if the viks lose at least 1 game

  43. By fire childress on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

if you think the vikings win the next 8 games, a 2,000 dollar bet pays out 28,000

  44. By fire childress on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

Sane, the Giants are a totality different team this year compared to last year. they rank in top 5 in both offense and defense

  45. By UBRETT-CHA on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

GO, VIKINGS!!! SKOL!! Can’t wait to kick some bear-butt and expose them for the mediocre team that they are this season. I hope Adrian has a monster day. “O-line” REALLY has to keep it together..they have to have their best game of their lives!!!! Jarod–we need at least 2-sacks from you alone. Bernard–you’ve poven that you CAN catch; just don’t wear those chicken-feet shoes! (not unless ya have another $5k to throw away…) ALL VIKING FANS: PLEASE STOP BITC%^ING ABOUT CHILDRESS ALREADY!!!!! It does NOT help our players. They know what they have to do…..and they WILL do it. SKOL to all. Let’s have an awesome game!!!!

  46. By BE SANE & SERIOUS on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

No, it does not help to constantly complain and nag about Childress– you are right, U-bretthca– I am constantly fighting this negativity. I do NOT deny our coaching has had some horrible, horrible calling– I never deny that. Truth is, it seems many of the players question the head coach– having thousands of fans agreeing in a high pitch, only heightens their own negativity towards Childress. We are not going to get rid of Childress by screaming. Let’s calm down and support the team, the whole team– whether we like the coach or not, he is an integral part of the Vikings.

  47. By purplehaze on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

it’ll be blitzmania against farve; but we have the weapons to contain it if our vike boys step it up like we know they are capable of..

  48. By rocksalt on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

Do not be overly confident! I have heard this “we will blow them out” before, and it has not materialized.
I do hope we will play to our potential……but the Bears will be a lot tougher than AZ………also keep in mind that Green Bay had signiificant injuries when we 1st played them….should we have won? Of course! but that loss had something to do with the officiating…….they desreve credit for wining when everyon wrote them off,,,now they are getting healthier…..
    Bottom Line:
We will have to play MUCH better than we have this season in order to turn things around……..

  49. By rocksalt on Nov 12, 2010 | Reply

    Be Sane-
Whether or not we as fans like the coach is really of no consequence……..the players not liking the coach is another matter entirely…….

The ship has sunk unless they fire childress immediately- his vanilla play calling and choice of players is pathetic. I mean 90% of the time the vikings run on 1st and 2nd down and our secondary is horrible – Fire Childress Wilf – it will be very sad if this is the last season of the Vikings in Minnesota- I mean Wilf doesnt have a stadium deal, and the owners are threatening a lockout next year- and the dome lease is done in 2011- What a pathetic 50th Season- Just Pathetic. And to compare Hank baskett to Randy Moss – Childress needs a head check ahd hopefully a checkout from Minnesota -
