— Harvin is the first Vikings player to reach 1,000 combined net yards in the first 7 games, twice in a career (2009, 2010).
— With his start at New England last week, LB E.J. Henderson became only the 8th LB in Vikings history to play in 100 games.

Typical Vikings fans always being so negative. We should be HAPPY that AP is having another bomb year, Sid the kid will be back soon, and Favre is still alive.
Why Isn’t anyone crying about our offensive and defensive lines getting owned?
Favre has 2 secs to throw and still gets rocked every play meanwhile opposing QB have 6 secs…We will finish 10-6 and be in the playoffs, its very achievable. Chilly is a bad coach I agree but he HAD to let Randy go. It was only gonna get worse with him, he would have ruined Percy too.

  9. By fire childress on Nov 5, 2010 | Reply

Chilly never had to do anything. he did it because he thinks he is some kind of control freak. a good coach has no problems with Moss, a weak coach with low self esteem, but tries to act “the man ” in public has problems with Moss. Chilly lied to the media, and he lies to his own players. he is a 2 faced backstabber

I hope 3-5 is start of good things to come. 2-6 is unacceptable for Vikings fans and it should further prove that we need a heavy coaching makeover. Childress, Bevell, Dunbar, etc… should be really looked at and see which guys are actually getting the job done. I tell you one thing. Childress surely won’t be getting the job done if we lose again Sunday.

4.Im sure Basket will draw double and sometimes triple teams

But Randy used American right to free speech, that is not a Viking right we require players to do and say what they are told, and the food wasnt that bad

So as you see Randy had to go it was in the best interest of ME to waive him

Robot fan– that is funny, but so inaccurate and displays a complete ignorance toward a positive attitude– being positive does not delete cognitive strengths, but rather sharpens one’s skills and increases chances of success. I want my team, the Vikings, to win the Superbowl and I will not, I refuse to be a part of the herd mentality that thinks creeping negative, insulting remarks toward a coach, the head coach mind you, will bid well towards a winning record. Like it or not, life is what you make it, what you perceive and how you approach it is determined by your attitude. Childress is apparently rattled by all your negativity–he threw that red flag on Sunday despite it not worth reviewing because of all the screaming at him about not challenging at Green Bay– IS THERE ANYONE ON HERE THAT WANTS TO WIN? The head coach and the team are not separate entities– you and all the naysayers are undermining the season– I know you have no clue, but there are fans on here that understand the true fabric of reality behind the realm of our sensory existence. Trust me Robot head, being positive does not equate to lack of intelligence.

OFF OF NBC SPORTS.COM; HEY FIRE YUR WISH MIGHT COME TRUE SOONER THAN YOU THINK!

Report: Wilf weighed firing Brad Childress on Monday
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on November 5, 2010 5:17 PM ET
Florio wrote in his 10-pack this morning that Vikings coach Brad Childress could be an ugly home loss to the Cardinals away from losing his job.

It turns out that Childress almost lost his job on Monday night.

ESPN’s Ed Werder reports that Vikings owner Zygi Wilf was so “irate” after hearing that Childress was dumping Randy Moss (without Wilf’s approval) that Wilf delayed Moss’ placement on waivers. Moss wasn’t officially an ex-Viking until Tuesday because Wilf was weighing whether to keep Moss and boot Childress.

Wilf must have made up his mind by Monday night, when the team allowed Childress to release a statement confirming Moss’ release.

Childress has survived this week, but his handling of Moss looks like it will be his undoing as Vikings head coach. Chilly’s lack of communication skills has seemingly infected his relationship with his players, fellow coaches, and his boss.

In fact– usually what is popular is dead wrong. Few find the narrow path and walk in it. SO easy to follow the herd. SO, scary to think for yourself. I know what and why I say what I do– I see a lot of people who look for encouragement from others to help form their thoughts– now that is A TRUE ROBOT.

  68. By NovaScotiaVike on Nov 5, 2010 | Reply

After watching this team for 42 years, I don’t have to “impersonate” anyone. These are by beliefs and I am simply stating them. Above all else ,I am a realist. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, chances are it’s a duck, or in this case, a lame one.

  69. By Frederick Jones on Nov 5, 2010 | Reply

Shawn: The reason we do not get a complete answer in most personnel matters is because they do not want to bad mouth people. If you resigned from your job, the employer cannot legally tell people who call about you, unless you have given them permission. At least that’s the way it’s supposed to happen. —————————————————————————————————————–Besides, the Vikings do not want to stir up more controversy than they already have.

If one does go back and reviews what Ditka, and Parcells have said, many times it has caused them to be fired, or worse. It’s similar to what happened to Denny Green at Arizona. Green is a great coach, and may be back to the NFL. I do not think he can have another anger fit like the one he had though.

Thanx VAviking, by the way robot fan was me and just backing my point of mindless do what we hear society, Brad said best for the team so now i will say it thats mindless , fact it was not in the best interest of the team, and i will never lie and say it was NEVER … truth is truth … and the truth is it was a horrible decision, and if youve listened to me i have not once complained about 2-5, they only point ive been trying to make is as fans we should not just take words and run with them we should look at the whole picture add it up and not back down dont let them tell us what it isnt tell them what it is

Absolutely, xvike– they all scan and read what they think they read– but actually are not having comprehension– I have consistently said I agree 100% with the critique of Childress’ play calling– I have even mentioned specific plays that have cost us several games– they do not get it– you were right to tell me that, so now I have more important matters to attend to.

Did anybody notice Adrian Peterson is leading the NFL in rushing? Man we take that guy for granted. He is the best running back in Vikings history.

  104. By Rick on Nov 5, 2010 | Reply

Did anyone else notice that Brad Childress tries to correct his personal in game decision mistakes the following week. The only problem is that by then the situation is not the exactly the same and calls for a different choice.

For example. Game 1 against the Saints. 4th down 5 + minutes to go. On the Saints side of the 50. He punts and we never get the ball back. So the next week opening drive. 3rd and one foot lose a yard, now 4th and a long one. Go for it vs a Field Goal. On our last drive we get in easy FG range that should have been the win, but we need 4 or 5 points since we passed on the opening FG.

Packers, no review of the Bobbled TD by Quarless on 3rd down. If Childress challanges, overturn and GB kicks a FG. That 4 point swing alone would have allowed us to be tied and on the final drive a Fg would have won it. we made it to the 15. But just like the Miami game we need a Tochdown instead of the 3 points a FG would get.

I could go on, and on. same thing every game. We should be 6-1 or even 7-0. One play change per game could have won them all.

  105. By fire childress on Nov 5, 2010 | Reply

i know another job Chilly could do once he gets fired. he could get hired at every county fair around the country on the dunk tank. he could go to the odd shaped people tent too

  106. By BE SANE & SERIOUS on Nov 5, 2010 | Reply

firechildress, you are quite clever– childress at a dunk tank, now with all the haters out there, childress might make more in that job than as coach. But I disagree with making comments about his physical appearance– that is not necessary– that kind of talk should be left on the playground back at the age of three or four–

  107. By TWVIKE on Nov 5, 2010 | Reply

AP leads the league in rushing with 7 games played. The others have played 8. He is truly the bright spot in this season.

  108. By Rick on Nov 5, 2010 | Reply

I think the major problem is that 3 year Contract extention Ziggy gave to Childress way to soon. Even at 6-0 there were already known facts of a cracked relationship between Brett and Brad.

I think Chilly gets 3 million a year, and unlike the players, it’s guarenteed.

So Childress knows by now he is over his head. But he can’t quit and give up that much money. So he tries to get fired, so he can still draw his salary.

Ziggy, is having a hard time cutting bait and letting him go. It’s hard to just give away another 7-8 million for nothing. Yet it that is all he was getting (nothing) from Brad it might be understandable. But what Ziggy hasn’t figured out yet is that the damage Brad is causing will far exceed the 2+ years of wasted salary.

Unless, Ziggy is “all in” also to ruin this team, thereby making the move to LA easier.

  109. By Rick on Nov 5, 2010 | Reply

Minnesota Vikings owner Zygi Wilf was so angry with coach Brad Childress for not consulting him on Randy Moss that Wilf delayed the wide receiver’s placement on waivers for a day and considered firing Childress and keeping Moss, ESPN.com reported today, citing a team source.

Now it’s time for Ziggy to explain why he could not make that right call.

  110. By Rick on Nov 5, 2010 | Reply

After catching only one pass for 8 yards in the Vikings’ 28-18 loss to the New England Patriots, Moss walked into the visitors’ locker room where Wilf and other executives stood. According to an NFL source familiar with what transpired, Moss told the Vikings owner in no uncertain terms that Childress wasn’t a good coach and should be fired.

This is always the way it comes down. The one who is honest and speaks his mind gets fired. The rest will complain among each other, but only behind the bosses back so to save their job.

  113. By BE SANE & SERIOUS on Nov 5, 2010 | Reply

The first three chapters were actually a very good read– after a 6-10 start, Childress led the team to three consecutively better seasons, ending the last two with division titles and last year, a play away from the Superbowl. Yes, Childress has made some bad calls, but there are also mistakes by many players that did not execute on what was called. Overall, Childress is one of the better coaches– not the best by any means, but he is decent.

If the players do not know what is going in the Moss deal, the media sure doesn’t. I have read, in more than one source, that some media members want their teams to lose. This is crazy. However it is easier to write negative articles than it is to write a special feature about a star player. —————————————Notice there haven’t been any articles written on Adrian Peterson (at least none that I can remember). There certainly have not been any features like with Favre FOR THE LAST TWO YEARS. I like Favre, but Peterson is a better player right now for his position. Ah, who wants to read that boring, positive stuff when I can read how wicked the coach is?

  120. By Frederick Jones on Nov 5, 2010 | Reply

Most of the media like the negative story. Actually that is what most people want to read. I am not saying I am any different. I would like to see a story on Adrian Peterson’s life. I know very little about his college career and injuries.

  121. By BE SANE & SERIOUS on Nov 5, 2010 | Reply

I am always hoping — we have basically the same team as last year– what I cringed at was the trade of Chester Taylor– that was a severe blow to our offense- but Toby looked real good lately– I think he will have a good game Sunday. Rice will be back soon and if our defense plays at a level like it did the first four games, we will do well. Childress has made some real questionable play calling, but what coach has not? Our players need to go out and dominate and eliminate the sloppy play– last year we had very few penalties, not this year–I do believe Sunday will be our most lopsided win in a long time– maybe by two or three TDs.

  122. By Frederick Jones on Nov 5, 2010 | Reply

What about the struggles Peterson went through in college, or high school. Did he play any other sports. There is alot to write about this guy, and he seems like a great role model for kids. Why is he not being written about.

WAKE UP THIS IS NOT 2009……….Jared Allen is not the player he was is 2009. Brett Favre is not the player he was in 2009. Hutch, Mckinnie, etc are not doing the job they did in 2009.
Frederick you are a complete TOOL to say that Childress is a decent coach……Childress reminds me of Les Steckel……..dude could not do the job……
And as for the argument “he wouldn’t be an NFL coach if he was not good…..”

They keep hoping and praying that this will turn around, but they haven’t figured out that Brad has lost this locker room and that this team is heading for one of the NFL’s biggest bust for a team that has ever been seen! Bigger than Dallas, because Dallas was placed near the top on pure speculation of their roster. We, last year, we were there….a play or two away from the BOWL !

This year has been and will continue to be one huge nightmare!

Randy Moss did not appear on waivers for 24 hours because Vikings owner
Zygi Wilf was furious about being circu mvented by coach Brad Childress. The owner considered retaining Moss and firing Childress, according to a team source.

Childress and two team executives did not respond to emails and text messages sent by ESPN seeking comment.

Childress, according to The Star Tribune, put his job in jeopardy because he didn’t follow franchise pro tocol and talk to Wilf before deciding to place Moss on waivers.

Also, RockSalt, now that I’m up and have read the paper about Brad and Percy going at it yesterday on the practice field and now that’s it out that Ziggy was thinking about firing Brad this week over the Moss deal…….JUST CONFIRMS TO THE PLAYERS AND THE LOCKER ROOM THAT BRAD HAS LOST THAT THEY ARE RIGHT IN THEIR FEELINGS AND THEIR THINKING!

IN MY OPINION, BRAD HAS TO BE FIRED NOW!

THERE IS NO TURNING BACK ON THIS AND THERE IS NO WAY THAT BRAD CAN REGAIN THE LOCKER ROOM!

Moss, who, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, told Vikings owner Zygi Wilf after their loss to the Patriots that Childress was a bad coach and should be fired. Childress may well lose his job. That does not mean that it is a smart move by the Vikings if he does. Marty Shottenheimer was fired by the Chiefs and Chargers. The man won something like 200 games. His last Charger team was 14-2. What have the Chargers done since?

I, too questioned the verity and/or intent of the media last year with the “schism” between Childress and Favre. I was willing to give Childress the benefit of the doubt, and was willing to attribute the incidents as “media looking for story”
But now this year, there are too many recurring incidents of a failed leadership.
The red flags that keep on appearing are not decorative xmas banners….they are warnings that should, by now, alert us to a major problem.

The Vikings have lost alot of games. We had high expectations coming into this season. We thought the Vikings would go to the Superbowl. The media takes advantage of this situation and tries to make a story. I am worried that they will succeed at some point.

  227. By BE SANE & SERIOUS on Nov 6, 2010 | Reply

Well, no one disagrees that Childress has made some apparent blunders– I think there is no argument there at all— none whatsoever– we all agree we could be 5-2 or even better with a different head coach– How we handle the situation is key– blasting fire chilly over and over is barbaric Roman gladiator-style coliseum tactics that will not help the team. If we are to change leadership, it must come from Zygi and be done swiftly and a change executed seamlessly. Screaming and berating the head coach only spreads negativity and honestly is not going to do anything in terms of your real goal to change the head coach. As adults, there are more efficient and effective ways to change the head coach— IF you guys are serious— writing anti-chilly comments on a blog will not effect change– DO it the way that will make real change.

Frederick– I think we agree more with the others than they realize– we just disagree on the reality of firing a head coach mid-season– it could help, but it could cause a transition where we lose several games in a row. Under Childress we have had a great deal of success after 3 or so mediocre years under Tice– we have most of the same players as last year– the players look like they came into this year expecting to be champions, rather than working for it– plus our schedule this year is much much harder than last year. 12-4 last year–wins were against St. Louis, Cleveland, 2 Detroit, Seattle– 5 easy wins. But even so- we were very strong in the playoffs– As long as we can get rolling and finish with 10 or more wins, we can get there this year–

Nova, I am just saying– study history and all the greats whether politics, sports, or anything– almost without exception, they all were called failures in their careers and mocked and ridiculed. Childress took his first head coach job and took a team from 6-10 to two division titles within two seasons, and one play from the Superbowl– that is impressive and if he learns from his mistakes, in a few years he could be one of the greats. You can mock him all you want– we all make blunders– he is in a tough spot because it is a very public spot — Winston Churchill was considered a loser well into middle age– Abe Lincoln lost election after election year after year until finally late in life he became president. ALL I AM SAYING IS– don’t be so quick to condemn the man– no matter who we have as coach– if he makes a few mistakes, everyone will condemn him– if he succeeds, all love him– what a society. No compassion– treat humans like circus animals– did the trick, great, we applaud. Did poorly– we call the person an idiot. I will acknowledge mistakes have been made, BUT I REFUSE TO CONDEMN the man in petty ways and nasty rhetoric. SIMPLE– that is my stand.

By the way, last time I checked…….the fans respond according to what a team does or does not do on any given Sunday.
These highly paid athletes are professionals, they are paid rather well to go out and do their respective jobs……If anyone thinks that we as fans determine(through blogging) the degree to which a team might perform successfully is sadly mistaken.
True, fans at a game can effect a team’s performance on the field……but even so, to attribute a team’s success based upon fans thinking positively or negatively is laughable.
I say this: The team must do postive things to elicit a positve response from the fans…..when the team performs negatively, the natural response from the fans merely reflects the reality of the situation.

Frazier would be a logical choice… and a poor one. What has he done to fix his ailing defense this year? NO pressure on the QBs, NO coverage downfield, and the run defense is mediocre at best. Do we mix in the blitz? Nope. Frazier has been interviewed and bypassed for more than a few head coaching positions in the past few years, and I think there is good reason. If the Williams boys and Allen can’t beat their man/men in the trenches, he throws up his hands. Unimpressive coach.

Nova, At least you still want the Vikings to win. I’ve been watching the Vikings since the middle of Bud Grant’s era. I have always liked the coach. There have been times when I have questioned his decisions. For example in 1971 the Vikings had 3 veteran qb’s: Gary Cuozzo, Bob Lee, and Norm Snead. Grant played Cuozzo the most. Most of my friends and I, would have rather seen Snead or Lee as the QB. The next year they got rid of all of them and brought back Fran Tarkenton.

  439. By Frederick Jones on Nov 6, 2010 | Reply

I should mention that Norm Snead led the AFC in passing in 1972 for the NY Giants. The Vikings were 7-7, but then went on to play in 3 more Super Bowls.

Alot of people thought Snead was done in 1971. But he came back and had at least 2 more good years. Brad Childress is far from done. His record has been an impressive one for the Vikings. He will go on to have more success, hopefully in Minnesota. He might not get another head coach nfl job if he doesn’t make it through this current muck-raking. Unless he has a good old boy network. Then it doesn’t matter.

Arizona has big problems– we should see a resurgence in our pass rush– a few sacks are coming! We scored 24 against Detroit pre-Moss and at that time Toby Gerhart was not good at all– he has really come together the past couple weeks– I just believe we are going to have a big, big game and take advantage of a struggling team to get our swagger back– Tampa Bay scored close to 40 points last week in Arizona– SO – I do believe we will have the most points this season– 34 is reasonable– IF we lose, it’s cause the team wants chilly gone.

Do you need a boss for you to do an excellent job? The coach is not there to motivate, but to mastermind a plan to maximize on the strengths of each player and to use these strengths in a chess match against an opponent. Motivation comes from inside– if these players need a pep rally, then they need to find a career they have more passion for. Maybe a few million dollars a year should be motivation enough.
Joaquin– You are right– I think Childress was afraid of something– knew if Moss stayed, he would not last much longer.

FACT- this is his first NFL head coaching job– in his fourth year went from 6-10 to one play from the Superbowl in OT in a very hostile on the road game.

I do not want to see us fire the coach every other year like some organizations. The Chiefs are an example of this. They often fire the coach, even after a winning season. Yes, Frederick that is a key point– franchises fire a coach after a season or two when it takes time to build a winning formula– they jump from one horse to another and never win. ABC/ ESPN report Chilly confronts Harvin about his effort in practice Friday. It becomes heated. I think Mr. Wilf wanted to fire Chilly on Tuesday, but the players must have assured him things would only get worse. I do firmly believe Chilly wants to be fired now. Ed Werder reports that Chilly gets $16M if fired, if he quits next to nothing. Also, Cowher and Gruden have indicated to the Cowboys they don’t want to coach right now in the middle of the seaosn. The risk of being out $3.35M on Moss was far less than bagging Chilly. Chilly’s agent must have been Clem Haskins… Oh, and watch the Hitler clip, it does capture a lot of the feelings we are having as Viking fans.

I side in agreement with fire childress and NovaScotiaVike. Childress is doing what Denny Green did toward the end of his tenure- pass the blame on everyone else but himself. Unfortunately we as Viking fans will suffer this year. Its too bad Favre has to go outy like this…Childress will last till years end-(unless we get beat by the Cards) He will get canned on black Monday and Brian Billick will be our new head coach by the end of the same week. Wilf is trying to bring a Superbowl to Minnesota he will cut his losses with a coach he does not believe in anymore and go with a strong leader with a good track record. I know the season is not over…but, seriously!

Nah, 3 million or 16 million– the same to the Wilfs- they are in a whole different world than most of the population– 16 million to them would be like 500 to someone who makes 70K a year– pocket change to them.

the money is not an issue– if Zygi believes a coaching change is needed, he will do it without hesitation

i was reading a article written by Michael Lombardi and he said, CHILLY COULD NEVER LEAD THE VIKINGS TO A SUPERBOWL WIN

Frederick Jones…. Its not a sin for a coach to have a losing season. Heck, if Lombardi took over the Bills this year, he probably wouldn’t take them to 9-7… I could understand that and be excited about the future. THIS coach, and I use the term loosely, has a top level team talent-wise, and is driving it right into the ground. That, my friend, IS a sin in my book.

Fun Fact… If The movie spoof was right, and Randy Moss did call Chilly a bald headed weenie. Then he truly is a “Chilly Dog.”

Fun fact… We have the best looking team that has only beaten Dallas and The Lions.

Fun Fact…Speakiing up against the calls is the little that I like about this coach, lately… and he got fined for it… He should be fined for de-Mossing us, not complaining about slanted calls.

ENOUGH WITH THE CHILDRESS LOVERS…………If the team does not play, then it is on the coach…….especially a team with the talent like ours. I have personally seen this before on high school teams I have been a part of. If the coach is not conne cting with the team-FORGET ABOUT IT!!!!!
Leadership is spmeothing valuable……we do not often notice when it is there, but it is always clear when it is absent!
A good coach, like a good teacher, boss, mentor, etc creates the situation in which the individuals on a team come together to do more collectively than each could do on his own.
THAT IS LEADERSHIP……..CHILDRESS DOES NOT HAVE IT!!!!!!

i consider Michael Lombardi to have one of the best or the best football mind out there. on http://www.nfl.com, he wrote a article that Chilly would never lead the Vikings to the super bowl, he said his communication and leadership skills are some of the worse he seen in a head coach. i agree, Chilly needs to get let go today, wheater we win or not !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But Childress made the call on wearing purple pants……that should count for something

  592. By 4eversteve on Nov 7, 2010 | Reply

Even if the Vikings defeat the Cardinals today Childress should be put on the first plane out of town. This team has played uninspired football all year long, Childress has lost the respect of everybody on the team as far as players go. The Vikings roster is by far an away one of the most talented team, player for player in the NFL today yet they continue to underachieve they need a coach to challenge them to be the best player at their position on any given Sunday. Childress simply doesn’t command that type of respect from his players an it reflect in their play so far this season, losing is just not an option anymore if the Vikings hope to make the playoffs. Childress has proven that he is not a leader of men and doesn’t have what it takes to get the job done. A head coaching change is long over due the players an fans have suffered long enough under this clown. Pull the trigger already Zygi !
