Wednesday Injury Report: Favre, Harvin Sit Out

Posted by Mike Wobschall on November 3, 2010 – 2:55 pm

Vikings QB Brett Favre (foot/ankle/chin) and WR Percy Harvin (ankle) were held out of practice on Wednesday while 8 other Vikings joined the offensive stars on Wednesday’s injury report.

CB Chris Cook (quadricep), T Chris DeGeare (ankle), LB Ben Leber (knee), CB Lito Sheppard (hand), CB Frank Walker (hamstring) and DT Pat Williams (elbow) were all limited. CB Asher Allen (back) and C John Sullivan (calf) were full participants.

The Cardinals listed 7 players on their initial injury report, including starting RB Beanie Wells (knee). Wells was limited in practice on Wednesday, as were DT Alan Branch (back), WR Steve Breaston (knee), LB Will Davis (groin), WR Early Doucet (groin) and DE Kenny Iwebema (shoulder). LB Clark Haggans (groin) was held out of practice.

Why didn’t childress try to TRADE Moss first? Maybe he could have gotten a 3rd, 4th or 5th-round draft choice for him, instead of just putting him on the waiver list?

In any case, after watching childress coach I can truthfully say he is the worst coach the Vikings have ever had…worse than Grant, Burns and Greene combined…and those 3 were the worst in the league when they were coaching.

childress has no idea how to manage a game once it has started, and he has no idea of a 2nd-half game plan until half time. A 2nd-half game plan should be decided BEFORE the game, based on knowing how the opposing team is going to react to your initial game plan.

Also, childress has no idea how to inspire a team. He believes that the players should motivate themselves, and that is just NOT a reality on a week-in-and-week-out basis.

When your entire coaching staff misses throwing a red flag on a touchdown that should not have counted, then that in itself is grounds for being fired.

We have the personnel to go to the Super Bowl, and frankly I KNOW I could coach this team to that very end.

In conclusion, childress is a joke!

    Hey Mike,

I’m a student at University of North Dakota, I was wondering if you would know of any entry level positions with the coaching/scouting/marketing/website staff out there that could be open for me to apply for? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Roger Troy Wilson I agree completely with everything you just said. I was just about to post that they should have traded Moss out and gotten at least 5th or 4th rounder out of him to make up somewhat for the 3rd rounder we lost. Thank you for actually providing support for the fact that Childress should be fired instead of being like the people who just say FIRE CHILDRESS FIRE CHILDRESS 200 times. Because he’s such a terrible coach, he doesnt have control of the team, then he tries to show that he has control by doing stupid stuff like getting rid of a star player. If he was a good coach, he could talk some sense into Randy instead of just giving up.

  4. By common sense on Nov 3, 2010 | Reply

He couldn’t trade Moss; the trade deadline was week 6. But don’t worry, we’ve got Hank Baskett….

Get well Brett and Percy! We need you both! And Sidney, I hope you can play very soon! Beat the cardinals! And thank you for ridding us of unrespectable Moss. Moss never tried hard for the team. Our guys are always fighting hard for the team, especially Brett.

ASHER ALLEN HAS A BAD BACK, MMMM, MOST LIKELY FROM GETTING HIS A$$ HANDED TO HIM ON TWO PLAYS THAT DEFINED THIS DEBACLE OF A GAME, ONE ON THE TATE TD AND THE OTHER ON THE 3RD DOWN PLAY WHERE HE HAS THE RAPS ON THE RUNNER, AND THEN LETS HIM GO…THE PATS HAVE TO PUNT, GAME OVER…VIKES WIN….

  8. By Robins on Nov 3, 2010 | Reply

We have lost all the games because a player didn’t make a play. Every game, you can see where we blew it, where things changed. This last game, when Percy didn’t hold on to the ball, and it was intercepted, that changed the game. And you are right Purplehaze, Asher Allen blew it too. Why can’t our defense stop the other team? The Packers, whom I can’t stand, won the game because they wouldn’t let the Jets score.

Childress instills a soft team, nobody is stepping up and speaking there voice showing frustration, we need a vocal leader in that locker room.

Well here is my take on the whole thing that took place this last week. Moss is and always has been an egotistical, smart mouthed jack a s s! He’s gone and I think Rice is better receiver than Moss is. Rice gives 110% on every play and Rice goes for the ball 110% of the time. So if came down to it, I would take Rice over Moss any day of the week. Now Childress is finally getting it, he admitted he needs to coach better. Whether that means talking a field goal when you can or staring the best players you have. Or if it means being more open to suggestions from your offensive cordinator or your QB. Childress has to realize that 2-3 heads are better than just his head. Lastly, I really think we should bring back Walker and let Berrian go. Berrian just isn’t performing well and we need top knotch performers at this point in the season. So good look Vikings and I certainly wish we would have a story book ending as Brett said was possible.

  17. By Bruce on Nov 3, 2010 | Reply

P.S. I think that Jeff Fisher should fly in some of Gus’s catering for Moss’s first meal ;)

  18. By PurpleParody on Nov 3, 2010 | Reply

Roger Troy Wilson – You’re an idiot for 2 reasons – 1) The trade deadline was week 6, so we couldn’t trade Moss until after the season. 2) Grant was the best coach we ever had. That is why you see his name in the ring of honor. Tice (who you didn’t list) is by far the worst coach (outside of Chilly) that I have ever seen for the Vikings.

  19. By Aceviking on Nov 3, 2010 | Reply

I really think that we should fire Childress. I mean he can be a good coach, but everything needs to be perfect for that. We should have Frazier become head coach… he will be a great coach in this league someday, and I don’t want it to be on another team. The last defensive coordinator we got rid of was Mike Tomlin, and he won the Super Bowl with the Steelers. Also, if Brett Favre isnt 100%, DON’T START HIM!!!!!!!!! Tarvaris Jackson at 100% is better than a 75% Brett Favre any day. We can still have a great season, we just need to make smarter decisions!

You are 100% right, that little piece of s@$T Berrian can’t block, catch, or go even go one on one with a CB. He doesn’t bring anything to the team, just watch him in particular and everyone will notice how bad he actually is. The only reason he was good on the Bears cause he was a pile of garbage 5th stringer that everyone forgot about and sexy rexy would just launch it to him everytime!

Yee haw! Go Vikings! Playoffs here we come– and a home game at that.

Got to give it to Brett, has yet to throw chilly under the bus eventhough Brett likes Moss, didnt give any details or blame chilly. Didnt blame Percy for the interception…Unlike our coach who quickly blames and pretty much took blame from himself for the loss of NE by waving Moss.

  37. By BE SANE & SERIOUS on Nov 3, 2010 | Reply

I read another blog poster who said Moss helped the Patriots win and to be honest, that was eerie to read because during the game I wondered if Moss was trying to not play. We have seen Moss in the past when he wants to seek revenge and he was so nonchalant on Sunday. I wonder if there is truth to that– who knows what goes on behind all these closed doors? People, there is a lot of money being moved around in the NFL– it ain’t all what it appears to be. Just like the Packer game– the Vikes won that game– clear to see, but the referees made sure we did not– why? What is really going on? Who is pulling the strings?

  38. By Joe on Nov 3, 2010 | Reply

Its not like if we ever targeted Moss in the NE game..Sure he was mainly just jogging but thats because we were just using him to take the double coverage to get Percy open.

Chilly never once tried to get Moss open just let him pull defenders..im nearly certain the times we threw to him was because Brett called out the plays which in occasion led to interceptions in past games…cant blame him for trying to get your top receiver involved when your coach wont.

Seconday has injuries, but more are getting healthy. Sullivan is stabilizing the line play. When everything is flying around outside the team, these are times when men of pride and character step up and get motivated. Our D-line knows they’ve played better, and will put it together to get some pressure on Anderson Sunday. Let’s hope for an early lead, maybe Antoine or Percy can get us some unexpected points on defense or special teams. Hopefully, this will be a game the early lead will allow us to run A.P. downhill reducing Favre hits, possibly getting Favre out early with a secure lead. FANS: Cheer as loud as you ever have at the game Sunday, create a chaotic atmosphere and boo Chilly every time he tries to do something blatantly stupid. Let the players know we’re still behind them at least!

firechildress may be the most entertaining blogger, even though I rarely agree with your statements. I like what Be Sane and Serious said about the Vikings winning like 10 out of their last 11 games last year. I completely forgot that. There is not really any reason why something like that couldn’t happen again. I hope our FANS stay positive for the rest of the season. Or should I say get positive.

  42. By Bruce on Nov 3, 2010 | Reply

I just wish that Childress would say to Bevel & Brett just one week that he’s letting them game plan and call the plays.

  43. By Joe on Nov 3, 2010 | Reply

In the jets game, when we did that hurry up offense late in the second half the offense looked great..scored 3 times and had over 200 yards in a ten minute period

Against the NE, brett was moving the ball very well against NE as we controlled the clock With AP and brett dictating the offense…but the second half the play calling was very predictable, uncreative never attempting a deep play …

Placing Percy as the RB at times has been great but it seems that Chilly can only come up with one creative play per game..as he only runs it once.

Let Brett and the players run the offense…might aswell try something different.

  44. By Frederick Jones on Nov 3, 2010 | Reply

Bruce you are another great blogger who makes intelligent remarks, even though I rarely agree with them. I think that only the Vikings know who calls the plays the most, and how often the audible. There is alot of info we do not get as fans.

I’ve read in more than one book that Tarkenton ran the Vikings during the Bud Grant era. Ahmad Rashad said that in his book. Supposedly Jim Marshall missed 3 practices in a row. They had to write down the reason on a clipboard. For all 3 days he wrote down “Tired.” This is according to Ahmad Rashad.

  46. By Frederick Jones on Nov 3, 2010 | Reply

Jim Marshall was supposed to have slept on top of the lockers during those 3 days off from practice, according to Rashad.

I am a great admirer of Jim Marshall. They were not perfect in those days either. Even Bud Grant has his detractors.

We probably should stay behind all of our players, and coaches. Let the owners and administration decide when, or if they need to be asked to resign.

  49. By BE SANE & SERIOUS on Nov 3, 2010 | Reply

Frederick Jones — everyone has their critics– people feel better bringing someone else below them– makes them superior. The fact is, the Bud Grants and even, yes even the Chillies of this world are in the spotlight for a reason– they have done something with their lives– regardless of the criticism, and I am one who believes a different coach may have us at 5-2 or better– but regardless, these people have made their mark. I believe a certain level of respect is due to Chilly for his career successes- you do not go to that level because you are a moron, so easy to criticize those in battle– once it is you, gee, maybe you fare much worse. We can come out of this– and by the way, we won 10 out of our first 11 — not last – last season, but we can win 7 to 9 games yet– as long as they are in front of us a W is possible. The future is a blank check and for now, I am writing Superbowl on the Viking paycheck.

Be Sane and Serious: Thank you for correcting me on the occurance of the 10 out of 11. I guess I think that it would be an injustice to fire any Vikings coach right now. I think that is similar to what you said.——————————————When I coached, I knew there were better coaches than me. But the more I coached the more I learned. The coach winds up learning more than the players. ——-It is a process to win the Super Bowl some day. It could happen this year—–But I’m not holding my breath! I just hope the Vikings win their next game!!!

Rick you are right about Plunkett going into despair, and then coming back to win the Super Bowl ring. Frank Reich of the NY Giants, spurred on his team to a 32 point comeback. When Reich was at Maryland he led a 31 point comeback over Miami. That’s why they say, “On any given Sunday, anything can happen.” The Vikings can still win. I believe.

  53. By Frederick Jones on Nov 3, 2010 | Reply

By the way Reich’s comeback was over the Houston Oilers in 1993.

  54. By MTVike on Nov 3, 2010 | Reply

You guys talk about the one or two plays that cast us the game each week. With this fire-power, a good coach and O Coordinator would have 40 points on the scoreboard when that bad play happens. Childress is too scared to take any chances or be creative in play design. It’s like a high school playbook. Use the first down pass to open up the running lanes. Childress will never get it.

  55. By BE SANE & SERIOUS on Nov 3, 2010 | Reply

The Vikings will win the next three– I am confident of that. Success breeds success– we really need a few wins and momentum will take over. I am still a bit in shock over Moss– as much as I thought he still had his immature arrogant attitude, he was a force on the field. But that is over– Frederick – as long as it is possible, I will keep saying we are going to win it all.

Here’s the deal about game planning and calling plays. I have heard Favre in conferences state he has had this idea or that idea as far as a play is concerned and he stated we should try doing this or that. Childress is the primary person in deciding the game planning. He approves the plays and he has the privelage of creating new plays and trying them. My suggestion is for Childress to loosen up the reins a little bit and let Bevel & Favre try designing some plays and then work on them during the week and also have more input on which current plays they should run and how often according to the opposing defense capabilities. I think Childress is the kind of coach that isn’t open to many suggestions because he strikes me as control freak.

SANE and SERIOUS and FRED are plants, no doubt about it, maybe friends of Mike W (blog editor), I’m beyond sick of them two and their soap box preaching.

Just because someone makes it to a certain station in life, does not mean they automatically earn my respect if they are failing at that station which I and thousands of others believe Chilly is doing.

Sane, before you open your mouth and attack me like you do others, I’m in the top 3 or 4% of anual per capita earners in the US, so don’t say I’m a jealous wanna be who hasn’t amounted to anything. I just have no interest in being a football coach unless its my son’s pop warner team and then, its only for him, not for my personal interest, however, I can recognize when someone isn’t coaching a pro team as well as others are coaching theirs!

I hope the Titans throw lots of TDs to Moss, and I think Chilly is like a child not getting into it about Moss. When they brought him in he had a clean slate, according to Chilly. Now he is gone and refuses to state anything about why. It is better for the team and he can sleep well? How would any team defend Moss, Rice, Harvin and Peterson? That will never happen now. Firing Childress seems too kind. If I did not care about the Vikinga, this would all seem funny. Especially with him telling us Activating Basket is the answer to our troubles.

BB was a good receiver, but is not a good featured reciever. When he gets single coverage and can streak to a ball thrown in front, he is a vertical asset.

It is time we get another look at Jackson. Favre will be gone and we need to see at least second halves from Jackson to evaluate if we are going with that guy next year. I though the TD to Tahi reminded me of the 2 pt conversion option that Favre overlooked in the previous game. As little of I have seen of Jackson, I think he has improved, and his feet buying time like Brady can mean alot of difference in the coverages and completions.

Chili needs to be put on the IR. I think he has a broken brain.

I have been a season-ticket holder since the beginning and suffered through the Bud Grant era of “off tackle left, off tackle right, pass, punt” with absolutely no game plan for the 2nd half!…with players that should EASILY have won the Super Bowl! Granted, Grant was the best of the Vikings’ worst, but he most certainly was NOT the caliber of Belichick or any other Hall of Fame coach.

Grant was a total control freak, just like childress…both of them with the mindset, “it’s my way or the highway”.

Thanks for reminding me about Tice and Steckel…I stand corrected, as they were worse than Van Broklin, Grant, Burns & Green. The fact is the Vikings have NEVER had a GREAT coach.

The Vikings deserve a great coach, and childress is not even in that ballpark!

fire chilly, he can’t handle his locker room, no communication skills. His answer to Moss is not to talk to him or even yell at him in person, waive him while he’s out of town and let the viking players get beat up by the media because he’s a COWARD. That’s right Chilly, you’re a COWARD…….

No T-Jack! one touchdown pass for 4 yards doesnt make him better! the next drive he threw to the middle of the field and took off and ran (again) he cannot read a defense and he panics and takes off running. quarterbacks who run in the nfl wont cut it! just ask vick. play the rook!

  73. By Dusty on Nov 4, 2010 | Reply

I am not trying to defend Chilly, but why was nobody complaining about him last year when things were going well ??? His coaching style didn’t miraculously change in the course of one year ! It appears to me that players just aren’t stepping up, and not having Rice, and trading Chester Taylor are the bigger issues. And Favre’s injuries/drama/lack of good play are key to the Vikings failures. Just saying that as valuable a good coach is, players are a bigger issue. In high school a coach is huge, but these are grown men who play this sport professionally for millions of dollars and shouldn’t need a power speech, or a how to book, or a moticvational speeker to play well.

D E F E N S E ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Frazier, if you want to be even considered for a head coaching job in the future, you better put a boot to the backside of that bunch of zombies you call a defense. If that doesnt work maybe the bench might help! I wouldnt mind seeing more of Kennedy! Oh, by the way, its called a BLITZ in case you forgot! cover 2 only works if you have the personnel! remember the days when you could count on the defense for a touchdown or two a game?

What are you talking about…everyone was complaining about Chilly last year aswell..But the passing game was very effective that we looked passed it but remember that game in carolina, Arizona or how we had 12 men on the field in that saints game that cost us the superbowl?

When things go wrong, everything gets pointed out and were seeing how his mediocre play calling is costing us this year.

I bet that if we dont win sunday, Chilly will be done! If I knew that to be true, I would be the biggest Cardinal fan for one day! Adios Chilly!

I believe what Be Sane and Serious wrote about Randy Moss trying to not win the game for the Vikings. Did you see how long he and Belechek talked after the game?

@Frederick Jones: So I read one of your comments and I just have to argue with it for the fact that if your going to get on here and saythings you need to get your facts straight…so the comment i want to contest is you were saying that the vikings won 10 of their last 11 games last season and that is absolutely incorrect. Its a 17 week season, playing 16 games and 1 bye week…so if you take the 17 weeks and minus the last 11 games then your at week 6. As of week 6 last season the vikings were 6-0. So with that being said…if we won 10 out of our last 11 we wouldve been 15-1…but we werent we were 12-4. First loss of the season last season came I believe in week 7 VS. The steelers, then we lost one to chicago in OT, one to Arizona in arizona and I believe (not 100%) that we lost to carolina in carolina…so in reality we only won 7 of our last 11 games last season…not a big deal i just thought id contest your statement.

Who is Hank Baskett? does he hold the record for the most TD catches in a season? …no I dont think so. That would be #84 Randy Moss with 23. How many has Baskett had in a season? 1? maybe 2? I have never even heard of this guy and he is supposed to replace Moss? please..

top 3 % annual –annual is with two “n”s. You must be an entertainer or basketball star- an investor or business owner knows how to spell. Also– beyond sick of “them” two— them two? More like the 3rd grade.
