Vikings Infirmary Report

Posted by Mike Wobschall on November 2, 2010 – 6:41 am

In light of the Vikings decision to part ways with WR Randy Moss, the player whose injury status will be under the spotlight is Sidney Rice, who remains on the PUP list after undergoing hip surgery just before the regular season.

Vikings Head Coach Brad Childress hasn’t given an indication on how close Rice is to returning and Rice himself has not given a timetable when asked by reporters. Perhaps Childress will be asked about Rice’s status during his regular Wednesday press conference, which you can watch live on vikings.com.

Until then, though, there are other injured Vikings players to talk about and that’s what Childress did during his Monday press conference. Here’s an update on a few of those players…

QB Brett Favre (ankle/foot, chin) – Going into last weekend’ game against the New England Patriots, the big question with Favre was whether or not his injured ankle/foot would allow him to play. Obviously it did, but coming out of the Patriots game the injury concern dramatically shifted from Favre’s ankle/foot to his chin. Favre took a hit directly to the chin and was knocked out of the game in the 4th quarter. The wound required 8 stitches to heal and following the game reporters wondered if Favre had suffered a concussion.

Asked on Monday if there was any doubt Favre would start this weekend’s game against the Arizona Cardinals, Childress said, “I don’t think so. I just saw him in there doing some leg curls. Typically, if you’re concussed we’re not doing any exercise today; we’re not doing an exercise challenge.”

WR Percy Harvin (ankle) – Harvin was the Vikings leading receiver against New England with 6 receptions for 104 yards, but he did all of that after tweaking his ankle in the 1st quarter. It appeared as if Harvin rolled his ankle after making a catch and it was clear he was in pain after the play. Harvin obviously returned and he told reporters after the game that it was adrenaline that enabled him to keep playing.

“He was in there treating as well today,” Childress said. “Sore. How it will be on Wednesday when we come back out here and practice? I’m not sure. He’ll certainly have to treat today or tomorrow.”

CBs Chris Cook and Frank Walker – Both Cook and Walker were banged up late in last weekend’s game and Childress was asked about their status.

“They’re banged up and receiving treatment today,” Childress said. “Hopefully they make it to Wednesday.”

When are they going to release Childress???? He is ruining the Vikings!! I drive 7 hours every home game to watch my favorite team play, not to see Chidress make bone-headed moves.

Dont say the Vikings decision to release Randy, say it was the Head-Coaches decision. He is a Fv<KING IDIOT and has no business coaching this team. Fire the MORON NOW!!!! Keep Moss!!!!

I have been a life long viking fan. And I have decided to quit on them because of this past issues with Childress. Releasing Moss is ending our season and is a disgrace. Childress is the problem, not Moss. Hopefully the Vikings will move from Minnesota for good.

This man is a mental midget. He makes me sick. He needs to go now! As far the the Moss issue i think Moss will flap his lips as usual and we will undoubtably fide the real story.

Coach Childress made this decision based on what he saw from this player as a TEAM Player. If the player in question is so great, what team ever won a championship with him on the team? He is all about himself, not the team. I am a lifelong Viking fan and this whole season has been rough, but I will continue to support my team and whatever decisions the coach makes. It was a reach to bring him here in the first place. I would take issue with him being brought here at all and giving up a valuable pick for him than the player being released.

Childress is ugly as he is useless. If Wilf doesn’t fire Childress and retain Moss, I’m out. I can’t be a fan of an organization without a backbone. I hope great players like Adrian Peterson, Sidney Rice, Chad Greenway, Percy Harvin, E.J. Henderson and Kevin Williams sign with a different team.

  11. By Robins on Nov 2, 2010 | Reply

We need Sidney back. He is 10 times better then Moss. What has Moss done for us in four games? I don’t know why everyone is having a cow. If Sidney, Percy, or Adrian were let lose I could understand it. They are magnificent players and you can see them playing hard for their team. Moss misses simple catches. He is overrated.

Childress and Farve have been a disaster. At the end of the day, Farve hasn’t delivered what he came here to do. Bottom line he did not lead MN to a Super Bowl last year and certainly will not this year. Farve tells the media last week that NO-ONE needs to tell him how I played—-rip on his head coach-it is evident to me that Farve runs this team—-Childress does not have a personality that a player responds well to. He is F-ing socially inept and deep down, as arrogant as Farve. Farves’ ego is absolutely toxic and disgusting and he has been given too much credit, results baby, is what matters-PERIOD! I am glad Moss spoke up, at least he has the guts to do so and apparently cares enough to have a strong opinion…..FYI to the Wilfs-I like what you are all about but Farve and Childress disgusted me so much prior to the start of last year that I cancelled my 15 year-4 seats-end zone tickets. Farve is all about himself and Childress couldn’t sell himself out of a wet paper bag if his life depended on it. In this order and all within one day, please consider:

    • Bring Randy Back
    • Cut Farve
    • Fire Childress

Someone once told me “it can be slow and painful or fast and painful” I picked fast and painful ever since!!!!

i get a kick out of this article. check out the first sentence. In light of the Vikings decision to part ways with WR Randy Moss..ummmm- Mike W., the Vikings never made this move, Chilly did !!!! i do not even consider Chilly part of this organization anymore !!!!!!!!!!! fire chilly now !!!!!!!!! we want Randy back !!!!!!!!

  15. By fire childress on Nov 2, 2010 | Reply

Just get it done and fire him. Seriously it hurt to read that moss was leaving this morning. I’ve been saying fire him for the last two season’s. Something needs to be done. The players and the fans have no faith in him. What reason is there to keep him around? He has gave us nothing. Last season had nothing to do with coaching.

  16. By sharperhorns on Nov 2, 2010 | Reply

Keep in mind, Randy’s not gone yet. Brad has complete control of the 53 man roster, but Moss hasn’t been waived yet. Hopefully Zygi can step in and clear this whole thing up before our season goes out the window… not that it hasn’t already. :(

In my opinion, give our defensive coordinator a chance. We’re gonna lose Frazier at the end of this year (he had around 5 interviews for head coaching jobs last year) and if we have any hope of getting a good coach within the next couple of years, it’s gotta be him. Look at the other defensive coordinators from MN. Tony Dungy was one here a while ago, Mike Tomlin, who’s gone on to win a Championship… All i know is Chilly’s gotta go.

  17. By fire childress on Nov 2, 2010 | Reply

coachbento, you don’t know what your talking about,Robins, you don’t know anything either, Rice only draws single coverage, Moss draws double coverage. Moss is over 10 years older then Rice, and he’s still faster. Harvin gets open just about every play now, beause they put double coverage on Moss !!

  22. By SmileyStar on Nov 2, 2010 | Reply

Last Year the Vikings played well in, until Childress wanted control of the team and dragged the team to the ground towards the end of the season. Stupid decisions!!!!!! Favre is better off making his own play calls. He is a gunslinger. Childress didn’t use Moss as anything other than a decoy. Childress didn’t even use Favre’s deep ball. Everytime Favre changes a play called by childress, he picks plays that leave Favre vulnerable to taking hits or over reliance on the running game. The running game is great for eating up the clock. But the passing game can get you into the endzone quicker. WHY IS CHILDRESS SABOTAGING THE GAMES!!! HE’S COACHING TO LOSE!!!

  23. By arahn on Nov 2, 2010 | Reply

Even if the team is being moved to LA can the dagger called Chilly be taken out of our backs so we can have bit of relief for what is left of this season. I can’t stomach seeing another game while Col Clink is in charge.

Eden Prairie, MN (November 2, 2010) – “This decision was made based on what we know was in the best interests of the Minnesota Vikings, both in the short and long term,” said Viking owner Zygi Wilf. “We said good bye to Brad Childress today and brought back Randy Moss. We will be finding a coach with the intellect and desire to win! Someone with the ability to work with the players to build a TEAM!”

As a fan for 50 years, I think this is the lowest point I’ve seen, lower even than any of the Super Bowl losses, lower even than the Les Steckel debacle. Childress is no leader, and I think he unloaded Moss because he’s a little egotist who thinks he is the most important cog in the Vikings machine. It still rankles me that after the last timeout in regulation against the Saints in the NFC title game, the Vikes drew a 12-men- on-the-field penalty. That is a coaching problem, period. Childress has to be talked into going for two points every time when it is necessary to get the score within three or seven points. He doesn’t even see the most rudimentary elements of the game. He is a sad joke. I cannot believe the front office has turned him loose to destroy the team.

Childress…. painful to watch him run this talented team into the ground.

  30. By mike on Nov 2, 2010 | Reply

I like that Childress just waived Moss on his own without owners permission. That’s awesome, Childress, look in the mirror and waive yourself goodbye. You took in Moss knowing who he was and now you release him because you can’t handle the truth. And for all you Viking fans calling for Favre to be gone. I don’t remember anyone requesting that last year. It’s not his fault the vikings are losing, it goes back to the coach. It was the viking players that went to him this year, begging him to play with a bad ankle. We should of not asked him to come back with that injury because it took away all or most of his mobility. Whether you like him or not, he’s a viking player going out week after week, taking huge hits. If you watch the hits coming from Favre’s view point, you can see that he try’s to extend the throw, opening himself up for the hit. How could you blame him. Fire the coach now, try to salvage Moss from leaving, and let TJ start this weekend so Favre can heal. This is our only hope for salvation.

  31. By CalViking on Nov 2, 2010 | Reply

Apparently Chilly is supporting Cali’s pot proposition since he MUST have been smoking something when he released Moss! If he can put up with Favre’s ego, I don’t see how he can’t handle Moss and his baggage. Without Moss, the Vikings again lack a deep threat this season. Rice will be to rusty by the time he can play again, and Harvin is now injured. I heard Ziggy wasn’t happy with Chilly’s decision…maybe he could trade Chilly to another team for a different head coach?

    FRAZIER FOR HC

  34. By Hilary on Nov 2, 2010 | Reply

And here is yet another page in the Vikings’ sordid tale we like to call the 2010-2011 football season. These decisions all seem so rash and irresponsible. If you’re going to take a risk with Moss you don’t give up prime picks and then release him after four games. You don’t keep a QB in the game that has thrown 3 INT that obviously resulted from mental mistakes. At first I was a Childress fan because I was fairly certain he was the one with the brains to take a risk on Peterson when he was injured his senior year in college, brought in Jared Allen after some questionable behavior in KC, etc. However, I’m starting to lose faith. One words describes this season: MESS. I travel to one home game a year and that game is unfortunately this weekend, just in time for the whole team to be in flux.

  35. By brian on Nov 2, 2010 | Reply

The problem we have in MN is people continue to support this team and show up to watch a poorly run organization. Nothing is going to change until people stop showing up for the games. As far as the Vikings…good luck getting a new stadium boys….and have fun in California in 3 years! The state will never support this team and the owners are smart enough to move it.

  36. By chris barfield on Nov 2, 2010 | Reply

Childress is the one who should be leaving the vikings, not moss, if it wasn’t for the win against dallas he would have been fired then, the owner is making another mistake as usual by letting moss leave, childress is at fault not moss fire his ass already

  37. By fran on Nov 2, 2010 | Reply

I am totally agree with Mike: Fire the coach now, try to salvage Moss from leaving, and let TJ start this weekend so Favre can heal. This is our only hope for salvation

  38. By Mike on Nov 2, 2010 | Reply

I really can not understand why everyone thinks it is Favre’s fault. Who could take the hits he does and still play?. I would have walked off the field last year if I could not have got any better protection in that last game. Interceptions? Did you see the front line. Come on, he is seeing double. Have you seen what he does when he gets time to throw instead of beat up time after time. A heavy weight boxer couldn’t take what he does and still throw. Anything over one sack in a game is a big problem. The front line is the one that is overrated, not Favre. Enough has been said about the coach, just can him and be done with it.

  39. By rick on Nov 2, 2010 | Reply

Has anyone considered the thought that Childress is trying to get himself fired. He can’t resign or he would forfiet his 3 year contract extension at 3 million a year. An extension that was obtained soley on the success that Brett brought the Vikings early last year. I suspect Brad knows he is over his head and is looking for a way out. The Vikings would have a minimum of 2 more wins with a coach that could at least make good in game decisions, such as when to challange plays, or when to kick fieldgoals, etc. They could be undefeated if the coach knew how to call plays, who to play and /or keep on the roster. Childress has lost the players and fans. What is the owner waiting for?

  40. By Brett, St. Paul, MN on Nov 2, 2010 | Reply

FIRE CHILDRESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fan of 43-years I’m done unless he is gone. I will sell my season tickets…kiss that stadium goodbye. He does not know how to manage players, a game, himself. The Viking nations is now (thanks to Childress) the laughing stock of the NFL. Embarrassing , and it comes down to the head coach. He has zero leadership. No game creativity. How about we stop being the mouse of the NFL and fire childress, let Bret be the coach and keep moss. Or how about you keep being a true Vikings owner and trade A.P. and sidney rice to the packers for a 7th round draft pick. Dumb ass

I’ve been a lifelong fan of the Vikings and here is my take from over here in North Central Wyoming……..Fire Childress immediately and promote defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier to interim Head Coach.
The Wilf family needs to take care of their business interests and firing Childress is Step No 1. After that, things should start to fall into place. It may not mean much for this year, but it is a step in the right direction. We are wasting some of the best talent, if not the best talent, in the NFL.

I have re listened to the Moss pressor and have a hard time finding a reason there to cut him. He qualified hyis statements as no disrespect for his teamates as he expected the Vikings to win. He only called the coach out on not kicking the FG ,and not using his knowledge of Patriot tendancies. All he was doing was saying a final goodbye to his former teammates, coach, and owner. It appears that he did not get to do this when he was traded. We could give him this little bit of latitude. I am less forgiving of Moss for his lack of in game effort. He was giving up on plays, or just going threw the motions. I think I know why. Randy has admitted he only plays when he wants to. He was targeted a lot more, even before he and Brett had developed chemistry and were on the same page. But something happened on the way to the game. After only 4 weeks Moss knew that he made a mistake. Childress is no Belinchek. Childress obviously knows the the coach had already lost his team. Randy is the only player with enough guts to say it. Salaries are so large in the NFL that players will stay qiuet to save thier position on the team. Not Moss, and as usually happens in most businesses, the boss fires the employee with enough guts to speak out. Randy will play for a coach who commands respect, not a coach who demands respect. There is a difference. It’s not to late for Ziggy to correct this. Fire Childress today and cancel the decision to waive Moss. If Moss does not turn it around, then do not bring him back next year, but coach should be out of time.

    Mr. Wilf,

It is human nature to take the easy way out and just let the events flow and let Brad Childress waiver Randy Moss and sit back and watch the team and the 2010 year filled with great promise continue its downward slide.

Or do the more difficult things
    – remove the coach (reassign him if you will)
    – hold a team meeting
    – meet with Randy Moss – let him air his gripes, let him know what you, the team and the fans expect of him and let him know that your door is always open to him and that if he has concerns that he needs to discuss them with you – out of respect to you and the team
    – tell Randy to report for practice
    – assign someone from your staff as interim coach – perhaps Frazier
    – hold a press conference

The later option – is more difficult – but I believe you know – what needs doing.

Mr. Bruschi and Mr. Dilfer’s comments on ESPEN made a lot of sense to me – listen to their comments from yesterday.

Mr. Childress disrespected you (I think he knew his postion was indefensible and did a cowardly thing in not talking with you first) and – he is not doing his most fundamental job as a motivator and communicator.

    Sincerely,

Moss is a cancer and should never have been traded for. Why do you think the Pats got rid of him? Farve hasn’t been useful the whole season. Just retire and let T jack go for it. At least he can scramble. Also, where does childress come up with some of the play calling? I just don’t get it sometimes. I might have to where a brown paper sack over my head sunday.

I have been a Viking Fan since 1961. During that time I have gone through the “highs” and “lows” of following the TEAM that I love. This season is definitely one of those “lows” and it is unfortunate that I have to put Childress in the catagory of Les Steckel & Jerry Burns!!!

What is wrong with Zygi and his sons? Can’t they see the the REAL reason for this dismal season rests with the Head Coach. What kind of amateur Offensive Play-Calling don’t they see? It seems to me that Moss has a legitimate gripe with Childress in his play calling AND time management. This year’s team, although suffering from key injuries, still should be close to 7 – 0. I think it is time for a head coach change.

As a lifelong Vikings fan. I have never agreed with bringing Randy Moss back to us in his spoiled little brat ways, yes he( when he wants to be ) is one of the most feared wide receivers that is available today. I can’t say I agree with the coach on all of his calls..Spending 20 million dollars on a 41 year old(sounds a little crazy to me)I understand its Brett Favre, but big deal he had his great year last year and he is done, it’s called getting old, it happens. I guess if the whole works were to be looked at and these decisions were made by Brad Childress, then he is the one that needs to go(sorry Chili) but the truth sometimes hurts. Re-group for next year, resign some of your defense that needs resigned, get a great Quarterback out of college( not a retread like Donovan mcNabb) and let’s kick this pig!

Not to kick a guy when he is down but, Chris Cook appears to be a player that will have constant injuries. He is a good DB, too bad he can not stay healthy. Wish things could have worked out for the Vikes and Randy. Thought he gave up on the pass, should have been a touchdown for sure. Defense looks tired, old and confused. Favre played a sold game, is a great player and competitor. AP is a powerfull runner but, has no vision. Hope they can at least make 8 and 8 this year. Then I believe we will see big changes, hopefully for the good. GO VIKES!!!

I agree that Childress is a poor coach. I thought that last year, and it is even more obvious this season. As far as Moss, I have mixed emotions. I understand that he draws a lot of coverage, just because he can be a threat if he wants to. But after watching him play the last couple of weeks, he was an embarassment. He was jogging through his routes and he totally gave up on the long pass that was called for interference. His comments about New England…..ridiculous! The only reason I say to keep him is that it will give Percy more opportunities to get open and make plays. The whole offense seems different this year. I don’t see the same plays being called. What happened to the play action calls to Shianco? Very little creativity this season. I still think Favre should call the plays. He knows the offense better than Childress and Bevell. Seems like a poor time to Waive Moss, as it just creates more drama in Minnesota. I still believe in this team, even without Moss. Go Vikes!

his efforts on the field have been less than 100 percent
    his presser was disrespectful
But, most troubling was his disrespect for the mom & pop food catering service in which he said “He wouldn’t feed this sh!t to his dog! Right in front of the caterers……..there is no reason to disrespect hard working folks………

Until this team clears itself of the cancer (CHILDRESS) we will never have a chance at anything but wildcard runs. Only reason we did so good last year was because Favre was calling the plays. Now childress calls them and we are 2-5, releasing the WR most Viking fans asked to have brought back (and were lucky enough to get), wasted a 3rd and 7th rd pick and no one in that locker room has respect for childress.

I just watched yesterday’s press conference and took some notes of how stüpid Chilly is, from his own words:

“When you don’t get 7 in the red zone it comes back to haunt you.” NOT NEARLY AS MUCH AS NOT GETTING ANYTHING IN THE RED ZONE YOU BÒNEHEÃD!

“I think we did a pretty good job heeding [Moss's advice on the New England game].” THEN WHY WAS THIS YOUR WORST LOSS YET?

“Do I regret acquiring [Moss]? Not at present I don’t, no.” GOOD ONE CHILLY, YET YOU GO AHEAD AND MAKE IT CLEAR THAT YOU REGRET IT BY CUTTING HIM 12 HOURS LATER!

Chilly’s press conferences show that not only is he horrible at understanding what it takes to win a football game, but that he is also content to straight out lie to the press any time that the truth doesn’t sound like it will make a favorable impression of him. GUESS WHAT? The lies, justification of losses and even Chilly’s straight out NO COMMENTS are hurting him worse than the truth could.

Just one more reason to fire this mõrôn who spends more time waxing his scalp than trying to win a game.

What a disgrace, To lose MOSS, The best receiver in the NFL due to Childress’ pride issues. This is a personal issue where the coach was humilated. I have waited years to see MOSS back in purple and was overjoyed he was back, Cut short by MOSS being himself. Childress you knew what you were getting. A top notch very emotional receiver. I wonder if the Wilf’s are scratching their head at all. They give Brad and front office the OK to go and get Moss. They bring him in for a 3rd round draft pick. He didn’t put up stellar numbers but he did help open up the passing game for other receivers such as percy and now after only 4 weeks he’s gone? Not to mention that they are also stuck paying Moss who won’t b contributing to the team anymore. Now they’ve lost a 3rd(probably a high 3rd) round draft choice and they are stuck paying for him. This move makes a lot of sense. If u don’t like him, just don’t give him much playing time and keep him on the team for at least the remainder of the season….. This move makes no sense…. I was gonna go on a rampage yesterday but i got over it. The rest of u guys should get over it too and just get on with your lives. Sometimes, stupid people do stupid things and you can’t do anything about it.

Do you see all this press you are creating Childress? Guess what? It’s ALL bad press! One of the things you were supposed to do when you came in was to end the bad press like that which was created by the boat party.

Well I’ll gladly take the press that was being created back then over the press you are creating. It’s much worse for the head coach to be creating all the bad press than for the players too. Bad press from the players shows that the coach doesn’t have full control over all of them. Bad press by the coach shows that the coach doesn’t have ANY control over the team whatsoever (except the control that he creates with the power that he doesn’t deserve).

Assuming we win this Sunday, that means we should be 7-1. This is very simple math, because that obviously can be extrapolated to a 14-2 season. So, with Percy hurt, no one knows how bad yet, Rice still healing from surgury we cut a start receiver because he doesn’t like the buffet? And we still have to pay him? Seriously. He’s at least good for taking out a couple of defenders and letting someone else get the ball, presumably someone who can hold onto it.

So I guess our strategy is to let the defenses know that AP is coming, get ready and dare them to stop him. Well, that’s gonna hurt.

  123. By FloridaFan on Nov 2, 2010 | Reply

really it’s all Favres fault? The WR group without sidney had no deep threat. harvin was playing out of position, not to mention everytime he threw to BB it was intercepted or dropped even when the pass was right to him. Receivers running wrong routes and not fighting for the ball. without sullivan the oline couldn’t block anyone. no 3rd down reliable back. favre was getting hammered on every pass play. the defense hasn’t stopped the run, can’t cover the pass and can’t pressure the QB. all that plus ineffective game plans and no in game adjustments. But yes, it’s all Brett’s fault. Tell me this, how come teams, like the saints, redskins, packers, bears, to name a few have as many if not more turnovers and they have winning records? it’s because their defenses don’t allow TD’s when there is a turnover. why, because their coaches know how to adjust their game plan when its not working.

  124. By Bruce on Nov 2, 2010 | Reply

DH, you’re an IDIOT! Favre has not been the problem, Favre has been giving 200% and more than half those turnovers are a result of poor protection, bad blitz pickup, receivers not running routes right, receivers dropping b a l l s and receivers not catching the b a l l s and receivers letting the ball fly through their hands. @Just Win – stop trying to defend Childress. With his play calls, it wouldn’t matter if he started Favre, Jackson or Webb, we wouldn’t have one any more than 3 games this season. And guess what? It is Childress who decides who gets the start, so even IF that were the reason, the blame still falls on the Hairless Blunder. The team is falling apart, offensively and defensively, on the field and in the locker room. That ALL falls on the shoulders of the head coach, first and foremost. Question about the waiver wire: With such a horrible record, do the Vikings get one of the early chances at grabbing Moss during waivers? Also, I don’t know how it works, (when or if there is a last second that we can rescind him from the waiver wire) but is it possible that we are still going to keep him on the team one of these ways?

  143. By Bald Clidress on Nov 2, 2010 | Reply

Get rid of Childress and Farve! WE would still have a 2 – 5 record with Jackson! But, we would have a better opportunity win games, take pressure off the O – line, go deep more often, just put more pressure on the defense! “WE ARE WHAT OUR RECORD SAYS WE ARE!”

Exactly Dave, justwin doesn’t get it. He don’t look at ALL the facts. And no QB in the NFL will have good numbers when they play with bad protection, poor blocking and receivers constantly making mistakes. Brett does make a bad decision once in awhile, but part of it is because he’s trying so hard to win and if all the players were doing that Favre wouldn’t have so much pressure on him.

I agree with everyone about Childress..get rid of him and promote Frazier. There’s a report of an incident, involving Moss, that took place last Friday in the locker room after practice. If true, maybe it’s better Moss go, I hate saying that. As far as on the field, there’s no doubt that the Vikes are better with Moss, even if he’s not giving 100%. If I were Childress I would’ve kept him around for at least the next 4 games and see if the team could get on a roll, once officially out of the playoffs then release him. Another thing is why didn’t Brad try and trade him? Try and get something for him, even if were a lower round draft choice. This whole season has been frustrating, unfortunatly I don’t see any light at the end of this tunnel.

I wish Childress would go instead of Moss. I don’t understand why any team would give away a draft pick for a Hall of Fame player then get rid of him 4 weeks later. Moss has not been the reason for the losses. Its the coaching. I felt life I could predict every offensive play lately. And they got taken out of the game against the PATs when Childress went for it on 4th before the second half. If they had the 3 points from that, they would have still had a chance to tie the game on a final drive. I wish the owner would listen to the fans and fire the guy, and maybe the Vikings can be a team again.

How could the Wilfs’ allow the Moss experiment to be cut short. Never got to see if Rice,Harvin and Moss together would give opposing defenses a lot to prepare for.Unfortunatley, Favre just isn’t healthy enough to step into all his throws,he should heal the ankle for a week or two,so we can have him better for the stretch run.The season isn’t over. The pass rush needs to turn it around,Moss needs to stay put, fire childress. My $260 authentic purple Moss #84 should be arriving any day now, what a disaster

Moss is Moss, everyone knows how he is. Even if the story is true about him blowing up about the food, that was childish yes, but that is Moss. If Childress had control of this team that would have never happened. Moss would have probably kept his mouth shut. However, Childress has never had control of this team and it is showing now. Moss and the rest of the team DO NOT respect Childress and know all he is doing is running this team into the ground. We have one of the most talented teams in the NFL and yet we look horrible. We are tied with the Lions and they SUCK. They do not come anywhere close to the amount of talent we have and yet we have the same record, are you freaking kidding me? The problem is leadership and coaching. We have none! Childress is an idiot and the only thing he is leading is this team into the ground. The Wilf family needs to fire his dumb azz ASAP before this season goes down as truly one of the most embarassing and horrible season in Viking history. How do you go 2-5 when you have the talent that you have on that team? Their offense is so predictable……. “Lets run it 3 times up the gut and then on 3 and 6, what are gonna do… oh yeah now lets pass”. the defense is expecting it all the time. Childress doesnt know how to manage an offense, he doesnt know how to work the clock, he doesnt know how to dicipline his team, he doesnt know how to calm them down. We have struggled to understand this seasons past Vikings decisions:

    1. Why do the Vikings let go a seasoned quarterback and putting the pressure on Farve? He was prone for injuries and Tarvaris Jackson was and is a huge question mark on that quarterback position not just as a back-up, but building with him long term?

    2. We miss Randy Moss. A coach is supposed to coach. Not sit there and act afraid of Moss celebrity status. If he quits on a play…you coach that out of him or bench him. If it’s his remarks, than have a team strategy with a team unification meeting. A coach is to coach and rein in their players best talents. Not just cut and dismiss the player and give up the team’s player money and draft choices for nothing. The ownership was not to happy with the dismiss. And we don’t blame our owner on this issue. He committed to win.

    3. The most baffling— A coach is suppose to be able to handle the press situations. With that being said, not more than a half hour or so after the press conference from coach Childress, Randy Moss was cut from the Vikings. But yet, in the press conference no mention of it, and no inclination whatsoever from the coach.

    4. The written Press release. Poorly handled. But, I guess it’s perfectly fine to do that after an official press conference? lol

Randy Moss: We will miss you! Don’t give up…and don’t ever give up on plays. Professional players don’t quit on their TEAM-MATES. Look at the interference video on your play of 10-31-2010 That’s why you were cut from the Vikings TEAM. Don’t quit on plays or your TEAM-MATES. Explain that video?

We miss you, and best wishes!

Every Friday, the Vikings invite a local establishment to cater the team’s post-practice meal. Last Friday, it was a St. Paul restaurant — a favorite of former Vikings center Matt Birk — that served chicken, pasta, ribs and other dishes

While his teammates lined up to dig in, Moss lashed out, according to the report.

Moss yelled “What the [expletive]? Who ordered this c r a p? I wouldn’t feed this to my dog,” a player who witnessed the incident said, according to Yahoo! Sports.

WHAT AN A S S H O L E!!! The people that catered the food and that restaurant didn’t need to be treated that way.

Randy Moss’ classless actions at a recent Minnesota Vikings’ locker-room buffet had to have embarrassed the team, which this week dumped the controversial wide receiver.

Tinucci’s Restaurant and Catering, which operates out of Newport and Woodbury and has been in business since 1958, hosted a buffet for Vikings players Friday afternoon.

“We had the whole buffet set up, and we had a nice spread — chicken, ribs, round of beef with a carving station, the whole deal,” Tinucci’s co-owner Gus Tinucci said today. “(Moss) he comes in, and I’m helping one of the guys and didn’t look up, and all of a sudden I heard, ‘What the (expletive) is this? I wouldn’t feed this (expletive expletive) to my (expletive) dog!’ And he’s screaming it at the top of his lungs.

“He never even came through the line. He walked up towards it, looked at it, made the big stink and walked away. He didn’t eat.”

Tinucci said the locker room, filled with players, got quiet.

“Nobody said anything except for one (player) who said, ‘Shut the (expletive) up, Randy,’ ” he said.

“If (Brett) Favre would have had a ball, he would have beaned him right in the head. Favre looked at him like, ‘Are you kidding me?’ ”

Tinucci said nobody on coach Brad Childress’ staff was there. Tinucci said one Vikings locker room attendant in charge of the luncheon apologized to him.

“He said, ‘Don’t worry about it, Gus, he’s an (expletive). He’s done this every time we’ve had food.’ ”

Childress MUST have pictures of Wilf in an unflattering position. Why else would an unqualified offensive coordinator who didn’t even call plays be hired. Then to keep him through years of incompetence. The Vikings have had more talent than any team in the league, only to be ruined by lack of leadership. If the twelve men in the huddle didn’t give it away, then the lack of heart on 4th and goal on numerous occasions should!!! Wake up Wilf!!!

Tinucci said the other Vikings players “absolutely loved” the spread.
“They were coming up and thanking me, and I don’t know if that was because of what happened prior, but they did,” he said. “It was quite an interesting afternoon, to say the least.”

Gus’ brother and partner in the family business, John, wasn’t there, but asked Gus if he had responded to Moss’ actions.

“What was I going to say?” Gus said. “I’m not going to make a stink; they’re our customer.”

Tinucci said he’s confident the Moss-less Vikings will invited him back.

“The guys who hired us really liked us,” he said.

If the owner does not remove Childress and do everything else that might make sense (as we fans have been urging the management to do) – then,
    don’t waive Randy Moss.

Let Randy Moss sit for a a couple of weeks.
We have to pay him anyway.

    Let’s see what develops.
Maybe he will be content with not playing.
Maybe he will ask to return.
Maybe another team will make an offer.

What do we have to lose – only a roster spot?

Don’t criticize the coach, some of the players said Moss brought down morale in the locker room with smart ass remarks and Childress did what he had to do and the players support it totally, Moss always had a big mouth, something the Vikings don’t need at this point nor in the future. I’ve been a life-long Vikes fan, and has been a sore point for me the last 5 years for getting rid of Randy Moss for Napoleon Harris and the eventual Troy Williamson pick.

Mad enough to want to cut him from the team but i probably wouldn’t have. I probably would’ve had a nice long talk about it with him. Then if i was still upset, i would’ve just benched him for the remainder of the season as punishment. I’m kind of having second thoughts now about Moss being waived. It probably was a good thing but a little to early to do so. Childress should’ve waited until the season was over. Still childress made the decision to bring him in and gave up a lot for him. 335. By NDPurple on Nov 2, 2010 | Reply

Gee-I wonder if Chilly has had player problems before. Let’s see-T.O. spoke up about how pathetic the Philly offense was; in the 1st Childress year here some of the veterans spoke up about how the team was run (Marcus Robinson, anyone?) and got cut, and now Moss speaks up. While Moss’s rant was inexcusable, it is correct. Chilly cannot handle hearing the truh-that he is a P.O.S. coach who can’t deal with people and cannot lead. Both he and Moss should be gone. Give Bienamy the HC job-he’s not afraid to get in a player’s face if they mess up. He would have no voice left now-the way this season is going, but at least the players would know what is up. The players have no hunger anymore-they just look to be going through the motions.

I agree, this was a terrible move by an bad coach. Childress will be fired at the end of the year. Or at least he should be. The Vikings were not going to renew Moss’s contract next year anyway so Wilf would not bring him back this year. Maybe if Moss had more then half a season left on his current contract Wilf would have fired Chilly and kept Moss but as it is they are losing just half a year on Moss. If you fire Childress now you are really giving up on the season. As long as there is a chance left they will keep the coach in place. As soon as the Vikings are mathmatically eliminated you will see Childress gone. Mark my words we will have a new coach next year. One year too late.

Let’s get him OUT of coaching, away from the Vikings, get Moss back and get someone who actually knows how to coach, lead a team and build some cohesiveness. We have the best team in the league, what we need is a coach. Threatening the team with firings is destructive to any team spirit. GET RID of CHILDRESS.

xvike – Do you ever wonder why Cris Carter never got a ring? It’s because great players often aren’t in the right place for their career. PurpleParody i don’t think u understand what i was saying. Is brad dumb for cutting moss? yes he is. Was it a bad decision to cut moss? It was a bad decision to even bring him here because we still lost the games we wanted to win anyway thanks to childress. Dallas was an automatic W for us with or without him. I agree with a lot of people in here that moss should have stayed. I’m just saying that i can understand why Brad decided to waive him and i agree with his reason for doing so, just not at this point in time. And yes i agree Childress needs to be fired. You get my point now? and that comparison u made does not even compare. Moss was in the right place. The year when NE punished almost every one and went 16-0 into the post season and lost to the lowly Giants. B4 his arrival, Brady and crew won 3 superbowls. So if Moss was such a great player and you add him to an already impressive patriots team, how do u not win a superbowl? Unless you are saying that everytime a team wins the superbowl it is by chance…… because everyone was at the right place…..

  434. By Just Win on Nov 2, 2010 | Reply

It’s quite obvious that most of you have never had to manage 53 people. If you did, you would realize that Chilly is not the problem. He’s calling the same plays that got him to 10 wins 2 years ago. You can’t be an idiot coach and get to 10 wins with T-Jack/Ferrotte as QB, no Percy Harvin and with an injury prone Sidney. Likewise he can’t be an idiot to get 12 wins last year.

What’s wrong this year is the execution. Chily’s NOT the one that’s throwing the bone-headed “Pick-6″ interceptions and fumbling when the opponent doesn’t even make contact (e.g. Favre). He’s using the same defensive coordinator and obviously Chilly is not playing on the highly priced defensive line that can’t make a franchise record sack over 3 games.

These are grown men that don’t need a “Rah Rah” speech from Chilly. Losing millions in salary should be enough motivation and if it’s not, then obviously the player has lost his physical skills and should be cut or traded.

The greatest single non-performer has been Favre. You can’t have it both ways (i.e. Give him all the credit last year but not shoulder all the blame this year). It’s FACTS! A QB rating of 69 will lose you most games. DUH…THAT’S WHY THEY ARE 2-5 and NOT 5-2.

Chilly doesn’t even prepare the players for each game and it really shows on the field. look at his over-all record, below average with great pro-bowl players in 2 of the 4 years. Brett was calling most of the plays last year, thats why we won and why Farve had a fall-out with Chilly. look how bad were doing this year with Chilly calling the players. Chilly has no team leadership skills and has totality lost the locker room. the players just don’t like him and i don’t blame them !!!!!!!!!!

Childress is a egomaniac and a control freak who has no feel for running an offense or putting a solid gameplan together. He needs to go and he needs to go now.

He gets called out for saying things like we need to lower the pad level, or clean things up, correct out mistakes. He never gives out any information that amounts to anything. Packer fans hate him. But this Childress guy blames his players week in and out, now. What if AP has a bad game and fumbles like he did in Championship game against Saints? will he be next? Harvin has turned two pass completetions into game chenging INT’s. One more time will be be called out? Childress has personally lost 2 games, but I don’t see him taking any blame?

Walker was released September 4th, 2010 before the regular season opener.

I agree with whoever said Rice should have had surgery in the offseason, that’s the one thing that we were missing at the start of the season, that too has to fall on Chili as he should have insisted he have off season surgery rather than wait for training camp.

Purplediety… you gotta either be high or yankin our chain… Childress is kind of a genius? At what? It sure isn’t managing a football team, that’s for sure.

Its 20/20 hindsight on the surgery date on Rice. Some said he needed surgery, some said he could rehab it. He elected to rehab and I can’t say that I blame him from wanting to stay out from under the knife. Obviously it didn’t work, but it was his call.

    So lets take stock…

We have a top tier slot guy in Harvin, and a decent slot guy in Camarillo. Harvin is too short to be a real good edge guy, and Camarillo is too slow.

We have a deep threat with blocks of cement growing from his wrists in place of hands in Berrian. Oh, a deep threat that refuses to alter his route to catch a ball. (Weren’t some of you getting on Moss for that? I hope to hear the same guys blasting Berrian for it instead of the QB in the games to come.)

We have the Philly rejects in Lewis and Baskett… the guys that everyone said McNabb needed replacements for if they were ever going to be a successful passing team. Both B team players at best.

Our right tackle couldn’t stop my gramma from tackling Favre, and she’s dead, lord rest her soul.

Our QB looks like he may meet my gramma before end of season at the rate he is getting hit and broken.

Yeah, Purplediety…. we are on our way to Dallas…..

This is a challenge to Bernard Berrian. You were raised in a military family that was morning, noon, and night, accountability and country before even family. I know you still have the speed. Do you have the desire? You aren’t in the Air Force like Dad, but the country you need to fight for now is Viking nation. We could all be singing your praises very easily Sunday night and all next week. Remember what it felt like to get that first game check. You get a much larger one now, but how do you feel about it? Do you feel week to week you’ve earned every cent? You can still make up for it. We need you now!

Hopefully Childress days are numbered in Minnesoa with this move. One thing is for sure he has lost all credibility with his players and most of the Vikings fans. I guess this will make it easier for the Wilf’s to move the team to L.A. and it may well be that this is all part of the plan in the grand scheme of things since the Wilf’s have been met with so much resistance in trying to get a new stadium built that they maybe devising a plan to exit Minnesota which would be a huge disappointment to me as a Viking fan even though it would be much easier for myself to attend games in person living in Arizona would make a much shorter commute. However with that being said it would be just plain wrong for this team to play anywhere else but in Minnesota and as a true Viking fan I know this in my heart so please Mr. Wilf keep the team in Minnesota and Fire Brad Childress!

Vlad19 you are right on!!! Our pass route schemes are lame and outdated. Our blocking schemes are too predictable, and even our blitz strategy is almost non-existant. Did you watch the blitzing in that Steelers/Saints game? That’s modern NFL football. We rarely send a fifth or sixth pass-rusher and still can’t cover the receivers. If you vary your blitzes constantly, You only have to cover those receivers for about two seconds.

BE SANE & SERIOUS – Yours is a very weak argument. Results speak volumes about a persons skills. Right now Childress has lost 5/7 games with essentially the same players he had last year. Childress has also made many poor decisions leading up to the most recent one of letting Moss go. If he is such a great Coach, then pray-tell, why does he make so many mistakes so frequently?

We aren’t begging to take over his job, we’re all simply begging for Zigi to find someone who can take over his job, because there are plenty of qualified candidates out there who can easily do better than the mistake ridden Childress.

Offensive coordinator for the Eagles. C’mon man. He did not even call the plays and all they did was have McNabb scramble and get the ball to Westbrook. His players do not respect him. The fans do not respect him. The NFL does not respect him. The media does not respect him. He is not a leader.
You will NOT win with him as the coach. Promote a defensive coordinator before they go to another team and win a Superbowl……….

yeah, we are sick and tired of seeing that short, small, ugly, bald headed freak on the sidelines, losing games that would of been won with a better coach. we had a shot at going to the playoffs with moss, now we have a bigger shot of not getting a stadium and losing the team for good. thanks Chilly !

Everyone who’s blaming Childress for the Moss fiasco…WAKE UP!
Randy Moss got an inside look at the current Viking organization and wanted out.
I agree that Chilly is a horrible coach – his play calling is among the worst, and he has no clue how to use AP effectively. But he does not sign the players’ checks, so he did not make the final decision to bring Moss back.
He was, however, smart enough to realize that Moss wanted out and was going to use the media to state his case is a very Randy Moss fasion. So he say Bye Bye Moss.
There’s enough drama with the Vikings without having an extremely high profile player creating a stink at every opportunity.
Should Childress be fired? Probably. But not because of this Moss thing. Randy Moss is a talented turd, but he’s not worth the stink he creates.

Moss was being an a$$hole to everyone-I think he wanted out after seeing what childress was all about

In sports like other organizations you MUST respect the chain of command. Two years agos the Falcons had a team where a “posse” of 4 players started to rule the team. The team removed those 4, then hired Mike Smith and they are now a respected force in the NFC South. Whether your like Chilly or not you can’t let the inmates rule the asylum.

Hey “Fire Childress”, you’ll love this article, check it out…

“BE SANE & SERIOUS”, come on now man, there’s now way you can claim he’s a great coach, they won last year because Favre had the best year of his career, Sidney Rice, Percy, AP, and the D (coached by Frazier) went off. Also, attacking “Fire Childress” with the argument that Chilly is more prepared to be a head coach than “Fire Childress” is weak, he’s not saying replace Chilly with himself, he’s saying replace Chilly with a Gruden or the like which any SANE person could see would be an upgrade.

Fred, how many of these players do you think will stick around next year if Chilly is head coach. not many !!!!! why are we 2-5 if all these players are playing so good? chilly will be gone before the year ends period

    Has Childress been fired yet?

  685. By Vikes Phan on Nov 3, 2010 | Reply

    Hey Zigy,

Here’s the simple solution for your complex problem:
Next offensive play vs Cardinals – 5 wide receivers bunch right, naked boot-leg left.
Following play – give childress a helmet an be QB – run the same play to the right.
Then it will be 3rd and 25. we wont have favre or childress left, the score will be 0-0
and we may make the 1st down and actually have a chance to win a game.

I am sure that LA will welcome the Vikings, just like they welcomed the Lakers.

    What are you smoking????

  688. By MTVike on Nov 3, 2010 | Reply

Please Understand that Moss wanted out because he could see that Childress was no better than Tice. No imagination, No ba!!5, No idea of what it takes to win! Randy only has a few years left. He doesn’t want to waste them on a team with no direction.

I have decided to wear ALL BLACK, instead of Purple-Gold & White during ALL Vikings Game until Childress is FIRED!!! You have the best Head-Coach on your team right now……. Leslie Frazier….Zigi, why are you waiting????

My top advice this year is: Don’t go for the obvious and don’t make
false economies. All you need to make a dream catcher is yarn, and some basic circular pieces of wood or metal.

Gifts for Libra – It is recommended to buy something you know they like, as Libras do not know how
    to fake their reactions.
