Some Friday Fun Facts

Posted by Mike Wobschall on October 29, 2010 – 9:25 am

While we’re waiting for Friday’s practice to begin and then for head coach Brad Childress to address the media around 1:00 p.m. CT, let’s go over a few Friday Fun Facts…

– The Vikings-Patriots game will be Minnesota’s 9th consecutive road game (including playoff s) that hasn’t started at noon. The last time the Vikings played a noon road game was on 10/25/09 at Pittsburgh. Since then, the Vikings have played at Green Bay, Arizona, Carolina, Chicago, New Orleans (playoff s), New Orleans, New York and Green Bay – all of which were either night or late afternoon games.

– DE Jared Allen intercepted his 3rd career pass last week against Green Bay and his 2nd as a Viking, tying him for 3rd in team history among defensive linemen.

– QB Brett Favre started his 119th (90-29) game at Lambeau Field last week, breaking the NFL record for the most starts in a stadium. Favre was previously tied with John Elway at 118.

– WR/KR Percy Harvin scored his first career rushing TD at Lambeau last week. He became only the 5th player in team history to score 3 different ways in a season (one rush, three pass and one kickoff return), and the first since 2005.

– RB Adrian Peterson broke his own team record for most rushing yards through the first 6 games of any season (684; was 670). He is the first Vikings player to reach 600 yards 3 times after Game #6.

– DT Pat Williams is the oldest active defensive player in the NFL (turned 38 on 10/24/10).

chilly presser<<<<>>><well….um….. going up against a hall of fame coach…so i'm out we will need the players to step up a notch i guess….if we lose, we can call this a rebuilding year and throw the rest of the games for a overall 1st pick in the draft next year…hopefully this won't cause us to lose out our stadium bid and have the team move to LA…

Our problem is- team- execution of the game plan, execute- everyone do your job, coaches and players-and i believe we can get on the right track sunday,,, it just seems that in our losses we just come up a bit short, no one is kicking or butt.
Let’s just get all the wheel’s on and turn it up a notch on the pats !!!!!!

Naw…Tarvaris needs to start. He’s been taking all of the first team reps the entire week and he’s fully healthy. He’s well rehearsed for this game whereas favre is gonna go out there in pain just trying to make plays because he hasnt practiced all week which will cause us to see those picks. I hope brad does his job..

Just finished watching Childress’s presser..the man is an arrogant a hole. He acts as if he is blessing us with his pressense. He needs to move on. The man is a mental midget with his offensive calls.

That “presser” that just got done(1:23pm) showed that chilly has lost it! His contempt towards the media should not be accepted by the front office. Just give him his walking papers and be done with it.

brett favre is clearly the reason why were doing so bad, our defense had given him plenty chances to put points on the board he just turns the ball over then the d get worn out but we all should’ve expected that from favre, other then superbowl rings and appearances he holds every record as a qb the good ones and the bad ones but he also been starting for 20 years so the stats will come.

@mike…tell me you really don’t believe what you just said! You don’t think the play calling and the use of our weapons had something to do with it?? You don’t think the use of the play clock factored into anything?? The choices made in the “redzone” have not been questionable?? I am guessing that you are a fan of the game….your post sounds like a rehash of chilly’s presser after the gb game..WOW!!

And i agree, the chilly pressers are just annoying now. He acts like we dont have a right to know anything about the team. Maybe if he would start winning games we wouldnt have so many questions!

@Maggie….I agree, Zygi is just waiting for an excuse to move to LA…new stadium, new coach, the fans will follow….much like the Colts fans did when they moved.

  33. By Bruce on Oct 29, 2010 | Reply

Cash, Favre didn’t come back for money. The guy has more money than he knows what to do with. A couple of years ago the Packers offered him $20 Million just to retire and he turned it down. Favre doesn’t own yachts or houses in Europe. He doesn’t even wear expensive clothes. He spends most his money on gas for his tractors and chainsaws. Favre came back because he wanted to help his team members win a Championship. That is the ONLY reason he came back.

Cash, you don’t even know Favre at all. When he was with the Packers, he restructured his contract a few times for the Packers to meet the cap. NOT ONLY THAT, he is the only player in NFL history to offer part of his salary to bring in another player and help pay his salary. Guess who that player was?

  44. By Cash on Oct 29, 2010 | Reply

Brett ain’t the only one to do that. well maybe to bring someone in. But many high paid players have re-done their contracts to keep guys. Manning, Aikman are two that come to mind.

  45. By Cash on Oct 29, 2010 | Reply

And you’re right….I don’t know Favre…never liked him when he was at green bay, or the jets. Waffler who needs attention. His time has passed, it’s time to move on.

Wonder how many training camps Joe Montana, Troy Aikman, Peyton manning, Terry Bradshaw, even Warren Moon…how many of those QBs skipped training camp? Jerry Rice? Did he? No….they unlike favre were Team players

  47. By fire childress on Oct 29, 2010 | Reply

it all comes down to bad coaching. if we had a decent coach we would be AT LEAST 4-2 now

I think the Vikings are only around to help other teams. Trade for walker…Dallas becomes a dynasty. Trade for Moss…you keep the patriots with good draft picks to build on an already good team. It’s time to get rid of Chilly….too many distractions.

I have read most of the comments this week – and those bashing Brett and attributing all sorts of motivations; well, I feel your frustration – but I have little patience for that sort of fair weather support.

Are people so jaded that they don’t recognize when someone speaks with honesty and from the heart? Listen to Brett’s conferences – he wants to win – the only reason he came back.

That drive from their own 17 yard line at the end of the game – exemplified his leadership and determination – it also suggests that they need more of that open creative style of play – and a go for it attitude in their game planning.

Along with the rest of you,I am losing faith in the coach – it would appear it is up to the players – to stay together – and make something of the season, starting with a resolve on Sunday – to find a way to walk off the field with a win.

  57. By Bruce on Oct 29, 2010 | Reply

That’s what I love about Favre. He plays with such great heart and determination. Yes, sometimes he throws a throw into tight coverage which he shouldn’t have done, but so do many other quarterbacks. The thing you can count on with Brett is that he loves the game as much as he did when he was playing for hid Dad 30 years ago and he will give you EVERYTHING he has got to give to try and help the team win.

  58. By Tony on Oct 29, 2010 | Reply

Favre wants to win bottom line!!! Childress wants to survive, 12 men on the field lost the NFC championship game, running out the clock at halftime of the Packer game shows complete ignorance of the game, all teams game plan the first two series of the game and look at the results we always fall behind which also shows lack of leadership with Childress. Any other coach with the talent the Wilfs had bought would not be 2-4 and now 2-5 as Belecheck will outcoach the idiot. I hope I am wrong on the last statement

  59. By jjj on Oct 29, 2010 | Reply

Think for a moment – what if the coach in his press conference after the game would have acknowleded the courage Brett had in finishing the game and almost taking the team to victory. “That is the courage and determination we need to rally around as a team. He could barely walk after the game yet was out there at the end of the game trying to give us a chance to win.” What words like that might have meant – think of the completly different tone it would have set for the team and for this up coming week.

Think what if might have meant for the team morale for the rest of the season, for the respect of his players, and for us as fans, and for the respect he may have garnered from all the coaches around the league – it was a coaching momment that he lost, that he threw away…

fire childress: apparently the majority of fans, sports experts, and media are all wrong. mike w. is right. i guess his 38-32 overall record for 4 plus seasons just screams coaching genius. to those who say it’s a winning record well so is 9-6 but that usually doesn’t get you a championship or in the playoffs for that matter and i don’t think his losing is done this year. bottom line he is not a horrible coach but he certainly isn’t a good coach by any stretch. it all depends on personal preference though, if you like a nice dull you to sleep game plan well i suppose chilly is a genius. i mean if most fans can guess what the play is going to be (and we don’t watch hours of film) don’t you think the def has a good idea of what it is. chilly’s game plan: run, run, p-ass, punt; p-ass, p-ass, run, punt. awesome.

Keeping quiet has cost Randy Moss US$25,000.

The NFL fined the Minnesota Vikings’ star wide receiver on Friday for failing to co-operate with the news media. Players’ contracts specify they must make themselves available to the media at specific times each week. Moss last spoke to the media on Oct. 13, then declined interviews after a win over Dallas on Oct. 17, throughout last week leading up to a loss at Green Bay, and after the defeat.

Moss also declined to be available this week despite being in high demand because the Vikings visit New England, for whom Moss played the past three seasons.

The Patriots traded him to Minnesota earlier this month.

Teammate tackle Phil Loadholt was fined $20,000 for a facemask against Green Bay linebacker Clay Matthews last Sunday night. Loadholt drew a 15-yard penalty.

On Sept. 17, Loadholt was docked $10,000 for twice grabbing a Saints player’s face mask.

Earlier this week, Minnesota coach Brad Childress was fined $35,000 for criticism of league officiating. Childress was hit “for violating long-standing league policies that prohibit public criticism of officiating and the disclosure of confidential conversations with the head of the NFL officiating department.”

[[[[[[[[We still have yet to find out about any fine that Favre may have to pay.]]]]]]]]]]]

At this point, it does not seem Favre will face a fine.

Brett is done for his cinderella year last year is what he should have went out on. We would be 4 and 2 with T Jack as the QB if not better. Farve has given the ball away 14 time for 51 points and has scored 49 himself. AP has done nothing but cover up this guys complete inhability to give up a game he USED to be good at.
