Sullivan May Start; Abudllah To Be Held Out

Posted by Mike Wobschall on October 22, 2010 – 12:29 pm

We’ll know more when Friday’s injury report is released and we’ll know definitively 90 minutes prior to kickoff when inactives are announced, but for the time being it appears starting C John Sullivan has a shot to be in the starting lineup for the Vikings on Sunday night.

Sullivan, who has been dealing with a calf injury since training camp, played and started in the Vikings first 3 games of the season but was injured on the first play of the Lions game and has not been in the lineup since. He was active last week against the Cowboys, but he didn’t start and didn’t enter the game.

Vikings Head Coach Brad Childress indicated after practice on Friday that Sullivan may find his way back to the starting lineup on Sunday night, saying the 3rd-year player will “most probably” be the starter. Both Sullivan and Jon Cooper have taken reps with the 1st team during practice, so either player will be prepared to play against Green Bay.

S Husain Abdullah won’t be in the lineup on Sunday, though. Childress said Abdullah has made progress during the week after sustaining a concussion against Dallas, but not to the point where he’ll be cleared to play. Either Tyrell Johnson or Jamarca Sanford will get the nod in place of Abdullah, but it’s likely both players will find the field; Sanford came in last week when Abdullah went out.

We’ll have more news on injured players later this afternoon when the injury reports are issued.

Hopefully they both find the field at the same time, and Madieu Williams finds the bench. You will see him miss atleast 3-4 tackles a game, and be out of place in the passing game. WASTE OF MONEY!!!

I totally agree. We needed help in our secondary, we trade our 1st pick to the Lions, we take a running back with our 2nd pick. Chilly is a wizard!!!!

Mr. WIlf, please get us another humongous offensive lineman and another cornerback/special team specialist!

I am still floored that they have not activated Safety Colt Anderson from the practice squad. He’s a star waiting to happen, and with our current Safety situation, why not give the guy a chance? He had a great preseason and looked better then Tyrell and Williams.

colt anderson isn’t on the vikings practice squad anymore. right now I believe he is with the colts

they are working Percey in as a punt returner, what will help out special teams quite a bit

to be fair TW, we moved down 2 spots, and no one thought Cedric Griffin was going to tear his OTHER ACL. It was the injury to Rice and the trade that we made for WR that killed the secondary, that and Chris Cook also having knee problems

Skol Vikings- First of all I feel bad for Cedric who put in alot of effort into returning to the field. The secondary has needed help for awhile. Madieu is horrible at safety. Winfield is getting older but had solid tackling game against Dallas. We should have taken Taylor Mays from USC whois known for producing hard-hitting safeties. Joey Browner,Ronnie Lott,Dennis Smith,Mark Carrier, etc. The free agent market had some quality DBs available and we did nothing. When our D-line does not get pressure, we get picked apart by anybody that can throw a football.

can’t blame chilly for draft picks dude. hes not the gm. and if i were you id be grateful to our gm who got us players such as adrian peterson, percy harvin, and chris cook. but hey thats just me

Chris Cook? Thats right, he leads the PUP league in INTs.

It’s a testament to Leslie Frazier that our secondary is terrible and injury-plagued and we still have a dominant defense. Obviously no one expected Grif to go down with the other ACL. He looked good while he was back too. And Cook looks good when he does in fact make it to the field–I just hope it’s sooner rather than later. As for now Asher Allen can make some mistakes because he is so quick.

Hate Madieu, love the way Abdullah is playing though. I really wish we could get a tandem of Abdullah and Sanford back there at Safety.

What is the deal with the constant injuries? Lack of physical conditioning? Bad Luck? Curse? WTH?????

Madieu Williams has done NOTHING since his BIG free agent signing. This guy is BEYOND a joke, he’s a wuss. NO HEART in a MAN’S game. With him on the bench, a dramatic, instant change will occur. He should know when his contract expires, he WILL NOT be re-signed. He should know this, everyone else does. Also, I see Bernard Berrian as a threat as the punt returner. Let’s see this so called SPEED displayed. He too will be gone when, if not before, his contract expires. TWO DUDS as BIG TIME Free Agent signings. Speilman, I have very, very serious doubt about your knowledge of TALENT. Toby Gerhert, GIVE ME A BREAK. You should re-sign Ian Johnson, he’s better than anything behind Peterson presently.

Has Madieu ever had a pick as a VIKING? Should have taken Taylor Mays, USC. Joey Browner could play better at his age than what we have.

What about Jared this year???? he is on pace for 4 sacks at most if he continues at his current pace……..

  19. By TWVIKE on Oct 23, 2010 | Reply

Jared is getting alot of attention in double teams. Thats still no excuse but that in the same token should free someone up. I do not know what is wrong. The Williams Wall is getting older. Maybe Jared is getting p@$$y whipped.

Don’ t be to quick to judge Toby Gerhart based on a couple of games, Madieu Williams I will agree for the money he has not produce. That being said I still believe that Toby Gerhart will be a beast to contend with, he just needs more reps. as the season goes on he will be a factor in the running game. He is just a rookie and hasn’t really had enough playing time to consider him to be a bust yet like Madieu has no excuse for his play being an NFL veteran.
