Thursday Injury Report; Favre Practices

Posted by Mike Wobschall on October 14, 2010 – 2:23 pm

The Vikings and Cowboys have issued their Thursday injury reports and there’s some good news for the Vikings. After sitting out of practice on Wednesday, QB Brett Favre (ankle/right elbow), S Jamarca Sanford (back) and C John Sullivan (calf) all practiced on a limited basis.

Outside of those 3, there were no other changes to the Vikings injury report.

The Cowboys had a few changes as well, including the addition of C Andre Gurode (knee); he did not practice on Thursday. Other changes included S Alan Ball (shoulder), LB Brady James (knee) and DE Igor Olshansky (knee) all practicing on a limited basis after sitting out on Wednesday. WR Dez Bryant (ribs/ankle) and FB Chris Gronkowski (groin) did not participate.

Maybe Favre should split the game up with Jackson, give him a little break or have him sit out the entire game for the matchup with Dallas, they need to come out blasting in the first quarter and never come from behind, we need to change things up a bit, the oline has to protect a little better also.maybe spread the ball around like last year. good luck vikes!

Im starting to not like People who post on this wall. I keep hearing ” I support the team” But Chilly sucks Favre Sucks etc. The players make up the team. These players for the time being are the team. Your not supporting the team if your not supporting the players and the coaches. Sure you can disagree with them but if your trash talking them your trash talking the team.

  8. By evalu8er on Oct 14, 2010 | Reply

Yes, we need to support the team. They obviously did a lot right last year. they have key receiver and o-linemen out this year, let them adjust. Real fans don’t fire anyone after four games. Go to a packer website if you want to bad mouth the Vikings–they do a great job but I hope you like obscenities.

I have good faith in the players, but Childress hasnt done anything special except throw the ball when we shouldn’t, and we all know he calls the plays right? Bevell does the same thing Childress did when Childress was with the Eagles. Put the game plan together… We have the best running back in the league, bet we dont run screens against the Jets, we dont constantly run to the left until they stop it, and we throw deep all the time? The game is won in the trenches not the deep ball, and hold some accountability to these players. You dont do your job your done playing today… Simple as that. Mckinney, wouldnt play until he can block something other than oxygen!

I believe that it is up to everyone to make sure the vikings win their games. Think about it there is the team, the coaching, and us the fans. The fans are a big part of our team winning their games. If we make it loud at the games then it will be harder for the opposing team to concentrate and make plays. Look at the difference from last year and this year, the fans are not as loud as they were last year at the home games. So pretty much to all the people hating on the team, players, or coaches shut your mouth except for when you are at the games then make some noise. Noise helps win games!!!!!!

Vikings need to keep it together, in their hearts and in their minds. So do the fans. Brett, you are our Viking Warrior!!! I would really love to see the streak go to 300! Let us all pray for the health of our team.

Farve is a great player , although a bit of a drama queen, & I wanted him back since Tavares Jackson is not the answer & never will be, but Brett has to stop breaking the team’s back with the turnovers. Give Joe Webb a shot if need be. How many first halves did they score squat in this this year ? I The personal behavior & apparent infidelity attempts in Jersey are a disgrace–if true . Defense has played outstanding in every game. Gotta win 4-5 games in a row to have a chance @ all. Never did like Childress & still don’t. Tired of waiting for Super Bowl win since 1970.

  15. By Robins on Oct 14, 2010 | Reply

We need to start start strong and stay ahead. Brett, I hope your elbow will be better. Play like you guys did in the fourth quarter. You still have the magic. Sack Tony and intercept him. Beat the Cowboys! Protect Brett. Adrian, run strong! Randy, get more touchdowns from Brett! Percy, you look great again! Stay healthy! Beat them and win the rest of your games!

Thanks for stepping up and saying what you said Kurt. We as fans can make an extradinary impact on our team. how many can relate to when they get good feedback about something they did vs. negative, critisizing, etc.. I for one respond better knowing that people believe in me; this holds true for the players, coaches and owners. lets make a “noise” of support on Sunday vs. Dallas and support the Vikes!

  17. By Bruce on Oct 14, 2010 | Reply

The key to winning is play calling. That second half play calling was changed up and the results was obvious. They need to stick with that play calling from now on.

  18. By Stephanie on Oct 14, 2010 | Reply

Kurt, couldn’t agree more. I’m a realist, but I’m tired of all the critisism. one thing I’ve noticed from people posting is that everyone has their own opinion and they all think they know best. you know how many conflicting opinions I’ve read about what the coaches should have done, what the players should have done? we all think we know best. and while some people make some good points the truth is the Vikings have been in all the games they’ve lost. they haven’t been blown away. injuries and inconsistencies at different positions have set the Vikings back, but I really think they can turn it around. Randy Moss is a HUGE help since Sidney is out. imagine when Sidney get’s back in.

The bad mouthing needs to stop, I know we have some issues right now but we don’t need to keep harping the way we are. Right now this team needs some support! We have talent, no question!! Somethings are going to change during this Cowboy game. We need to probably be more of a passing team, obvious give AP the carries he deserves but we need to be slightly more of a passing team. Anyway like some have said, lets make some noise for this cowboys game!!!! Go Vikes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  20. By Viking-ology on Oct 14, 2010 | Reply

One way or another the Vikes meed to force more turnovers, we simply are not getting extra chances at scoring. We are also giving it up at the worst possible times. The Jets game is a perfect example. One less turnover on our part, and only one forced turnover by the Jets and we very well win that game. We had our chances (INT’s) but could not convert.

DON’T FOR A SINGLE MOMENT BELIEVE THAT DALLAS HAS FORGOTTEN ABOUT OUR “RUNNING UP THE SCORE” ON THEM LAST YEAR. BROOKING HAD A CONNIPTION FIT & ALMOST POOPED ON THE FIELD !

THE O-LINE AND BACKS HAD BETTER KEEP BRET STANDING BECAUSE WITHOUT BRET ON THE FIELD “THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES” AND OUR TEAM WILL BE EXPOSED.

AS I’VE STATED, I’M VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH OUR COACHES TO THIS POINT. THE ONLY EXCEPTION IS LESLIE – HIS DEFENSE JUST NEEDS THE OFFENSE TO GIVE THEM A BREAK MORE OFTEN. WE’VE BEEN DEALT A HARSH BLOW WITH CEDRIC – ALL THE BEST TO YOU & YOUR FAMILY CEDRIC- AND BOY WILL I BE HAPPY TO SEE CHRIS COOK BACK. I THINK HE WILL BE JUST FINE FOR US.

PLEASE ALLOW ME TO ANSWER TWO OF MY HARSH CRITICS OUT THERE ABOUT MY CHILDRESS BEING A “GLORIFIED ASSISTANT AT BEST” REMARK:

THIS IS MY SIMPLE TEST FOR WHAT MAKES A SOLID HEAD COACH, OR MANAGER – IN ANY SPORT:

FIRST YOU SEE THE TEAM YOU HAVE ON PAPER – AND YOU GET A PRETTY GOOD IDEA OF WHAT THEIR ABILITY TO ACHIEVE SHOULD BE.

WELL, A SOLID HEAD COACH ACTUALLY GETS HIS TEAM TO PERFORM THE WAY THEY SHOULD ON PAPER.

NOW THE GREAT COACHES, SUCH AS PARCELLS, COWHER, WALSH AND BELICHICK – WELL THEY ACTUALLY GET THEIR TEAMS TO CONSISTENTLY PERFORM AT A HIGHER LEVEL THAN THEIR “ON PAPER EXPECTATIONS”. EVEN THE 2nd AND 3rd STRINGERS PERFORMED WELL UNDER THEM.

THE ONLY CAVEAT IS THAT NO ONE CAN ACCOUNT FOR INJURIES, ETC.

NOW I LOOKED AT OUR VIKINGS ON PAPER AND ALL I COULD SEE WAS THE LOMBARDI TROPHY BEING HOISTED UP HIGH BY BRET, ADRIAN, JARROD AND THE GANG OF PURPLE & GOLD.

BOY, WHAT A BEAUTIFUL SIGHT IT WOULD BE — AT LEAST ON PAPER !

I don’t think we have the right coach, this may be the closest of a good roster we will have to make it to the superbowl, too bad we have an injury cursed team year after year and a coach who falls asleep the first half. There is no sense of attack when we play on offense its always play into the enemys hands type of offense. Chilly should be a kindergarten teacher he doesn’t have the mentality to win and attack defenses.

As Herm Edwards said yesterday. You don’t get rid of the coach, you don’t get rid of the players, and you don’t criticize each other. You play with who you have. This is the National Football League, so you suck it up and play. They have a great group of athletes to put on the field. They just need to eliminate penalties, big plays on special teams, and turnovers. I believe they are starting to figure things out. The offensive line overall, did a pretty good job of protecting Favre, with the exception of a couple of plays. I just feel like their identity is pass first, then run, as they did last year. They have been trying to do the opposite and it is killing them. Monday nights game reminded me of the Bears game last year. Run, run, run the first half, then play catch up with the pass game. We need to come out slinging the ball, then give Adrian his carries, once they back off. I still love the offense with Favre & Co., and think they can and will be a great team.

nfl channel says loser is out of playoffs, so yes, this is a playoff game. even though the vikings do have a good tem, winning 9 out of the next 11 games just to get a wildcard will require a great coach. with chilly as coach, we are going to need alot of luck

Biggest thing as I see it is unity, and cohesion. The continuity of the team is disrupted by injuries. The timing is out of sync. When they have gotten it together I’m more impressed than I was last year. The Vikes will get a rematch with the Jets in Dallas!

    It’s going to come together.

Just a thought. Tavaris is a very mobile quaterback with ability to throw the deep ball. Maybe a more mobile quarterback is the answer for a struggling offensive line. As crazy as it may sound, T-Jack may be very good for us right now.

Lance- Our hardly a coach wont let TJ use his athletic ability. Chilly wants him to stand in the pocket & not use his legs. TJ is a better QB when he can play like Vick not to mention more dangerous. I agree, mobile might be better, but I will stick with Favre.

First of all, I’m a Cowboy fan. AP is from East Texas and I live about 50 miles from his home town and watched him play in high school. It seems Viking fans are saying the same things about your team that the Cowboy fans say about our team. Whoever wins the game will probably go to have a great season. I love to watch pro football and like many of the players who are on different teams. Hopefully my team will play well against your team and not be embarassed like our last game. Regardless, I will support my Cowboys win, lose or draw. I wish the game were in JJ’s place in Arlington,Texas so we would have home field advantage. Go Cowboys!

One report has Brett questionable for tomorrow. I know he’ll play. With Cedric going down for the count, Cooke still nursing a knee. We really need a phenomenal game from Antoine, and LIto. It could be very high scoring. The running up the score thing from last year, that just get’s a handful of guys jacked up for the kickoff. After the kickoff, it’s two 1 and 3 teams that have to get it done, or have a slim and none chance of reaching their goals for this year. I hope I’m wrong about the Jets, because they are class-less. I couldn’t help but notice how Revis talked up shutting down Moss, but then was too injured to cover him. Cromartie played very well, but Moss still had a strong game with limited knowledge of the system. Vikes will win at home.

  43. By Conner on Oct 16, 2010 | Reply

TWVike probably remembers when Childress was touting Tavaris as better than McNabb at the same stage in his career, (After two seasons.) I do feel the Vikings have limited T Jacks potential by trying to change what were his instincts. 1. To avoid an injury as many mobile quarterbacks get creamed in the open field. 2. When A.P. exploded on the scene, some of the Vikes best games limited TJack to 15 to 18 throws.

We all know, when we bought the ticket to Hattiesburg. Barring a major injury , Favre will be our guy. I really hope for the best for Favre in his family life. I hope he returns to having the fun playing the game he had last season. He inspired all of us “Never-beens” to release the inner-child and go have some fun. Starting Jackson, and if Jackson were to have success immediately would start a whole QB controversy the Vikings just can’t handle right now.

i know favre hasn’t been playing well guys. but you have to look at the last game. if you think about it, favre brought us back. and passed for 225 yards and 3 tds in the 4th quarter alone. thats crazy. yeah he cost us the game at the end. but we wouldnt have even had a chance to win if it wasnt for him either. now see what he can do when the o line blocks? he can do amazing things. if our line blocks. we win

  47. By Meekay on Oct 16, 2010 | Reply

    @soldier1986

How do you know we wouldn’t have had a chance to win without Favre? Nobody else has been given a chance to run this offence yet. Call me crazy, but I’m betting that almost any other QA in the league could’ve moved the ball more than 50 yards in 2 quarters.

I keep hearing that Favre is going to be alright. Sorry, but we’re 5 weeks in and the first half of last weeks game was the worst I’ve ever seen him play. Sure, the last quarter was good, but you don’t win games in one quarter. But I guess we should just wait around until we’re out of the playoffs before we give anyone else a chance at all, right? Yea, that makes sense.

  48. By TWVIKE on Oct 16, 2010 | Reply

If Favre cant go, Bone-head Brad has to let T. Jack play like Vick by using his arm & legs. We have to move the ball ten yards at a time. We cannot expect our D to be on the field all the time, like in the Jet game. We will beat the Cowgirls!

People keep forgetting that although Tarvaris can run & pass somewhat accurately he still can NOT read defenses or audible which is quite helpful if not downright necessary if you want to get to the playoff’s. He is also a china doll & gets injured very easily so in light of all that info Brett is our best bet to go anywhere! Once Brett & Randy get their timing down & Sid comes back late November/early December this train will be cruising-who’s staying on & who’s jumping off?

Meekay, and others… you guys want Jackson in there? He is inaccurate. He gets confused with disguised defenses. He can’t audible. He is a bust, guys. Yeah, the Vikes may underachieve this year, and not make the playoffs. Its a real possibility. Jackson is NOT the guy to get us there. If we are going to make it, its going to be with Favre at the helm, no other way.

The appropriate changes in staff will happen when the time is right. Go Vikes! As I have said to my youngest son, I do want to see the Vikes win the Super Bowl before I die and I am pretty healthy.

With all the talent, why can’t our offensive line protect Brett Favre???? He’s getting hit way too much. That problem had everything to do with losing to the Saints last year. Favre’s got to have more time. Thank you for Randy Moss! He is a quick learner and he is on his way to really becoming an asset and will improve more and more each week. But hurry up Sidney!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!We need you to start Week 7!!! And oh my gosh when Rice is back with Moss, Peterson, Harvin, Camelio, Gerhardt and Berrian and Favre!!! Watch out !! But they must remedy coverage for Favre and no doubt Super Bowl is in the cards. Our defense already rocks with Allen, Greenway and the Williams brothers. Thank you defense!!!
