Another Jets FG Gives NY 12-0 Lead

Posted by Ryan Cardinal on October 11, 2010 – 9:12 pm

Following a Brett Favre fumble on the Vikings 1st offensive play of the 2nd half, the Jets took over at the Minnesota 47-yard line and proceeded to drive the ball down to the 17. The Vikings defense put a halt to the drive – its 3rd red zone stop of the game – resulting in a 34-yard FG from Jets K Nick Folk, his 4th of the game.

The Vikings trail 12-0 mid-way through the 3rd quarter.

I’ve figured it out, It’s all about Bret Favre records, and Childress is risking the season for Favre records.

I will never watch another Vikings game. I will not buy anymore merchandise. In conclusion, many people will follow me in this bid for a winner. Let’s show everybody that old dogs can learn new tricks and teach Favre how to WARM A BENCH! He’s already got every other record, let’s see if he can earn the record for making the bench warmer than anyone else could!

Honestly, what can we lose by trying out a different QB and seeing if they can perform better than #4 now? The Cowboys are coming to town desperate for a win, and their defense is going to take notes from all of our other losses and repeat everything that has been working against Favre. We have one of the top 4 defenses in the league, but they just can’t be expected to win a game when Favre is handing the opposition the ball in our territory TIME AFTER TIME AFTER TIME!

    Wow,

I’ve never seen more fair weather fans. One minute Favre sucks, the next he’s great, the next he sucks the next Peterson’s great, the next Peterson’s sucks the next Jared Allen is great the next he sucks. And from what I can tell as an outsider Childress seems to suck all the time. Let me give you morons an unbiased objective opinion:

If you can get either Bensen or Cook to actually stay healthy, keep playing good D and have the offense to continue to get better and protect Favre. They will light it up like last year and all you have to do is get to 4-4 and you can win this division at 9-7 or 10-6. GB is done. They have more injuries then I’ve ever seen a team have in my life and the Vikes can beat the Bears twice.

When this happens I don’t want to see the same naysayers on this board jumping back on the bandwagon.

Fact is that I wasn’t certain Favre had it in him from Day 1. Every game he plays he convinces me that he DOES NOT HAVE IT. The rest of the team has good players and has a great chance at winning games if Favre weren’t in there taking snaps for the opposition.

Let’s remember that Moss made Culpepper look great! With him and the other weapons on offense Jackson can look like he belongs on the first squad too. JUST GIVE HIM THE CHANCE!

How about trap plays or (heaven forbid) even a reverse every now and then? WTF-

I’m sure you were the same guy who was yelling when they let the other backup QB go in favor of Jackson. If you think hard enough you may remember when he was a starting QB and how that worked out. Finally, Randy Moss is still a very good receiver but he’s not Randy Moss from 98-07. Favre’s not Brett Favre from 1997 either. However, you can’t tell me watching the throws tonight that there is any difference in his play from last year when you all were dancing in the stands. All I’m saying is it’s pretty amazing that after 4 games you’re throwing everyone under the bus. The JETS may be the best team in the league and certainly have the best Defense. With Randy in town for 3 days and playing with two guys (Lewis and Berrian) who shouldn’t even be on an NFL roster I would challenge anyone who would say that another QB could have won this game for the Vikes.

pc – no, I was the ONE that was ashamed of our fanbase when they boo-ed Jackson off the field, and disappointed in Childress for allowing his decisions to be made by the fans.

You must be a completely ignorant moron if you think that Jackson can’t have improved since his AVERAGE season in ’08. You must be even more ignorant if you really think that any other QB wouldn’t have done better than Favre did today.

#4 is NOT the same player he was last year. He is much less accurate and is doing a much worse job at recognizing the blitzes and getting the ball out when they’re coming. I CAN ALSO TELL YOU THAT BRETT WASN’T DROPPING THE SNAP LIKE THAT UNTIL LATE IN THE SEASON.

I’m NOT throwing everyone under the bus. Just Favre and the playcalling. EVERYONE ELSE on the team has been playing good, all things considered, and would benefit from the change.

I’m tired of seeing everybody talk about the coaching staff. BRETT FARVE LOST THIS GAME! All we needed was a field goal! We had 3 TO (all by Farve). He was 14 of 34; he was missing wide open receivers all night. If TJ was out there playing like this, you all would be screaming bloody murder (remember two years ago. and TJ was not nearly as bad). If Farve starts the next game like he started this one, he must be pulled, if we are going to have a prayer of making the playoffs.

childress and bevel, do use think use could be anymore conservative? you have the best quarterback who plays the game with one of the best recievers to step on the field, not to mention harvin, shiancoe, berian, baskett, and camirillo. You’s wonder why we have to play from behind the hole second half!! Maybe use could run on first and second down the rest of the season? You’s might as well get rid of favre moss shiancoe and harvin because use are just wasting there potentional. Childress and Bevel use don’t even deserve to be with an organization as good as the vikings. If use wanna run the ball and first and second down use might as well go back to coaching college, because in the nfl you have to pass first to open up the run game. Passing and defense wins super bowls not running. Just to let you’s know the best play against blitzing defenses is a screen pass. Nice job attempting one all game, you’s are almost good coaches.

  99. By WTF on Oct 11, 2010 | Reply

I disagree dmac – Favre was already given 4 shots to get his act together. He needs to be pulled now. He is too stubborn to admit that he is injured and he is too old to play through injuries any more.

The best shot we have now is if Goodell suspends Favre nice and quick for the sexting in NY. Either that, or the defense “accidentally” hits him too hard in practice and gives him an injury that he couldn’t possibly try to play through.

  100. By dmac32 on Oct 11, 2010 | Reply

PC: sorry, I was about to go to bed but then I read your insane comment. No other QB would have won this game for the Vikes? Are you serious or delirious? Favre: 1)fumbled the b all by himself right after a great defensive stop.(nobody touched him or was close to him)2) Mu ffed a perfect snap=Jets recovered.(head was not in the game)3)Missed many open receivers including over throwing a WIDE OPEN Harvin towards end of game that would have led to field goal field position or better.4)INT at end of game.5) he was visibly not mentally in the game until the second half… He made some plays in second half but that only disguised how bad he was the rest of the time. What game were you watching? Favre stnunk! Why are Favre fans so blind?

I knew that Favre would throw a pick on that last drive before the Jets scored a defensive TD, and now you know the anguish that Packer’s fans went through for years when Favre fell flat in the clutch. Had he completed that pass to a wide open Harvin, Minnie may have won the game by a point! Also, Favre should have paid off the Maxim model and the person with the evidence given his bonus money this season. What the h*ll was he thinking leaving voice mails, emails, texts, and digital pictures that could be used against him? This scandal is distracting and destructive, tarnishing Brett’s legacy!

I forgot about Farve missing a wide open Tahi on the two point play. That some called such a bad coaching decision.

The 2-point conversion was the right choice. It was late in the game, and a 1 point deficit was no better than a 2-point deficit. But a tie would have made a big difference. The MISTAKE was being indecisive about it, and calling a time-out to give the Jets time to prepare for the attempt.

Ok i feel that Brett is just not in the game i watched today’s game and he’s not the same. Last year we got blessed with Brett’s best season in his career. He just turned forty-one has ankle and elbow problems. I love watching the guy play but it like watching a back yard game with you father-in law at QB. This is Jackson year and team we brought favre in to lead us to the super bowl and to mentor are young QB Jackson. Sorry favre but start Jackson on Sunday against a very fast Dallas defense.

i think Farve knows he’s in trouble, now there are 4 girls coming forward for harrasment. his marriage may be in trouble too

Yeah favre haters can e*t a d**k, no way TJ or Webb brings them back thru the air against that D. Sure he lost the game, but you wouldn’t have even been within striking distance with one of them two qbs. Lucky for us, we have the prodigy in Rogers.

Webb is a rookie and doesn’t really know what position he wants to play QB or WR. Jackson’s number has progressed since he took over at QB for the Vikings, and with the o-line not living up to the expectations we need a QB that can scramble. Not sit in the pocket like a sitting duck, or gun sling a pass for an intersection. Don’t forget Jackson has a cannon and with randy, Sidney, and Percy that could be good news for us.

let favre go! he is done. he is one of the best all time but his time as passed. i know its hard to yet your old dog go but keeping him out there isn’t helping us.

You people seem to forget that Favre was a Packer for 16 seasons! That’s what he will be remembered as not a Viking!

Dear Wilf family, I really hope it was worth it to bring back the oldman “brett favre”, when you should have left him at “HOME” !!!! the money that you guys are paying him to lose is just unreal, wow he got his 500 TD’s and 70.000 yards milestones, but he always seems to find a way to lose the game for us with an “INT” every time..and as for all you people out here saying it’s not his fault ???? wake up it is his fault and only his, he can’t hit a WR that is wide open but he sure can hit the definder everytime for an “INT”..we are 1-3 and with the teams we still have left to play we will be lucky if we get into the playoff’s with a wild card..thanks alot oldman favre they should have left you at home the season is over thanks to you..

Fire Childress Now!!!!!!!!!!!! He is running this team into the ground. He is slowly giving our season away. He is an idiot. He looks so lost on the sidelines. I have been saying this for years, he has been the real reason we have not gone to the super bowl in recent years. he is not a head coach, he was barely an assistance coach. He does not have what it takes to be a coach or leader. Fire him before it is too late……………

We were great in the third quarter but it was too late. Continue that next week and we will win. Start off great and you won’t lose.

  124. By WTF on Oct 12, 2010 | Reply

With our defense we just need to start off average in most games. Consistant running and passing the ball to the underneath receiver early on is what is going to give us the wins. Goals for 1st and 2nd down should be nothing more than to move the ball 3 yards. Anything more than that is a bonus which will come frequently with yards after the catch from the quality players on our offense. Wear the defense out with this strategy, keeping them honest by throwing it deep maybe 10% of the time. If we need to, we can go for those magical 65 yard gambles down the sideline in desperation mode. Until then, these are just wasted atempts which make the following plays that much more difficult.

I think the Vikings played well once they got yelled at in the locker room. If we can do that right out of the gate we can go 13-3. Farve needs to be smart with the ball and play like he did last year. We know that you can still throw the ball think before you throw Farve. GOOOOOOOOOOO VIKINGS.
