The Vikings acquisition of WR Randy Moss this week disrupted our normal coverage of the team leading up to a game. It was a welcome disruption, don’t get me wrong, but now it’s time to briefly touch on a few aspects of tonight’s game that we weren’t able to mention in the past week or so.
One of those aspects is the fact that the Vikings are coming off their bye week as they prepare to take on the NY Jets on Monday Night Footballl. Here are a few trends to consider regarding the Vikings and their bye week…
– Brad Childress is perfect in guiding his team out of the bye week, going 4-0 since 2006 and logging wins vs. Detroit, vs. Houston, at Chicago and at Seattle.
– QB Brett Favre hasn’t lost a game coming out of the bye since 2005, when his Packers team lost to the Vikings.
– The early-season bye isn’t considered perfect timing generally for NFL teams, but it helped the Vikings heal up from some early-season injuries. The player that arguably is best-served from the bye is WR Percy Harvin, who was still catching up from missing much of training camp and also had an ailing hip after 3 games. TE Visanthe Shiancoe also used the bye to help recover from a hamstring injury suffered against the Lions in Week 3.
