Vikings Captains On Moss’ Arrival

Posted by Mike Wobschall on October 6, 2010 – 12:20 pm

Rumors of a potential trade of Randy Moss to the Vikings and then confirmation of the deal have dominated the sports and NFL landscape over the past 18 hours. In that time you’ve surely heard a lot of opinions regarding the trade, from national voices to local reporters.

But now that it’s a done deal, it’ll be interesting to hear what some of the current Vikings have to say about the development. Vikings Head Coach Brad Childress has already explained that Vikings ownership was supportive during the process of acquiring Moss and that the organization is thrilled to have Moss back in the fold.

A couple of Vikings captains have also chimed in on the matter and have echoed Childress’ sentiments.

“This is an exciting move, I think everybody feels that in the locker room,” QB Brett Favre said. “It’s rare you get to play with a future Hall of Famer and get to appreciate their talents up close. Randy Moss is a great player and his career speaks for itself. I’ve admired him from a distance for a long time and you can’t help but be impressed by the guy.”

DT Kevin Williams, who played with Moss in Minnesota for 2 seasons (2003-04), welcomed the addition and said the acquisition will give the team a spark

“I think everybody was a little surprised when they heard the news, but I think it’s a good move,” Williams said. “It will give us a spark and open some things up. Randy’s a guy who has always worked at his craft and I think that has showed over his whole career. He’s been successful and been a part of winning a lot of games. He’s one of the most competitive guys I’ve ever played with and I’m happy to have him back with us.”

When Sidney returns, you will have the “Dream Team”!!!! Nice birthday present for Brett; I bet he feels ten years younger today, and Adrain is going to be able to tear it up with defenses worrying about Moss! Can’t wait for Monday night!
    Go Vikes!!!!

This will give the Jets fits…loosen up the defensive backs and enable AP to
run wild and then just when the think it’s run Moss will free up other receivers.
Favre is probably more fired up than anybody

Now future HOF quarterback, two heisman runner up backs and one pro bowl running back, two pro bowl WRs, a D line second to none, watch out NFL, the season is ours. Wow, can’t wait until MNF, the spark has been lit again.

PANTS ON THE GROUND, PANTS ON THE GROUND LOOKING LIKE A FOOL WITH YOUR PANTS ON THE GROUND!!!

You can feel it in the air people. This is what our team needs. A spark like Moss ignites Favre, which ignites this offence, which sets fire to the whole Vikings organization!

Nothing’s going to be handed to us on a silver platter, but out chances at a Super Bowl run just got a lot better.

I can’t believe that the Vikings are taking on Randy Moss. This is not going to bode well for the future of the vikings or the present for that matter. Chemistry, effort and execution are all going to be problems if Moss indeed does go the vikings. Moreover, I don’t think that giving a 33 year old receiver with attitude problems is a good idea.

Viking Owners and Management, You have just made my son one happy guy. He always loved Randy and this move is spectacular. Welcome Back Home, Randy!!!!!!!

I think that Moss being back with Minnesota is awful!!! When Brett had his press conf he stated that he was all about the players and that was why he was back!!! Now you have Mr. ATTITUDE back. Lets see how Favre feels when he walks off the field in one of his fits leaving the team on the field!!! In my eyes if they are darn near giving him away there is a reason for it!!!

This goes to show what a great owner we have and the personnel that are dedicated to bring the Lombardi trophy to Minnesota. Ive been a fan sine 1971 and I can remember all the great and the not-so-great memories this franchise has provided. What a distinct difference Mr. Wilf has been to the Vikings compared to Red McCombs. Wilf is willing to put his money on the line to produce a championship. Looking at this deal on the front side, we gave up a third rounder for a receiver that brings the ability to make the aerial catches, but also a variety of other skills as well. Where Berrian struggled to make the backside catches and the over the top grabs, he also stretches out the field for the other receivers Harvin, Shiancoe, and Berrian. It allows them to revert back to their strengths. For Harvin, he will be able to domiante the slot once again. Berrian will get single coverage as will Shiancoe, and then the one who may benfit the mlost besides Favre, will be AP who is already having a great year. Its going to be pretty simple, get Moss the ball, create chaos, dominate on D. And if Rice comes back anywhere near last seasons breakout performance, this team will be unstoppable. There was a time that Randy commanded a defense that had to dedicate a corner and a safety and every once in a while the D would also have to drop a Linebacker as well. Doing the math, 1 on 1 equals a big play, 1on 2 equals an opening, 1 on 3 equals confusion. Either way all we really need are 5 or 6 productive games and the rest will be history.

This is absolutely what the Vikings needed to do is bring in one of the best WR to ever play in the NFL. There is no telling what this may bring. As a HUGE Vikings fan of many years you can feel the buzz in the air. WELCOME BACK RANDY MOSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  18. By Ekolu Osorio on Oct 6, 2010 | Reply

You’re absolutely right. I believe Randy has at least 3 productive season left. I hope he retires a Viking, He’s been my favorite receiver since the Vikings drafted him in 98, even when he got traded.

This is great! I do hope that Randy brings his “A” game each and every week, when he does this guys is unstopable.

Good luck Randy, Brett and the rest of the team!! The remaining games of the year are going to be very exciting to watch!!!

Vikings will lose to Jets 14-10…then dominate the rest of the season..then when sidney is back…wow….bring him and Favre back next year too and win back-to-back

The Vikings now have a true dream team in place. Favre, Peterson, Moss, and when he gets well Rice. along with shashankco, Gerhart, and Camarleo. who is the defense going to focus on to stop. you stop the pass Peterson will run wild, stop Peterson the pass will kill you. This team should put all the other teams into having to throw to stay caught up and then the Defense will pin their ears back and go for the Quarterback. GOD BLESS THE VIKIES AND LETS PACK FOR DALLAS IN FEB.

    Chris Ross-
You are wrong. This is exactly what we needed! Way to go Vikes!

  24. By DrPsych on Oct 6, 2010 | Reply

This shows that the Vikings owners and coaches are serious about “win now.” This must have Brad Childress growing hair! Imagine coaching all the talents of Brett Favre, Adrian Peterson, Percy Harvin, Shank, and now Randy Moss. There are not enough players on any team to cover all the prime targets. Now, I believe the train stops at Dallas, without overstressing Brett’s abilities. It’s great to see Brett’s dream come true, too. I bet he can’t believe how many good players he has around him–and then the Viking D. Can’t wait to watch what happens in Green Bay! Thompson will have to look at TWO big mistakes he made.

In a time of widespread anabolic steroid use, where some great personalities have indulged in performance enhancing drugs, the media has demonized Randy for being outspoken and emotinal. His emotion goes to prove his love for the game, a lot of the situations he encountered were earlier in his career. And form the first time we get to look back at his recent past and make a positive judgment. He has been a solid contributor to the Patriots organization. He arguably has been the most important player on the field for the Pats the past three years, arguing that Brady ahd a career season in 07, got hurt in 08, and led the league in TD catches while making the players around him better. He has an outstanding football IQ, he has great hands, great speed, and he is a fierce competitor, just ask anyone of his teammates. He comes back to his home in Minnesota and brings hope to our strugging offense.

an early birthday present for Brett Favre, lol. Randy Moss can more than make up for Sydney Rice being gone and when Rice is back look out! Remember when Favre was on the sidelines during the Lions game saying “they can’t cover him” speaking of Rice. Moss will make a huge difference in the passing game, and also open things up for the other receivers.

Great move by the Vikings. The Wilfs are by far the best owners of any Minnesota sports team. They proven by this move as well as others they want to win a Super Bowl.
I hope the Vikings get a new stadium because the Vikings and the Wilfs deserve it!

  29. By tom on Oct 6, 2010 | Reply

If Favre connects with Moss for a TD at Green Bay this year, do you think that both Moss and Favre will drop their pants (pretend moon) in the end zone?

  30. By CA Norwegian on Oct 6, 2010 | Reply

It’s not about the Moon, it’s about the stars! But they will only shine if we can block for Bret, or Taviris or Joe. I think we can get on a roll and win the superbowl with any QB now. Moss, Harvin, Rice, Shenk, Peterson. There is no reason for us not to win with those guys playing and hopefully healthy, If our blockers can do a fair job, we will win big, many times. They gave up Moss cheap because they want us to beat the Jets for them! We had better obliege!

Thank you Mr. Wilf and Management gets an A plus plus plus. Now if we can invest in another humongous offensive lineman and a Darius Raynaud-type of return specialist; we’ll be awesome. Great move, Vikings organization. THANK YOU. The stadium will be packed home and away. This Monday Night game will break records again!!!!!!!!!

I don’t care what the negative people think about Moss’s attitude. It was a hug mistake letting him go in the first place! The vikings went down hill fast after we let him go! I could care less what Moss says as long as he can help us win our first Super Bowl, which he can!!!!!! For the people who are such football nuts and think that Moss won’t help our team because he has an attitude, you are CRAZY and don’t know enough about football!!! This was a smart move and I thank Z W for getting him here. Anything to get us a super bowl championship so thank you again to the front office!!! You are showing us that you want to win NOW!!!!!!!! We appreciate it! Skolllllllll Vikings!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow! When Sidney gets healthy, this could give the Vikes the receiving corps that was similar to Carter / Moss in 98. I think the past is the past. Moss has shown a great deal of maturity over the years in Oakland and with the Patriots. He hasn’t taken the “Plays-off” that was one of his issues near the end of his first Viking tenure. Also, at that time, the Vikings were a sad organization. Other key players on that team were having problems off the field, they were destined to lose a lot. Randy knows it’s now or never. He’s playing with a quarterback who has always respected his talent. We just need the line to give Brett 3.5 seconds to launch it.

Here we go again with the Moss bashing.
So Moss walked off the field a couple SECONDS early in a game several years ago. How soon you forget that Brett Favre did the EXACT same thing!

Hey Greg, those few people that are putting down the vikings for getting Moss are not viking fans there Greenbay fans, no true viking fan would not be happy right now that we got Moss back, i am so happy Moss is a Viking again. GO VIKINGS

A real Vikings fan can not be mad about Randy being back. The man still maybe the best reciever in the NFL. Randy with the rest of our offensive talent and Rice coming back we have the best recieving core in the NFL! You can not be mad a that.

As a FORMER packer (small p) fan who watched every play of every game since 1994 (DirecTV), could you be specific about the game Brett walked out on?

I am over joyed Moss is here, so I’m not trying to compare the two; just want to refresh my memory.

The Addition of Moss should help us put more points on the board, which in turn should allow the defensive line to pin their ears back and get after the other teams quarterback. Sometimes I have more fun watching the Viking D-line hunting down and destroying the other team quarterback than watching than rest of the game. I hope this move allows our defense to become super aggressive but still under control in keeping the opposing teams points per game average way down. ” Happy Hunting Vikings Defense!”
