Pending Physical, Vikings Trade DE Mitchell To Cleveland

Posted by Mike Wobschall on October 5, 2010 – 3:17 pm

The Vikings traded DE Jayme Mitchell to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for an unannounced draft pick on Tuesday. The trade is contingent upon Mitchell passing a physical examination.

Mitchell was originally signed by the Vikings as an undrafted rookie free agent following the 2006 NFL Draft and holds the distinction as being the only undrafted rookie with 2.0+ sacks in a game in franchise history.

Currently the Vikings have 9 defensive linemen on the active roster, including 4 DEs.

why not trade BB and chilly to the chargers even up for V. Jackson. get rid of 2 sub-par people in 1 trade, and get a pro bowl receiver in return

Brad Childress is a great coach. Since being hired, he has rebuilt the Minnesota Vikings staff and has his team poised to win a Super Bowl. You know how he did it? By ignoring the self proclaimed experts surrounding the media. This is the type of man you want on your team. Gentlemen, it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish, and the season is young.

fire childress, it would be nice if the other teams would do whatever we wanted…
I would go for that suggestion, as he is a go to guy Brett would take chances on.
They do want to punish Jackson, not trade him. This V Jackson situation, I think is more about the business of football, and controlling the players choices, than about free the markets and making the players and fans happy. Maybe they will prove me wrong, but I think he will be in San Diego’s doghouse unless he seriously caves on his ambitions.

It is nice we developed undrafted talent and bought a draft pick with it..

Are they making room for somebody new??? A big, tall reciever from san diego perhaps?

  7. By Ekolu Osorio on Oct 5, 2010 | Reply

By the way, even though Childress has made some bad decisions and lacks game time skills, he has gotten better every year, his next step could be the Super Bowl in spite of a terrible start. But its not how u start, its how u FINISH!!!

Relax on the WR V. Jackson we dont want him. Rice will be back soon. Camirillo will fill in these next few games. Have some faith in your team. If we are talking trades I suggest we move a saftey to the Colts. Alex Gonzales would look good in purple. Just a thought.

Raul, do you consider a great coach would go for it on 4th and 2 in the 1st quarter against Miami, when our offense is struggling on top it? that call by chilly cost us that game, and may of cost us the season. when your offense is struggling you put points on the board when you can. this isn’t high scholl football

  12. By Jordan on Oct 5, 2010 | Reply

Trading a safety is a bad idea whoever said that… We are so banged up back there. Sheppard, Cook, and Winfield are all awesome but we need backups. Jackson would be awesome. We only have Harvin and Rice for recievers. Percy is probable nearly every game and Rice is hurt right now. Jackson would be a great fit here.

fire childress, people learn best from mistakes. Besides an outcome of a game isn’t determined by one play. Look at the bright side, Peterson gets stopped against the Dolphins due to lack of patience, but against the Lions that patience pays off for him and he’s rewarded with the longest run of his career. “May have cost us the season” is way exaggerated and dramatic. Jets play heavy dose of man, Dallas has O-line problems, Packers can’t run, and the Patriots have a defense liability. This early bye was a blessing in disguise. The 9 remaining games will all be W’s and easy sailing. You know why? Sidney Rice. It ain’t how you start, it’s how you finish.

I live in Miami, FL but would not enjoy anything more than to see the Vikings win it all this year. I will be thrilled for Randy if he’s reunited with the purple, bust out that #84 baby!!!. Man if we thought Carter,Moss, Reed was great can’t wait to see Moss, Rice, Harvin.

I love the vikes and agree Moss is a great player, however I dont think that he is a good fit for Favre and Childress

  23. By Eugene G on Oct 5, 2010 | Reply

seriously how would you defend Randy Moss, Sidney Rice, Percy Harvin, Vishante Shiancoe, Adrian Peterson, and Brett Favre under center? that’s scary..but if anyone will benefit from this it will be Adrian Peterson because with Rice and Moss you can expect some doubling on one of them and the coverages will have to back up because if you blitz Favre he gonna check down to his big targets that’s how Brett rolls he checks down to his receivers down field so teams would have to back away and that opens things up for Adrian Peterson and that also give Toby Gearhart a shot as well I really hope we pay the man he got 4 or 5 more years left and he and Rice and Shiancoe can gel and that paves the way for Joe Webb to step up and take us into the future and also Harvin and Peterson and we can be in contention for many years so Childress PAY THE MAN!! Skol Vikings!!

Anyone who thinks bringing Moss back to Minnesota is a bad idea, you all are dumb. And, don’t you all know the situation with the Pats currently? Moss is getting old, and the Pats have a lot of young recieving talent, so they really don’t need Moss anymore. I think if Moss comes home, that will be amazing, no matter what.

Ok some people are stupid. Be faithful to your team and stop saying “fire Chilly” He has rebuilt this franchise by himself. And also everyone is saying Put webb on the field i have a few words for you..First of all just because Joe had a few good running plays doesn’t mean we should put the ball in his hands this early in his career, Also in order for him to play as a Qb he would have to be 1st or 2nd string because 3rd Qb’s can’t get in the game unless the first 2 are injured…And if they move him to 2nd string how does that make T-jack feel. Putting him as 3d QB? Wow

Randy with one arm is better than Bernard. Berrian will do better with a BIG-TIME wideout on the team. He is not a #1 receiver and has proven that with only 6 catches& 0 TDs. Cant wait!

Had to set a few Pats fans straight in another blog because they were underestimating the value of Moss. They were yapping about how Brady won 3 rings with noname receivers. I had to remind them that the Pats had one of the best defenses around during those SB’s and how those guys put a beating on Manning and the Colts for years. If not for that defense Manning would be the one with 3 rings.

  43. By Dustin on Oct 5, 2010 | Reply

Lets just get this straight, We have a better team today then we did Pre-Chilly. We have a ton of talent on the team and we may be adding more on top of that with an addition of Moss, I say give the guy a break we have a good scout office to spot great talent and most moves/trades have worked out alright.

As far as the 4th and 2 is concerned, If AP ?(perfectly capable of gaining 2yrds) would’ve converted that into a 1st down or touchdown then no one would be bad mouthing the choice to go for it. and if your going to make a mistake it might as well be early in the game so you have time to make it up.

Please happen. Gonna be very disappointing if it doesn’t. Moss, Rice, Berrian, Harvin, Shiancoe, Peterson, Farve, the O-line doesn’t have to play that well with those weapons.

1st round pick seems a little steep, but honestly who cares what it takes DO IT.

Kinda like the Favre talk…I think this does happen and if you look at old posts I had a feeling after MOSS’s comments after week 1. Randy started in MN he should win his SB in MN and retire in MN…Come on front office…MAKE THIS HAPPEN…Give the man 30mill for 3 years…Bet Favre wants to come back when he has MOSS, RICE, HARVIN AP and one of the BEST D’s. Unstopable..back to the 98-01 days when a team wanted to play shoot out with the Vikes…The Vikes won and will do it again…except the other team wont be able to shoot out our D is too good! Getting Moss is a gamble that could pay off big. They should give him a big deal. A mediocre year for him is way better than whats on the field now. And the vikes need him for these upcoming road games. Moss always looked good in purple.

all the people who say “do whatever it takes.” please remember the hershel walker trade. there are like 3 reporters reporting different things right now. calm down. anything more than a 2nd,5th, and 6th pats can keep him. i would love to have moss back in purple but i don’t want to sell the farm for him. whoever said the oline wont have to be good with moss on the field. are you serious? favre is still gonna need time to throw it to him. what about next year when favre is gone and chilly goes back to run, run, run or screen, punt. what will moss be doing?

  63. By ORVikingFan on Oct 5, 2010 | Reply

moorevikes….Just like a QB can make a reciever have a stand out year (Favre, Rice) a WR can make a QB look good (Culpepper, Moss). So think about this…If Moss comes…Favre stays another year at least. If not my Grandma can look like a star QB with Moss, Rice, Harvin, AP and the D we have. I agree dont sell the farm…But to get Moss on a long term contract rent out the farm if need be…Walker is nothing like MOSS….Remember the 2 NFC championship games and the 6 NFC North titles we had with Moss….GAME ON GET MOSS FRONT OFFICE!

Very surprising that all it took was a 3rd round draft pick to get Moss, especially when San Diego wasn’t letting VJacks go for a 2nd round pick. Steal of the century guys.

He’s on a Jet on MN today, and he’ll be on a Jet to NY over the weekend just to have a Jet on him Monday night!

The biggest question left is what number will he be wearing? Can I pull out the old 84 from the basement or has he become attached to that 81 that the Pats slapped on his back?

I also want to know what Chilly plans to do with the receiving lineup now. Moss obviously gets the push to #1 no question, but does Berrian remain in the fold when Camarillo’s hands are so much more reliable? I would move BB back to the #4 until Sidney is back to top form (probably playoffs, or the last couple games if we are desperate for him). He can come in on 3rd and long plays to stretch the other side of the field and force the defenders to tell us whether they are going to let Moss, Harvin or Shiankoe get open.

Oh did I mention Favre would be slinging the rock to them all?? This move is great!!!! With the D playing the way it has been this year, this move is exactly what we need to re-energize the offense as well as the fanbase! SKOL!!!!

  95. By WTF on Oct 6, 2010 | Reply

ORVikingFan – get your head on straight. This move is better than getting Favre here! They just had to convince the guy to stop looking for retirement homes for an extra 2 years.

Getting Moss over actually required tact! Someone had to convince the Pats that he wasn’t adding anything to their team anymore, and then they SOMEHOW convinced Belicheck to just hand Moss over to us for practically nothing! Favre and AP are LOVING this trade! Favre has a guy who can stretch the field and will catch just about anything that comes his way again, while AP has a guy who will demand an extra defender to look away from #28, making the holes that much easier to find.

Did I mention that our offense has 3 RotYs on it now? How awesome is that? Add a guy under center with multiple MVPs and one of the best (THE BEST) defenses in the NFL and the rest of the NFC North looks pretty weak now.

The reason that we traded him so that we have a roster spot open for Randy Moss. They (the vikings) are working a trade with the Pats to bring Moss back to the Vikes.

3rd round pick, we stole him back! Lots of gas left in his tank. Now Favres hair might get some color back! Time to get on a roll, BOYS. Lets kick some Jet-ass! APs going to think hes dreaming, the whole defense wont be on the line of scrimmage anymore, waiting for him. Berrian should be able to get open now, Percy can do what he does best. We now have our #1 wide-out& watch out when Sydney returns. This is the boost we need! GO VIKINGS!

Check out this Quote from the most recent news:

“Ultimately, the biggest winner might be the Patriots’ division rivals. ‘No one’s happier than the New York Jets,’ Kirwan said. ‘They couldn’t care less about the one game they have to play against Randy and Minnesota [Monday night]. They know that their arch enemy is not the same team they were before.'”

Almost sounds like the Jets are are already conceding the game to us! But trust me, The Minnesota Vikings fanbase is happier about this than any of Moss’ former rivals could be.

Do you really think he can still catch….I know he can still run, but can your QB throw that far…especially when he’s on his back!!

One player doesn’t mean superbowl…you still have to play the games. I bet Moss only has two catches and three DROPS vs. Jets.
