Cook, Harvin Good To Go For Sunday?

Posted by Mike Wobschall on September 24, 2010 – 6:16 am

Injuries have been a factor for the Vikings in the early portion of the 2010 season, but there were some positive developments on that front following Thursday’s practice.

After injuring his knee in the preseason, rookie CB Chris Cook has been out of action for the Vikings first 2 regular season games. Cook came on strong at the end of training camp and the preseason and was even in line to potentially start against the New Orleans Saints. But then a knee injury derailed him for a moment.

Cook was listed as a full participant for the 2nd consecutive day on Thursday and indications are that he may suit up and play on Sunday against the Lions. Cook’s presence in the defensive lineup would be a nice plus for the Vikings because they’re going against a WR with elite size and speed in Calvin Johnson. On top of that, Cook is solid in run support and the Lions bring with them a talented rookie RB in Jahvid Best who will test the Vikings run defense.

The other piece of good news on the injury front to come out of Thursday’s practice regarded WR Percy Harvin, who was listed on the week’s initial injury report as dealing with a hip injury and an illness; the illness designation indicates Harvin dealt with another migraine. Harvin missed practice on Wednesday but was back on the field as a limited participant on Thursday.

Following Thursday’s practice, Harvin told reporters he was feeling great, that he got a good night’s sleep on Wednesday night and woke up Thursday refreshed and that he rebounded quicker from this migraine than he typically had in the past.

“I’m not happy over the migraine, but I can’t ask to never have a headache again,” Harvin said. “But if I can go periods where I don’t get them, I’m happy with it.”

In addition to the migraine, Harvin is also dealing with a strained hip that has bothered him the past couple weeks. But as with the migraine, Harvin appears to be progressing well back to health and was able to practice with his teammates on Thursday after sitting out on Wednesday.

“A lot of people said I looked normal,” Harvin said. “It feels good. It gets fatigued at times but with treatment and keep lifting and getting it back strong, it should make a full recovery.”

The key for both Cook and Harvin now is to see how they come back to work Friday following Thursday’s activity. Stay tuned for more as we’ll have Friday’s injury report as soon as it becomes available.

Wonderful news. With Percy and Chris in there are possibitities have inproved by 75%. Now if we only had Chester Taylor back.

The only thing we need to do right now is work on the end game. We seem to do pretty good until it comes time to get the points on the board. The end zone kills us every time.

Kingpin- Chester Taylor is gone, your window for the Super Bowl is gone– deal with it. Go Pack Go

gr8 news about both #12 and #31 … if any doubt on either hold them back and get bye week for an extra week of rehab … dont need no chester taylor he chose to leave and with all due respect he earned that right too … just one suggestion about 4th and one / goal … run #28 behind #76 & #74 with #40 on the left end and #83 behind him … i am not a rocket scientist … but … cmon man

I am hoping they throw Kleinsasser into the mix this week. He can catch and rumble. If Harvin is good to go and Camarillo can get open- who knows, maybe we can actually have some offense. I am notholding my breath for Berrian anymore and I am hopeful Basket can get into the scheme and contribute.

I am so excited for Sunday’s game. It takes me until Wednesday or so to get over the previous Sunday, and then I’m “all in” for the next one. Go Vikings!

not only its the team! our fans has to get in the game and not give up so EASY as they did last weekend!

Both are good news. I advise to be cautious with Cookie as our D has been pretty stout so far. We need Percy! Lookin forward to making a 5 hour drive early this sunday morning to see the purple kick some booty in person for the first time this year! Go Vikes!!!! As for fans of other teams particularily packer fans on this site, let em talk. They were crazy quiet last year as our guys stomped a mudhole in them at the Tundra!

I think its funny when GB fans come on here and talk trash….considering they dont have a right to talk….Until they win the North (which has been the Vikings for 2 years str8) heck until they beat the Vikings….we owned GB last year and will do the same this year…All they are doing is running the only thing they can….their mouths :-)

The problem is obvious to me. Sidney Rice got hurt, so the whole offense imploded..or maybe Berrian is mad because he didn’t get enough money….or maybe its who is calling the plays……or the offensive play of the offensive line….or because Brett is old…..or because Peterson fumbles too much…….or we are cursed as a franchise…..or maybe…..just maybe it’s because Childress hasn’t played the water buffalo at the watering hole video lately? It’s Lions were are playing this week isn’t it? That’s it……for sure. Vikings win this game, but it is a tough game. 17-7

lets face it people, our whole season rides on the Detroit game, if they lose, the vikings are done for the season, they need to sweep Green Bay, Chicago and Detroit both games just to have a shot at 1 home playoff game. if we beat the jets-i’ll be really surprised. Chilly put us in a hole, and not sure if we can climb out, it all starts this week, a playoff type game in week 3, thanks chilly for going for it on 4th and 2 in the miami game in the 1st quarter, dumbbbbbb

  16. By Rick James on Sep 24, 2010 | Reply

I’m not so sure that was the wrong call. If they made that they woulda set the tone and took the mental advantage. Also if the D (while playing awesome this year) woulda kept them out the endzone on that particular series and won the field position battle, i think the game is different. You are right tho, this is a playoff type game. It’s gonna be rockin in the dome and we can only hope our purple people eaters show up and get rollin heading into the bye week. At first I thought the bye week this early sucked, but if we get a big W heading in, it might be just what the doctor ordered. GO VIKES!!!!

when your offence that is struggling to score points, you have to take points whenever you can. i can see going for it on 4th and 2 in the 4th quarter, behind by 4 with minutes left, or if it was 4th and a foot, but not 4th and 2 in the 1st quarter. that was not a professional call by chilly. i say we trade Chilly to the charges for V Jackson

  18. By Have Faith on Sep 24, 2010 | Reply

I have no problem with Chilly. Let’s keep in mind the improvement he’s brought to our team since he’s been here. He’s hiring the right guys and we were a few plays and bad calls away from the Superbowl last year. It’s good to hear that Cook and Harvin are feeling good, we need ‘em. I agree, we need Percy a lot more, our D is looking pretty tight. But Cook will help with the pass D. And Jackson wouldn’t play for four games. By then our chances are either shot or we’re back in the swing of things. He’d be a nice addition to the team in the future, but we don’t need him. What we need is a QB, it’s time for a young guy to come in. As a fan, I’m tired of living off these old relief guys.

And as for the fudge-packer fan, let him talk. If he wants to make himself look like an ass, let him.

Packer fans, you pathitic. You lost your star CB, you lost your star RB, your gonna loose your star LB. Packer panice level, HIGH. Your wins were not impressive, Eagles had many oppourinties to beat your fudgePackers. Rodgers cannot win without Grant, Rodgers cannot beat Favre. Without a running game the Packers might as well pack it all up and go home!!!!!!!!!!!!

Glad to have some of our guys back. We will win this weekend & it will be a great game.

The packers show up here to see how a real team works. They are so lonesome without Favre that they come to the Vikings site for 1 last moment with the greatest quarterback ever!!

By the way Purple Nurple, that is awsome!!

its extremely funny how people dog favre, and yet he is the reason we did so well last year, and he was still old…people. If he starts to do great this year, the majority of the people on here will be like well… we could have scored a hundred points with micheal vick. Thats the stupidest thing in the world. When he was in this summer,, he sucked. He has had a couple good games but he will not follow through for an entire season.. He is a running quarterback, and cannot lead a team to the Super Bowl. Vikings fans need to start being vikings fans and have fun rather than whining like babies when they arent undefeated.

  31. By ELA Viking on Sep 25, 2010 | Reply

C’mon Viking fans, get behind your team,,,,,I may agree with many that Childress is on his last season and should go, but for now he’s here, support the team! Farve is Farve,,,,yes he should have been there in training camp, that’s the reason there is no fluidity with his limited receivers- no other reason. But we are still THE VIKINGS……Cook is gonna start when he’s healthy, and AP is getting his motor revving…….Go Vikes!…..
