CBs Cook, Griffin Questionable; Leber Probable

Posted by Mike Wobschall on September 24, 2010 – 3:25 pm

The Vikings and Lions have issued their Friday injury reports. Let’s get right down to the details…

The good news is that LB Ben Leber (back) was a full participant and is listed as probable for Sunday’s game. He was limited on Wednesday and Thursday and progressed to a full participant in Friday’s practice; it appears he’s in line to play this weekend. WR Percy Harvin (hip) was limited again today but that’s good news considering he missed Wednesday’s practice with the hip ailment and an illness.

There’s been speculation that both Chris Cook and Cedric Griffin could suit up this weekend. Cook was a full participant on Friday and Griffin was limited; both are listed as questionable on the injury report and the jury is still out as to whether they’ll play on Sunday.

Here is where the other players on the Vikings injury report stand: DT Jimmy Kennedy (knee) is questionable and WR Bernard Berrian (knee), QB Brett Favre (ankle/elbow), T Bryant McKinnie (finger) and C John Sullivan (calf) are all probable.

For the Lions, QB Matthew Stafford (shoulder) has been ruled out, as expected. Also ruled out are WR Nate Burleson (ankle) and LB Zach Follett. Listed as questionable are: DE Cliff Avril (finger/knee), LB Landon Johnson (neck), LB DeAndre Levy (groin) and G Stephen Peterman (foot). Listed as probable are: S C.C. Brown (forearm), S Louis Delmas (biceps/calf/groin) and LB Ashlee Palmer (ankle).

If there is a game to get the offense on track, its this one. The Lions are at the bottom of the league in defense. Dare I say the Vikes will score 20 points!Vikings 28 Lions 9

really, it’s not going to matter if these people play or not, if we lose this game, season is over. we need to sweep the division just to be considered for a wildcard now. and we have to play the jets after the bye, everything looks like it did early in the decade. slim to no hope…

ARE YOU PEOPLE THAT ILLITERATE? THE VIKINGS, LIKE QUITE A FEW OTHER TEAMS THIS SEASON, ARE DEALING WITH INJURIES. ONE TEAM IS DEALING WITH THE UNEXPECTED DEATH OF A TEAMMATE. LAST YEAR IT WAS THE BENGALS. SO, WE’RE 02 AND YOU ALL ACT LIKE IT’S THE END OF THE WORLD FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!! MY HOME TOWN’S SEMI PRO FOOTBALL TEAM WILL BE VYING FOR A THIRD CHAMPIONSHIP APPEARANCE IN FOUR YEARS! THEY WON BACK TO BACK CHAMPIONSHIPS AND EACH TIME THEY STARTED OUT WITH AN 0-1 RECORD.SAME THING THIS YEAR. THE NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS WON THEIR FIRST TWO SUPERBOWLS WITH AN 11-5 RECORD. THE VIKINGS ARE 0-2 WITH 14 MORE GAMES TO PLAY AND YOU’RE ALL CRYING???? MAYBE IT WOULD BE A GOOD THING FOR THE NFL AND PLAYERS ASSOCIATION TO NOT FIND A RESOLUTION FOR 2011. PERHAPS IT WOULD BRING YOU ALL BACK TO REALITY. WHEN THE GAME WAS A GAME AND APPRECIATION WAS EVIDENT BY DEVOTED FANS. LAY OFF FARVE, WILL YOU? YOUR EXPECTATIONS ARE WAY TOO HARD. Seriously, is Childress going to continue to have Berrian as the Number #1 receiver when we have Lewis, Greg and Baskett on our team? Berrian doesn’t run routes right, takes his eyes off the ball and doesn’t GO FOR THE BALL at all! WTF IS WRONG WITH CHILDRESS? CAN’T HE SEE THAT BERRIAN DOESN’T TRY THAT HARD? WHY IS BERRIAN IN THE TOP 2 SLOTS? WE NEED TO START A PETITION TO DROP BERRIAN DOWN TO THE 4TH OR 5TH SPOT AND SEND IT TO ZYGI WILF!

we all realize that the vikings have people hurt, but by the time Rice heals it may be too late. is Rice going to pull us out of a 3 and 5 hole when he comes back all by himself, i don’t think so. it all started by the bad draft picks, when we didn’t pick best, and then chilly lets the best punt returner in the nfl go to the giants for a 7th round future draft pick. the 4th and 2 in the 1st quarter call was absolutely dumb also in the Miami game. i have nothing against Farve, he just doensn’t have no one to throw too.

  16. By larry2 on Sep 24, 2010 | Reply

I’m confused. I’m still trying to figure out the reason behind the Sage/Reynard trade to the Giants. The Vikes got draft picks but how is that going to help the team this year when they have their best chance at winning. At the time everyone was assuming that they were getting picks to use in a trade to get Jackson or Housh but now we know that wasn’t the case. WTF?

  17. By WTF on Sep 24, 2010 | Reply

larry – since you addressed me specifically – the trade happened because we needed to open spots on the roster anyways. One QB had to go, and for some reason Sage was the right answer for the coaching staff. I never really realized it last year, but it turns out that when Sage was talking with Brett on the sidelines in between drives, he wasn’t picking Brett’s brain, Brett was picking his. They were working things out together to figure out how to improve for the next drive. That was an invaluable asset that Brett has lost this year, and is the biggest reason why we should have tried to trade away VJack instead.

Reynaud was a part of the trade, I BELIEVE, simply because the Giants made it a requirement if they were going to take Sage off our hands. That trade happened before Sidney went if for surgery, and things may have been different if the coaches knew that our #1 receiver was going to be gone for half the season.

I just watched the latest Favre press conference and I have to give Mike props for getting our pleas heard! They finally started getting the mike in the face of the guys asking questions (after a few minutes into it) so we don’t have to crank the volume in a vain attempt to understand what question is being answered.

    THANKS MIKE!

I just went and watched the Chilly press from this afternoon, and it appears the mike didn’t arrive in time. Larry – good question. WTF – good answer! I would have moved Webb and Reynaud to WR. A 5th and a 7th round pick next year for Rosenfels and Reynaud doesn’t look like a good deal at this point. WTF – you might be right, it did seem like Favre and Rosenfeld worked together and communicated very well on the sidelines. I thought Rosenfels was just making the most from learning from Favre… but maybe it was a two way street and Rosenfels was helping Favre in some way. Maybe Bevell and Childress was threaten by this relationship and needed to make a move. It sure looks like the Vikings out foxed themselves on this one. Larry, I too am questioning that trade?

i don’t know vike fans. you can either coach or you can’t there is no in-between. a great coach can take mediocre players and turn them into champions. a mediocre coach can turn a championship team into 8-8. i have a feeling that is what is happening here.

  30. By fire childress on Sep 25, 2010 | Reply

you are absolutely right moorevikes, chilly turned our superbowl team to a average at best team. some of the very bad decisions he has made since the draft up until now are beyond me, i could of coached the Miami game better. it’s like he’s trying to try to put us in the gutter on purpose, or maybe he’s that dumb?

  31. By moorevikes on Sep 25, 2010 | Reply

h-ell if we lose to the lions tomorrow i don’t see us going 8-8. i hear alot of “wait til rice is back” sid rice is the man, i know. but do you honestly think he will be 100% his first couple games back? we’re looking at week 10,11, or even 12 before he’s at a hundy. we got @ jets, pats, greenbay, and bears. and lets face it if we lose tomorrow i don’t see us beatin the cowboys or cards at home either. we could be looking at 1-8, 2-7, at best 3-6 by the time rice comes back. but that’s why they say any givin sunday and also why there is miracles. i’ll also say this, even if we go 1-15 i will watch every minute of every game.

i’ve always felt that a coach should have atleast 5 seasons to see what he can do (unless they’re completely clueless) well chilly we’re at #5. so far not so good. i’ve always givim him the benefit of the doubt he went 6-10, 8-8, 10-6, then 12-4. but even then i’ve still hated his style of coaching. if it works, great you’re a genius. if not you gotta go

Rice is no moss he does make an impact but not to the point where we win and lose games. Yeah favre is missing a big target but our record is bad because of poor coaching, injuries on defense and offense percy is in and out of the lineup there are no set starters on this offense. Everyone is zig zagging around they just picked up baskett, he needs to know who is in the lineup for good not one week percy is starting next week he has migraines and is out. I believe teams know when the vikings will pass or run, and when I watch I do have a feeling when they run or pass its not a complex offense. Its either peterson berrian or shank chilly doesn’t spread it out and keep them guessing.

i do not even put chilly in the catagory of a good coach, he is a sub-par coach. Denny Green was a good coach, BUT not a great coach. Bud Grant was the only great coach the Vikings had in the 50 year span. i hate to bring this up again, but that 4th and 2 call in the 1st quarter of the Miami really burns me,YOU IN NO SITUATION GO FOR IT IN THAT SITUATION! i got so mad when i saw that, i threw my shoe at the tv. that play ultimately cost us that game.when your offence is struggling to score points, PUT UP POINTS WHENEVER YOU CAN. i am a math teacher and coach my high school football team. we have had a winning team since i started coaching 10 years ago, including 1 state championship. i always take the blame when we lose, and i tell the kids that immediately after the game, i tell them i’m sorry

    should have gotten vincent jackson

  40. By fmfan on Sep 25, 2010 | Reply

our DBs get burned on the out & up because they get caught looking in the backfield on the out and the receivers beat them on the up for a wide open pass down the sideline because our safty doesn’t get over in time (both passing tds against us). Either the cbs have to keep their man in front of them or the safty has to come over quicker to cover the sideline.

  41. By fire childress on Sep 25, 2010 | Reply

our defense is not the problem, our defense only gave up 2 touchdowns in 2 games, the offence gave up the rest on fumbles.we will probably end up with the number 1 denfense in the leaugue by end of year. offense and special teams is the only thing you need to worry about

I love it how you guys try to find any reason you can not to blame Favre. Hey WTF! You think Favre was picking Sage Rosenfels brain for ways to win? You make me laugh! Rosenfels is a dud, so quit everyone whining about him being traded. When things are going great you all talk about Brett Favre…When things are going bad, let’s blame anyone else but poor Brett. Favre has s crewed us. Let me ask you Viking fans this question. When the Vikes miss the playoffs this year and Favre retires, are you going to go back to hating him like you did when he was a Packer or will you continue to say he is the greatest of all time and none of this was his fault. Blame Childress and T-Jack but not Lord Favre. Favre wears golden underwear and his s h i t don’t stink either. Man, some people are really blind. Up yours Brett!

you are wrong purple, maybe it would help if you knew what you are actually watching when you watch a football game. is it Farve’s fault Percey runs the wrong pattern or doesn’t read the coverage right? no! maybe if percey actually went to practice, you think that might help? is it farve’s fault when he hits BB right on the numbers, but drops the ball? is it farve’s fault the offense line only gives him 2 seconds to throw the ball? no! watch playbook on the nfl channel sometime, if you did, maybe you wouldn’t be flapping about something your clueless about

  45. By moorevikes on Sep 25, 2010 | Reply

no 08 i will cont. to blame childress because he didn’t have the b alls to bench favre. even if he does, do you think chilly is going to give tjack the opportunity to run this offense? h ell no. is the oline going to miraculously block any better? h ell no. there are much bigger problems than who’s at qb. childress has had 4 years to either s@#t or get off the pot when it comes to jackson but every year he brings in a veteran ( or past his prime) qb as a band aid fix. instead of trying to draft or get through free agency a franchise qb or even letting jackson see what he can accomplish in a full season or two. it must be awesome to be a fan of a team that you know who is going to be your starting qb from one year to the next.

fire childress in 08 defense favre should have had his a ss at training camp when all his other teammates (that he is supposedly playing this last season for) were there. then there wouldn’t be excuses on timing and knocking the rust off.

  48. By fire childress on Sep 26, 2010 | Reply

another problem is when Farve throws the deep ball BB doesn’t even make a attempt to catch it, he just more or less watches the defender intercept it, and then then BB can’t even tackle the defender after he intercepts it! we need some tall receivers! i think Joe Webb will be the starting QB next near. the only thing about that is usually athletic quarterbacks can’t thow the ball very good, but can run, good example is Vic. but once they go past 30 years old, they are not as fast running and usually retire

  49. By purple08 on Sep 26, 2010 | Reply

Fire Childress: It IS Favre’s fault he has skipped training camp the past two years and is not in sync with his receivers. You blame Harvin for missing some practice time because of migraines yet Favre’s absence is acceptable? The most important position in football? If Favre wasn’t so old and slow maybe he could move around in the pocket a little more and buy some time like most QB’s in the league. It’s called being an “athlete”. I guess the 3 INT’s last game weren’t Brett’s fault either? Or the fumble? Favre had decent protection last game by the way. I don’t need to watch NFL playbook(although I do) to see Favre is not the same man he was last year. Do you really think Brett Favre’s body can continue to perform at the level required to play effectively in the NFL forever? (see replay of underthrown deep pass INT in 4th Qtr) Not to mention the mental aspect? Just because someone on the NFL network points out some poor route running by Harvin, it does not change the fact that it was Favre who missed all the practice time and thus has thrown the entire team out of sync. Bottom line is you are an idiot and you are blind. You just continue to base your opinions on what someone else has led you to beleive there buddy. It is you who are clueless. There is no way Favre will finish the season. How much desire to play will he have in him should the Vikes have no shot at the playoffs towards the final 4 weeks of the year? What would be the point of him playing? I do not wish injury upon any player but I almost hope Favre’s body gives up so we can finish the year with T-Jack or even get Webb some playing time. I do think T-Jack is a better option than Favre at this point. If he could manage games and make some plays with his feet, our defense could win us alot of games. Favre is a turnover machine. Always has been. Last year was an oddity. Plus, teams know the magic is gone…blitz blitz blitz. End of story, end of Favre…retire Brett…just retire.

  50. By WTF on Sep 26, 2010 | Reply

purple08, you dipshìt, it’s not that I think Sage was helping Favre out, it is that he actually said it at one point. It was something that I saw in an interview earlier this year. I never cared for Sage, but it looks like someone needs to be helping Favre straighten his mind out on the sidelines. I’d think you of all people would agree with that.

I thnk Jackson is the better option too. But how good is he going to be for this team when the entire fanbase boos at him every time he steps on the field? How much would you want to win for people who hate you for not being a pro-bowler the second you warmed your hands on the center’s áss? Our fans are horrible. They refuse to give a guy a second chance. And so now we’ll have people whining about the QB no matter who he is, at least until the end of 2011.

It turns out NOT, so I want a change. Keeping Brett in there and expecting something different out of him without changing anything else (and Baskett is not a change, just the same problem in a different number) is moronic.
