Harvin (Hip), Leber (Back) Improving

Posted by Mike Wobschall on September 20, 2010 – 4:29 pm

The Vikings had injury added to insult during Sunday’s loss to the Miami Dolphins when both WR Percy Harvin and LB Ben Leber were forced out of action due to injuries. Harvin told reporters immediately after the game that he was to undergo an MRI on Monday and word emerged that Leber was dealing with a back ailment.

On Monday there were positive reports on both Harvin and Leber, although time will tell if either or both players will be sufficiently healed to suit up again next Sunday when the Vikings host the Detroit Lions.

Vikings Head Coach Brad Childress said Harvin is doing better, that his hip injury is of the nagging variety and that nothing “dramatic” is going on with the hip. Childress then described Leber as “much improved” and indicated a “twist or a turn” was the culprit in the LBs back injury because the point at which he suffered the injury did not look obvious on tape.

Asked if there’s a chance Harvin or Leber will play on Sunday, Childress said: “There’s always a chance.”

If berrian were gone, the team would be better. Just on his missed blocks alone. If you look at who tackles peterson on his 20 yd runs, it is always berrians block. The guy just isn’t physical. Plus, he is a waste of space since other teams have realized they can simply single cover him. He won’t fight for the ball so single coverage works.

They need to spread the ball out more! they have some good receivers and even though they lost they were looking good! Very poor play calling!!!

Well if we had a real quarterback instead of an old man are receivers would not be hung out to dry and hit while still in the air..

Barrian is not a GO TO GUY-gets paid like one-but isn’t! He is a 2nd to third reciever who gets receptions when 2ndarys are covering GO TO GUYS! Chilly-Spielman…he’s also NOT a punt returner. That should be noooooo surprise to ANYONE.Gentleman, please THINK!

BE POSITIVE! like Nebraska said, lost two close games by a total of 9 points, Our Defense is doing great things, and our offense WILL come around to how they were last year. Ive been a fan for 15 years since I was 7, It could be ALOT worse!

CHEER FOR OUR TEAM! Don’t hate, they don’t need or want that!

Push the positive button. It’s alot more likely to work than the negative.

I am sick of people crying for the coach’s job. They did the same when Dennis Green was here. Green had about the same W-L record as Vince Lombardi.
    (LOOK IT UP!!!)

Brad Childress’s teams are 6-10, 8-8, 10-6, and 12-4. This is a remarkable improvement from year to year. Who else has that kind of record!
How many coaches have you seen that never have a losing season?

Make a choice: be part of the problem, or be part of the solution.

true…. Vikings will get around to it,but these offence of ends need to work on blocking they’re smaller opponents that come in across the line like tornados and the O-line needs to open up those gaps for AP……. Childress VIKINGS need RECEIVERS!!!!!!!

Where is WALKER?I do like BB but right now he isnt cuttin it. Maybe if we used him more runnin slant routes that could be beneficial. I would like to see Camirillo used more like Welker on the Patriots. They have similiar styles and both reliable hands. Back to Walker i think he is a GREAT target for #4 to hit All day! Then let AP keep smashin it off the LEFT SIDE.
Toby did good for his first game.

the bottom line is this game is on CHILDRESS. plain an simple, opening drive, instead of going for it on 4 and 1 and a half, take the field goal. you get those 3 pts, then the late game heroics fall on the field goal kick, where i like our chances. we should of won 16-14 or 19-14. take your pick.

Our receivers are not getting any separation, only getting very small windows of opportunity, 90%+ of time. Brett has had a number of throws dropped in that small window, which would have made a big difference. Got to take what the defense gives you, but have to catch the ball like your life (or job) depended on it!!! Walker can definitely help the situation, and V Jackson would be a major plus….our QB will get it there….Camirillo has sure hands and needs to be more in the mix…..we have to move the chains to win!!! Maybe our OC (Bevell) needs to take a real hard look at our personnel and bring fresh ideas into our WC offense to better fit our current receivers. Recivers must be on same page…Berrian had a TD off his back shoulder if he just turned around on the goal line and caught the ball…..same thing most NFL teams do!!! Time has come to strengthen our WR’s!!!

Is it just me, or does Harvin seem to find a way out of practicing for half of just about every week? The kid’s got skills, but for some reason he always finds a way to get himself beatup whether it’s physically, mentally or healthfully. It’s starting to sound like that kid who always has a new reason for why he didn’t finish his homework.

Childress = worst coach ever!!! You can blame Childress for this team not going to the Super Bowl last year. Yup, the twelve men in the huddle penalty pretty much did it…good one Chilly. How do you get that penalty off of a time out is what I want to know. Chilly’s playing calling is so predictable it’s funny….four runs in a row yesterday…come up with something more creative you moron. How about a play action pass for once you idiot. The reason why coaches like Belichick and Sean Payton win Super Bowls is because they are creative offensive masterminds who go for the throat when they are playing against teams. I’d do anything to get one of those guys coaching this team. Or better yet, bring back Tony Dungy…he’s a proven Super Bowl winner. I’m tired of Childress not answering questions in his interviews. He can’t accept the fact that Jackson was a complete bust, so he just tries avoiding the question.

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR CHILDRESS AND WILF. TRADE FOR VINCENT JACKSON OR RANDY MOSS OR AT LEAST RESIGN J. WALKER. if the Vikes can sign V. Jackson to a 1 year deal, then only give up a 2nd round pick. If the Vikes can afford to sign him to a 2-3 year deal then possibly give up an additional later round draft pick if needed. GIVE FAVRE THE OFFENSIVE WEAPONS HE NEEDS WHILE YOU CAN. FAVRE IS NOT GOING TO BE PLAYING NEXT SEASON. next season the Vikes will need to find another QB. Are the coaches and owners actually serious. with Harvin out, you have 3 WR’s. the loss of Chester Taylor also hurts the Vikes. Vikes also will need the $ to resign Rice and other key players next season.

This team crumbles under adversity headed for a crash collision even if we beat the lions next week nothing to get happy about, sure they are a improved team but I won’t buy into it just yet. If we lose next week you can say stick a fork in them its done.

  29. By CarterMossReed on Sep 21, 2010 | Reply

Does anyone notice when the vikings start out games they mix it up for about 5 plays and then the rest of the game they are predictable and vanilla like it was preseason all over again. Chilly and bevell needs to go if favre keeps throwing interceptions I’d say bench him and start webb. Favre has no passion no weapons for him besides ap but we can’t always rely on the run because not every scenario will work for the run if we get behind and play catch up we are done our pass offense is sloppy and pathetic. Our defense is not stopping the run like they use to, the secondary I will give them the benefit of the doubt because griffin and cook are out. Not to be negative but history repeats itself with this team. I wonder when this team will finally land a good coach. Like it or not chilly and bevell are not made for the nfl.

LOLOLOLOL not surprising the Webb talk has already started. Unbelievable. After two games everybody would want Jackson in. The two things said the most by us Viking fans: Fire the coach and put in the back-up.

Good post though CarterMoss. Couldn’t agree more about Childress and Bevell.

0-2 isn’t the end of the world. Vikings were never gonna win the SB anyway. All I want from this year is for a stadium deal to happen. Please win most of the home games, ty.

YES bring back MOSS! At least with Minnesota he’d have a chance at a ring and so would the team! Wouldn’t take Farve and Moss long to hook up deep and into the end zone! We need a receiver bad. Do what has to be done Childress and get us some receivers! Pay the money, make the deal and bring back home the best, Moss!

We need WRs now. Losing chester taylor without a replacement player was a mistake. Favre is still very good but has 50% fewer weapons. Do the math!! Chilly is way too cerebral when he needs to be cunning instead. Reminds me of the British fighting style during the revolutionary war. “Lets all line up in perfectly spaced rows in an open field wearing bright red coats and dont shoot till I say… FIRE!” Great game plan Limeys! War plan intellectually created and designed by brilliant Generals. Get my drift? Chilly would benefit if he would react to the energy and trend of the game rather than how intelligent he appears with his play calling. I wish him the best. I love the Vikes!! Chilly, look at the Bears in 1985 when they won the Super Bowl. Ditka was not smart. However, he had every player focused and determined to play as a team. Jim McMahon use to change Ditkas plays in the huddle or call an audible when he thought it would benefit the team. Please leave the play calling to Favre. I trust his cunning Kiln, Louisiana Hall of Fame mind over the superior intelligence of General Bradley “Chilly” Childress any day…

It’s only 2 games in, the Viking hammer will soon fall on all opponents, the Bleacher Report says the Vikings will own the NFC this year.

  35. By D. E> F on Sep 21, 2010 | Reply

Well, As you can see. The vikings are a good team, just like most of the good teams that beat them. But the difference is they are making to many mistakes. Just like every big game they have evr played from there beginning. I have seen that all my 52 year old life.

Question is, can they clean up all these mistakes and finally overcome this thing that always seem to plague them. Do they want to win? Then let’s see some of the mistakes disapear
Last night, San Fran could have won. But look at there mistakes. It is that thing that in the moment makes or breaks the game. Vikes have to conquer that thing.
Let’s see it happen. GO VIKES!!!!!!!!!

Berrian never was a No. 1 guy. That is why the Bears let him go. He wasn’t worth the money the Vikings gave him. He is a good deep threat and has pretty good hands, but to give a guy like this No. 1 money was silly. Whoever made that choice should have their head examined.

And, protect Brett. Vikings, you are great, just get better. If we have no fumbles or interceptions we will win every game. Good luck guys! I sure miss Sidney! And Percy, be great again please, now.

I simply LOVE it when you guys say “bench Favre”, or “the Favre experiment has got to go”, and then, in the next line, say that he doesn’t have a dependable receiving corps. Please think before you type. He had 4 turnovers last game… are you really gonna put the Harvin interception and the strip in the endzone on him? Really? Harvin should have caught the ball, and the right side of the line couldn’t stop my grandma from taking their chair at the bingo game. If you have watched football for the last coupla decades, you know that Favre is gonna take some chances with the ball, expecting his receivers to make a play. Don’t get angry with him now because his receivers don’t.

Vikings should give Payne a shot! He’s physical, has good speed and great hands. He also blocked for a couple good backs during his college days.

As a Charger and Viking Fan, I find Vincent Jackson very interesting. I hope he comes to the Vikes. 0-2 is not the end. Cowboys, Niners, Vikings.,,. Very good NFC teams all at 0-2. I bet two of them are in the playoffs. In the past the Chargers started badly and then ended up winning their division. I think it is not unreasonable to think the Vikings could put together a win streak and make the playoffs even if they loose the next two. They will hae to play on the road and win all the time to get the the Superbowl. They have to max protect, by putting Watchers who can block in the backfield. No matter what blitzing scheme, they always go to the QB on a pass, so put blockers in the backfield. and use them for chipping and long ‘handoffs’ like Indy if the D plays coverage.,

V jackson and S Rice… Could be a Moss Carter Combo. Thoughts? Mark my words…. Vikings are tired of all the badmouth. they will put the hammer down on Detroit this week. Go Vikes!!!!! Kurtwood you are still a moron.

The bad thing about vincent jackson is he can not play for another 4 weeks. Rice will be back by then. We need help now. In the preseason we had guys who could catch the ball. We need guys to do their jobs. If you get paid good money to catch the ball…do it!! Fight for it!!! We can still with this.

by the way kurtwood, you do not know what you are talking about.

  45. By ed on Sep 21, 2010 | Reply

the head coach has to big of an EGO to sign V-Jack. plus he does not like Tall receivers who can seperate. You all should have known that when he cutt every single receiver on the roster during the preseason that was over 6’2″, except 6’4′ Holmes who is doomed to the practice squad this year. Napolean does not want to win. He would rather tank a season and make #4 look bad(revenge for last year’s line of scrimmage audible’s), than to get some legit receiver help so we can win.

unless the d or special teams score we are looking at 10-14 points a game until rice gets back…hopefully it can be turned around but right now it looks like major mismanagement of existing talent, wrong decisions on players let go and and no additions added that would have made this team even stronger than last year.

Face reality- we are stuck with Berrian. He needs to step up or sit down. Favre is still our strength and is going to produce. We need to leverage Dugan and Kleinsasser in the mix for some short passing pickups until Favre finds that rhythem downfield with hopefully someone. Too many haters saying idiotic things about the Vikes now. What a bunch of whanneys! But, I agree with one thing, Childress needs to address the WR issues fast and just DO SOMETHING.
