Vikings Drop Home Opener To Dolphins

Posted by Mike Wobschall on September 19, 2010 – 2:33 pm

The Vikings turned a flat and unproductive 1st-half effort into a nail-biting finish but ultimately were unable to overcome mistakes and a tough Miami Dolphins team, falling to the visitors 14-10 on Sunday at Mall of America Field.

Trailing 7-0 at halftime, the Vikings deficit grew to 14-0 in the 3rd quarter when QB Brett Favre was sacked and fumbled in the endzone, allowing LB Koa Misi to fall on it for a TD. The Vikings responded later in the 3rd quarter with a 1-yard Adrian Peterson run to cut the lead to 14-7 and then a Ryan Longwell FG in the 4th quarter made the score 14-10.

The Vikings defense rose up several times in the 2nd half, and in the 4th quarter the offense was set up on 2 occasions to notch the winning score. But things wouldn’t fall the Vikings way and the Dolphins sealed their win by turning over the Vikings on downs with under a minute to go in the game.

We’ll have more coverage from today’s game on vikings.com so stay tuned.

Favre threw more than 2 bad throws, but 2 of his bad throws got intercepted. A half decent throw got bounced around and then intercepted. A bunch of other throws hit defenders rather than the receiver who had a defender glued to his face.

Bottom line is that fans were SCREAMING to get Jackson off the field after 2 losses in 2008, when he only threw 1 INT alongside 1 TD in 2 losses. The offense actually scored MORE points in those 2 games than Brett’s offense in 2010 did in either game. The defense simply wasn’t as good as it is now. And remember, Jackson only had Berrian to throw to. Rice hadn’t appeared yet, Harvin was still in college and AP was purely a running back. With worse stats all around, why wasn’t the crowd booing Favre off the Field today?

SO JACKSON IS THE BETTER QB. Give him a chance, and see what happens.

I am from Wisconsin, its not over yet farve can do it! and if he cant so what its a game. I was happy he left green bay, he was over rated, look at his interceptions that lost games in green bay.

Farve is weird, sometimes hes on and sometime hes off. I still hate him and he is a selfish player.

    good luck with him

Tjack is Tjoke, he will never be a starter in the NFL, when Chilly is finally forced to get rid of him, no one will take him, not even a high school football team. Sage never should have been traded. Tjack cant read defenses, and looks down only 1 reciever, dont forget sll the batted down throws he has. When the Vikings went 10 – 6 Sage won 6 of those games. The crowd wasent booing Farve because he is maybe the greatest Qb to ever play the game. Look at the stats if it were not for turnovers and penalities we win. BB needs to step up, Replacing Farve you must be a lunitic.Farve is more of a comperitor than Tjoke, the vikings will bounce back, Ap was great, defense great, Chilly needs to start coaching and eliminate penalities!!!!!!!!

Can we not use Webb as a WR? He is not going to see anygame time as a QB while Favre is here so why not utilize his raw tallent where we need it as a deep threat with amazingly explosive burst with his run, not to mention that he is a tank. He would dominate on one on one coverage and would fair well with 2 on 1 coverage. I think with out a dependable deep threat Brett is just another decent QB. We spent all this money to secure him but we are not giving him the tools that he needs to play his game.

Bench Brett Favre? Your off your rocker. The Vikings sent three team members down to get their quaterback. The Vikings quaterback does not need to be benched. The psycological effect on the team would be catistrophic. The Vikings have put all their eggs in one basket and they are going to have to ride it out for the season. I suggest the fans do the same, win or lose. Every game comes down to 4 or 5 plays, whether it’s interceptions or a dropped pass at the goal line or 4th and goal. A loss hurts everyone players and fans a like. The blame game makes it worse. Support your team and it’s leaders and the chances of wins will increase. If the Vikings fans support their quaterback during his toughest times he will come back and play 10 times as hard to win, and that will trickle down to the rest of the team.

I told you all week that we had a good chance of beating you at the dome. I even predicted a four point win. I thought you could put up at least 17 points, but we only needed to score 14. So where is purplenurple, moorevikings, David…you must acknowledge my greatness. You are two games behind the Packers and Bears and the fins will be in first. It will fun to see what you will whine about this week. Were the refs bought off, the fans were not loud enough (oh right, you were at home, where you never lose), or it’s not Bretts fault. You are losers and will always be losers. How is that Favre thing working out for, and I saw on TV, we still have better looking cheerleaders. Go Fins!

  36. By PurplePeopleEater on Sep 19, 2010 | Reply

Carl K – no you’re not. A Wildcat offense seemed like a no-brainer on the short yardage situations we were in. Gives the possibility of the QB taking the ball across the marker on his own. I was screaming to put in a Wild Card situation on the 4th & Shorts. Twice a QB keeper would have done enough to cross the line, if we had a in with a little leg strength. But for some reason that is the only position on the field that the coaches don’t want to change on special situations.

The Viqueens are a 10-6 team at best this year. I’ve been saying all along their schedule is far too difficult to have even a hint of last season’s magic.

Favre fully admits he blew those throws – like the one he should’ve thrown to a wide open Shank but he instead forced the play to Bernard. Favre is old and cannot see good anymore.

They choose to come out of the wood work when things are positive on there end. Why didn’t you post on here when the Vikes kicked your bootie last year, seriously?

In Favre’s defense, he has to have someone to throw to. I think he made some bad decisions today, but I don’t think that means the season is over. I often wonder why we aren’t seeing Joe Webb from time to time in the wildcat formation to give Favre a break now and then.

Loomis – Frazier’s Defense allowed 1 bad drive the entire game. Like last week, they gave up a TD in the opening drive and then held them to justabout nothing for the rest of the game. The other TD they scored was scored by Miami’s Defense on the fumble recovery in the endzone.

Passing D has been questionable, but they have come up strong in comparison to the situations they were put in. Injured CBs will be healthy soon and the passing Defense will improve along with them. If only the offense could do something in the redzone, we might stand a chance in a couple games this year.

I’m a huge Vikings fan and I was super excited to have Brett back this year. But, this is not the same team. The gas is running out. Favre isn’t 100% physically. The offensive line is not protecting. The defense has lost a step. And, the play calling is atrocious. The idea at the start of last year playing against horrible teams was to let AP be in control of the ball on offense and use Favre and the passing game when we needed to. Now all of a sudden it’s like we’re trying to win every game with Favre’s arm. Favre wasn’t Favre until mid-to late season last year.

Our schedule is brutal. I seriously see us winning 5…maybe 6 games this year. And, that really sucks. I had high hopes when they brought #4 back this year. But, the magic is gone. Even if he does start playing better…it won’t matter. He can’t win them all for us.

Even if the Vikes get Vincent Jackson, how much of an impact can he have coming in mid-season? He won’t know the offense or the plays. Favre will have to baby-step him. He may be able to have an impact by week 8 or 9, but by then Vikes could be 0-9.

The OLine for the Vikes is a huge concern right now.

Every year he is getting better and after learning a few new tricks from Brett Favre from watching him for over a season he is ready. His season passer ratings have gone from the 70s in 07, to 95 in 08, and last year it was 113 for the time he played. Brett Favre is used up. Give Jackson, a real viking unlike favre, a decent shot.

Alright, the biggest problem with our team right now is the O-Line. Farve is rushed and AP has no slot to run though. Is Farve showing his age more this years? Yes. But he can still lead this team to some wins. Getting V. Jack will help, but alot things need to happen if we have any chance of making a wild card this year. If we can’t win next weeks against the Lions our post season asperations are finished. This is a huge game in the NFC we need to win to have any chance at all this season.

  103. By WAVikesFan on Sep 19, 2010 | Reply

Give it up on T-joke already. He is NEVER going to take this team to a S/B. Did he do anything in pre-season? NO. He had one okay season with the Vikings, but it was because AP had an outstanding season and the run game allowed him to throw the ball to a good group of WRs. “Jackson Advocate”??? c’mon man!

Ha Jackson advocate, please prove to me why Tjoke should start. What do you base your decision on? Stats? His ability to read defenses? His leadership qualities? His ability to make players around him better? His ability to make calls at the line of scrimmage? His ability to create miracles? Tell me why when Tjack is in the game that their are 9 defensive players in the box? Tell me what defense fears Tjoke? Tell me all your reasonable arguments that Tjoke should replace one of the greatest Qb’s of all time. Tell me what college Tjoke went to? Tell me how many passing records he owns? Iam sick and tired of the mentally insane telling us that Tjoke is a starting Qb in the NFL. Joe Webb is a far superior athlete and better Qb or Wr than Tjoke, I know you love your son, but stop, this is our team and our team cannot win with your son

I remember last year when people were starting to write the Packers and Cowboys off because they lost several games to start the season. they both made the playoffs…the Packers were 4-4 at one point and even lost to the Bucaneers, then they wound up going 11-5. would it have been nice to win the first 2 games? of course. but it’s not the end of the world yet. it’s two games, let just see where they go from here. I’m still confused on why the Vikings don’t get another wide reciever. Percy isn’t up to speed yet and he’s also injured. Percy and Sid were Brett’s top receivers last year…we can’t afford to not get another GOOD wide receiver.

London, the decision is based on the fact that FAVRE, the only other choice we have, had a WORSE START this year than Jackson had 2 years ago! The guy is in his 5th year, and has improved. Aaron Rodgers played worse in his 4th year than Jackson did back in ’08 during his 3rd year. The Packers went 13-3 the year before that, and dropped to 6-10 with Rodgers at the helm in his 4th YEAR. But the team wasn’t as short sighted as our fan base, who thinks that if a guy isn’t a superstar the second he steps onto the field, then he never will come close.
NONE OF YOU HAVE SEEN JACKSON FOR MORE THAN 2 CONSECUTIVE SERIES IN THE PAST YEAR AND A HALF. Yet so many are convinced that they know that Jackson is so much worse than Mr. Interception with the #4 on his back.
@LONDON – Just what do you know about either player’s (Favre or Jackson) Ability to Lead Defenses, His ability to make players around him better, His ability to make calls at the line of scrimmage, His ability to create miracles, what defense fear either? It sure as hèll looked like Grand Master Favre lost ALL of those abilities this year. So how can you honestly know about Jackson’s abilities in the same manor after not seeing him play for 2 years?

Just what reason does the college a guy went to make a difference in how he plays 5 (or 20) years afterwards? And just what difference do former records make if your current performances show that you are FAR past your prime?

  121. By jim s on Sep 19, 2010 | Reply

Who have the Packers beat? If Vick would have started at QB instead of the other guy, Eagles win and the Bills might end up with the leagues worst record this year. I think they were close last year.

The problem is Minnesota need a real coach! I never saw a head coach kiss up to his QB like Chilli did Farve let alone the players who went to Mississippi to get him, just embarrassing!! Offensive play calling is not to creative, why doesn’t Harvin come around the back field like the Vikes are running a reverse, to keep the Defense honest time to time for our running attack for example. I like Farve but I said the Vikes should of went with TJack. If Chilli scrutinized Farve last year for changing a play, how much freedom do anyone think TJack has? He may be better than we think, maybe Chilli has his hands tied and he’s to busy thinking about doing the right thing instead of playing the game. I think the bad decisions have the team split and they have little respect for the coach. Tjack 2008 stats are better than Farves 2010 stats but both started 0-2, the 2010 Vikes have better talent on both sides of the ball than the 2008 Vikes and everyone dogged TJack. WHY?

Here is the end story – Poindexter (Chilly) goes for it in 4th on first drive when in FG range for perhaps the best kicker in history…. Just gives it away… then we were in 4th and goals and need to go for them later due to being more than 3 down…. reflect on the opening drive no… and none of you mention that! Berrian has the sideline and he steps out on the back shoulder throw and the corner falls down…. Klein-hopper stumbles and falls with virtually NO ONE between him and goalline, and all he need do is stay on his feet, on Favre’s scramble throw… This team is playing like they have no interest in winning ball – Joe Dugan? Tahi? Klein-hopper? Poindexter’s love affair with under-talented, heaps of dung – he has always done it (Artouse Pinner, Billy McMullin…) We will NOT take the next step with Childress – we have gone BACKward in a year! LONDON – THE GAME SPEAKS FOR ITSELF! I have not seen TJack play in so long that I am not going to think that he hasn’t improved. But tell me just how many QBs have gotten worse in their 4th and 5th years? Compare that to how many QBs have gotten worse in their 20th years? Okay, Favre is about the only option to compare to, because all the others deteriorated before then. I applaud Favre for remaining in the game so long, he truly is the iron man. But the iron has finally rusted over. The last two games show that. It’s time to trade him in for the new model.

Do you want to know why the team went to ask him to come back? Because of how well he did the YEAR BEFORE. He is NOT THE SAME PLAYER THIS YEAR.

YOU HAVE YET TO GIVE ME ONE SPECIFIC ARGUMENT THAT SHOWS FAVRE HASN’T LOST WHAT IT TAKES TO WIN IN THE NFL. FAVRE HIMSELF HAS YET TO SHOW ME THAT HE HAS WHAT IT TAKES.

Don’t go around trying to point out some phantom stupidity as a dodge to hide your own. Try some intellectual debate and convince me that I’m wrong. I listen to the opposition more than you would like to believe.

London, stop shooting down the competition before knowing the response.

In response to your preseason question, do you remember how many chances TJack got to play in the preseason? That’s right, he was not given the chance to play more than 2 series in a game in the preseason because the coaches already were confident in his abilities (relating to your comment about coaching support as well).

Your comment on TJack winning the superbowl is rather moot. Favre hasn’t won the Superbowl in 13 years, which just might say something about how Favre may have declined over the past decade. Not to mention that the Super Bowl Favre won was in his 5th year in the NFl…sounds like a familiar number doesn’t it? And that is just a statistic for a future Hall of Famer, which I never claimed Jackson would be, just that he has become better than Favre has deteriorated to now.

Please tell me, what has Favre done THIS YEAR to prove that he still has what it takes to win in the NFL? The pre-season didn’t see much of him, but the little he did play he didn’t produce. The regular season has yet to see him do anything even close to MVP quality.

28 had a good day because 28 is so awesome and wants it more than just about anybody else. Peterson was awesome before Favre was a Viking and I believe he will continue to be awesome as long as he remains healthy.

TJACK on the other hand has not had a chance to show the fans what he can do, so I honestly cannot tell you how much better he is now than when he took over for the injured Frerrotte and saved the team from a loss to AZ, and then led the team to the playoffs. Yes he lost his first game in the playoffs, but are you going to tell me that means that he will never be able to win? He is still young, and can still impress, if only we refrain from making ignorant accusations and give him the chance to.

I could be wrong, TJack may have deteriorated, but there is no reason to believe that after he watched Brett play for more than a year now. Sure he’s no ARod, but that was the most recent example I could use to show you the flaws in your arguments. Give the guy a chance, because I have a very hard time believing that even an average backup would perform as poorly against a team as mediocre as the Dolphins as Brett did today.

Week 1 showed we needed some WR(s)…(so we say we will make adjustments, no worries) week 2 shows we need WR(s) (so we just say hey there is 14 weeks left) week 3 is going to show we need WR(s) and if it continues and management refuses to get some WR(s) and pay whatever needs to be paid, the only week we will win is week 4 (our by week).

It makes me mad management says they are all in, but in reality they are all in for trying to move the team from MN.

As a long time Viking fan, I am sick of the disappointment, false promises by management and giving the games to a team with less talent than our own.

That being said I will still go for the Vikings till the day I die (even if we dont get any WR(s)…..Please get some WR(s)….lol)

Miami played with more emotion for the entire game. For some reason it took the Vikings until the second half to match thier intensity. Thats not home field attitude… Besides punt return, I did not see one play on offense for Camarillo. Bench Mr, Invisible (Berrian) and play Camaillo, he will give you his best-every down.

Our DEFENSE SEEMS TO LACK FIRE. Our OFFENSIVE LINE has been OUTPLAYED.

@Paul, I don’t ride bandwagons. Bandwagons break down too easily. I’m just saying that there is a better option on the team than a guy who turns the ball over 3 times a game. If you can’t find an open receiver, throw the ball away, especially if you don’t have a receiver that will fight for the catch; Brett is old enough that he should understand that philosophy by now. But he’s trying to do too much and is costing the entire team because of it.

I’ll still root for the Vikings as long as they exist, no matter where they exist. But I like many others am frustrated by how much potential this team is wasting right now.

First off, you really need to stop calling people “idot”s when you mean to call them an “idiot.” It only calls yourself out as the ignorant fool you are trying to pin on someone else.

Next, I could care less if TJack has yet to prove that he can do all those things you describe after the Holy Man Brett Favre has proven that he NO LONGER CAN do any of those things. TJack at least still has the potential to pick a few of them up.

Finally, I have absolutely no relationship to TJack or have I ever even met him or gotten his signature. In fact, none of my ancestors even originate from countries that his do. So please, once again, stop creating meaningless and pointless arguments to fill in for the voids in intelligent arguments that you are having trouble throwing out.

One more interesting stat – Favre is 3rd on the list of most losses for a QB, behind Tarkenton and Testaverde. Sounds scary huh? Statistics can be used to twist a lot of truths. The simple matter of fact is that because Favre has been around so long and has been so good for that time he owns a lot of the records, good and bad. But with the way he is performing this year, he will continue to build upon the bad records much quicker than the good ones.

WTF, your assertions are partially correct in that Brett had a bad game… but in the NFL “separation” between receiver is everything, and OUR guys get NONE. So is Favre just supposed to throw everything away? He made a couple bad decisions, but a line that does not give him time and the near CERTAINTY that his receivers will NOT be open, and IF he gets the ball to them, will they CATCH it???? You have NO IDEA how that stuff can mess with your head, no matter how long and well a guy has played! Ou rguys do not inspire confidence nor performance from a QB…. Did you hear Favre’s presser? You hear what he says about Berrian? He was ASKED if that is working… and Favre said something to the effect, you play with the guys you bring… NOT a resounding praise or affirmation of the guy. Like many fans here say, BERRIAN is more the problem than is Favre. When you have NO go-to guy, you have no passing game. Berrian is a failure. Berrian is stealing by cashing his checks! —- and so is Bryant McKinnie, by the way.

Favre has NOT been sharp – but it is erroneous to think, however, that THAT is the reason Jackson is a better QB. Can’t even go there in my mind. Have plenty of reason to be upset about the way Favre played, but Harvin was the cause of one Int and at the goal-line, no less. Loadholt was the reason for the sack and fumble TD for Fins, and while the back shoulder throw Favre had a better option in Shiancoe wide open, he played his gut and he was wrong – but WHOM was it on the receiving end, that virtually did NOT react to the ball and did nothing to knock it away??? Berrian. Drops FC punts, can’t and WON’T block, he stepped out on the only catch he had, and the corner fell, so there was NOTHING between him and the end zone… Favre’s #2 guy is Greg Lewis???? Darrius Reynaud was better than BOTH of these guys… Javon Walker is better than Berrian, has a little toughness at least. Berrian is blown glass – mark his a$$ “fragile” and ship him away asap!

——— Yes, thanks, Poindexter! Few fans speak of it, so your secret buffoonery is safe with me… but NOT kicking an opening game field goal might have proven WAY more harmful than you had thought… playing with bravado and NOT your brain (that darn Dome does indeed make it hard for you to think, I can see by your game management today). NOT taking points when you have perhaps the greatest kicker of all time, guy who hits about 85% from that 40-45 distance, who hit 100% of kicks longer than 50 last year…. forgoing those early points basically put you in position where you HAD to go for it in 4th down at the goal line – instead of kicking what would have been a game winning field goal…. also WTF, you are saying that it is apparent that brett has lost his game…ok… remember last year? he barely had 200 yeards in the first two games… If he didnt throw those picks, you wouldnt say anything about what is going on right now. He is producing more by way of yards, he has just made some stupid throws because he has no receivers. Again, after a less than decent start,,,,, favre had an mvp season last year, so by your logic, that would mean that you are wrong because you are looking for numbers and yet last year his numbers were poor at the start of the season. People like you love to whine and gripe, but if they end up doing great you will jump back on the bandwagon and act like Tavaris could be a pro bowler even though his own teamattes do not think so. It is almost kind of humorous talking to you.

Do you guys really pay that close atention to the O-Line? Every now and then I see someone blowing by mcKinnie, but other than that how do you keep your attention on who’s missing what assignments over everything else that’s happening on the field?

—— It ALL starts on the line, it is where EVERY game is won or lost, the D and O lines are the game. When Favre gets toasted from behind in the end zone, (the points that won this game) it was Loadholt fan that led to it… It is easy to see the connection when you look past the QB abd running back. Watch the line play and you can see REAl good football teams and ours is NOT real good right now. They need some attitude adjustment and run about 20 lbs off McKinnie!

I gave Favre the benefit of the doubt last year. He had just jumped on board with very little time to prepare. This year he had the entire offseason. If nothing else, he FAILED the team by thinking he can sit out of practice and still win. AND OF COURSE I WOULDN’T SAY ANYTHING ABOUT WHAT IS GOING ON RIGHT NOW IF HE DIDN’T THROW THOSE PICKS YOU BRAIN DEAD RÆTARD! IF HE DIDN’T THROW THOSE PICKS THE GAME WOULD HAVE HAD AN ENORMOUSLY DIFFERENT OUTCOME!! THE FÚCKER GAVE AWAY THE GAME WITH ALL THOSE INTS! THERE IS NO BANDWAGON HERE! IF THE GUY ISN’T READY, DON’T LET HIM PLAY!!! WHY DO YOU THINK CAMARILLO ISN’T GETTING MORE THAN 5 SNAPS A GAME? BECAUSE HE IS NOT READY! ONCE HE IS READY HE’LL BE TAKING THE PLACE OF BERRIAN UNLESS BERRIAN DOES A 180! THE QB SHOULD BE TREATED NO DIFFERENTLY. does anyone remember the Packers going 3-0 in 2008 and then they went 6-10? did the Vikings go 0-2 that same year and then went 10-6? I could be wrong but I think that’s what happened. I know the Vikings have issues and need to get their stuff together, but it’s way too early to jump ship. The Denver Broncos went 6-0 last year and then ended up 9-7. It’s great to start off strong, but it doesn’t guarantee you finish strong. now if they lose to the Lions next week, then I’ll start worrying. Favre had great chemistry with Rice and Harvin early on…clearly that was a huge help last year. so far, Shianco has lead in yards that past two games…..when your tight end is leading in reception yards two games in a row, you know there’s issues at wide receiver

I just talked to Tim Brewster and we will be holding a coach’s clinic on teaching the fundamentals of how to motivate your team. Bonus topics include clutch decision making, how to handle the media after a ‘tough’ loss, and the always popular why I’m the best coach for my Minnesota team.

You know WTF, your argument is half good, but you lose your audience in debate when you dumb down to the offensive… as to Bruce, you are kidding right??? MOST of his completions were due to great receivers making adjustments??? That is some high flying Bull pooh if I ever heard it. Fans prove themselves full of attitude and opinion. I played enough ball to know ALL the elements that lead to a 3 int game, they are not usually the QBs alone – as it was today… Harvin dropped the ball at the goal line…. THAT one alone was the difference in this game…. Chilly NOT kicking the early FG first drive, THAT was answered by BIG play and all the momentum by the Fins…. Thse TWO moments had more to do with this loss than anything else – the fumble as well, and THAT was on Loadholt… Your point is correct and valid, you don’t just jump out of your “snuggie” and onto an NFL football field. But again, if you had to throw to that assembly of bobbleheads (Berrian grand Pulbah) then YOU would better understand. The old saying about the sow’s ear…. it is more true than you would tend to argue, I am afraid!

WTF, Brett didn’t look that sharp the first three games of last season, but the Vikings could get by b/c they were playing teams that weren’t that great. give it a while longer before you throw him out the door. fans were quick to boo Jackson during the pre-season when he didn’t perform well, and now they’re turning on Favre and calling for Jackson. I think that’s a little silly. Jackson has had some good games, but has looked bad more than he has looked good. Fans have such short memories. this is Jackson’s 5th season…he should be way better than he is by now.

  263. By stephanie on Sep 19, 2010 | Reply

Vlad, I like you. you make too much sense, lol. many great points. the game reminded me of the Saints game last year in that the Vikings outplayed the Dolphins on defense and offense but they just had too many mistakes, including coaching mistakes. they moved the ball up and down the field quite well, they just couldn’t capitalize. and can anyone else agree that Berrian should not be receiving punts? they shouldn’t have gotten rid of Renaud.

    WTF and PurplePeopleEater,
I applaud both of you for being the few that look at FACTS, not just personal emotions. When Sage was traded, I wrote 10 FACTS why T-Jack was better and challenged the 300+ comments to give me a SINGLE FACT as to why Sage was better. NO one could, and I’m sure these are the same people that don’t want to look at Favre’s FACTS the last 3 games. Favre’s the MAIN reason why we’ve lost. Against New Orleans last year with a 70 QB rating and the bone head interception. Plays just as bad last week with a 72 rating and today even worse with a 44 rating. T-Jack has NEVER played that badly over a 3 game stretch; hence, let’s hope that Chilly will have the guts to sit Favre at halftime against the Lions if he continues to play so badly. Then T-Jack can win the game in the 2nd half and lead the Vikes to the playoffs (just like he did 2 years). All of T-Jack’s starts were with a considerably inferior Vikings team (both offense and defense) than now. Also Chilly and Spielman both feel T-Jack has improved each and every year.
    GO VIKES!

  268. By vlad19 on Sep 19, 2010 | Reply

Well said, Stephanie. — Mooch said on NFL netowrk ALL that is true – the passing game is off (understatement) and no screen game… THAT is how you beat a blitzing defense… how many screens did you see last week??? and how many GOOD screens did you see? Any screens today??? At ALL????? Also correct, when your TE leads team in yards and scores…. you have NO receivers, and fans STILL argue about Favre’s failings? Childress had an entire preseason to adjust, (remember, Rice missed ALL of preseason with hip) and he did NOTHING…. and that bunch of buffoons he thinks is an offensive set of weapons is laughable. And Favre has NO trust in these guys – all of that translates into performance – BAD performance. ALL are guilty, not just Favre!

  269. By stephanie on Sep 19, 2010 | Reply

just the facts on t-jack….just so you know stats don’t explain a lot of the game…I have know idea how you could blame the whole Saints loss last year on Brett’s int in the end…if he would have thrown it incomplete it still would have been a 56 yard fieldgoal–no gimme. there were several key fumbles that set the Vikings back. in overtime one of the Vikings dropped an interception from Brees, he should have caught it. if you hate Brett, fine. just admit it. don’t throw out QB ratings as if that explains the whole game. Tom Brady threw three ints in last year’s playoff game…do you blame the whole game on him? no. there were other factors involved. did you see Peyton Manning in last year’s superbowl? he threw a pic 6 at the end of the game and almost threw another in the endzone. do you take him out of the game? of course not. QBs get too much of the glory and too much of the blame.

ALL of that is right out the window with fans who want to say ONE guy is at fault…. I REPEAT – Harvin dropsthe virtual gamewinner, it turned into a Int after the flying Zambini routine…. The fumble was on Loadholt….. and WHOM might you throw to with confidence when they can’t get spearation???? Yea, it is all Favre’s fault… typical, what have you done for me lately fans…. that is not “facts” referencing three games. That does not make Jackson a beter QB. And if you guys really think that football players and coaches know LESS than you, I might recommend a good therapist. Favre has NOTHING to throw at! @vlad19 It’s hard to avoid dumbing down to these guys every now and then. I keep on thinking that they want to debate, but they refuse to try to comprehend the issues.

I agree with what you’re saying about the lack of receivers, but the turnovers still come back to the QB. A guy that is touted so highly for reading defenses should know where the openings on the field are going to be, and he should know where the blitzers are coming from. We would have done a lot better if Favre didn’t try so hard and often to take more than what was there.

@Stephanie I understand we had a soft schedule early on last week, which why I didn’t say anything against Favre in game 1 against the Super Bowl Champs. But I consider Miami to be a softer team, and with it being a home game this should have been a relatively easy win. 4 turnovers says that we made some huge mistakes all over the offense, which I place mainly on the guy who is taking the snaps and giving up the turnovers.

The QB is only as good as the receivers he has…This is coming from a person who played football his whole life not a random idiot who knows nothing about the game. I do wonder if we did let tjack play a 4th quarter what could he do…My fear is that he wouldnt be able to do any better but worth a shot in the last 2 games I suppose you can find reason either way….Stay with Favre or See what TJ can do in 15 minutes…The offense has been stale we need something to wake it up..

if we’re going off of stats, here are Tavaris Jackson’s career stats: in 33 games he has 21 TDs and 18 INTs. His career QB rating is 77.9. he should have looked a lot better in the preseason than he did since this is his 5th season. He’s had some decent games, but he’s never shown a huge promise of being a franchise QB. he’s up and down. he just seems to check down all the time. I can’t see him going down the field with the game on the line and winning it for the Vikings. will Favre do it everytime? no, no QB does. but the Vikings have a better shot than with Jackson. based on how well Brett played last year and the fact that the Vikings players went down to get him, I think the players all stand behind Brett pretty strongly. it would be rediculous to bench him in favor of Jackson. why did the Vikings beg him to play for them 2 years in a row if they felt confident with Jackson?

  287. By vlad19 on Sep 19, 2010 | Reply

WTF, I understand, but your stout arguemnt is not all reasonable either. I repeat, Harvin dropped a ball that any professional catches… it turns into an int on the 1 yd line… THAT play alone is a winning play had he caught it…. Loadholt fans on his block and Favre is blinsided and the fumble TD…. NOT Favre’s doing. Berrian on the back shoulder throw to goal line. did SQUAT to fight for position, or try and break it up. He just hugs the guy. BAD throw? You bet, when he had an open Shiancoe as welll, and it was the “double sticks” call to go to the right… so yes, bad decision, bad throw. But Rice would not just let the corner step in and NOT do anything to break it up… And the LONG pass too, Berrian keeps running through, as if he will catch that ball on his hip, and thesafety and corner are in short position…. I played WR and you slow and go UP to highest ppoint on that ball to have any chance. Bad throw? Yep, but your job is to CATCH it, or at least knock it down… Berrian then turns to complain to the ref, while he could have downed the guy at the 15….. Favre was not as bad as Berrian guys. Berrian is on the sheets list right now, I promise you. Reynaud might be called up in fact, or Jackson might be reality. But to put all of this on Favre tells a football player you do not know much about football. Sorry. You make good points, but vehemently say it is Favre…. you need to look at ALL of this game. Favre has NOBODY to throw to. Jackson is probably HAPPY he is not called on with that crummy bunch of receivers…..

  288. By ORVikingFan on Sep 19, 2010 | Reply

I agree Viking-ology…..Once we get a receiver and than 2 (when rice comes back) we will be on a roll…When that happens BB will start working like the NFC Champ game and Percy (if the MRI is clear) will be in it as well…You have a good pass game and your running becomes more dangerous…Imagine AP 140+ yrds today and Miami knew we had to run because we had no one to throw to.

AGREED, but there is not a team in the league that will take Baby Smurf Berrian with his ridiculous contract…. You surely are not going to get Jackson for Berrian and a pick… but I sure wish! Did you hear what Favre said about Berrian? When asked he said something like, “Well, you play with the guy syou got…” incriminating indictment. I have NEVER seen him fight for a ball and he is not about to go acroiss the middle, so how hard is it to cover a guy that you KNOW is going to play outside??? You take his inside shoulder and shove him away and play him away… the easiest guy in the NFL to cover. Punch him in the mouth and he is done duck!

Favre spent most of his career throwing ball into tight coverage even double and triple coverage. He just can’t do it any more. Look at most of his throws and you will see under throws and over throws. The only td pass was a GREAT catch by Shiancoe not a accurate pass by Brett.

@stephanie Maybe the Vikings went down to Mississippi because they knew he was còming back, and just wanted to convince him to make the decision while there was still time to practice together before game1. Maybe they did it to build publicity. I know this whole primadonna thing disgusts a lot of people, but it sells. The fact of the matter is that most people didn’t have a question in thier minds that Brett was going to come back, we just weren’t certain how much of the preseason he was going to sit out.

Jackson’s stats have improved every year. Granted last year wasn’t much of a test to his skills as he only came in after the game was well decided, but the pásser rating went up from 62.5 in 06, to 95.4 in 08 to 113.4 in 09. But still people write him off as not having a chance, for reasons I can only guess at. I’d like to just SEE him play an adequate amount in a real gametime situation to see if he has a chance to lead a team yet or if all the people that I have written off as unforgiving jërks actually are on the level.

You know, there is all this assumption that a QB must be absolutely precise all the time…. not true, that is why receivers and guys like Peterson make their money… helk, at 52 I could still go out and catch the perfectly thrown ball… it is the tough catches that make a QB good. ll this, “He had to jump for it..” Man, you guys think throwing a ball is really that easy? You might want to try it yourself with 300 pound guys running around you trying to knock you out, and guys that run 4.340s are chasging YOUR receivers around….. Yea, real easy job…. I say his receivers BETTER learn to go after a football and make plays…. Marcus Colston anybody??? Tony Gonzalez anybody??? Roddy White anyone? Sydney Rice anyone??? I love it. Jackson didn’t even play and people are still ripping him. Total morons. You guys just keep on talking about what Favre has done in the past (1 Superbowl)If TJ started this year, we would be 2-0, plain and simple. Favre is totally embarassing himself out there and making the Vikings organization look like a joke. I usually defend coach Childress but I am thinking now maybe he should be fired, mainly because he allowed Favre to join the team again this year. Especially after missing training camp. Again. Why does Favre get this kind of special treatment? It’s a total joke and I am glad the Vikes are 0-2 because now maybe all the Favre lovers will wake up (doubt it) and realize that his career should end immediately. Poor Brett, he doesn’thave Sidney Rice to throw too, Poor Brett, they don’t know how create a game plan. Never Bretts fault is it? Always an excuse. I feel bad for Adrian Peterson for having to lose after playing such a great game. “Brett Favres Team”? Whatever. Put in Jackson and maybe we can salvage the season. @vlad19 still I have to argue that we offered him an extra $7 mil beyond the guaranteed $13 for the year because he was going to be expected to make the weaker receivers stand out. People have argued time and again that Favre makes average receivers look like pro-bowlers, but I haven’t seen anything close to this in the last 2 games, which is why I think there is something that he has lost from years past.

Agreed Viking-ology – but the Berrian is a deal we are going to have to eat. New money is what is necessary to get a receiver, OR go back to waiver wire, or practice squad. Not sure who or what, but isn’t Reynaud protected on PS? Javon Walker will fight for a ball, I assure you that! Berrian is the example of BAD front office decision and it gets worse each day because they do NOTHING about him… you see the one catch he had on the back shoulder throw, the corner falls down, but Berrian was so afraid of getting hit as he spun around to turn up field, he immediately steps out becaese HE FULL EXPECTED TO GET HIT… and then he slams the ball when he sees the guy was laid out on the turf…. THAT is Baby Smurf Berrian…

Vlad: I played the game as well my whole life…I played WR/TE (Big but only had like 4.8 speed so I played alot of the passing downs tho I did have to block ever once and again)…lol….You need a receiver in order to be good…Otherwise you throw 8 in the box all day cuz your dbs can cover the other teams WR and you get shut down…Like the Vikes have been shut down on off. 19 points in 2 games….Not because Favre, not because of the dbs (they have done well considering we have our 2nd string in) but because when you dont have a receiver to throw to…you are easy to beat….Especially when you have a QB like Favre that demands respect….True he lost some arm (if he could of thrown further in the Double Coverage maybe BB would of tried harder but BB gets millions a year…you go after that ball….Thats what you are paid for!

Vlad…you’re right! that’s exactly why QB’s LOVE great receivers….b/c they don’t HAVE to be perfect everytime they throw the ball, which is very hard to do. you think Tom Brady doesn’t love having Randy Moss and Wes Welker? just look at the Packers recievers (sorry to bring them up)….I just wish Sidney would have had surgery in the off-season.

WTF, I guess I really believe that Brett was leaning towards retirement. he had several reasons to be hesitant about coming back like: how could he top last year, how will his body hold up (ankle especially), does he want to go through all the hard work each week to prepare, what if he doesn’t play well, the schedule is much harder this year, what if they don’t go all the way (he was extremely disappointed with how last season ended (we all were)….all those questions entered his mind legitimately so it wasn’t just a given he would come back, even though people thought it was. any person in his situation would be hesitant about coming back. I just believe he loves the guys on this team enough (and they wanted him back) he knew they were a good enough team that they convinced him to come back. I think he actually decided to retire and then they told him to reconsider. anyways, if you don’t like Brett then I guess you’ll see things differently. I can’t convince you probably, but oh well, just thought I’d share that.

WTF….That is a great point…A very great point! I was starting to wonder if you were a VIKING Fan….I will say sorry now :-)

still I have to argue that we offered him an extra $7 mil beyond the guaranteed $13 for the year because he was going to be expected to make the weaker receivers stand out. People have argued time and again that Favre makes average receivers look like pro-bowlers, but I haven’t seen anything close to this in the last 2 games, which is why I think there is something that he has lost from years past

I’m surprised that JJohnson was put on IR for a broken thumb. According to Wikipedia (bad reference I know, but it’s the easiest) he was acclaimed as the hardest worker on the team by Chilly, and could really be a big asset if we moved him on the roster in place of BB. I always liked JJohnson, and expected him to start to become a decent receiver, but he just never gets into the game.

Not so, and IMPOSSIBLE. A guy can surely make receivers better, but Favre is not in shape, we ALL agree. But there is NOTHING that will help, Berrian, Lewis, Shioncoe, Tahi, Dugan, Kleimsasser, Camarillo look GOOD? Impossible. Some of these guys are good enough, but as the peripheral guys, NOT the go to guys. But I agree, Favre played this for everything… and I agree it was an embarrassing drama…. but I completely disagree with the pig-headed guys like purple08 (probably never played in his life and if so a nose tackle). A QB cannot cure what ails this team. Offenisve line that has been bad to average, Peterson made most of his yards himself, no gashes anywhere, HE made the yds practically alone… and STILL they could get no passing game because no receiving corps to talk about, except for their ineptitude…. NOT Favre’s fault, but the easy complaint has never sought truth as Purple08 speaks from the windbag, not a place of knowledge. But opinions are like… well you know.

Logan Payne was one guy that I really liked in the off-season, and he would be my top pick from the practice squad.

Also, as I said earlier, I would like to See Jaymar Johnson come off the Injured Reserve if possible. He always looks like he’s a step away from being a top-notch receiver in the NFL.

I’m usually careful before I jump to conclusions one way of the other, b/c people who do that can often end up looking stupid. let’s just wait and see. look at most of the commentators–they are usually eating their words by the end of the season.

You look at all the GOOD QBs in the league, and they ALL have top notch talent to throw to… EVERY darn one of them. Name them and I can name you two or more guys that have that go-to ability… every one of them. But name ONE guy of the Vikes receiving corps and your argument WHY they are one of the best in the league… or a quality “go-to” guy in the least… Name ONE! You can’t, cause none of them are anything but secondary talent at best…. And GB has about 5 of them guys… Greg Jennings? Driver? Finley? — WHY can one Org get real talent while we get guys like Troy Williamson???? Rice is our lone talent receiver we have pulled in draft in how many years???? THERE is our chronic problem… this has far less to do with Favre than receivers… Receivers tkae GREAT pride in making their QBs look good…. Our guys have NO chance of making Favre looko good – THUS Favre looking BAD! Give him Jackson and Rice and yes, suddenly Shiancoe is that much better, Harvin is now a dangerous beast down the middle seam…. It takes the go to guys to make top flight passing games. – all those who just want to heap on Favre, have at it. But it is not accurate. He is NOT a 30 yr old, but he is still better than most QBs in the NFL (you guys have very short memories too if you do not remember last year).

But without Rice we have no realistic deep threat. That makes me want to work in the Wildcat more than ever this week, because it would work well with the talent that we have (a lot of short range posession receivers and some good runners) until Rice gets back.

Valid point, WTF, and I am not downselling Percy, he is a niche player and a huge talent, but he is NOT a gamechanger by himself, not a chance. THAT is what I call a “go-to” guy. Granted he is one of our best, but what made him a sensation was the ability to go anywhere at anytime…. I could set a defense against the Vikes right now easily. Taking Baby Smurf out is easy, nickel guy on Harvin as he is as much a running back as a WR, he is a slot back, not a split end, stretch the field guy. He is a possession guy, first down conversion guy… but closing down Berrian, NOT even worrying about man-to man on either WR, Lewis is no better than Berrian, and you get SS on Shiancoe in passing downs… This will shut Vikes down, alternate blitz package enough to make Favre be thinking.

HOLY SMOKES – thi sis lunacy… You don;t know a thing you are talking about. Ask ANY football player if Harvin’s was a drop.. this is the sheer nonsense I was referring to, a QB must be absolutely precise at ALL times. The fact is if you knew anything about the game, throwing that seam, Harvin needs to ease into that seam and if Favre threw to perfectly lead him, he would be throwing into the safety – INTO coverage and sure Int. Harvin had to slow, he did not have to dive, but he DID try and catch it on his chest and THAT is why that clunked out… And Kleinsasser, you are MAD. Favre is running out and around out of the pocket pulling the coverage to him and lobs the easiest ball in the world to Klein-hopper and he only needs to finsih his coffee and then turn and catch.. and he almost dropped it… did you see the replay? he almost dropped that silly floater.. and he FALLS with NO ONE between him and the goal line… and that is Favre’s problem… YOU are my point when a fan just has tha capacity to understand the linear aspects of the game… Favre made that guy reach, so bad favre…. He is not THAT dangerous, you still cover him with LB. He is not reliable yet and they don;t have gameplan with him going deeper than seam routes, LBs can cover him all day – bad ones we can exploit, but vs good LBs Peterson is not much of a threat, alas. If a QB must stay back there and get blasted by defensive linemen, when his offensive linemen don’t do their job…. right? So the individual must make plays when he has the opportunity – that is what good players do… how many good plays did Berrien make? I’d still say that drop wouldn’t have happened if they had more practice time together. That one is on both of them though. Favre missed training camp and a lot of preseason, but Harvin’s issues made him miss plenty of camp and practice this week which made it difficult for the two to get on the same page. He still was one of Favre’s more reliable targets today outside of that drop though.

And it WAS as damaging a play as anything that day. fmfm, not even responding to you – just blabbering your rant is not a discussion, and your knowledge is limited and it is obvious.

First let me say that I’m disgusted with most of these lame ass packer fans who post on your blogs talking sh*t about Favre, there all a bunch of no-life haters plain and simple and I don’t believe they represent the majority of packer fans. I’m a life long packer fan who temporarily finds it really hard to root for them with Favre still in the league so I find myself watching the Vikings games and hoping Favre can somehow get back to the big show one more time.

We have to remember that last year, Favre had a chance to play with a truly great receiver in Sidney Rice, honestly, that’s the 2nd best receiver he’s ever played with, with Sterling Sharp early in his career probably being the best. Also, in games 1 and 2 last year, Favre wasn’t great either, its just that those two teams were weak, that’s not the case this year and its showing.

The thing about Favre that I’ve come to realize over the years is that when he’s off, he’s really off and when he’s on he’s really on. For me, the turning point in today’s game was when Percy Harvin dropped that pass for what would have been a touchdown, it hit him right in the chest, so he should have caught it, but to make matters worse, it bounced off him for an int. Had he caught that, Favre, would have gotten some of his mojo back and I think they would have been off and running.

I wouldn’t give up on the season yet, but the Vikes do need to go out and pick up Jackson from SD, he’s a big receiver who will create space with his body and Favre will use him a lot like he used Sidney Rice last year, if they can just make it to the 6th game at 3-3 and they get Rice back around the 7th or 8th game and add Jackson at the 5th game, things may really turn around. Another big thing missing this year is the return game, with Percy ailing, its been pretty much non-existent.

Things will turn around in Detroit next week, I once saw Favre start the season 0-8 and win the next 8 games to finish 8-8 and miss the playoffs by one game. I wouldn’t be suprised if the vikings win 9 or 10 in a row at the end of this season, if they can just split the first 6.

  353. By Lito on Sep 20, 2010 | Reply

Are the Vikings unable to design one play for Joe Webb? He can be an offensive weapon. Percy Harvin is “delicate” and will be a perinneal player on the injured list every game. The receiving corp is impotent – no threat at all. The Vikes are not “all in.” Apart from the Dallas game last year, why can’t they dominate? Talk less and practice more. No excuses please.

If i were chilly i would let favre call the plays at this point. cause you would see petersons touches go from 20 to 25 a game to 30 and beyond kinda like what chuck foreman did back in the days . give peterson the rock any way you can, and the vikes will ride this out till help comes, favre knows this, anyone who saw the game today knows this.put the team on his back chilly, WE cant start the season 0 and 4 or 5 you can still salvage the season chilly just try to think more like bud grant would and dont listen to the stadic that goes on in your brain. its pretty easy to get under WTFs skin, very easy in fact. You still never answered the question, anc according to your logic we should bench players if they throw interception cause they cant bounce out of it. If that is the case then I guess you would have to bench people like peyton manning who throw five interceptions in one game and then still have a chance to win the game…. oh wait, that sounds familiar. Give Favre a receiver to throw to, and we will see what happens,,, oh yeah the nfc championship. Or we can go with your way of reasoning and give it to T jack and watch him run all over the field and not be a good passer. Again, even his own teammates do not think he is good enough. You do though, again I would ask where do you know more then the guys he actually plays with. You have yet to answer that question probably because you cant. Get a little emotional again though,, it was funny.

London, first of all Favre is not even close to being the greatest QB of all time, he could not carry Montanas jockstrap. Not to mention Manning, Brady, Bradshaw, Unitas etc…the list goes on. Even if he was the greatest, he is not anymore. He is finished. That is my point. It is not that T-Jack is better than Favre was, he is better than Favre IS right now. I am so tired of Vikings fans defending a guy who was our arch rival for 15 years and then comes over for 1 season and is all of a sudden loved by all. I just wish everyone would call a spade a spade when it comes to Favres performance. He has stunk this year and people are still saying it is Favre or bust? Gimme a break. Lets not waste our chance at a Championship by hoping some past magic will reappear all of a sudden and Favre will become young again. His body can no longer perform at a level that is needed to win in the NFL. The dream is over and Favre has set this organization back a couple of years with his charade. The window is closing for this team. Fast. Start T-Jack and we can still make the playoffs. The Packers are already 2 games ahead of us for the division. We will not beat them twice, maybe not even once. Wake up and smell the coffee people.

Purple08. Tjoke is not a leader, he does not have a great arm, he cant audible, he cant read a defense hes not that fast, he only looks at 1 WR, his teamates have no confidence in him, the smart viking fans have no confidence in him, according to your logic Brady and Manning both should be benched because they both threw interceptions. Webb is better than Tjoke…Favre is a wr;s dream he allows them to go out and make plays, bb did not make any plays or attempt to knock down the pass, harvin dropped a TD pass that lead to an interception. Shang dropped a pass right in his hands. 08 check out all the passing records I think that Favre owns just about every single one of them.. With Tjoke at the helm AP will get killed 9 or 10 guys in the box.. No team in the NFL fears Tjoke. Why dont you blame the offensive line for not blocking will enough to produce a game winning TD for AP..Many mistakes Blame Chilly for not taking the 3 points in the first Quarter. Vikings were in winning positions in the 4th quarter in both loses. If you are a true viking fan and truely love the vikings stop blaming Favre and start blaming Chilly and Management. Stop proving that you are insane, Tjoke will never be a strating QB in the NFL, hes not even a a starting QB in college,,

I’m also from WI, and since the Packers booed the one player who helped their franchise win a super bowl, have become a Vikings fan. The GB fans have all wished Brett would get hurt, but be careful what you wish for – maybe it will be Rodgers that goes down, like Grant already has. Now the Vikings fans need to stick together for the TEAM. Nobody likes an 0-2 start, but it’s early and we have a tough schedule ahead and need support, not bashing. If the negativity is catchy it could be trouble. I hope we get some help in the receiving group, but our O line needs to get much better. Hopefully #28 can keep things moving til our passing game improves. Coach Chilly – fire up this team fast!!!!! Good luck with the rest of the season………….GO VIKES!

London?? Where in my comments did you read that my logic dictates Brady and Manning being benched? Brady and Manning are not over 40 years old. I simply stated the fact the Favres glory years are behind him and it was obvious in his play. How does it make you a true Vikings fan by cheering for Brett Favre? Are you an absolute idiot or what? Dump on management and the organization… but don’t dump on a guy who was QB for the hated Packers for years = a true fan? It is clear that you are the one who is insane. What you don’t understand is it is not about T-Jack being bad right now, it is about Favre being terrible. It is about winning games. T-Jack is our best option right now. Also, T-Jack is fast and has a very big arm. I would rather give Jackson one last shot to play out the rest of the year and then decide. Maybe wait until we are 0-4 first though and then it will be too late. Whatever happens, guys like you will find a way to talk about anything but Favre’s performance if it is bad, and nothing but, if it is good.. He can do no wrong. Heck, he might as well keep playing til he’s 50.

ok first of all, i would like to say dont give up on brett yet. i watched him for many years with the packers. trust me. give him time. but our recievers are not playing that great either. berrian can’t catch anything. harvin gets hurt every time he gets hit. but nobody gets open like sidney rice did. so favre stands there trying to find someone open then gets sacked. we need more help at reciever big time. and the o line sucked too yesterday. yeah favre was bad but so was the rest of the offense. i mean our best reciever right now is our tight end. come on. favre is our leader. he is our quarterback. lets not give up on him

The Vikings have put themselves in a must win situation against what appears to be a solid Lions team. The Lions came extremely close in beating the Bears and if it was not for a controversial rule would have came out on top. The Bears are 2-0 and so are the Packers and after next week one of them will be 3-0 with a very high degree of command in the north division. If the Vikings don’t win against the lions they will be 0-3 with a divisional loss behind either the bears or packers with either one or two divisional victories. It is very obvious the due to the receiver situation with Rice out and headaches to Harvin that the training camp was needed to gain valuable timing. I do have a certain amount of difficulty in understanding the strong degree of Farve support from the fans of the Vikings on a player that they undoubted hated for sixteen years and that they have acquired in the winter of his career. It is without question that his departure from the packers was orchestrated and from packer fans viewpoint selfish and ugly due to their many years of their solid support. As with the Caesars of Rome, Farve should have had someone whispering in his ear “beware the ides of March”

Packer / Favre Fan, please remove the “Packer” from your name. No “lifelong Packer fan” cheers for the Vikings. If Favre retires at the end of this year and then joins the Lions next year, you’ll be a Lions fan. Admit it, you disgrace to Packers and Vikings fans everywhere.

4Favre, stop living in the past. It’s stupid to say that Packers fans are bitter just because of what happened to them last year. It would be just as easy to say that the Packers will always be a better team than the Vikings because they have 3 Superbowl rings and the Vikings have none. Neither of the two statements are true.

Both of you need to go cuddle up in your Favre binkies and suckle your Favre dolls before I go all Ted Nugent on you.

I think everyone would conclude that Farve is not the same guy as last year, yet, but hey, look at “young legs Eli” getting ran out of the stadium last night against big brother. If you can’t set up to pass and look down field, even check down, then you force issues, run for your life, get sacked, fumble…

Alot of these QB hurry-ups can be resolved to a large degree with having O-line personnel that have enough guts to dig deep, step up to play smash-mouth football. If any of you Vike players read what us diehard fans are saying about you, take note and take it to heart…, you all have the makings of a great team yet this year, if you want it bad enough…look in the mirror and tell the fans what you see…

The passing corp is in shambles with the exception of the TE, but also, you don’t have your A-game on the field. We gotta go for now at least, with wideouts that get seperation, and if not, still make plays, because just like the O-line, these guys weren’t scouted and drafted because they were dead weight in college, or even in the pros.

Hey the running game came alive yesterday, that was excellent, and yet as some of us fans say, can the head and offensive coaches get a freaki’n clue and show some flair and imagination in the play calling, especially in the red zone? Those poorly executed offensive play calls and subsequent loss yesterday have to be hung on you all first and foremost, and again had a whole lot to do with overly obvious, redundent, and non-risk play calling.

Anyone else see Michigan State win against Norte Dame Saturday night? That’s inspired and gutsy play calling, Vike coaches wake up and take charge and control, learn how to lead and inspire, theres still time this year…

Vikes did turn the ball over but they were good plays by Miami’s D. The person who said “if Vikes don’t turn over the ball 3 times they win” is not seeing the whole picture. Both teams played outstanding D but give Miami credit, when you are on the road in a place the Vikes Dome (with the closed environment, LOUD) and your team has a first yr starter QB, you are not going to open up the offense and pass too many times. So they played it conservative offensively. But Miami’s D played lights out, give them credit. If Ricky Williams does not fumble on the Vikings 2 yard line (TD for Vikes) and Ronnie Brown does not fumble on the Vikes 20 something yard line (field goal) the Viking do not score any points.

As a life-long Vikings fan I cannot place the blame for yesterday’s loss on Brett Favre or the rest of the team on the field. I think this belongs to Chilly and I predict that continued poor coaching decisions will continue to plague our Minnesota Vikings. As fans we can expect a mediocre season at best. Really…go for it on fourth down when Mr. Automatic could have kicked a field goal! DUH!!!!! Yes, Favre threw 3 interceptions, guess what, he’s a 41 year old grandfather…how many other teams have grandparents as their quarterbacks? Chilly, you should have had enough respect for the man to let him retire in peace instead of sending his FORMER team-mates to Mississippi to guilt him into returning. I have seen very little spark on the playing field this season/preseason. The only time there was any energy on the field was during the preseason when Sage was in. I don’t understand the motivation behind trading him, that was just an irresponsible coaching decision. If anyone thinks Tjac will ever be able to lead a team they had better think again…it’s just not there.

The vikings were without a doubt the best team in football last year. They out played the Saints big time in the NFC championship game. The 5 turnovers was the reason they lost. You dont get chances to go to the super bowl very often. It was 11 years (1998) between the vikings championship apperances. We knew their window was closing fast as in this year.So in the off season the brass decides we dont need Boldin or Marshall.Childress trades are only other legitimateback up QB on the roster to the Giants. If they dont go out and get Jackson from the Chargers and turn this season around in a hurry it might be another 11 years before the vikings are super contendres again.Lets get one thing clear. This team will go as far as Brett takes us.TJoke cant play period. He cant read defenses at all.His accuracy is terrible. In other words he sucks.

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR CHILDRESS AND WILF. TRADE FOR VINCENT JACKSON OR RANDY MOSS OR AT LEAST RESIGN J. WALKER. if the Vikes can sign V. Jackson to a 1 year deal, then only give up a 2nd round pick. If the Vikes can afford to sign him to a 2-3 year deal then possibly give up an additional later round draft pick if needed. GIVE FAVRE THE OFFENSIVE WEAPONS HE NEEDS WHILE YOU CAN. FAVRE IS NOT GOING TO BE PLAYING NEXT SEASON. next season the Vikes will need to find another QB. Are the coaches and owners actually serious. with Harvin out, you have 3 WR’s. the loss of Chester Taylor also hurts the Vikes. Vikes also will need the $ to resign Rice and other key players next season.

    Favre’s turnovers hurt the Vikings…
What hurt more was Chilly’s decision to go for it on 4th & 2 rather than attempt the field goal. It’s not as if Longwell has an accuracy issue or cannot convert the average FG attempt. Had they cashed in the attempt for 3 points, the Vikes could have won with a FG late in the game rather force a TD attempt. I knew when they went for it and turned over the ball on downs that it would come back to haunt them in the end. The game could have ended with a 16-14 score instead of 10-14. The Viking D did a great job in both games, but the O sucked.
Minnie has lost two games by a combined 9 points, scoring only 19 points in two games. Last season, they were averaging nearly 30 points per game!

If Favre doesn’t trust BB, why does management keep him? The only advantage that BB had over J. Walker is the fact that he already knew the playbook, while Walker isn’t the sharpest receiver in the huddle when it comes to learning new plays (it took him an entire season to learn GB’s playbook when he was a rookie). However, Walker has better hands and vertical reach than BB, which makes him a more reliable option. Right now, BB is nothing more than a decoy for defenses. If management doubled down their bets for this season, they would find the money for V. Jackson or R. Moss to fill the void created by Rice. Also, if management doesn’t want a trade to replace Taylor, they should start using Toby Gerhart to help AP. Brett needs more conditioning!

Hey FM Fan and all you other disloyal ungrateful packer fans – yeah go watch the highlight films like the ones Steve Sabol made – the ones that call Brett Favre the legend – listen to the EXPERTS like Chris Berman, Primetime Deion Sanders, Micheal Irvin, Jamie Dukes, etc etc there are so many more – that ALL say it wasn’t Brett’s fault and the intercepts were not all his fault either. The Percy drop was a bad drop on Percy’s end but if his hip was injured, that may have been a big factor for Percy, but it was an even worse call by the refs – that ball (and I listen to the experts who KNOW what they are talking about) should have gone back to the Vikings. Brett Favre is so smart and has such a love for the game – and so many people love and respect him and his playing – I totally enjoy watching a game with him playing – and he came back to help the Vikings because he really loves the team – and now he is getting smack down? Well from those few packer fans that are jealous – yeah we get your boohoo about how Favre and the Vikings came so close to the superbowl last year – and could still do it this year! And geeze, let’s jump on the bandwagon to celebrate when things go great but when things are not going so great, we throw Favre to the retirement home? No – he still has it and he can help this team come back again – just like he has done in the past! And he is the first one to be humble and take the blame for things not going good – and sticking up for the players when they are taking heat from others – there are so many great things about Brett Favre – the best of which he came back to play with the Vikings for one more year. Now if he gets the weapons to throw to… hint about Joe Webb – great idea because he will likely be a beast of a receiver like Sydney Rice – so if you have Joe Webb, AP, Sydney and all of the others – yeah, Brett Favre could really enjoy those weapons! Go Vikings!
