Vikings, Dolphins Issue Thursday Injury Reports

Posted by Mike Wobschall on September 16, 2010 – 2:03 pm

The Vikings and Dolphins have released their Thursday injury reports and not much has changed for either team.

The only change is that WR Percy Harvin (hip) did not take part in practice. Vikings offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell did not offer any news when asked about Harvin’s status. Harvin’s absence from practice on Thursday is not entirely alarming but the team will certainly look for him to take part in Friday’s practice.

There were no other changes for either team. Vikings assistant head coach/defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier said both Chris Cook and Cedric Griffin are “improving” and “heading in the right direction.” Frazier also said the CBs “are not that far away from getting on the field.”

I don’t understand why the Vikes have not been more aggresive in getting a wide receiver that can fill in for Sidney Rice, like Vincent Jackson.

Vincent Jackson suspension has been reduced to 4 games if he is traded by Weds. I expect the Vikings will make a move by then. I dont expect Sidney will be ready until the playoffs. Now with Percy having this hip problem, I think bringing Brett back will be a total waste if we dont get him some receiver help.

PLEASE GET JACKSON…PPPLLLLEEEEAAASSSEEEE! THEN WHEN SIDNEY GETS RIGHT….IT WILL BE LIKE X-MAS FOR BRETT! THERE WILL NOT BE A D IN THE LEAGUE THAT CAN STOP US!

Sidney Rice is supposed to miss eight weeks, which would see him returning in late October. While that might be too optimistic (or maybe not), Vincent Jackson would not be looked at as someone to replace Rice. It would be in addition to. And what’s wrong with having two “elite” receivers to go with B2, Harvin and Camarillo?

Your pleads unfortunately for a Great #1 receiver will fall on the Deaf ears of Management and coaching Staff. It will be a great waste of the Greatest QB of all time’s Talent!!!!! All Tall receivers 6’3″ or taller were cut during the preseason (except practice squad Brown). Did you not notice that? They don’t want a legit Deep threat.

Look, Vincent Jackson is suspended for at least 5 weeks from a Viking’s perspective at this stage, so it’s not like he would be playing immediately or “replacing” Rice, even if a trade went through during the next five minutes. The time to kick the tires and evaluate those problems which have made Jackson potentially available is the present, not later, after he’s been signed and we find that we agree with the Chargers that he’s not worth the money.

it’s only the second game no reason to go into panic mode.

Vikes don’t have many difficult matchups until the end of Jackson’s suspension if he is traded by wednesday. The Dolphins, Lions and Jets are far from the toughest games the Vikings will have this season (actually, Jets could be quite tough, but Jackson would be covered by Revis if he were to play that game, so that doesn’t really matter).
So being able to get Jackson on the team at a lesser price than expected as the Chargers may want to make sure to trade him before wednesday could be a great move. The Vikings do need a star WR for the hardest part of the season if they want a good shot at the playoffs, and Jackson + Rice on the roster at the end of the year could make the team go from “high potential with passing attack issues” to “Superbowl favorite”.

Another thing to consider is Jackson’s off the field issues. Do the Vikings really want a distraction—if, in fact he is likely to be one? I don’t know where the guy is at mentally right now, but the current group of receivers—at least you can expect them to stay out of trouble.

So what if Jackson has off-field issues? Didn’t Jared Allen have a personality problem in Kansas? Isn’t that why they were so eager to get rid of the best DE in the NFL? Trust our coaches to smack this kid upside the head when he needs it. If he comes to MN, you’ll see a new Vincent Jackson.

  14. By vikings012 on Sep 16, 2010 | Reply

jackson is only suspended for 4 games not 5 and rice will be back in 6 games not 8 anyways jackson may not be able to come on right away but he would still be a great pick up for us imagine rice, jackson, and harvin as our three starters and then we have berrian, and camillaro as r 4 and 5 guys and not to forget about our big play TE shaincoe. teams D’s wont know what to do and wont be able to match up to our WR’s if we go 4 or five wide at times so i think he would be a great guy to get and would help us on our way to our super bowl victory GO VIKINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If the packers gm would have treated Brett with the respect he earned he would have played out his career in gb and just to clear the air the VIKINGS played the WORLD CHAMPIONS last week not a second rate team with a convicted animal abuser that almost beat the pack at the helm!!!!!!!

  17. By DAVID on Sep 16, 2010 | Reply

hey vikingso12 i agree with you not to mention PETERSON with those wide outs good luck stopping that fire power come on vikings pick up V JACK hes there for the taking. Its a no brainner if you really want this superbowl. The stars are linning up for us, but the owner has to make the move, us fans can only say so much,

  18. By dolphin2 on Sep 16, 2010 | Reply

Paul- Get the story straight. The Packers gave Favre every chance to come back, but the primadonna had to have it his way. I think the Packers are happy with Rodgers and are probably laughing at your team as Brett threw away your chance at a Super Bowl.
We are coming into your house on Sunday and we will see what happens…if you beat us, then we can claim animal abuse and then your no better than Michael Vick. If you do lose on Sunday, it may make no difference who comes back or who you trade for, your season may be over. Go Fins.

hey dolphin2 how far did the packers go last year and who won the division and what did your team do last year oh they werenot even in the playoffs child please go home fin

Dolphin2- the pack didn’t want him… that’s why they traded him. End of story. I will take Favre over Henne any day! The fins have no shot at winning this game.

I am ready for a block buster deal that would send Vincent Jackson and OT Marcus McNeill to Minnesota for Berrian, Mckinnie and what ever else it takes to make it happen.

  25. By DAVID on Sep 16, 2010 | Reply

that sounds good to me lets see what happens we catch the fish in the dome net then we fry them

  26. By jim G on Sep 16, 2010 | Reply

call me crazy but does anyone think that a 3-way trade with the pats and chargers could land jackson in new england and moss in minnesota ??? if harvin can not go sunday or the vikings are hiding a more serious problem with harvins hip,a move like this would make sense seeing that jackson would not be a starter till week 5

  27. By Carl K on Sep 16, 2010 | Reply

I think something big is in the works and it could involve more than 2 teams? However, I don’t think anything will happen until Monday.

  28. By Carl K on Sep 16, 2010 | Reply

Other player will probably be involved… Moss to the Chargers could be a possiblity if V Jackson comes here. That means players like Mankins, McNeill, Mckinnie, Berrian, Edwards and others could get tied in to all this as compensation some how. Should be fun to see what happens.

  29. By DAVID on Sep 16, 2010 | Reply

AT THIS POINT I JUST HOPE THE VIKINGS DONT FALL ASLEEP ON CHANCE TO BUILD THIS OFFENCE WITH SOME FIRE POWER, JUST HOPE THERE UP TO SOMETHING GOOD WE WILL SEE, I AGREE WONT KNOW UNTILL MONDAY. HAVE TO FOCUS ON THE GAME AT HAND

We don’t need to get to crazy over this Jackson.Remember the last time the Vikings mortgage the future to win a super bowl,we got Walker and Dallas got all those players and our picks! By the way Dallas won 3 super bowls thanks to us!

  38. By Vikes fan in San Diego on Sep 16, 2010 | Reply

Jackson is good and would help but there are 30-50 million reasons why the Vikings won’t sign Jackson. He wants A LOT of (guaranteed) money and will likely be a pain in the ass again next year when the Vikes take a huge step backward talent wise… which they will, whether they win it all or not. And worse, what will they have to give up? And worst of all, it seems like these guys that skip camp and practice always get hurt first game back. I guess we’ll see here real quick just how “All in” the Wilfs really are this year.

  39. By OLDSCHOOL on Sep 17, 2010 | Reply

Let’s all stop talking about next year…..there isn’t going to be a next year! LOCKOUT! This team needs to go ALL in right now…….IT IS NOW OR NEVER! THIS TEAM WINS IT THIS YEAR! THIS TEAM WILL NOT BE THE SAME NEXT YEAR OR THE YEAR AFTER! GO GET JACKSON AND CROSS YOUR FINGERS SIDNEY IS READY ON TIME AND THAT WE HAVEN’T LOST ENOUGH GAMES BY THEN THAT WE ARE NOT SITTING AROUND IN DEC. HOPING SOMEBODY LOSES AND SOMEBODY WINS SO WE CAN MAKE THE PLAYOFFS! I HAVE A FEELING THAT WE NEED TO WIN THESE NEXT TWO GAMES , PICK UP A WIDE-OUT, COME OUT OF THE BYE WEEK READY AND HOPE SIDNEY IS READY FOR GREENBAY!

  40. By Jones on Sep 17, 2010 | Reply

I hope they sign vj pair him up with rice when he gets healthy will be an explosive combo move. Harvin plays the slot move berrian to 4th wideout, I doubt the vikings will want to give up a bunch of for vj, hopefully they do though.

  41. By SharperHorns on Sep 17, 2010 | Reply

I’m not sure if Jackson’s the real fix for the WR problems right now… We wouldn’t have him until almost the time Sidney’s back, and do you think he’ll stay here when Brett’s gone next year? His contracts pretty big, and we have other guys who do deserve a bigger contract. Anyway, who said Camarillo can’t be a good future threat? Brett’s gonna make him great just like he made Sidney great.

Not that I think we don’t need another wide receiver, but a bigger problem is…

Is T-jack really gonna be out starter next year? If he is, I’m already worried…

  42. By Corey on Sep 18, 2010 | Reply

Get VJ for cheap.. if he isnt traded and they lose him after the season they get a third rounder in 2012 so they will want something a little better… we cant trade the farm like we did to dallas for walker but maybe for a 2nd rounder or something… I dont think randy is coming home even though that would be sweet… and as for the Dolphins… idk if your aware but our front four is filthy… goodluck running on that not to mention our underrated linebackers and possibly having cook and griffin back… we lost one game to a good team were fine no reason to panic yet… we beat the fins and lions and go 2-1 into the bye week… Super Bowl or bust VIKES

Well when ever sidney comes back he will be needed. Also Jackson i don’t think would be good pick. just wait till sidney comes back. OOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMGGGGGGGGGGG what was up with brett on sunday that was one of his worst games ever!!!!! He needs to drasticly step up his game. Percy tough luck with that pass. Vikings i love as much as the nex minnesotan but we really get going if were going to make to the super bowl.
