Vikings Adjust Practice Squad

Posted by Mike Wobschall on September 6, 2010 – 10:45 am

Building and maintaining an NFL roster is a never-ending process and that process continued today for the Vikings as they tweaked their practice squad a bit.

The Vikings have added G Seth Olsen and T Thomas Welch to the  squad while G Thomas Austin was released.

Olsen stands at 6-4, 305 pounds and is a product of the University of Iowa. He was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the 4th round of the 2009 NFL Draft but was among the team’s roster cuts last weekend. Welch registers at 6-7, 310 pounds and comes to the Vikings from the New England Patriots. He played college football at Vanderbilt and was selected by New England in the 7th round of the 2010 NFL Draft.

Super excited to see Seth Olsen, he was a beast at the U of Iowa, hopefully he can become productive for the men in purple too!

I was really hoping that we’d go after Justin Hartwig. In fact, being a Mankato Minneota native I was hoping that he’d come after us. But I guess Brad is content with Sully as his starter, so hopefully the guy will be healed up and ready to go soon.

I’ve noticed since Chili took over as head coach that he values youth over age at nearly every position with the exception of QB. There is no substitution for experience at QB, so Brett isn’t included. Lito isn’t a spring chicken either, but I expect his experience will show up during the season and so will Winfield. Big Pat is another cagey guy in the middle that has seen it all. Nobody is going to fool these seasoned vets that we do have. The team is a younger mix intentionally. The older vets provide the much needed leadership. We have the chemistry and the skill set to win it all. Have fun guys and take it one game at a time. Enjoy the ride.

Bernard Berrian should really be taking over this year. I am excited to watch this guy play! I am also excited to watch him play Minute to Win it on NBC at 8pm Tuesday night! He is doing it for a good cause which always makes me feel good. I love seeing NFL players using their celebrity status for good.

where in the world is Marquis Hamilton? Ian johnson is a waste of time if you ask the other hundred teams that passed on this chump. Tony G. is also another waste of time.

Stevo, I think it’s a little early to consider Gerhart a “waste of time”. Don’t be a hater…
