Pending Physicals, Vikings Trade Rosenfels, Reynaud

Posted by Mike Wobschall on September 3, 2010 – 7:29 pm

The Vikings on Friday traded QB Sage Rosenfels and RB Darius Reynaud to the NY Giants in exchange for an undisclosed draft choice in the 2011 NFL Draft and a conditional draft choice in the 2012 NFL Draft.

The trade is contingent upon both Rosenfels and Reynaud passing physical examinations with the Giants.

By my (unofficial) count, the trade reduces Minnesota’s roster to 73 players; NFL teams must trim their rosters to the limit of 53 players by 5:00 p.m. CT on Saturday.

If Favre get injured (he will if our O-line doesn’t improve) the season looks very bleak with T Jack at QB. Honestly, you’d be better off having Webb as #2 — he can move the ball down-field and put points on the board. I hope that’s in your game plans — put-in Webb and do a QB carry every 3rd or 4th play!

Dumbest move yet for the Vikings. Sage has what it takes to be the starter next year while TJ sucks and should have been cut if not traded. Not to mention Renaud was a competent return man when Harvin’s unavailable. This has Childress stupidity written all over it.

  4. By bucfan99 on Sep 3, 2010 | Reply

Let us pray that Brett stays healthy. TJ should have been the one traded, but it’s obvious no other team would give up any draft picks for him!

  5. By Jeff Bullerman on Sep 3, 2010 | Reply

How stupid! How can the whole NFL and all the vikings fans see that T Jack sucks and yet Chilly stands by him. Well one good thing about this! Next year after we get our butts kicked because T Jack is so bad, Chilly will be gone too. So after next year no T Jack or Chilly! SKOL VIKES

Reynaud was the biggest shocker….guess Asher will be returning punts, Percy kickoffs. My guess is trades are not done. we will pick up another CB because you cannot expose Asher without adequate backup.

T-Jack is terrible. Childress and the gang have lost their mind or maybe they didnt see the game last night. Swallow your pride and admit Jackson will never be decent QB.

We all expected this. not all of us like it but think about it.
T-Jack is Chili’s guy, Webb is Chili’s guy, Sage was brought in before we had Favre and will make 3 million to be our 3rd QB again??

Because remember people T-Jack is the backup (again not all of us like it)

If Favre stays healthy this year nobody will care about this trade. at least we will get something for him.

Sage was expected, not to say its right but expected. Reynaud is a shocker, I really liked what he had. He is a very explosive player. I can’t imagine what they got for these guys. WTF???

  14. By Joe G on Sep 3, 2010 | Reply

Smart move. If Favre gets hurt this year Sage wasn’t taking this team anywhere. Doesn’t anyone remember that Sage hasn’t succeeded in the past and has a much worse winning % as a starter than T-Jack? Don’t get me wrong, if Favre gets hurt we’re in trouble. But T-Jack/Sage isn’t much better than T-Jack/Webb or Sage/T-Jack or Trent Green or Jeff George for that matter!

Honestly lets be real, Sage and T-Jack are both not good enough to be starters at this point. After all the work they put in with T-Jack there is no chance they just let him go, and Webb has way too much potential to let him get to another team. Sage is the odd man out, and probably brough back more of a return then Tarvaris would have. The thing that makes me mad in this deal is WHY on earth they traded Reynaud, especially with Percy’s migraines? That is the real annoying thing.

  18. By Jeff B on Sep 3, 2010 | Reply

Will someone on the vikings practice squad just take T-Jack out at the knees so we can be done with the waste of a roster spot!

  19. By joe on Sep 3, 2010 | Reply

i am really tired of ppl sayin how good rosenfels is. hes been in the league how long and he hasnt earned a starting spot yet that should tell you something. he is nothing more than a career backup. im not saying im happy with tjack starting either i think we will be in trouble either way. All im saying is tjack im pretty sure has a better starting record than rosenfels. also in the preseason rosenfels played worse defenses and got much more playing time just saying. i am disappointed reynaud had to go tho.

  20. By Nick on Sep 3, 2010 | Reply

The logic of the coaching and management staff of the Minnesota Vikings never ceases to amaze me anymore.

Lets go ahead and pass up some GREAT draft choices at QB, Pass on McNabb, and cut our best option behind Favre who was a shining star during preseason.

    Go Tarvaris Jackson!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  21. By Brian on Sep 3, 2010 | Reply

Reynaud is by far the worse of these trades, even though Rosenfels is a much more competent qb than Jackson. In my eyes, Reynaud could’ve easily been a good #2 to Peterson, or at least a good punt returner like last year…

  22. By Nick on Sep 3, 2010 | Reply

This goes without mentioning…Brett Favre has managed to get at least 2-3 million more $$$ on the year because he was nice enough to skip training camp…again.

  23. By Renee on Sep 3, 2010 | Reply

Very disappointed in losing Sage & Darius. Since Favre is the one good thing this organization can manage at a time–it’s only fitting that they trade Sage and Darius. Who’s gonna return the ball on special teams if Percy gets a migraine attack?? I swear, you guys don’t THINK!!!

  24. By 'Wayne on Sep 3, 2010 | Reply

we might as well get ready for failure if Favre gets hurt….T-jack over sage is like Albert Young over Adrian peterson…is it me or does it seem like Chilly has some kind of love affair wit T-Jack…He will never be a NFL QB Yet somehow he is number 2….I personally am angry that sage is a giant and not T-Jack…especially after this preseasons number wat the heck is up with the coaching staff right now…T-Jack is a cancer since Brett came back…he has been tanking the games not sage

  25. By David on Sep 3, 2010 | Reply

I truly hope that they are thinking outside the box and getting some type of decent draft choices for Darrius, for possible trading value for somethig else.. Because I for the life of me cannot figure out what the heck the organization is thinking gettig rid of reynaud!!!??!!

  26. By Pete on Sep 3, 2010 | Reply

If Farve gets hurt, we go back to T Jack. Nice guy. Seems like he wants to improve. I like how hard he works. And I hope I am really wrong about it. But we already went down that road. He does not read the game in real time. And what about next year? You going to develop Webb by then. No of course not. It is Super Bowl or Bust this year.

  29. By Elijah on Sep 3, 2010 | Reply

I completely agree that Reynaud and Rosenfels are both DECENT players… so this move seems silly. But… there is somethin’ y’all are fogetting…

After Favre’s year, regardless of how incredible it is or isn’t… the Vikings will have to rebuild. At the very least, they will need to start back over on QB. No QB’s [including Sage, which they no longer have] they currently have can lead this team.

They probably got decent Draft Picks for these guys. So when you think about it, it was actually a smart move… in my honest opinion.

Fire Childress, are you kidding? It’s not his fault the players turned the ball over so much in NFC Championship last year, and if the players didn’t do that Chilly likely would have been the first coach to bring this team a Superbowl ring. He’s improved this team by 2 games every year he’s been here yet he decides to keep 1 back up QB over another back up QB and people are calling for his head. I don’t understand…

  33. By Irish Viking Queen on Sep 3, 2010 | Reply

I believe they keep TJ due to Childress is too stuborn to admitt he made a mistake in stating that TJ has allot of the same qualities as McNabb.
I believe Rosenfels would of out perform TJ if he got more of a chance to play. But they kept shoving TJ down our throats. Why do you think Jared and the rest went down to get Farve because they have no faith in TJ. To all who mention what a mistake it was to trade Reynaud I whole heartily agree. I love Percy and I hope he get control of the migraines but I do worry about him and his ability to play

  34. By wisconsinvikesfan on Sep 3, 2010 | Reply

I think there alot of pesimists blogging here I’m sure T-jack will be fine he just didn’t have the opportunitys Sage had. Remember Sage was going up against 2nd and 3rd string defenses.

  35. By RO. on Sep 3, 2010 | Reply

Elijah, they won’t get a pick higher than the 5th round, which isn’t “decent” in my book.

And Steve, how on earth do you figure that jettisoning the salaries of Sage Rosenfels and Darius Reynaud will give the Vikings the money to sign Houshwhatever? Do you realize that TJ signed a 5 year, $40 million contract one year ago? He might be willing to take a pay cut, but not by that much.

  36. By Inside Source Rosco on Sep 3, 2010 | Reply

You know what going on?…. Vikings are trading bigtime for draft picks. New England head coach Bill B. Loves future draft picks. quess what that means… Randy Moss. How great would this be? Randy still has speed, just needs a good QB. Farve and Moss. Didn’t Farve leave Pack because he didn’t get Moss? Maybe no the whole reason but partly. Without Rice Vikes need a guy whom will go up and get the ball………….

  37. By RO. on Sep 3, 2010 | Reply

Canadian Vikes fan (so am I), no. I’m not kidding. Childress should’ve been fired long ago. With any other coach in the league, the Vikings would’ve won the Super Bowl last year. They got as far as they did DESPITE Childress, not because of him. Remember his ridiculous clock management on the final drive?? It was only one of his many shortcomings.

  38. By steve on Sep 3, 2010 | Reply

Can we give the giants back their draft pick and we can give them a couple of ours if they will take Childress too? How did Jackson ever get in in the first place? maybe Brad had an affair with TJ’s mom and now she’s blackmailing him…lol

Chilly I was a fan of you until now. This has to be the dumbest decision you have ever made. TJack is nothing and never will amount to anything in the NFL. He has no heart and no skills. He doesn’t care about the team or about the fans. We would have been better off without Tjack but now this will come back to haunt us. All Minnesota Fans want is a superbowl and you have a ton of talent. Almost every coach in the NFL would love to have the talent we have and you are blowing our chances of winning a superbowl. What a horrible mistake.

  45. By BillyBob on Sep 3, 2010 | Reply

    Whatever!

T-Jack doesn’t have the mentality to be a quality NFL quarterback.

Childress doesn’t have the mentality to be a quality NFL Head Coach.

This is just a case of covering up Childress’s bad decision. That was trading up to draft Jackson a couple years ago.

What does it matter? The Vikings will be gone after the lockout anyway.

  46. By Cullen on Sep 3, 2010 | Reply

Hats off to the front office for scoring a couple of draft picks. We have to get the roster down to 53, and some impressive talent will be lost one way or another. Might as well get something for them! We had to cut a QB, and TJack performed better than Rosenfels, who really was up and down…He can throw mind-numbing interceptions. We have a lot of options as returners, including Asher Allen, who showed he can handle punts just fine. I’d still like to see us reel in more for a defensive lineman or two.

  49. By Canadian Vikes fan on Sep 3, 2010 | Reply

RO, c’mon man you’re telling me with a different coach they wouldn’t have kept dropping the ball and throwing interceptions in the NFC Championship? At the end of the day Chilly had us in a position to be in the Superbowl but the players kept coughing up the ball and Brett threw a stupid pass. The idea that THIS of all decisions would be one that would hurt our chances at winning it this year is laughable considering neither Sage nor TJ played a meaningful down last year. Some people are acting like we just traded Peyton Manning.

Lets keepit real, I have heard real good things about webb soI had a feeling he would stay.As far as sag no he’snot a better choice than t-jack. T-jack is mobile and does have a good arm and this guy webb has shown is can step in.sage is agod qb but he is not a better choice than t-jack and if you get a coach that opens up the play calling and open the field then t-jack will show his worth better. I’m ok with the 3 we have now and for those that say favre has no targets we know he can get wr’s the ball and the recievers we have now are pretty good till rice gets back. So after all is said and done, the Sage experiment ending up netting us the loss of Darius Reynold. We traded away a 5th to get Sage from Houston, and got a 5th and lost Reynold. Did the staff forget that Reynold was leading or close to leading the NFL in punt return average before he got hurt last year? This deal makes no sense. Hopefully Eli Manning gets hurt and misses a lot of time or else that 2012 conditional pick will be a 7th rounder or even worse a compensatory 7th rounder.

However I have faith still that Spielman knows what he is doing so they must have confidence in someone to return punts and back up Harvin at KR. Maybe Jaymar will make the team now who knows

Everyone knew this was coming and yet people still get upset. The fact is, if Favre goes down the season is more than likely tanked no matter who is at the helm. Sage is 32. He has 2 or 3 more years TOPS. hes not going to become a 5 year starter somewhere. With the way the Vikes are drafting i think this is a good move to try and reload when our studs reach the end of their road in the next few years. T Jack could be good but everyone has made up their mind from 3 years ago. keep in mind he hasnt played now for 2 years in REAL game situations. Give a guy a chance before you dump all over him.

As for Reynaud. Could the Vikes possibly know a little more about Harvin and his migraines so they figure they don’t need Reynaud? Last week they were very optimistic and maybe after those few big hits he took last Sat. didnt have any repercussions.

How bout a little optimism instead of flushing the season over Sage Rosenfels and Darius Reynaud. DANG.

  74. By Mike on Sep 3, 2010 | Reply

We all knew this was precisely why Sage played so much in the pre season. They decided before training camp what the depth chart would be at QB and wanted their third stringer’s contract gone. That is completely understandable. You can’t pay your QB position close to one third of the salary cap. But WHY ON EARTH did we trade for draft picks when there is likely to be a lockout next year. At this point, I guess that we are better off getting something than having to cut Rosenfels. Draft picks are how you build your team, but these are not likely to be high draft picks. Usually conditional means that the picks will be higher if the player traded plays in or starts in a certain number of games and lower if the player does not play as much. I don’t see Sage starting ahead of Manning. I guess we can hope that Darius finds a spot in the rotation at returner or third down back to drive the value higher of one of those picks. For those of you who are defending this trade by stating that Jackson has a better starting record than Rosenfels probably do not remember that many of those games were wins based on very strong defense and a good running game. I don’t remember any times where “jump pass” Jackson led this team to any wins. We kept the better athlete. Not the better QB. Rick Speilman has been doing a very solid job to this point. I am inclined to believe that this was the best trade he could find.

If Brett Favre goes down the Vikes would have a much better chance with Webb in at QB than T-Jack!!! UGH!!!!! And all the Vikes got was a 5th round pick and a conditional pick in the 2012 draft which will probably be a 6th or 7th round pick!!!

If you keep people that are unwanted by the fans, attendance is going to start dropping at the games. I’m not going to a game that TJ is playing in. I make it to a couple of games a year, and am not making the 12 hour trip this year. It’s time to get TJ a bus ticket.

If Favre gets injured all you have is T-Jack and any other team in the NFL would have cut T-Jack and kept a guy like Sage and the question is why trade for draft picks why not trade to get another cornerback or another wide receiver like Vincent Jackson of the Chargers? T-Jack probably has no trade value and we know Joe Webb could be the future qb not T-Jack.

Lets just wait this one out before we go and shoot off our mouths. Sage was playing against second and third teamers people. We were fortunate to get a draft choice for him. His arm strength is medial at best, hes thrown as many interceptions as touchdowns which is why he doesn’t take many sacks. The draft choices could be used in trade for an upgrade at cb or wr such as TJ or VJ or too improve draft positioning. Or we might just keep the draft choice let Spielman work his magic. I wouldnt be surprised if we made a couple more moves before announcing the final 53 man roster tomorrow. We still have a ton of talent at DL, we go three deep at DE and DT and we can keep them all. So lets just wait this out. We have a ton of talent and when we get Riced, Griffin and Cook back, watch out!

We traded away 2 back-ups, and we don’t even know if these guys would have made the team. The front office has done an amazing job in the last few years building a winning team that has continued to improve, so I will trust them on this one. I don’t understand the love for Sage. Almost all of his stats this preseason have come against the Rams 2nd and 3rd string guys. He never played for the Vikings in the regular season, and has never been able to be a starter for any team, this is not a big loss. If Favre gets injured I don’t think it will matter who backs him up. I would say Reynaud is a bigger loss, but the Vikings have 3 RBs with AP, Toby, and Young. Reynaud probably couldn’t have fit into the 53 man roster, and the Vikings have guys who can return kicks. We still don’t know what round those picks are in, but remember the Vikings have recently found talent late in the draft.

I can not believe this trade! If our soon-to-be 41 year old QB goes down injured, the season will be over at that moment! I wouldn’t get that same sense with Rosenfels taking the snaps! TJ will never be sucessful in this league until the receivers start running their routes backwards because he’s consistantly throwing behind them…that is if he’s not over throwing or throwing at their feet! I’m dumbfounded at this one. I was so hoping this would be the pre-season in which Childress wakes up, casts his love affair with TJ to the side and moves on. God save Favre!!!

I think people tend to forget that if it weren’t for T-Jack, the Vikings would not have made the playoffs two seasons ago. He bailed us out when Frerotte got injured (and generally just started sucking) in the second half of the season. In all honesty, T-Jack never should have been benched that year. One of the main issues with him is he hasn’t been given a proper chance. Benching him after just two games is not going to help him build confidence. I’m not saying he is outstanding or even our QB of the future (that WILL be Webb), but I don’t think he deserves all the criticism that is placed upon him. Also, having Favre as his mentor for a couple of seasons should help him out. The past two years he has had to compete with Rosenfels for his position and has won both years, so he can’t be horrible. I’m not surprised they let Rosenfels go. T-Jack earned the backup spot and Webb has far too much potential to release, so it was an obvious choice IMO.

With that said, I cannot for the life of me understand why Reynaud was is being cut. He was a valuable return guy last season, and I could definitely see him working his way up. I understand there are a lot of talented guys competing for a limited number of roster spots (and I in no way envy the people who have to make the cuts), but I think letting Reynaud go is a mistake!

I love my Vikings, so I just hope the coaches know what they are doing and we have the team that will win the Superbowl this year! GO VIKINGS!!!

  144. By cc on Sep 3, 2010 | Reply

Chili’s inability to evaluate QB talent is legendary. Its great that Favre became available to save Chili’s behind last year. But this season he proves himself again by keeping TJack over the guy who obviously would be a more sound choice at backup QB.

I guess the Vikings won too many games last season when Rosenfels and Favre were reviewing plays on the sidelines without Chili.

I am as shocked as everyone else here, as far as their decisions but, I agree with @Dave the Conquerer. We need to take a collective deep breath and see how this plays out over the first 4 – 8 games.

How do any of us really know how much of Childress’ decision was in this trade? I still think Coach Childress is a cagey decision maker. I think it was more a matter of what others here already stated – this was much more a business decision. Management wanted to reduce the salary level.

Still…..WOW! I am sorry to see Sage and Reynaud go. I wish them the best and enjoyed watching their playing time with the Vikings.

I don’t believe we have an NFL caliber QB on the roster apart from Favre. Webb is very impressive but, let’s face it, the most impressive things he’s done have been running the ball and in this league, you cannot have your QB doing that often! But he has more natural ability and poise as a rookie than TJ has, or is likely to ever develop!

Ok, I understand moving Reynaud; we can’t carry 4 RB’s and we have other options at PR. Moving Rosenfels is ridiculous. Personally, I think Chilly took a hatin’ to Sage after it was suspected that Sage talked to the media about Favre thinking Chilly was clueless about offense. I’m not a Chilly hater but this move is horrible. T-Jack’s accuracy is horrendous and its going to get WR’s killed. He can’t even throw an 8-yard out pattern!

  167. By Shay on Sep 3, 2010 | Reply

Childress will not get rid of Jackson because that would be admitting his mistake in drafting him. Jackson has never lost a QB battle under Childress and when Jackson obviously lost Childress protects his spot. Jackson will never have to worry as along as Childress is head coach. If something happens to Favre this season and he is out say 3-4 weeks… this team is done for because of Childress’s arrogance.

Don’t know what Childress sees in Jackson, but he is the only person in Minnesota that sees anything but a third string, practice quarterback. He had better go to bed praying every night that nothing happens to Favre. I think that he traded our Super Bowl away today. At least Sage could throw a pass and read a defense. Hopefully after this year, Childress will be gone and they will give a coaching job to Favre. Otherwise, the Vikes may as well forget about a new startium!!!!!

Fire the coach for making bad decisions on and off the playing field and cut T-Jack for just being a bad quaterback who can’t handle the pressure. He panics too many times on the field to help The Vikings win if Farve gets hurt. Sage should have backed up Farve with Webb being the 3rd quaterback. Webb just got into the NFL and he is already looking better at quaterback than Jackson!

TERRIBLE decision to trade Reynaud. Absolutely TERRIBLE.

Was someone else wearing his jersey last year on the returns because obviously management was seeing something I wasn’t, or I was seeing something they weren’t. I’ve actually agreed with most moves, but this was one that was very stupid. Reynaud was an exciting return guy and had some big runs, and nearly broke several others when healthy last year. Had a good preseason as well.

From what I’ve seen, Reynaud was far better than Asher – but hey, no worries, not like punt returners mean much in the outcome of games. DUMB move Vikings.

I at least hope we got a good draft pick for those 2. Hopefully after this season the Vikings just let TJack walk. Draft a franchise QB unless they feel Webb is that guy but at least get a couple CBs, or OL or DL. We will see. Keep your heads up fans. The season is just beginning. Favre is tough. SKOL VIKES!!!

Okay another thing you people don’t realize is that while Childress probably had a say in this, this isn’t solely his decision. You think Childress just sits in a room making every decision based on what he thinks without consulting anyone? If the Vikings brass didn’t collectively agree on this then obviously it wouldn’t have been done, and I think a bunch of paid football brass know a little bit more about the situation then angry fans on a blog. People just blame Childress for every little thing that doesn’t go right for this team. I forgot that Childress was the one who threw across his body when we were about to book our trip to the Superbowl last year.

Kissing our Superbowl ring goodbye? Sage never took one snap in a regular season game for the Vikings, but you’re right, without him holding that clipboard we’ll never get that ring… Wake up experts, if all goes well this season we wouldn’t have to hear the name Tarvaris or Sage anyways so RELAX.

As I sit here in northern Minnesota with my mouth wide open in disbelief, I can’t help but wonder what a fatal career risk this is for Childress. It’s obvious to 98% of the fan base that Jackson would make a better security guard than an NFL quarterback. If Jackson gets a chance and fails, Childress will lose his job and be banished from Minnesota. The only way this scenario takes place is if Favre goes down. If Favre does, there’s a 90% probability that Jackson does not meet expectations. I feel for Sage. Without the one or two horrible interceptions in his career, he’s an NFL starter, hands down. Understands offenses, defenses and wants to win. As for Jackson, it’s like paying $1,000 to get your shoes shined. It just doesn’t make ANY sense. So Childress, hope your 40 year old QB can make it the entire season without missing a play. If he does, then you will be moving to Clevland to be the Offensive Line assistant coach…….

Great move! It shows confidence in our top two QB’s while building for the future with Joe Webb, who had a passer rating in the 90 percential last game to sages 37 percential. We all know Tarvaris has great physical strenth but needs development. With Brett as his mentor, who better to continue this with for the second straight year! Please Vikings fans, lets not feed into the fear mentality of “what if” but embrace this move for the future of our team. If Webb would have been traded then you’d probably be upset about that too…..Go Vikes!!!!

We can ALL agree that T-Jack SUCKS beyond all comprehension and should have been gone LONG AGO (never picked period) However I think everyone is forgetting one thing: Is this not the LAST YEAR (THANK GOD) of his rookie contract?!?!?! Sage HAD to be the one traded as NO ONE WOULD TRADE FOR T.J. AND he is also in the final year of a 2 year 9 mill. contract, so he wasn’t going to be here next year either (Sage, that is) also THANK GOD. Just hope he gets alot of playing time in N.Y. As far as Darius C’MON, Iliked him also but let’s be real, Asher Allen, MAYBE Albert Young, someone else can do just fin, maybe better!!!! What I REALLY LOVE TO SEE is all the HATRED of CHILDRESS, who has NO BUSINESS being a head coach PERIOD !!!! But again what you all are forgetting is that in one of the most idiotic moves in the history of the Vikings, he was given an EXTENSION of 5 years (I believe) last year (?) after just 4 games !!!!! That is the TRUE TRAVISTY !!!!! Can’t you all see we are positioning ourselves to move up for the best possible QB next year ??? And to the clown saying “maybe Jaymar will make the team”….He’s on I.R. for the year, PAY ATTENTION !!!! And finally to “IRISH VIKING QUEEN” , Love the name!!

I couldn’t believe the depth we have on Defense this preseason. We are going to be fine! Sage isn’t so great. I think this decision was more money based than anything. Sage was to make about 4 million dollars this season and you dont want to see a probably third string quarterback making that kind of money. T-jack is a product of the vikings and he isn’t owed that much money. LAstly i think Joe has a future in this league he’s jsut a rediculus athlete.

Unfortunate…If this was a national story, the media would be all over it…As it stands, Sage is out… the regret is in…how soon we forget the season before Favre arrived. Gus Frerotte led us to 7 victories of our 10 in the regular season in 2008. Jackson had a good game against AZ and lucked out against NY’s reserves in the season finale. TJ is a backup at best. No composure. But all blame can not fall upon the players. Management(i.e. Head Coach) needs to go. The Vikings have the best talent in the league…PERIOD…How they are coached is another story. Maybe why Favre was so hesitant to return!?… This team is capable of so much this year. Best of luck guys. Vikes fans coast to coast are supporting you! Skol Vikings Skol!

He has never even played a regular season game for the Vikings. Watch the last four regular season games T-Jack played in 2008. Those are real. Philly was bad, but watch Tony Romo the week before and he was worse. Sorry to see Reynaud go and lets roll in 2010.

I’m sick of seeing all the TJack haters on this site. Let’s face it, aquiring Sage was the dumbest move we’ve made in a while, getting rid of him is a great idea. He was way over paid and quite worthless as a QB. TJack has way more upside, albeit under performs at times. Losing Reynaud stings a little bit but he really wasn’t a great WR, average at RB, and a decent returner. Overall, he’s rather easily replaceable and I’m excited to see the talent we keep in his place and look forard to rooting for whomever that may be. Skol Vikings, now is the time to get behind the team and bleed purple. Lets focus being the best fans in the nfl and support our team b/c all the b*tching and whining ain’t going to help one bit.

  214. By PurplePeopleEater on Sep 4, 2010 | Reply

I can’t believe how many of you think that we have so much better a chance of winning games with Sage over TJack. Fact is that they are pretty equal in production overall. Both of them were throwing the bälls behind receivers, or to the side that the defender was covering. Yes, Sage put up some great numbers in one game this preseason, against the worst team from last year, and against their 3rd stringers.

Fact of the matter is that IF we need to rely on either player this season, the result will be the same. It makes perfect sense to trade one of them away for future potential.

It was a disappointment that Reynaud had to go, but at least we were able to trade him instead of just cut him in the next few hours. We’re going to be seeing a few more good players leave the team by the end of the day, simply because our roster has so many good players on it that there won’t be room for everyone. Let’s all HOPE that we can get some kind of trade value for a couple of other guys too. Because there is no question that we have guys who could be starters on some teams that will be off the roster before the day is over.

If Favre gets injured this season this will be a huge mistake for this season by Childress and company. Hopefully he will not get injured if O-line does good. If Favre stays healthy this will go unnoticed this season. When Favre retires this will be a huge mistake unless the Vikes get another QB. T-Jack is not a starting QB. He has had 2 years to prove that he should be the starter and he has proven overall that he is not a starting QB. He would be a decent backup QB. Use a draft pick or trade and get a good future starting QB. Wake up Childress and company before it is to late.

  216. By Brent Fields on Sep 4, 2010 | Reply

You gave up two decent players for a 2011 fifth round draft pick and a conditional? 2012 draft pick. Come on you guys, you could have done better than that. You should have gotten a first or second round draft pick for both guys. Why is Childress so in love with T-Jack? When Favre is gone then the Vikes will be in trouble at QB again if they do not get a good starting QB for the future. T-Jack is not the answer. How many seasons do you need to figure this one out?

  217. By PurplePeopleEater on Sep 4, 2010 | Reply

Brent – the level of the draft pick is UNDISCLOSED – people are only assuming it is a 5th round, for what reason I don’t understand.

QB for the future can be worried about in the future, but there will be options. Whether it is in the draft or free agency (mcnabb’s contract is only through this year among others) we will be seeing plenty of options. TJ does not automatically become the replacement next year. But forget about that, we want to worry about this year! All or bust 2010!

  218. By CoolCal on Sep 4, 2010 | Reply

I’m just hoping and praying that Favre can stay healthy all year long. Because I’d rather play with 10 men on offense than ever let Jackson step onto the field.

Jackson may as well be a Packer, that’s how much I hate Tarvaris Jackson. He may look fine in practice, but put him in a game where there’s the slightest amount of pressure and he completely falls apart. Complete waste of a roster spot.

Sage had to be traded. wouldnt he have been the highest paid 3rd string qb? Tj could be a starting qb. The good thing is he will have 2 years of watching Favre. As far as Reynaud, I am not concerned at all. Almost anyone can return punts. Vikings have a lot of talents. More tough cuts are on the way. Like Mike Mayok said, Vikes backup D line is better than most teams 1st string D line. We will be allright. I only hope that the Vikes make it to the Super Bowl and win it baby!!!!

T-Jack’s QB rating the last two years has been 113.4 (2009) and 95.4 (2008)while completing a total of 102 out of 170 attempts. Most teams would really be happy if their backup (or even their starter) had those numbers. He is a better-than-average runner as well. T-Jack has his weaknesses (e.g. a few fumbles and injuries) but let’s not panic. So far every year he has been getting better. Webb’s got potential too. GO VIKINGS.

  222. By Milo on Sep 4, 2010 | Reply

I understand the Rosenfels trade though I don’t agree with it. The puzzler is why trade Reynaud. My guess is that the only way the Giants would agree to the deal is if the Vikes threw in Reynaud. I think they will miss Reynaud on punt returns and definitely will miss Rosenfels if Favre goes down.

THE TRUTH is, Vikes receiving core is literally half of what it was last year (Rice #! receiver out, Harvin passing out in practice, Berrian (who I loved when they picked him up) injury prone, getting old and slowing up. The part that kills me is the fact he did NOT manage to trade for a half-ways decent center or a not-so-lazy left tackle so FAVRE is NOT blind-sided all year long. F-in Chili dog. If the starting O-line isn’t shored up, then this season is OVER.

Huge mistake. Can already hear the toilet flushing this entire season away, even before it begins. O-Line once again is questionable, other than Hutchinson. Poor Favre will be a sitting duck because of McKinnie’s inability to block. Hate to say it, but last year was the year to get it done. Don’t think Favre has that burning desire like last year. T-Jack will not make it past this season. There are a lot of guys on the team that would have been upset with his trade ie Shiancoe, Rice, Peterson. This was done to keep these guys happy as much as it was to keep Webb were he is. He is a better Quarterback than Sage, not by much, but he is. The whole thing is a mess, But at least these players were not just cut or put on waivers…..we managed to get some kind of value for them. This was a Rick Spielman deal as much as a Chilly deal. I am just as frustrated as the rest of you….but this is football, players do get traded and cut. Reynaud is a surprise to me unless they are looking at Ian Johnson to be the number 4 and special teamer. We will not know until the roster is released this evening. I understand why it happened, i am glad we got draft picks for these guys, but I think Reynaud would have been a great addition to the team again this year. Except he does like to put the ball on the ground…..we already have enough of that around here.

It is sad day for Minnesota fans… are we ever going to have a cooach that gets it. Childress has gamnbled on TJack from the begining and has nit gotten great returns. The stakes just got bigger Reynaud was a good special teamer but Sage was a great back up for this offense. Sage and his 10 years experience was needed at #2 which Brad wasn’t giving him because that would mean brad was wrong. Brad is too worried about his good name to face the facts TJack would be good on another offense but not one where the defense puts it all on him to win… he hasn’t been able to do that so far…his wins were because of the D and AD not HIM. Sage will be missed because Defenses are all gunning for Favre…starting with NO. TJack get ready you might be seeing a lot of action and don’t look over your shoulder because there is a raw younger better version of you waiting in the wings…Webb. Ziggy…I hope you are listening and get rid of Brad and TJack if the gamble fails and send a letter of apology to all of the fans who are going to have a horrible season if Brett goes down.

Ok I have to admit that I am not happy about Darius Reynauld as a part of this trade, however, Sage is a different story. I know everyone thinks Sage is the man but I disagree with that line of thought. He’s a career backup QB plain and simple. I doubt if he’s the answer when Brett finally retires. On the same note, Tjack is not the answer either so think about next year if Brett retires. Tjack is on a 1 yr contract and no Sage. Where does that put us??

  240. By preacher on Sep 4, 2010 | Reply

Vikes really need better protection up front. A more productive run game would take the pressure off the OB.

  241. By Wesley on Sep 4, 2010 | Reply

I know everyone feels that Tjack is a waste but if you look at it, we never really had a back up QB in Tjack, Sage or Webb (mainly because Webb is so raw right now). Our season rides with Brett under center this year just as it did last year. If he gets injured we would not have advanced last year like we did so nothing really has changed with this trade other than the loss of some potential in Darius R.

  242. By David Siegfried on Sep 4, 2010 | Reply

You people are nuts, this is a team that took you deep into the post season last year on an amazing viking ride. Yeah they didn’t get to the superbowl but real vikings fans know that the superbowl is a nordic myth we tell stories about ’round the campfire. You knew when the vikings moved raynaud to RB that was because he was not a good route runner, they added back after back because he wasn’t a rb either. He was a very specialized guy and that didn’t work for him.

And let’s face facts here, do you think, in the very unlikely occurrence that favre the iron man should ever go down, do you honestly think we have a really good shot with either sage or tavaris?

I know Chilly seems like the most questionable guy, but, the fact is he is improving every year and building a very solid roster. Go with it, have some fun, give me a break on these two trades. If you didn’t see them both coming you are not a viking fan worth talking to.

I agree with most everyone here, except for a couple of “joe’s” and
some “Canadian” guy. Favre goes down and the season is over and so is the chance for another NFC Championship. We’ve lost that chance before because of a stupid decision by a coach… (anyone remember “Take-a-knee-Denny green against Atlanta??) Sage was the better ‘keeper’ but we will find that out if Brett gets hurt and we can only hope that he doesn’t because Jackson has already peaked and can only get worse. Childress sucks at what he does. One reason we have such a good team is because of the individual team coaches, not Childress’ decisions. So,, we hope that the offensive line can keep Favre from getting hurt so we won’t have to depend on T.J. and we can win a NFC Championship again!!!

Wesley… I agree totally with what you’ve said. Next year, if Farve doesn’t come back, we get another experienced QB to run this team. Jeff Garcia had been interviewed and was waiting in the wings if Farve didn’t come back this year. The team CLEARLY is not comfortable turning over the keys to Jackson. Not the management, not the coaching staff, not his teammates. Not only is he consistantly late with his decision making, he is inaccurate with his passing. Lets face it, he’s also not a team leader, someone the guys can rally behind, and thats very important in a QB.

I know that Childress and Spielman must be hoping he’ll tun the corner after all the time and money they’ve invested in the guy, otherwise they’d be going after one of these first rounders that we keep letting slip by. But they know he’s not there yet.

I just read that Jackson will be an unrestricted free agent next year while Sage will have one more year under contract. The team would have to have given Jackson a contract extension in order to trade him, most likely, unless a team was desparate, and I mean DESPARATE, for a 1 year backup QB. Jackson is also not getting paid much this year, so that figures in. Sages trade value was better than Jacksons, and their value to the Vikings was probably about the same.

By trading Reynaud, a RETURN MAN, they free up another spot for someone else, maybe one of the RB that people have been hoping make the team, or possibly a CB. They can’t keep everyone, guys. If they can fill that return man role with someone that can contribute in another aspect of the game, the should. If Jared Allen could consistantly hit a 50 yard field goal, Ryan Longwell would be gone in a heartbeat.

I hate to say this, but Childress/Spielman did the right thing.

What a joke. Seriously – what a freaking joke. Childress needs to go!!!!!

As a 48 year season ticket holder, moving Rosenfels is up there with the dumbest personnel moves I’ve seen. The only guy who thinks Jackson has anything is the coach, and he continues to show misjudgement in a long term solution for quarterback. Maybe Webb has something but at best he is a raw Cullpepper type QB. If there is a season next year or the Vikings stick around two years from now, it will be a long cold winter. Chilly has to go. I’m sick of seening poor football leadership.

I love how over the edge you all went because the WHITE QB got traded. Listen, Sage Rosenfels is a 10 year player who NEVER elevated to a starter. When he got his chances to get in, he threw INTS and Fumbled often. Having a INT > TD ratio does not equal talent. I could do that, and throw 2 second slants. Listen, take it easy Tarvaris will be in week 2, after New Orleans retires him and well be fine. TJack got no reps becuz he was slated as #2 in Pre-season, and everytime he dropped back the O-line disintegrated because it was Backups!!! You all are ignorant – put your blind hate aside, and see what he can do when hes called on. Obviously they felt more comfortable with Tjack who has all the tools, and ability just needs to put it together over 30 yr old Sage who has done NOTHING in the league. Give the kid a chance, hes learned a lot over the years and it shows in pre-season with snap counts, his reads, and mike calls. You all dont pay attention to that, which is why you are blind haters. Poor ol’ White cant get it done QB got traded. WAAAAAAHHHhhhh!!!!

We should never have gotten Sage the lifetime backup so trading him is a good move. In 2008 the last year he played in a real game he had 6-tds and 10-ints with 4 fumbles 2 lost in 6 games. Tarvaris had 9-tds and 2-ints in 6 games the same year. Preseason stats are worthless because some are against starters and some are against 3rd stringers.

Trading Rosenfels was not a bad move. We’ve got too much time invested in TJ to trade him away when no teams would be willing to give anything for him. He still has time to develop into a good QB, he is very physically talented so he may have to rely on that for a while yet if his number is called to play. BUT, let’s just hope that Favre holds out!

I was so hoping the Vikes would finally come to their senses about Jackson after the terrible pre-season he had. Unfortunately because they drafted him so high, they let their dumb egos control the situation. Now we Viking fans are left with the situation that if Favre goes down the whole season goes with him as the defense will not be able to carry the team to the Superbowl with such a clueless useless QB leading the team. Jackson could not even start for the worst CFL team and that is saying a lot. Not only that, what bodes for the future Vikes fans? Now we go searching for a QB AGAIN after this year, when Rosenfels could have given us some hope, till we found one. Letting go of Reynaud again shows lack of intellegence on behalf of the Viking braintrust as now we are left with only Harvin capable of any serious kr threat and is so valuable with the offense that he can’t be over used. Not to mention the fact that we have no quality back up help at RB because Young is no better than a 4 th or 5th RB and Gerhart is untested at this level and did not look good in pre-season. TERRIBLE TERRIBLE MOVES VIKES!!!!

TJ was up against #2 and #3 defenses as well. If his first read was not open, he jumped around like a rabbit in the pocket. Sage never got an opportunity to play with the high power offence of the Vikings, unlike TJ. Give him a chance with the #1 running back and receivers; I’m sure he’ll do a lot better than TJ. Look at their stats from past years. In 2007, Sages pass comp was 64%, TJ, 58%. AP out ran the entire Houston running back core. Add another 800 yds for Taylor. In 2008 Sage’s pass comp was 66% and TJ was 59%. Again AP out ran the entire Houston team. TJ’s passing % should have been much better since the defenses around the league were defending the RUN not the PASS. TJ is not smart in the pocket and panics.

If you wat to look at stats, what counts more: Completion Percentage or Intercetption Count? Passing Yards or Touchdowns? Because Tarvaris had better numbers in both Interception count and Touchdowns.

The big problem is that Viking fans have been spoiled over the past few years. How many teams can say that their last 2 first round draft picks were the Rookie of the Year? Yea there was a pick in the middle of them that was traded away, but that trade brought in the BEST DE in the league! So everyone expects any player to be a superstar the second they join the team, and that is EXTREMELY unrealistic. But so many of you started hating TJack, a project QB, the second he took the field simply because he was thrown in way too early. Now you’re all letting your memory of his early mistakes rule your emotions rather than common sense. Looking at the stats Brett had the worst numbers of ANY of our QBs this preseason: multiple sacks, fumbles and INTs but not ONE person was calling for us to get rid of him!

Give these coaches the benefit of the doubt. Any one of them knows much more about football than any one of us. If that weren’t the case then why are none of you even trying to get your resumes to the NFL?

Just sit back and enjoy the ride, because we all know that 2010 is going to be a fun one! SKOL VIKES!!

  281. By Roger on Sep 4, 2010 | Reply

Sorry folks, I’m disagreeing with the majority of you for the following reasons: Sage had trade value while TJack has basically none. Reynaud was a very good player for us, and he impressed the heck out of me this preseason, but its obvious we had to sweeten the pot to get the Giants to bite. The draft choices we’re receiving from the Giants give us options. We could use them to put together a package to move up in the draft to take a young, promising Quarterback next spring. In my opinion, Spielman has done an outstanding job with the draft, so at least we’re getting something for 2 pretty good players here. All I’m saying is the glass is half full folks-not half empty.

Listen people… AT LEAST we still have Favre for this year and Joe Webb for the future… I just want Joe Webb to develop under Favre, learn all he can and be an incredible quarterback. You can already see Favre has grown to love Joe Webb just like he did with Percy last year… Joe, learn everything you can from Brett and PWN EVERYONE! THE NEXT AARON RODGERS WITH THE LEGS OF ADRIAN PETERSON… I CAN’T WAIT!!! GO JOE WEBB

  283. By PurplePeopleEater on Sep 4, 2010 | Reply

Speaking of Rodgers – that guy LOST 10 games for the Packers in his first season AFTER learning behind Favre for 4 (5?) years! That was with the team that had gone to the NFC Championship game the year before! Now I’d love to see how many of his fans were calling for his head and saying that he could never ammount to anything in the NFL after that.

Jackson is only coming into his 5th year with less time behind the superstar QB. I’m not saying that Jackson is ever going to be as good as Rodgers, but there’s no reason to believe that he has absolutely no chance of successfully leading a football team in the next year or two.

Let’s base the decision on T-Jack or Sage on facts:
    (1) T-Jack’s QB rating has been rising for 4 years in a row with last year at 113.4. On the other hand, Sage’s last 3 years has been dropping each year with his last year at 79.5.
    (2) Sage was allowed to play 3 Qtrs against an awful Rams team and defense, but T-Jack only played 1-2 series.
    (3) In Sage’s 9 years, he’s never won the NFC Offensive Player of the Week, but T-Jack has already won this award in 4 years.
    (4) If Sage had the ability to be a potential starter or be a great backup, why would the Redskins, Dolphins, Texans and now the Vikes get rid of him?
    (5) Chilly and Spielman have to keep the best players otherwise they will lose games and eventually be fired. These two each have millions in salary, a reputation to lose, and a lost Superbowl run if they felt Sage gave them a better chance than T-Jack to win this year. A 41 year old QB can go down anytime this season, so obviously they both sleep better at night knowing T-Jack gives them a better chance of winning.
BASE YOUR DECISIONS ON FACTS (NOT PERSONAL EMOTIONS) AND YOU’LL REALIZE THAT TRADING SAGE WAS A GREAT MOVE FOR ALL VIKINGS FANS!

I believe he will be as he was last yr and when we are back at full strength as far as players we will be even more dangerous.I’m not worried about the team we are fielding this yr at all and ap will have a better yr than last.

It just shows how stupid Childress is, in keeping Jackson because Webb is the same type of runnig QB with no mechanics and is at best a 3rd sting QB on pee wee football. Jackson or Webb will not take us to a Superbowl, they need to draft a franchise QB or trade for one.
Futhermore because of the way Childress has drafted, he has put us behind 5-10 yrs. I have always been a Viking fan , so I should be used to it.
It’s to bad since it seems like they might be heading to CA in the next year

You guys, if the Vikings traded Sage and kept Jackson, is it possible they know something we don’t?

At this point, I’d probbly place Webb as the QB of the future. Sage is 32. I know Ironman Favre is 40, but if you keep Sage you’re only going to get a few seasons, and probably no Super Bowls out of him. The Vikings had to protect Webb. I think Sage’s contract probably had a lot to do with it. Lets be honest, if Favre gets knocked out, we’re not a superbowl team, not this season anyway.

That was the worst mistake that could ever happen. That is keeping TJoke. If Favre gets injured (I hope not) during the Saints game we are done because TJoke can not do it. Now with that trade being done I would have to agree with people and that is get rid of Brad too.

I wasn’t shocked by this move. We all knew that it was going to happen. I was at the last preseason game and was close enough to see that Jackson was just plain inaccurate. It’s a very dumb move by the Vikings coaching staff. However, I believe that Webb is the future. If Favre gets injured be prepared to hear fans screaming “we want Webb!”

OK, all this for 2 guys who would have had little or no impact on this season. Jack blows, but if Favre goes down, season is over anyway. Reynaud had upside, but so do alot of other guys on the team. The guys running the team know what they need. Jack had no trade value, could not keep 4 QB’s, and a few RB’s will have to be cut. Take the picks and run. GO BRETT, VIKES!! ANTHONY, bringing up race makes you an A-HOLE!

I hate to say it but if Favre gets injured bad enough to take him out for most of the season if not all by the dirty aints and then it is TJoke that is going to supposedly lead the team we might as well call a SB dream over and wake up cause we will probably be that of 6-10 this season. Cause Jackson can not lead this team or do anything as QB. True Webb would be a better QB then TJoke. Yes Sage is a better QB then TJoke because he actually gets the ball in front of the recievers or his target instead of throwing it behind him like TJoke. For the people who say Sage is only going against 2nd or 3rd string defense well that may be true but TJoke i am sure is not always going against just 1st string and he still can’t do it.

  301. By T on Sep 4, 2010 | Reply

2nd, 3rd,or 4th string does not matter. The players ,you n I all know chili wants a super bowl and has to do it with Favre. if he goes down all hope is gone. we need corners n receivers and maybe a center. some money is now added losing Sage plus 2 more closer to 53 man roster. Vikings are fine. Pass protection is the question.

Let’s NOT forget that T-Jack DID LEAD THE VIKINGS TO THE PLAYOFFS when Ferrotte got hurt. Also duriing the playoff game against the Eagles, as badly as T-Jack played, he still played better than both Romo and Manning against the same Eagles defense. How many of you would say that Romo and Manning suck?! Also against the Eagles, T-Jack had LESS protection than Favre did against the Saints; yet the only thing we hear about is that Favre played his guts out against the Saints and he was banged up with no protection.

When T-Jack was QB, everyone kept saying we were one player away from going to the Superbowl. Favre comes in and he STILL doesn’t get us to the Superbowl. Also let’s not forget that unlike Favre, T-Jack didn’t have Percy and he had a Sidney Rice that was hurt for most of the year.

Childress should open up the playbook for TJack? he cant even master the simpler half of it he’s been given. This was just another stupid move by a head coach who cant (or won’t) admit he was wrong.

    Dear Mr. Childress,

Please look in the mirror tonight before you go to bed and ask yourself this quesiton. “Why do I keep Tevaraus here even though I know he will never be a good quarterback?” You know he can’t consistently look for 2nd and 3rd receivers because of his insatiable instinct to RUN RUN RUN.

Now I know you have invested lots of money and time into him so maybe it’s because he “should” be a good quarterback by now. Is that the reason, Mr. Childress? Are you keeping him because you can’t admit you made a mistake?

    Why oh why?

There was a personality clash between Chilly and Sage, but to think we have to rely on Jackson if Favre goes down is very troubling. At least with Rosenfels I think the Vikings would have alot better chance at winning games, with Jackson all I see is someone who doesn’t have it and never will. I don’t see how Chilly would have Tjack rated over Sage. Tjack looked terrible and at least Sage looked fairly good.

Its nice to know I’m not the only one that supports t-jack and i read some really good posts that are 100% true. T-jack did lead us to the playoffs and did improve greatly when he got in before the playoffs and had a high qb rating the last games he played and low int rate. I have heard some good things about him since favre has been a viking that tells me when he gets his chance we will see a even more improved qb. Its also true he didn’t have harvin and rice as he does now. We have to realize that this was a very conservitive offense with chilly calling the plays so jacksons abilities were not used to the fullist.I’m still convinced we have a team that can go all the way with the players we have now. What we need now is good play calling and the o-line to protect whomever we put on the field as qb.

Let’s set the record straight. It is not that people think Sage Rosenfels was so great. He did not play a regular season down for the Vikings. It is that T-Jack did, and those of us who were watching NEVER WANT TO SEE THAT AGAIN. To be an NFL caliber quarterback, you must be able to read a defense and deliver the ball on time and on target. If he cannot, nothing else he can do makes him a quaterback. The Vikings had several chances to secure a “quarterback of the future” in the last draft. That continually passed. Even with Farve coming back this year, one year to learn the position would have been nice. The Vikings can go deep in the playoffs or even Superbowl without Farve. If the quarterback can read a defense and deliver the ball. T-Jack has not shown this ability. Rosenfels might have. We still need a good pocket quarterback of the future. If he is mobile, good. If not, who cares. Some of the best quarterbacks in NFL history ran the 40 in days not seconds. Examples-Morano, Elway, Sims, Montana. Quarterback do not have to run and often should not run. We have someone to run with the ball, his name is Peterson. Please ask our entire front office, not just Childress, to remove their heads from their fourth point of contact and draft a real young quarterback. And in the mean time, protect Farve as he is now the ONLY legitimate quarterback on the team. But having said all this, I remain a loyal Vikings fan-win, lose or draw.

Some of u have to be kidding the way u are judging jackson. Most qb’s get a couple of years of being under cener before they are criticized and jackson hasn’t had that chance. He has been in and out around and about. How can u expect him to show his skills and get better without a good solid yr under center where he can learn from his mistakes and correct him. Look at sanchez and how they thought he was the savior and how his yr ended.Jackson has all the tools to be a starter and since favre has been there I have read good reports on his progress and until he gets the team in his hands and has atleast a yr to lead the team we can’t judge him so harshly. We now have 3 good qb’s in my book now that we have webb and we will be ok.Chilly has turned this team around and he does have my support but he needs to be relieved of his conservitive play calling.

Everybody learned from the Saints: rush Favre. I saw the 49’ers starters do this in preseason and Favre only lasted 4 plays.
I saw the Seahawks starters do this, and Favre fumbled the ball while he was being sacked.
I didn’t get to see the Denver game, since it wasn’t televised where I live. But I think getting rid of Rosenfelts over Tavaris Jackson is a HUGE mistake.
Like one commenter said, “If Favre stays healthy then no one will notice this trade.” But Childress is really gambling/rolling the dice in this situation which he shouldn’t do as a head coach.
I started out this pre-season saying the entire NFC East sucks. Well, folks, Childress just made the Giants better. Now 2/3 of the population of this country will be happier that one of their teams from the NFC East (The NY Giants) will have Rosenfelts and Reynaud on their team.

  350. By Vikings' Fan on Sep 5, 2010 | Reply

John Madden once said on national television, “Tavaris Jackson doesn’t have the skills to be a good NFL quarterback.”
I agreed with him when the Vikings lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in a NFC WIld Card game in the Metrodome. That’s when FOX Sports announcer, Troy Aikman, said, “The Eagles have the Vikings right where they want them.”
And then we kept seeing TJ throw the ball over everybody’s heads into the sideline.
I hope your gamble pays off, Childress. If it doesn’t, then I recommend your immediate termination.

  352. By Just The Facts On T-Jack on Sep 5, 2010 | Reply

For all of you that prefer Sage over T-Jack, I’m still waiting for any of you to give me a single fact that can justify your conclusion. If you can’t, then I’m guessing you’re all Packer fans disguised as Vikings fans. In other words, you all want to see T-Jack go, because you’re afraid of him! The way he’s improving each and every year, he’s going to beat Rogers and the Packers for the next 10 years!

Here’s my Top Ten List as to why we need to keep T-Jack over Sage based on FACTS.
    (1) T-Jack’s QB rating has been rising 4 years in a row, but Sage has been dropping 3 years in a row.
    (2) T-Jack only played 1 series against that awful Rams defense, but Sage got almost 3 quarters.
    (3) Sage has never won the NFC Offensive Player of the Week, but T-Jack has.
    (4) If Sage was any good, then why would the Redskins, Dolphins, Texans and now the Vikes get rid of him?
    (5) The Giants prefer T-Jack, because he’s beaten them TWICE as a starter.
    (6) Chilly and Spielman have to keep the best players otherwise they will lose games and eventually be fired.
    (7) Open competition was LAST preseason and T-Jack proved he was better by being the only QB in the NFL preseason with a PERFECT QB rating.
    (8) Since coming in against Detroit, T-Jack has the NFL’s FOURTH highest QB rating (with a minimum of 150 pass attempts).
    (9) According to Chilly he and the coaching staff evaluate Sage and Tarvaris EVERY day in practice.
    (10) Favre was quoted in the paper as saying, “When I first met Tarvaris, I was most impressed by the amount of football knowledge he had!”

  353. By Conner on Sep 5, 2010 | Reply

I have thought long and hard about things. Childress could easily be replaced, he’s made pre-season practice pretty much optional. I’m okay with this as long as he expects winning to be mandatory. I quit playing football in 9th grade, so I’m hardly John Madden with a telestrator, but I often predict the offensive plays before the snap. Obviously, the defense does as well. Let’s look at the thinking of Coach Bevell (Joined at the hip with CHilly). Last year in preseason tried running his version of the wildcat in Houston which called for Favre to lay a block. WOW! Why not send Favre down on kickoffs to take out the wedge. How stupid. A coach with more enthusiasm and common sense would take what’s left of this team and bring home a trophy. (John Gruden? Steve Mariucci even?) These two clowns don’t know how to maximize the talent of their star players.

Meanwhile, the Packers drafted well. Have a great quarterback that they aren’t going to expose to unnecessary risk and stupidity.

As far as picking up another teams cuts, the only team Chilly will consider taking a player from is the Eagles, and like the Metrodome, the smallest room in the Eagles stadium is for the team trophy room.

Yea, everyone agree’s, IF Favre gets hurt…. but get real. He’s started, what, 18 or 19 straight years without missing a start.

But he has steadily improved to the point where he is now worthy of NFL starting QB status. At times he’s looked awesome and at times he’s made mistakes. But all QBs do, especially those who only get occasional real game reps. If Favre misses any significant length of time this season, the Vikes will be fine. Are they as good with TJack as with Favre? No, but remember to whom you’re comparing him.

I’ve read most of the comments above, but this season will still come down to coaching. I rank Chilly as the second worst coach the Vikings have ever had,two years ago the Vikings start Tjack after 3 terrible games he gets benched for Gus. Gus leads the team to the playoffs, he gets hurt toward the end of the season so Tjack plays a great game against Arizona then he plays the final game versus New Gaints if they haddn’t pulled their starters in the second half the Viking would have lost that game. Then in the play-off chilly starts Tjack and the rest is history. I feel if we win that game superbowl bound. Last year say what you want about the game with the Saints with all the turnovers and every thing else we still had a chance to win the game and go to the superbowl. But then our amazing coanching staff calls a time out to set up a play to gain a couple yards for a game winning fiedgoal only to send TWELVE count them TWELVE players on the field. Another brilliant move from the great Mind of Mr.Brad Childress. When they lost the game against the Saints I said right there Viking go 10-6 this year don’t make the play-offs.

Im starting to believe that article about the players and farve not having respect for childress. Its hard to respect someone that makes the stupid decisions that he does. My theory why the saints did so well last season is their play calling. They called aggressive plays knowing they had great players who succeed. Instead of run run pass punt. or sit on a 7 point lead.

oh well who knows maybe next year, maybe a new coach ???? let’s just see how this season go’s first !!!!! you can’t blame him for everything, just some of it….if we can keep favre from getting hurt I think we will be fine this season… GO VIKINGS !!!!!

glad there is an organization that can acknowledge it made a mistake in judging a QB and talent. Not talking about the Vikings, its the Raiders. TJack is our Jamarcus Russell……. but we just keep holding on. Come on chilly, admit your mistake before its too late

Carl T-Jack started the first 2 games in 2008 but do you remember all the droped ball on 3rd downs (run, run, PASS) that stoped dives. How about the best known drop of Shiancoe in the endzone against the Colts. There were so many I thought we still had Troy Williamson on the team..

It seems to have been pretty well expressed already, but i just can’t see how Tjoke in practice has a thing to do with how he does on the field of play. He sucked all pre-season, as he has most of the time in games, and Rosenfels has been really good. Dumbdress just proved, once again, that he is a total idiot.

Sounds to me like Chilly has got a pride issue here… He really shuffled out a lot to get T-Jack, trading up in the 2nd round was it? I guess he wants to make him good so his decision isnt a total fluke. But that isn’t gonna happen. Although I will give that Sage’s stellar performance this pre season was a lot credited to second teamers against him. But seeing T-Jack fall to 1st teamers of the Rams is pretty discouraging :/

Will someone on the vikings practice squad just take T-Jack out at the knees so we can be done with the waste of a roster spot!

That was low man, real low. Support your team, no matter what.

Jake u are a pure idiotic fool to even say that someones knees should be taken out, it would be like my saying I wish ur son or daughter got hit and crippled by a car.I don’t care how bad I think a player is that kind of thought would never cross my mind. GROW THE EFF UP

Great trade! We got draft picks to build depth with next coupla years. QB Sage getting on with age and hes not that outstanding. RB Raynaud was a shocker but with a team thats fully loaded, we still got something for him. WR Webb is the key componant here – a future QB Star in the makings!!! This one is to watchout for – hes a keeper! An outstanding hybrid athlete! Childress knows his duties well.

For those wondering about the other two teams in the National Football League’s Super Bowl championship over Payton Manning and the michael kors outlet through most of this year. It seems that the Saints have had the more successful running attack. Y Giants cap According to a report from Mike Freeman of CBS that Saints captain Jonathan Vilma offered $10, 000 bounty on Brett Favre, as NFL claimed he did Monday.
