So far I think Sage needs to be cut/traded. With all the talent on the team he doesn’t add anything to make him worth wasting a roster spot on. It took him nearly 2 quarters to look comfortable in the pocket as he made too many mistakes and doesn’t have enough years remaining to be a player of the future. On the other side of it, Webb is just a rookie and while it looks like he’s been putting too much air under the ball, I love his speed and potential for improvement as the #3 QB for 2010.

I was disappointed with the play of Albert Young after how much praise he has been given from camp, but he often got lost in the backfield and was caught for a loss of yards. Conversely I think that Reynaud looked much better and had some sweet moves to get the extra yards.

I’ve liked what I’ve seen out of all the rookies so far, which gives us good promise for future years. The D-line has been awesome too, and it’s going to be hard to cut any of these guys with all the sacks they’ve been piling up. I really think the defense is going to be leaving us with some of the most difficult cuts, which is very encouraging.

I understand using Sage as trade bait, but cut him? We used a fourth round draft pick on him and he just threw 3 touchdowns (yes i know its a bad rams team and a preseason game). Favre will be back….just wait. Then next year we need to draft a stud qb or something!

  4. By PurplePeopleEater on Aug 14, 2010 | Reply

If nobody is willing to trade for Sage, then yes cut him. We simply don’t have room for 4 QBs on this team if we are going to make a superbowl run. Depth at other positions will be crucial, both for injuries and substitutions so that our guys are as fresh as possible on every play.

I would even argue cutting the 2nd kicker that we acquired in the offseason. Our schedule is just too tough this year to use up roster spots on guys who will be spending the majority (if not all) of every game on the bench.

Hey, I am trying to get this to Favre before it is too late.

    Also, What do you think?

I hate to be such a harsh critic but… how hard is it to delete a video once you’ve put it on youtube?

Nice idea and all, but you can hardly hear the background music even when you’re not singing and (can you take the criticism?) there were a lot of false notes…probably would have been a lot better if a hot chick sang it. I mean …whoever did the casting might want to try a bit harder next time to define what the goal of the movie really is…

OK, you can have your opinions about Sage, but seriously. Why after THAT performance would you trash talk him? he played 2 quarters total, so If it took him that long to warmup and still throw 300 yards and 3 TD’s it can’t be that bad. I am very aware of the situation being the pre season and the Rams but if we don’t use the pre season as an opportunity for people to make an impression, it’s worthless. I think T-Jack better worry about losing his Job. Thought Sage should have been #2 last year. I have lots of faith in T-Jack as well but I hope this QB situation isn’t set in stone as cut Sage. Give credit where credit is due people.

Flamcake – TJack played the first series, and then Sage took over until the 4th quarter. So he had all of the 2nd & 3rd quarter and the majority of the 1st. I am trashtalking because receivers continuously had to stop and wait for the ball to arrive. Any half respectable defense would have been picking him off all day.

I couldn’t watch the game but did watch some highlights and rosenfels look pretty good, again its early against the horrid rams but we will have a good test against the 49ers next week I’d say let sage play full 2 quarters and tj play 3rd and 4th. Wasn’t really happy about giving up a td on special teams, but I like how coach called an aggressive gameplan nobody shows mercy in the nfl either you kill or be killed and we need to have that mentality on offense. Albert and tobe heard didn’t do much I would still give the edge to albert. Penalties need to go down overall great win but by no means we played a perfect game but we have depth I was expecting more of a blowout.

Purple, what were u watching? Sage looked very good. Jack has been here 4 yrs and still does not look comfortable at QB. As for Lloyd, he can be a very big weapon. My first time on this blog, but u don’t seem to know much about the game.

  13. By Stoney on Aug 15, 2010 | Reply

The announcers even commented several times on how calm Sage was in the pocket. The TD to Marco M was the only pass a receiver waited for.

I believe that Brett will make up his mind by next Monday or Tuesday, the week before the third preseason game, with Monday and Tuesday being big news days! I think he will retire and that he will hold his press conference in Old Hattisburg Miss.. SSSSOOOOOO, my POINT, why isn’t T-Jack playing or grabbing more snaps than he did last night since, from what we all have been told, he is the clear cut number one QB if Brett doesn’t come back!? T-Jack doesn’t need the work? T-Jack is ready to go? T-Jack knows this “O” like the back of his hand? COME ON! Get his A$% IN THERE AND SHOW US AND HIMSELF WHAT HE CAN OR CAN’T DO!

I MEAN REALLY, I LOOKED UP THE BOX SCORE WHILE THE GAME WAS GOING AND SAW THAT T-JACK WAS 2-4 PASSING….MY FIRST THOUGHT…..DID T-JACK ALREADY GET HURT?!!! OHHHH NOOOOO?! NO..THAT WAS NOT IT, THAT’S ALL THE PLAYING TIME HE GOT! COME ON MAN! OUR THIRD STRINGER GOT MORE THAN THAT…HE WAS 4-6 PASSING! I DON’T GET IT!

  26. By fmfan on Aug 15, 2010 | Reply

most of the starters only played 1 series. the rest of the game was for the players that are trying to make the team. I am not sure when the first cut has to be made but there are alot of good players that will not make the team.

  27. By OLDSCHOOL on Aug 15, 2010 | Reply

T-Jack needs more than 1 series! PERIOD!!

  28. By fmfan on Aug 15, 2010 | Reply

ALL the starters need more that 1 series!

  29. By xmasboy on Aug 15, 2010 | Reply

Alright, I have faith in T-Jack, but come on people. It’s been four years and yes he has potential, but after seeing Joe Webb out there for just a couple series Im thinking new and better project for Chilly .

  30. By Skol_Vikings on Aug 15, 2010 | Reply

Webb may have stumbled into being the QB of the future, but he’s a couple of years off. For once I’d like to see the Vikings do what… and please don’t flame me for this …. the Packers and Eagles did. They drafted a decent talent ahead of time and let Rodgers and Klob develop, instead of throwing them into the fire.

08 really are you still crying because i called you tool. first off ive never doubted tjack ive always said more than anything he needs the confidence of the team and coaches. as far as favre goes you cant deny that he had a great season last year. in fact i bet you were right there cheering every time #4 threw a td . and if you took the year off simply cause 4 was our qb well that just proves my point that you’re a tool. besides i thought you weren’t going to post anymore after you made an a@# out of yourself on numerous occasions. yet here you still are. whats wrong no friends, all alone, mommy and daddy not love you enough, or are you just a TOOL?

Well, FSN’s schedule says that the English Premier League is airing on Aug 15th at 11pm cst. Not Vikes replay. Might be getting mad in a few hours…

  33. By PurplePeopleEater on Aug 15, 2010 | Reply

skol_vikings – I agree with you on that completely. We need to be looking into the future with our QB for once, and Webb just may have a shot at being that guy, even if he’s a long shot.

Stoney – Sage had some decent numbers against a horrible team (worst record of all 32 teams last year). The TD was the most blatent one that a receiver had to stop for, but others were bouncing off of defenders’ backs who were already beat deep. Any defense that had a clue out there would have had the awareness to turn around and catch the ball. So I hope people will forgive my criticism, but Sage’s stats were scewed in his favor many times that game by a less than competant defense. I’m seeing it as a positive, that hopefully will result in some team offering up a mid-late round pick for Sage after those gifts he received from St Louis.

I couldn’t watch the game on KARE 11 because I live in north central Wisconsin, and I couldn’t listen on KFAN because it said they did not “stream” the games. (I also can’t pull in any of the western Wis. radio stations.) I saw that the game would be shown on FSN at 11 p.m. Sunday, which is a little late for me, but I turned it on … and it said it was blacked out! So, I had to wait another hour to start watching it on the NFL Network. Too tired to watch the whole game, though … but I’m sure glad to hear that the Vikings won! D*mn, I hope I don’t have to go through this all season! (Although, if Brett DOES return, chances are some Wisconsin TV stations will air some of the regular-season games, as long as they don’t interfere with Packer games.) Go, Vikes!

Sage played well enough, even if against a poor team. T-Jack, doesn’t have it. Great practice player, but not clutch in close games or coming from behind. I think he has all the skills, but is a poor communicator, probably not much of a leader. Always go back to you gut instincts when you rate QB’s. Every time you watch a game you size up the opposing QB. Either you fear them because you know they are capable of lighting up your team and ruining your day, or you don’t. I feared Favre in Green Bay, Peyton Manning, not Eli. I feared Mcnabb, but not Romo. I fear Rogers now in Green Bay. Can you honestly say that if your team was playing Minnesota, you would fear T-Jack? Just the little I saw of Webb, I think he has alot more upside the T-Jack. Hopefully Brett comes back. Then I’d keep Sage as #2 and Webb # 3.

  39. By PurplePeopleEater on Aug 16, 2010 | Reply

I’d fear TJack more than Sage, but that’s only based on what I was able to see out of Sage the other day compared to what I saw out of TJack back in ’08. I don’t understand why everybody is talking like they know all about what kind of player TJack is now after we haven’t seen him play for more than a couple of minutes in the last 2 years. All we have to go off of at this point is the coaches’ grades on the guy, and it appears that they are grading him higher than Sage. Don’t forget that these coaches are the guys that got the talent on the team to where it is today.

Meanwhile, Webb has promise but will take a few years to mold into a starter if he works hard enough at it.

The 1st preseason game was for the 3rd stringers. T Jack has been playing with the 1st teamers. Pointless to have him in there all game with guys he has not really even practiced with. Preseason game 2 we will see much more of T Jack. He will be the QB if Favre doesn’t show.
