Fan Appreciation Day At Camp

Posted by Mike Wobschall on August 12, 2010 – 7:37 am

The Vikings will wrap up 2010 Verizon Vikings Training Camp in Mankato today and they’ll do it on Fan Appreciation Day. Training camp crowds have once again been great and I expect a new attendance record will be set this year, so the Vikings have many reasons to be appreciative of their fans.

There is 1 practice open to the public today and it will run from 9:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. During this practice, fans can llok for the Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders as they pass out great prizes and they can also register to win autographed Vikings merchandise and get autographs from the entire Minnesota Vikings roster following practice.

Vikings Head Coach Brad Childress will meet with reporters following practice and we’ll carry his press conference live on, so be sure to tune in for that.

I would have to say that I am extremely disappointed in one particular member of the Vikings. My son came all the way from California to see the training and purchased a team members plaque to have signed. When my son saw this particular team member he asked for him to sign it and he shook his head no. How could you break a young mans heart by refusing to take 10 seconds of your precious time to bring a smile of joy to one young mans face. Shame on you Jared Allen. On the other hand I would like to thank Adrian Peterson for taking the time to sign his jersey he especially bought to have signed. You are worth your weight in GOLD!

I am extremely dissapointed in Fan Appreciation Day! Despite the craziness extreme heat, and chaos, we brought a group of people with disabilities to watch their favorite players. We walked to the part of training camp where there are places for people in wheelchairs and they had it blocked off and would not let us in because of too many people in there. There were 100’s of people who were without disabilities and ambulatory in this area. After being denied access and leaving this area, we walked out of training camp, and around a few blocks to see if we could get in the gated area where our group has gone several other times this year and in the past. The security people there refused to let us in despite pleading with them. They told us our best bet was to go to the fences by the field house where the Vikings players go after practice or to go back in where we were previously at. We went by the field house and got ZERO autographs. The security guards need to lighten up a bit come on what are we going to do. The security guards were asked by me why certain people (one person in a wheelchair) were able to be there and we could not go in there. There was plenty of room for our group. Later on, we saw another big group of people with disabilites being let over there. How fair was this? I had some very big fans in our group of people who were VERY VERY disappointed. They stood out in the heat and sun for 2 hours for nothing!!!!! All in all, I learned that we definitely are NEVER going back on Fan Appreciation Day, the security guards need to lighten up, they need some special accomodations for people with disabilities, and also need a bigger facility to host this!!!
~It would be nice if they could do autographs in a air conditioned building for these people with disabilities who also have high medical needs and have a hard time handeling the heat!
****Someone needs to look into this because I am from Mankato and have gone to the Training Camp for many years and it has become a bad experience and tends to get worse year after year.****
