Practice #1 In The Books

Posted by Mike Wobschall on July 30, 2010 – 4:52 pm

The Vikings wrapped up the 1st practice of 2010 Verizon Vikings Training Camp late Friday afternoon in front of a healthy crowd of fans and a large media contingent. All in attendance were anxious to see the 2-time defending NFC North champions open another season, the 5th under Vikings Head Coach Brad Childress’ tenure.

Speaking of Childress, he held his annual opening press conference right before the afternoon practice, expressing optimism and excitement about the upcoming season while also fielding questions that ranged from QB Brett Favre to Adrian Peterson to injured defensive starters LB E.J. Henderson and CB Cedric Griffin.

We’ll have more thoughts from Childress’ press conference and we’ll share some notes from practice soon right here on the vikings.com Blog, so stay tuned for that.

The weather cooperated with the Vikings on Friday, as mostly cloudy skies refused to produce rain and eventually gave way to some sunshine toward the end of practice. The team practiced in shells and helmets, with the offense sporting white jerseys and the defense in purple. I anticipate the team to be in pads for at least 1 practice Saturday.

There are 2 practices scheduled for tomorrow – a morning workout from 9:00 a.m. to 11:15 and then an evening practice from 7:00 to 8:55. There will be a fireworks display following the evening practice, hence the theme “Football and Fireworks” on the trusty vikings.com training camp calendar.

Stay tuned for a few more updates tonight and early tomorrow morning before the Vikings head out for a pair of practices on Saturday.

I like how they are having practice at night very good idea that way when they play in the regular season night games they don’t get tired and sleepy we all know what games the vikings feel asleep in last year sunday night games.

so Mike are you saying OLD MAN FAVRE is the only player not at camp? Everyone on the team should text, email or call him and tell him to get his backside to camp or retire.

Maybe they should put Favre’s jersey on a practice dummy, that way he would sort of be there.
It wouldn’t be the first time.

LOL @ Paul. I think if I remember what you’re referring to, that jersey had a different color to it…

FMFAN, what’s the rush? Brett is 40+ y.o. No need to wear him down at camp. He has a long season ahead. If he retires the vikes season will be over sooner than later, with no hope of a ring.

    Hi Mike,
Thanks for all the great coverage. Here is a major concern for us die-hard purple bleeding fans; the quality of the video and audio on the press conferences. It absolutely horrible. You cannot hear the questions being asked. think of how stupid that is. The coach starts commenting and your just going “what??” “who?” and so forth . Please help with this problems. Other teams fans must think we are idiots. Espesially the one who are themselves.
