Update On Draft Pick Signings; QB Webb Signs

Posted by Mike Wobschall on July 28, 2010 – 12:09 pm

With training camp only 2 days away, now is the time for any remaining unsigned picks to put pen to paper on their rookie deals. To date, 3 Vikings have officially signed their contracts – FB Ryan D’Imperio, LB Nate Triplett and QB Joe Webb, who just signed his deal today.

There are several reports out there indicating that other Vikings rookies have signed their deal. And while those reports likely have validity to them, we can’t officially confirm a signing until pen meets paper. Once that happens, we’ll post it here on the blog.

In the meantime, here’s an update on some of the reports regarding Vikings draft picks and their contracts…

DE Everson Griffen – According to ESPN.com’s Kevin Seifert, Griffen has agreed to terms with the Vikings.

OL Chris DeGeare – Our friends at the Star Tribune are citing NFL sources as saying DeGeare and the Vikings have agreed to terms.

TE Mickey Shuler – The website http://www.nationalfootballpost.com cited a source as saying Shuler has agreed to terms.

That leaves 2nd rounders CB Chris Cook and RB Toby Gerhart, both of whom I expect will be to camp on time. We’ll update this list when appropriate, so stay tuned.

Its good that we are finally getting these late round guys signed. Hopefully Cook and Gerhart will soon follow before training camp starts.

Think about this – on Nov 7 agianst Florida Atlantic Joe Webb threw for 292 yards and ran for 123. Agianst Memphis he threw for 378 yards and ran for 52. Agianst UCF – 322 in the air and 137 on the ground. Rice, 221 air and 194 ground. I can’t wait to see this kid play QB for the Vikes in preseason. 21 TD 8 INT 58.9 completions. He is the first QB in NCAA history to rush for over 1000 yards and throw for over 2000 yards in consecutive seasons. SUPER FREAK! Now that he is signed, we just have to find a way to get him on the field.

Thanks for the update Mike…looks like the Vikings are in good shape heading in to camp. No distractions…or at least none that will hurt us.

Ok guys, now we have 3 back up quarter backs. I think its time to trade Tjack, I’d give Joe the benefit of the doubt that he is already better for the vikings than Tjack.

Tjack is one of the best backups in the league. Why trade him? My sister has has a stronger arm than Sage! Trade or cut him. Sage cost the Vikings a lot more money too.

I think Webb has a chance to be the QB of the future…and I hope he can push Tjack for that backup spot, but right now he has to officially get around Sage and find a way to make this roster. I would love to see the Vikes use the wildcat (or Minnesota’s version the “chillycat”) and find a way to get Joe on the field.

Can’t wait until preseason more excited about the season opener I hope the vikings attack on offense from the start to finish show no mercy keep attacking and we should be good. No need to step on the brakes.

I know it is way too early to even think of the opener on sept 9th down in New Orleans. It will not be just another game!!!! The streets of the twin cities will have the party this time. A nice 42-17 victory will kick start our season . Shore up the areas that need the help, focus there and just let them play.
