Day 4 And Day 5 Journals From NFL-USO Coaches Tour

Posted by Mike Wobschall on July 9, 2010 – 10:24 am

NFL Director of Community Affairs David Krichavsky has been doing a great job of detailing Brad Childress’ journey as a part of this year’s NFL-USO Coaches Tour in the Persian Gulf. We posted his journal entries from Days 1-3 on and now his journal updates from Days 4 and 5 are available.

Day 4 was special for Childress because he was re-united with his son, Andrew, who is serving in the Marines. Click here to read the Day 4 update. Day 5 was also filled with action, as the coaches remained at Bagram Air Base. Their 1st stop after breakfast was at the Pat Tillman USO Center, which was built with funds donated by the NFL and was dedicated in 2005 as a memorial to the late Arizona Cardinals safety and Army Ranger. The Tillman USO Center serves over 135,000 troops annually, providing our servicemen and women with a comfortable place to relax, get a warm cup of coffee, call or e-mail home to loved ones, or simply feel a touch of home.

Day 5 also brought the coaches to the Joint Theatre Hospital and then a meeting with a Special Forces unit. Click here to read the entire Day 5 update.

I recommend checking out those updates when you have a moment because the reports are detailed and they’re accompanied by great photos.

Favre Nominated For 4 ESPY Awards

Posted by Mike Wobschall on July 9, 2010 – 8:25 am

ESPN will air its annual ESPY Awards show on Wednesday, July 14 at 8:00 p.m. CT and the Vikings will be well-represented because QB Brett Favre has been nominated in 4 categories. An astute reader – Susan Owens – pointed this out to me and we wanted to pass the information along to all of you so you can log on to this website and cast your vote for #4.

The 4 categories in which Favre has been nominated are: Record-Breaking Performance (set new FL record for consecutive starts); Best Play (game-winning TD pass against the 49ers); Performance Under Pressure (return to Lambeau Field); and Best NFL Player.

ESPN’s ESPY website is easy to navigate and includes a slick voting system, so log on by clicking the link included in the 1st paragraph of this entry and cast your vote(s).
