Southern Miss To Open NCAA Play vs. Clemson

Posted by Ryan Cardinal on May 31, 2010 – 11:02 am

A few weeks ago, Vikings QB Brett Favre told the baseball team at his alma mater, Southern Miss, that if they made a return trip to the College World Series, he would return to the Vikings in 2010.  So it’s only natural that Vikings fans would now keep tabs on the Golden Eagles for the rest of the season.

Southern Miss knocked off Rice yesterday to capture the Conference USA title and, with the win, secured an NCAA berth.

Just moments ago, it was announced that SMU was placed in the Auburn Regional and will take on Clemson in their opening round game of the NCAA Tournament.  Auburn, the host school, will take on Jacksonville State in the other opening round matchup, with both of those games being played on Friday.

Also, congratulations to head coach John Anderson and the Minnesota Golden Gophers, who also won their conference tournament over the weekend and were placed in the Fullerton Regional and will play the host team, Cal State Fullerton, in the first game.  New Mexico and Stanford are the other two teams in their regional which gets underway on Friday as well.
