Griffen Sure To Learn Much From Pair Of Vikings DEs

If there’s any indication that Everson Griffen will have a productive career as a Minnesota Viking, it might just be shown by the round in which he was selected.

Griffen joins a DL core that has a number of great players – Jared Allen, Ray Edwards, Pat Williams and Kevin Williams.  The mentoring from this group of DL will surely be of great value for Griffen, but he might be able to relate best to a pair of Vikings DEs that share a very similar draft experience to that of the rookie DE.

Both Ray Edwards and Brian Robison were selected in the 4th round in the NFL Draft by the Vikings – Edwards as the 127th overall pick in 2006 and Robison as the 102nd overall pick in 2007.

Edwards and Robison have both had dynamic careers thus far as Vikings and the production they have shown over the past couple of seasons may set the bar for Griffen.  I cannot speak for either Edwards or Robison but I am sure that both of the former 4th round selections are excited to work with and tutor the 6-3, 273 pound rookie from USC.

How much depth at DE is too much? I’m thrilled with Robison and Edwards and Robison could use more game reps. How does Griffen help this situation?

He is alittle light for the position but he could help to give edwards a blow I also think the Vikings need one more inside DL pick in this draft.

This actually might be the Vikings best draft pick. I am not a fan of any of the others, except I can tolerate Toby Gerhart, other than way paid too steep a price for him. There were better options or needs, aor he could have fallen.

Griffen is a beast. He was ranked 3rd best DE, and projected as a first round pick. He runs a 4.65 40, and bench pressed 225 lbs 32 times. The normal DE was low to mid 20s.. He is a bit lazy, but recorded 9.5 sacks….He is athletic enough he can drop back and act as a LB…..

Griffen has the potential be a starter. He has outstanding speed, excellent strength, and comes from a competitive program. The defensive line is already stacked, but now it has the potential to be like that Dallas Cowboy front of the 90’s.
