Now the Vikes can concentrate their Draft efforts on LB, DL, and OL. Hopefully they’ll pick up another RB by the end of training camp.

I’m guessing that the Browns and Chiefs will be fighting over Clausen and McCoy.

What a waste of a pick. I thought we traded down to ADD a few more picks plus draft CLAUSEN with that 34th overall. I’m guessing McCoy or Tony Pike will be drafted by the Vikes sometime tonight. Cook will be a bust. I hate our organization , especially when it comes to drafting SECONDARY positions.

People that are dissing this pick quickly, because we didn’t draft a glam position

    a) don’t know how important corner is to today’s NFL

    b) should give more respect to Spielman and Studwell, who have been among the best in the biz at talent evaluation in the last few years…

    Patience, morons.

I think the selection of a CB is a good choice; I have been a Vikes fan for 37 years, and have been witness to many years of secondary failure to stop the pass on 3rd down… an area that is now vastly improving. With a pass-happy league, investing in defense players is a wise strategy.

4.46 speed in the 40 and led all DB’s in broad jump at the combine–size and speed! Good pick! Good tackler on a good team.

Good pick, maybe something to the kyle wilson drop off but i have faith in spielman and chilli’s decisions(excluding t-jack). corner was a major need for us, classen wasnt,he would have been a bad pick. we can adress qb next yr via FA or later in the draft. Lets go OL, LB, DL with next pick

We can pick up a veteran RB in free agency probably so we shouldn’t waste any pick on that. I think our first pick should have went OL but would have settled for safety I personally wouldn’t have picked a qb but of them all I wouldn’t have gotten mad about clausen cause he was the most ready and polished but I don’t think Vikings fans should sweat so much on this pick cause what if they chose him thinking he could play CB or safety either way we need him

But no, it makes sense, all of you Spielman, Studwell and Childress haters must actually know something that those guys don’t. That is more logical.

We needed a CB bad!!!! Mays would be nice but he still might drop too! People need to stop reading Mock draft boards and think they know what they are talking about.
The last 3 drafts with Studs / Spiels have been GREAT to say the least! They probably wanted one of the CB that went before them like McCourty…
I’m not sure I trust Lito as a CB he looked worse than Paymah last year. Grif is hurt and might not be ready till week 4-6 and they dont want to rush him back either like with Winfield and be a liability.
If Claussen is that good….why has he dropped this far and why would Denver trade up to get Tebow and skip him….think about it
    Go Vikes.

You Tebow ,Mc Coy and Clausen fans get a clue. Tavaris Jackson is the future and will do quite well.
Now only an idiot would compare him to Favre but the guy has skills that are still being molded. It’s easy to see he got throwen in to early with chilly’s conservative offense however as Chilly starts to see the results of an open offense Jackson will thrive.
It always amazes me when people repeat everything they hear even using the same words to dis a player. Jackson is young and still learing but will do well.
If space permitted we all could name at least 50 QB’s that are or we’re worse than Jackson. Give the kid a break and let’s see what he learned from Farve.

I have no issue with Cook, however, he would have been still available for our next pick. While we need depth in the secondary, Farve is 40 (going to be 41) and still hasn’t said for sure if he is going to come back to play. T-Jack and Sage are for sure not going to get us to the playoffs, much less the Super Bowl. Why not look for depth? Sure there are busts out there, but to say that we can’t take a chance means that we will never have a franchise QB. Does anyone have any ideas on who we can realistically get to be the future leader of our team?

I don’t understand why so many people are so negative. Cook haas good heighth and could see time, or become a safety eventually. Also cornerback is a position of need. He adds depth. Chill out people.

I really question this move. We passed up a great deal of talent to draft a corner who was projected to go much later. You pass up jahvid best…give him to lions, then trade down for toby gearhart in 2nd round. I just don’t get it. Passed up to much talent at 34 for a guy u couldve easily picked up in round 3 or 4.

  107. By Conner on Apr 23, 2010 | Reply

Andrew claims this is the worst pick in Vikings history. He must have forgotten Denny Green picking Demetrius Underwood despite Underwood’s college coach (Nick Saban) saying he missed key games with phantom injuries. Didn’t Underwood go AWOL on about day 3 in Mankato. In watching the college game, I rarely get focused on secondary players. Players in top programs are like the Yankee’s farmhands, they are way overhyped. You can’t criticize the pick on draft night, all the athletic ability in the world but the wrong skill set for a system, spells disaster. He may be the perfect pick for the Vikes secondary.

Love the Gerhart pick, besides Gerhart punnished Mayes in head to head during his college career at Stanford. As NFL network reported, defensive teams playing the Vikes better have those chinstraps tight!

  108. By Conner on Apr 23, 2010 | Reply

Critics of the Vikes front office have to look at the progress. 6 wins, 8 wins, 10 wins, and 12 wins. I’ve called 2/3rds of the Vikings plays before the snap of the ball, so obviously pro defenses know what is coming at them but still struggle to stop it. Bevell really lacks creativity, and Childress has to take his share of that responsibility. That being said, they are improving depth through the draft and free agency. Read Matt Taibi’s article in Men’s Journal on how to pick in the draft. It is hilarious, but it also mentions a few of the Vikes great picks that many others passed on. Don’t sleep on the Vikes later round picks, they’ll build depth and be payroll friendly. How many top picks has Detroit had in the past 10 years and they have 2 who will pan out.

Why do these people think we need to draft a QB? Favre will be back for 1 more year and did they not notice Jackson’s improvement the few times he did play last year? Even with the second team offense he scored points. Favre taught our receivers how to finish running their routes instead of running straight to the defender and it would be senseless to think Jackson has not learned anything from Favre let alone now he has recievers that can actually get open. Cook sounds like a good pick because he could even play saftey if we were short in that position. I also like the Gerhart pick. I say when Peterson fumbles, you bench his sorry butt! He is the reason we lost the NFC championship. Let Toby and Albert run the ball for a while. Benching players when their game sucks really needs to be done more often. Look at the effect it had on Mcnabb. He came back giving 120% and it showed. If Perterson can not pertect the ball he needs to learn to go down right away.
